We got back to doing our duties quietly and eventually, Lizzy's obsession left the store, not forgetting to flash a smile before leaving. Evening came quicker than I had imagined and all I could think of was how to prove myself to Azek. How to make him see that I'm not who he thinks I am and that I would never hurt him.

“ The best time in our job is when it's evening. Little customers to attend to and most importantly, time for clocking out is approaching,” Lizzy yawned and stretched in gladness.

“ Your eagerness to get off work sometimes makes me wonder why you even accepted the job to begin with,” I chuckled.

“ I guess, I need the money,” she rested her head in her palm which was propped up by her arm. “ Mia, lover boy is back,” she whispered as she stood upright. I turned towards the glass door only to see him walking in. He had come back.

“ Hello, Mia and...,” he paused looking at Lizzy as he tried hard to remember her name.

“ Lizzy,” she reminded.

“ Yeah, Lizzy,” he scratched his head in embarrassment before quickly focusing his attention on me. “ I wanted to get something quickly from the store but I have no idea what the name is, could you help me search for it?” He asked.

“ Erm... Sure,” I smiled as walked out from behind the counter and led the way to the lines of shelves. “ So what exactly are you looking for?” I inquired.

“ It's a tonic. I want to get it for my mom,” he was sweet and thoughtful.

“ Do you know the name perchance?”

“ If I knew the name, I wouldn't bother you,” he rubbed his nape.

“ Sorry,” I realized my mistake.

“ It's okay, but what I do know is that it has a tiger engraving printed on it,” he described and we began to search for it.

“ Is this it?” I showed him one after about thirty minutes that seemed to match his vague description.

“ Yes, that's right,” we had finally found it. “ Thanks a lot,”

“ Don't bother,” I didn't think he needed to thank me since it was my job to assist him after all.

“ Uhm... I've been meaning to say this for a while now but I didn't want to seem too forward,” he said looking away awkwardly. I had a bad feeling about this. “ You're really pretty,” he complimented and ended up blushing hard.

“ Erm... Thank you. I appreciate the compliment,” I had turned my professionalism to the highest level.

“ Is it okay if we exchange numbers?” He wasn't planning on beating around the bush. “ We could hang out sometimes and we can get to know each other better,” he suggested.

“ I'm sorry but I'm married,” I never thought this status would be this handy, not to talk of being a sweet excuse to use.

“ Are you kidding me right now?” He scoffed. The pace at which he switched sides was something to be wary of.

“ Do you think I'm an idiot? It's pretty obvious that you're not married,” he said pointing at my finger. I hadn't worn my ring because Azek hated to see me wearing it.

“ I don't think I have anything to prove, sir,” I tried my best to remain polite. “ If that will be all, then you can go ahead and check it in at the counter,” I made to walk out but then he gripped my wrist firmly. I tried my best to wriggle my hand from his grasp but it was nearly impossible.

“ I don't care if you have a boyfriend, I want you. Besides, I can treat you right,” he drew closer to me and whispered into my ears. Just as I struggled to get out of his grip and prevent him from harassing me, Lizzy came from behind me and sprayed him in the eye with pepper spray which was fitting of him.

“ Ahhh!” He shouted in pain.

“ You're such an asshole! I can't believe I ever even considered you handsome,” she cussed at him. The security soon came and dragged him out.

“ Thanks a lot, Lizzy. My husband would kill me if he found out about this,” I sighed.

“ That's a bit toxic of him if you ask me,” she was blunt but she wasn't all that wrong because, at this point, Azek was indeed toxic.

“ I'm back,” I announced my presence as I walked into the house. I had come home a lot later than I had bargained for.

“ Where do you think you're going?” Azek’s voice made me freeze. “ Why are you back late?” He questioned.

” I was at work,” I replied looking at him confused.

“ Flirting with Mr. Sweet guy with the long hair,” he snapped and my eyes widened. How had he known about him?

“ Come with me,” he held me tight by the wrist and pulled me upstairs with him. His grip was firm in the most discomforting manner.

