Returning to Matt’s cell, I saw him sitting on the cot. “If you promise to be good, I will give you more freedom, so you don’t need to stay in the cell.” I spoke through the small window on the door.

“I promise!” Matt jumped off the cot.

I couldn’t help but think that Matt reminded me of Jon. Even if he was a half-breed, there was still an air of innocence to him. Despite being in the situation he had been in and needing to deal with bad people to keep his sister safe, he didn’t seem to lose himself in the process.

If he didn’t cause any trouble or make me regret helping him, I felt he would make an excellent addition to the team. Maybe not a member of the Renegades. More like a mascot of a sort. He could also turn out to be an asset, but that would depend on if he had any redeemable qualities that would be beneficial.

“Okay, then you can come out, and I will take you to the main building. Just remember, if you try anything, you will either be killed or return to the cell.”
