Mia's POV
I got back home early from work purposefully just to prepare dinner for Azek. I would give him the good news over dinner. I obviously felt a bit nervous since I wasn't exactly sure how he would react to the news given that he currently hates me but still, I don't think Azek would ever hurt his child.
“ Madam Mel, I want to use candles and candleholders tonight,” I informed her.
“ I already sent some maids to prepare it,” she was quick on her feet. “ But now, I'm sorta curious as to the reason for this good mood you're in today,” she pried in a way a mother would.
“ It's nothing really. I just want to talk to Azek about something, you'll find out eventually,” I scratched my head.
“ If you say so,” she chuckled.
Once everything was set, I sat on the dining table checking the time every five minutes. He should be here by now, what was taking him so long?
“ It's been thirty minutes past the regular time he should have been back,” I mumbled to myself.
“ Madam, why don't I put a call across to Young master on your behalf?” Madam Mel suggested.
“ No need, I can wait for him. You should be tired by now, why don't you head to bed?” Madam Mel worked so hard at home, she too needed to rest as much as I did.
“ Are you fine with staying out alone?” She always acted like my mom which I liked. I missed that feeling - it was something I hadn't experienced in years.
“ You're making it look like I'm standing outside waiting for him,” I muttered. “ I'm fine, you don't have to worry about me,” I convinced.
“ If you say so, I'll be off to bed then,” she sighed. “ Goodnight,” she wished me before heading out of the dining room. I tap my fingers against each other as I waited patiently for Azek to come... It was past ten and yet Azek was nowhere in sight. I reached out for my phone and dialed his number with the hopes that he might pick.
“ Hello?” The words I had planned to say left my lips as I heard his voice from over the phone.
“ It's me, Mia,” I managed to introduce myself.
“ Oh,” was the only thing he could give as a reply.
“ When are you going to be home?” I asked nervously, I could hear a very rowdy and noisy background with loud music blaring through the air - it had to be a club or a bar. I clenched my skirt at the thought of it, anything could happen in a club.
“ Soon enough,” he sounded drunk and my mind wandered to many places. Him being drunk meant he was vulnerable and anything could occur between he and any club girl. Fear gripped me at the thought, but it was just a thought right? I should probably dispell it.
“ Should I...,” the phone beeped - he had hung up on me before I could say anything else. All that was left to do was to wait patiently and hold him by his words. He had promised to come soon.

An hour later
I heard faint, drowsy footsteps and it seemed to get closer and closer. My eyes popped open and only did I realize that I had fallen asleep on the dining. I sprang to my feet and turned the direction of the haggard footsteps to see Azek in a wasted state with his driver trying hard to ensure he doesn't fall to the ground.
“ Azek?” I gasped as I ran towards them to meet them in the main living room. “ Why is he in such a state?” I asked with my eyes wide as I searched his face for any injuries paradventure something happened.
“ He was out with Master Reed and they ended up drinking more than usual,” the driver explained. Azek had been out with his best friend Reed so there was nothing more to see than his drunken state - I sighed.
“ You can go, I'll handle things from here,” I dismissed him as I wrapped Azek’s arm around my shoulder. I glanced over at the feast I had made for Azek which I planned to also use to disclose the good news. My hardwork was wasted but at least, he came back home today.
I carefully helped him to his room and gently placed him down on the king sized bed that lay in the middle of the room.
“ Azek, I'm glad you came back home though I didn't expect it to be like this,” I talked to the barely conscious Azek who lay helplessly on the bed. I began to help him take off his clothes.
“ I have news for you and that's why I wanted us to talk about it over dinner,” I sighed. “ I don't even know if I should classify it as good news or bad because I have no idea how you'd feel about it,” I felt nervous even though I wasn't sure he was hearing a thing I was saying.
“ You're listening to me, right?” I asked and he simply grunted. “ Azek... I'm pregnant with your child and as much as I know you don't like me, I want to keep our baby,” tears dropped from my eyes as I told him. Looking at him, I realized he had fallen asleep - deeply asleep.
“ I should probably just have waited till morning,” even I knew I had been wasting my time since talking to him. My eyes caught something red on his white shirt, I leaned forward to have a proper look at it and once my hand felt it, I knew I couldn't be mistaken this texture - it was lipstick.