“ You're hurting me, let go of me,” I begged as he kept pulling me by the hand. Getting to his room, he nearly threw me ahead of him making me fall. “ This is a misunderstanding,” I tried explaining. “ I am the victim, not what you think,” I tried to reason with him. “ Of course you are. You always are,” he said taking off his shirt. “ Strip,” he ordered. I stood there in shock and confusion. “ Didn't you hear me? I said S-T-R-I-P, ” he broke it down. Before I could oppose his command, he helped me rip my clothes off before pinning me to the wall. “ You're my property and I'm not the type to share even if the property is scrap,” he said kissing my neck. “ Maybe I didn't mark out my territory. I should probably do it tonight,” his hands were everywhere as he bit my neck and sucked unto it making me gasp. “ From now on, whenever you're going out, put on the ring,” he instructed. “ But first, I need to teach you a lesson you won't

Mia's POVI got back home early from work purposefully just to prepare dinner for Azek. I would give him the good news over dinner. I obviously felt a bit nervous since I wasn't exactly sure how he would react to the news given that he currently hates me but still, I don't think Azek would ever hurt his child. “ Madam Mel, I want to use candles and candleholders tonight,” I informed her. “ I already sent some maids to prepare it,” she was quick on her feet. “ But now, I'm sorta curious as to the reason for this good mood you're in today,” she pried in a way a mother would. “ It's nothing really. I just want to talk to Azek about something, you'll find out eventually,” I scratched my head.“ If you say so,” she chuckled.Once everything was set, I sat on the dining table checking the time every five minutes. He should be here by now, what was taking him so long? “ It's been thirty minutes past the regular time he should have been back,” I mumbled to myself. “ Ma

Mia's POV"Are you sure you want to take this job?" Lilian asked me as I packed the suitcases and luggage into the car booth."I'm sure Lillian, the money is way better than what I can earn here in five years. You know I've always wanted to give the twins a better life." I said to her and she shook her head. "I know but, I'm just saying. You are leaving your position as the top chef in one of the fast-rising five-star hotels to go and be a resident chef in one rich man's house. Well, I don't see that as progress." Lillian continued to complain while I just continued to pack my stuff."Well, that is very encouraging of you to say," I said and she sighed deeply, she came to me and then hugged me from behind me."I'm going to miss you, do you have to go?" She asked me and I nodded my head. "Yes you know I have been wanting a better job, you don't have to worry. Once we are settled over there, you will come over and visit us." I said to her and she pretended to be sad. "I'm really sad

Mia's POV I didn't even realize we were far along, I guess the house is so close to the airport or I was just too deep in thought. I alighted from the car and a sense of familiarity washed through her. It was as though I had been here before, I don't know why but I can see myself being here before. It must be because I've been here for so long, it's safe to say I was missing home. The twins alighted from the car as well and it was obvious that they were amazed by what they just saw. They can't seem to get over the magnificent mansion."This is huge mummy, are we going to be living here from now henceforth?" Lewis was the one that asked and I giggled."Well yes, baby. We are going to live here from now henceforth but, we won't stay here in the main house. We will be staying at the boy's quarter, can you please lead us to the place where we will be staying? My boys and I had a long flight and we are so tired." I said to the driver that brought us after I had answered Lewis. According

Mia's POV "Hi, I'm Mia Mendez," I said as I was overwhelmed, I get this a lot from where I'm coming from. But I didn't think someone would know me this well to be starstruck over here."Oh please! I already know who you are, you don't need to say it to me. I enjoy watching you so much and I'm really glad I will be working for you. When the boss said I would be working for the new chef, I didn't know you would be the one. I have all your cooking magazines and recipes in my room." She said giggling like a little child, one could tell that she was so excited and nervous at the same time."I feel so flattered honestly, thank you for loving all that I do. Looks like you and I are going to be friends." I said to her and I can swear that she was almost crying. I could see her face turn red and I became nostalgic as well. I will get used to it, since one of the maids already knows who I am, I'm guessing all the other ones know who I am as well."Really? This is one of the best days of my lif

Azek's POVI sat back on the office chair as I patiently waited for the meeting to be wrapped up. The person doing the presentation needs to be fast with the whole thing or I might just be forced to fire him. I have no idea what he's even saying as I have not been listening to anything that's been said."Mr Ford! Mr Ford!!" I heard my name being called and I jolted back to reality. I had no idea what he was saying before now, I looked up and my eyes met his. He quickly looked down trying not to look at me, he must have been really scared for his life."Just wrap up the meeting so we can leave this place. I'm sure we all have something to get back to, don't we?" I asked and they all nodded their heads and some of them answered me. Finally, the meeting was over and I was the first person to leave the conference hall, my assistant followed me trying to keep up with me. I have no idea why I'm this nervous but I really can't help it no matter how much I try.I got to my office and sat down

