Reed POV I was holding the cart still as Lucas loaded four cases of water into it. As Lucas set the last case in the cart, I felt a hand slide up the back of my coat and around my waist. I knew instantly that it wasn’t Heather. I tried to step away, but with the shelves on one side, Lucas in front of the cart, and a display right behind me, the only way I had to move was toward the person I wanted to get away from. Lucas stood up from the cart to see what was happening. He grabbed the front of the cart and pulled it forward. I didn’t hesitate to follow it. Spinning around to see who had the gall to touch me, so intimately I came to face one of the girls that had hit on us that first trip to the grocery store. Is she that desperate that all she does is hang out in the grocery store to find company? “Hey, cuties fancy meeting you here again.” She said in a high-pitched whiney voice that sounded more irritating now than it did the first day she approached us. “I see your girlfriend is
Heather POV Well, the last three and a half months have, for the most part, been uneventful. Paula and I were able to convince Cassy that we have all had embarrassing things happen to us. It comes with the over-the-top sex drive that kicks in when we finally find and confirm our mates. The New Year’s Eve party was a blast. Nolan and Cassy started their year as newly marked mates. I couldn’t have been happier for them. We were informed that Professor Brigs is no longer a Professor. He was no longer anything. After looking into some things, it was discovered that he had been doing a lot of questionable things with female students, both human and wolf. He would give them poor grades or say they didn’t hand in assignments, then ask for ‘favours’ to get the marks up. Bryce and his Dad think that is what he was attempting to do with me, but it backfired when I attacked him in the parking lot. I have been thinking a lot about what Reed and Lucas said about wanting me to move in with them w
Heather POV The whole ride to Reed and Lucas’ place I kept going over everything that Indigo had said. There must be a reason that Indigo is telling me this. The fact that she said that she was relaying the message leads me to believe that she was told by the Moon Goddess. I’ve known all along that there was more to the visions than just a warm-up to what was to come. I didn’t think Reed and Lucas would have a problem with marking me shortly after my first shift, but I was a little scared. We pulled into the parking lot at the guys' building, Reed turned off the truck, and we made our way into the apartment. “OK, spill. What have you been thinking about the whole ride here?” Lucas says as soon as the door closes behind him. “Yeah, even when you’re tired you’re not this quiet. Was there more to the visions that you’re not telling us?” Reed asks. Letting out a sigh. “Indigo told me something before we left that I need to discuss with the two of you.” I could the worry and... fear pla
Heather POV “After we mark Heather if we slip up, we’ll be parents,” Lucas says with worry in his voice. “Are we ready for that?” That is the question that I have been mulling over since Lucas asked. Even now, sitting here in the cabin that Bryce arranged for us to use, staring at the box of condoms that I placed on the nightstand, I’m still thinking about it. A light knock on the door pulls me from my thoughts. “Come in.” Mona opens the door and steps in, followed by Grandma, Rene and Dawn. I jumped up and ran to Grandma, throwing my arms around her. I haven’t seen her since I left for school because I missed seeing her at Christmas. “Hey, Sweetie, how’s my birthday girl doing?” She asks, squeezing me. “I’m good. Scared, but not at the same time, if that makes any sense.” Mona and Rene give a little chuckle. “Believe it or not, it does,” Mona says, as she guides me over to the bed. “I know from experience that the first shift can be scary the same as being marked.” “The shift is
Reed POV While Mom and the rest of the women went to talk to Heather, Lucas and I stayed with Dad, Gavin, and Alpha Sean. I was nervous, I didn’t know if Heather’s shift was going to be the same as ours or different because of being a hybrid. I was pacing along the edge of the path that led to the clearing we were going to later. Then the question that Lucas asked about us being ready to be parents, was going through my mind too. Was I ready at twenty to be a Dad? Was Heather ready to be a Mom at eighteen? What happens if she’s not ready, and we forget, are we going to spend the rest of our lives together with her resenting us? I felt a hand land on my shoulder and I looked to see Dad staring at me with worry. “What is going around in that head of yours, you look like you’re about to spill your guts, and I don’t mean verbally.” I walked over and sat on the log at the side of the path. Letting out an exhausted sigh, I confided in Dad. “I'm scared that something is going to go wrong.”
Heather POV Slowly the pain reseeded and I could hear Indigo calling me. ‘Heather it’s over.’ I could smell... fire, wood smoke. It reminded me of the campfires that I used to have with my family where I would sit and drink mint hot chocolate. ‘Mates’ Indigo said quietly. ‘Was that the other scent I was picking up on from the guys?’ I asked her. ‘Yes, our mates’ scents. They smell...’ ‘Like home.’ I finished for her. I could feel tingles spreading from behind Indigo’s ear as Lucas sat with her head in his lap. “If Heather agrees, I don't want to worry about protection.” He suddenly says. I feel tingles along my neck as Reed runs his fingers through Indigo’s fur. “Are you sure?” He asks. “Because I was thinking the same thing.” I was just about to ask Indigo what she thought when she suddenly jumped up. I watched through Indigo’s eyes as Reed and Lucas stood and walked towards us. “Are you ready for a run, Beautiful, because we have two very impatient wolves who want to be with y
Heather POV Reed, Lucas and I started towards the cabin. I slowed, allowing the guys to get a little ahead of me. I wanted to talk to them about what they had been discussing earlier. It may not be common nowadays, but I do know that in our culture it is more accepted. I’m thinking that I would like to take Mona’s approach. If it happens, it happens. Reed and Lucas turn as they reach the door, noticing that I wasn’t right behind them. “Is everything OK M’eudail?” Reed asks before opening the door and holding it for me. I walked in and stood in the middle of the room. “Do you not want to do this? Because we will wait if that is what you want, Mo leannan.” Lucas adds. I smiled at them and shook my head. “No, I don’t want to wait.” They both walked towards me, taking my hands and holding them to their chests. “I heard what the two of you were talking about earlier in the clearing just after I shifted. I don’t want to worry about protection either. “Are you sure M’eudail?” Reed asks, k
Possible Trauma Triggers Keegan POV Carter had ended up having to sedate Sophie. The bastard had taken over her body and tried to convince the guards to open the door, then went on to demand it. Then, when begging and pleading to let her go and see her daughter didn’t work, he tried to use Sophie’s wolf’s claw to slit her wrist. The guard that had been assigned to watch her acted quickly, using the tranquillizer gun and sedating her before any real damage was done. I had a feeling that this bastard would consider Sophie expendable. After that, Carter decided that it was best to just sedate us in case next time the guard wasn’t able to react as quickly. I rolled over, reaching for my phone that I had set on the stool that was beside the bed. I feel the drowsiness of the drugs that are still in my system and a wave of dizziness hits me as I sit up. Glancing at the phone, I see it’s just before three in the morning. I was just about to stand when I was hit with an immense pain that sho