"Are you sure you the boys will be okay here on their own?" She asked me and I nodded my head. "Yes the boys will be fine, you don't need to worry about them. We will be back soon right?" I asked her and she nodded her head."Yes, we just need to introduce everyone to you and then you can also use the opportunity to see the picture of the boss and then you can see what I'm talking about." She said and I felt scared a little bit."Are you for real? He frowns even in pictures as well?" I asked her and nodded her head."Well, I guess I'm going to have to see for myself then," I said and we both laughed out loud. We got to the main house and we passed through the kitchen, the maids were all waiting for me. I felt a little bit overwhelmed as I saw everyone staring at me with so much admiration. I just didn't know how to feel or react to what I was seeing. "Welcome to our mansion Chef Mendez, we are so glad to have you here in our house. I can't wait to have a taste of your mouth-watering

Azek's POV As soon as I stepped out of my car, I felt uneasy. I have been rehearsing in my head the things I'm going to say to Mia as soon as I come face-to-face with her. I have no idea how she's going to react to all of this, she's going to freak out for sure when she knows I'm the one who hired her. I just hope I have good enough excuses and things to say to stop her from hating me so much."Boss, you are not moving. Is anything the problem at all?" My driver was the one who asked me and I jolted back to reality. I didn't even know I had been standing in a spot for so long. "It's nothing, I was just thinking about something," I said and made my way into the house as I took each step. My leg became heavy and I was practically dragging my feet with me. This is just so bad and I hope I'm able to handle this well enough. I made my way into the sitting room and the aroma that enveloped me was simply out of this world. I had no idea that something could smell this good. Is it because

Reed’s POV“You better cooperate with the police” the prison Warder yelled at me as he unlocked my cell. Since my arrival at the prison, he had always treated me like I was some hardened criminal. But deep down I felt immense remorse for all I had done. I allowed my emotions to push me into signing a deal with the devil without weighing the consequences. I sat on the bunk bed, soaking in the guilt that ate my sanity slowly. All I could think of was the people I had hurt in the course, of executing the will of Chloe. The prison warder informed me that I had an interrogation session with an inspector. Before this, I had undergone multiple interrogation sessions, each one more dreadful than the last. “Hey, step out of the cell and walk down the hallway to the last room on your left” the prison warder directed me like I didn't know the drill. He finished his sentence, but I didn't make any move, I just sat there burying myself in guilt and self-hate. I just wanted to be left alone. “Mo

Chloe's POV“What is wrong with Marcus?” I asked myself these questions expecting a vivid answer, but they remained floating around in my mind. All my efforts in contacting Marcus kept heating dead ends. The psychological pressure made me flutter, draining my confidence and gradually bringing me to the brink of anxiety and fear. Failure wasn't an option at this point, additionally I had come too far to give up now. My conversation with my mom led me to see the eruption of the concealed desperation she has been holding in. Over the course of days, my mom has been calling to pester me. Always questioning my next move, the more I listened to her, the depressed I became. Her alliance with Mr. and Mrs. Mendez made it difficult to think as they were constantly on my neck. Constantly reminding me of my failed past efforts. After some time of thinking about my messed up life, I got a call from the contact I requested to contact Marcus. My phone rang loudly, breaking the silence I sat in.

Mia's POV “Lewis! Liam! Can you both come downstairs and have your breakfast ?” I yelled from the sitting room to the boys who were upstairs playing in their rooms. It was a bright morning, and the light from the sun cast a Golden hue on the house. The tension I and the boys felt on our arrival, had faded into a more comfortable feeling. It was indeed a safe house. As I prepared breakfast, my thoughts drifted into the trauma I experienced at the hospital. Flashbacks of Azek surrounded by nurses and doctors trying to save his life, replayed in my mind. These thoughts drained me emotionally. I had done so many things trying to get my mind off my anxiety, but all my efforts to achieve peace of mind proved fruitless. I guess being the soul Bond between family at critical times was exhausting. Despite the settled feeling of comfort and safety, my mind was still roaming, my heart pounding with anxiety about Azek’s condition. I wasn't sure if he had been moved or if he was still at

Azek's POV “Daniel ?” I asked more to myself than him. I tried to sit upright but the intense pain that surged through my body made it difficult to move. But my current mental State didn't allow me to think. According to his introduction, he knew me and my family, so I decided to ask him about Mia. “Where is Mia ?” I asked him, my voice slightly elevated and strained, “you have to tell me where she is”.Daniel gave a loud sigh before answering me and his face laced with worry and concern. “Stop bothering your mind” he said, “you have to be calm” “Why were they hiding Mia's location from me” I asked myself. Everybody kept telling me to be calm. I was gradually getting to the limit of my patience, as all my efforts to get to Mia proved fruitless. Daniel noticed my anger. He glanced at me with hesitation and concern, she

Azek’s POV“What happened to me” was the question I had been asking myself for several days. I tried shaking off the foggy feeling I felt in my head as I woke up. I blinked countless times, but the haze didn’t clear up. My memory was cloudy, making it difficult to remember anything. The more I tried to think, the more intense this throbbing pain I felt at the back of my head. “Where am I” I finally forced some words out of my mouth after what felt like days of being mute. I have never felt such disorientation in my life. I was blind mentally. I opened my eyes and scanned the room. It was dimply lit, and I could barely hear any sound, except the sound of the heart rate monitor attached to me. “Was I in the hospital?” I blinked countless more times, forcing my articulation to come alive. I knew I was still alive, but a part of my brain felt dead. After a couple of minutes of laying still on the bed, my memories started coming in blurred fragments. Faces and actions of different peop

Mia's POV “Mummy, where are we going?” Lewis asked as we began our drive in the car. I sat there, sandwiched between Liam and Lewis. They both stared at me with confused faces. I couldn't bring myself to explain what was happening. I didn't understand fully. All I knew was Chloe intended to take my life. The more I gave the situation some thought, the more I felt a void form in my guts. Daniel had hurriedly whisked us away from the hospital, leaving Azek without any word of explanation and this was unfortunate for him. What if he started looking for us? His condition might worsen due to our absence. “We are going to someplace safe for now, it's not for long. We will see Daddy soon" I explained what was left of my shattered mind to Lewis. The drive was awkwardly quiet, the only dominant sound was the soft humming of the car engine. Liam on the other side of the car was quietly scanning the road Intensely. He behaved like he could sense that something was wrong. I could see him glan

He puffed like he sprinted all the way here. “What do you mean?” I asked Daniel, my voice filled with dread and fear. I'm a split second, my mind raced through the worst scenarios. Daniel's urgency was about Chloe, but he was too unsettled to explain. “Calm down, breathe, and explain to us what you mean,” Natalia said, she was confused by his unusual behavior and words. Daniel took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. He closed his eyes and took some time to breathe. He shortly opened his eyes and spoke, this time a bit calmer. “I went to talk with someone who knew Chloe very well – Marcus, he said Chloe is planning something huge and would strike anytime soon. Mia’s POV “Hey boys, you both need to stop playing around. There are a lot of things you would rather not break in here” I said to Liam and Lewis. They both were playing happily in the wardroom where Azek lay on his sick bed. The tension in the hospital had reduced after the news of the brain scans and Azek’s response to treatment and overall improvement in his health. They seemed a bit happier after they spent some days with Natalia back at the mansion. I watched them play and smile despite the traumatic situation we found ourselves. I glanced at Azek; he, too, was enjoying the sight of the boys playing; I could see him wish he could stand up and join them to play. His eyes were fixed on the boys, and gradually a wide and bright smile grew on his face. It’s been a few days and I still haven’t gotten any word from Daniel. Daniel's POV I exclaimed out of excitement in my mind, but I held my composure. I couldn't afford to celebrate too Early. We still had bigger fish to fry. “ I need everything! Where is she hiding, who is her possible alias, and what's her next move? I need it all Marcus !" I exclaimed! He leaned forward resting his cuffs on the metal table. I immediately brought out a small jotter and a pen ready to take notes. “ She's been lying low in an abandoned penthouse in the East of town. And as for her next move she's currently spying on Mia and her family at the hospital. She might have sent someone to poison Mia already. She has been talking about me for weeks, and if that doesn't work, she plans to go to the hospital herself,” he revealed. As he spoke, I wrote down every detail I deemed useful. My stomach twisted, and my ears hurt from listening to him. “So how do we get to her, storm the penthouse? Or do we wait for her to show face at the hospital? And how soon do you think she wou