My heart began to pound hard against my chest walls as every negative thought flooded my mind, only then did I inhale the feminine perfume that clung on to him. I found myself crying profusely, I didn't mind if he treated me bad but I couldn't bare to think that he was cheating on me.
I thought everything was going to be fine now that I was carrying his child but I guess I was delusional. All my life, I had lived my life for others. I never rebelled because I wanted to protect my family and the bonds I've made but maybe it was time to put myself first.
I picked up my phone and called Lizzy, explaining to her how I couldn't bare it anymore and needed a place to stay.
“ Don't worry, I'll help you. Can you come over now? You know what, I'll be waiting for you in a taxi by the nearest bus stop near your house just send me your address,” she was indeed a good friend. I couldn't get Nita or Natalie involved, Azek would be sure to find me if I did and the last thing I wanted was to make them suffer because of me.
I packed my things hastily like never before, even taking the cash I had saved up. Looking back at Azek who lay on the bed, I approached him with delicacy. I climbed into the bed and planted a kiss on his forehead.
“ I love you, Azek and I bloody wish you would remember everything we shared back in highschool but I can't do it anymore. I rather not be with you than have to compete for your heart when I know I have no place in it to begin with. I'll miss you, Azek,” I said softly, this time kissing him softly on the lips. It would be the last time I would feel his lips against mine or be this close to his body.
With my things packed and my heart set, I left the Ford mansion in the cover of darkness never to return again. I was going to live for myself and my baby this time.
Mia's POV"Are you sure you want to take this job?" Lilian asked me as I packed the suitcases and luggage into the car booth."I'm sure Lillian, the money is way better than what I can earn here in five years. You know I've always wanted to give the twins a better life." I said to her and she shook her head. "I know but, I'm just saying. You are leaving your position as the top chef in one of the fast-rising five-star hotels to go and be a resident chef in one rich man's house. Well, I don't see that as progress." Lillian continued to complain while I just continued to pack my stuff."Well, that is very encouraging of you to say," I said and she sighed deeply, she came to me and then hugged me from behind me."I'm going to miss you, do you have to go?" She asked me and I nodded my head. "Yes you know I have been wanting a better job, you don't have to worry. Once we are settled over there, you will come over and visit us." I said to her and she pretended to be sad. "I'm really sad
Mia's POV I didn't even realize we were far along, I guess the house is so close to the airport or I was just too deep in thought. I alighted from the car and a sense of familiarity washed through her. It was as though I had been here before, I don't know why but I can see myself being here before. It must be because I've been here for so long, it's safe to say I was missing home. The twins alighted from the car as well and it was obvious that they were amazed by what they just saw. They can't seem to get over the magnificent mansion."This is huge mummy, are we going to be living here from now henceforth?" Lewis was the one that asked and I giggled."Well yes, baby. We are going to live here from now henceforth but, we won't stay here in the main house. We will be staying at the boy's quarter, can you please lead us to the place where we will be staying? My boys and I had a long flight and we are so tired." I said to the driver that brought us after I had answered Lewis. According
Mia's POV "Hi, I'm Mia Mendez," I said as I was overwhelmed, I get this a lot from where I'm coming from. But I didn't think someone would know me this well to be starstruck over here."Oh please! I already know who you are, you don't need to say it to me. I enjoy watching you so much and I'm really glad I will be working for you. When the boss said I would be working for the new chef, I didn't know you would be the one. I have all your cooking magazines and recipes in my room." She said giggling like a little child, one could tell that she was so excited and nervous at the same time."I feel so flattered honestly, thank you for loving all that I do. Looks like you and I are going to be friends." I said to her and I can swear that she was almost crying. I could see her face turn red and I became nostalgic as well. I will get used to it, since one of the maids already knows who I am, I'm guessing all the other ones know who I am as well."Really? This is one of the best days of my lif
Azek's POVI sat back on the office chair as I patiently waited for the meeting to be wrapped up. The person doing the presentation needs to be fast with the whole thing or I might just be forced to fire him. I have no idea what he's even saying as I have not been listening to anything that's been said."Mr Ford! Mr Ford!!" I heard my name being called and I jolted back to reality. I had no idea what he was saying before now, I looked up and my eyes met his. He quickly looked down trying not to look at me, he must have been really scared for his life."Just wrap up the meeting so we can leave this place. I'm sure we all have something to get back to, don't we?" I asked and they all nodded their heads and some of them answered me. Finally, the meeting was over and I was the first person to leave the conference hall, my assistant followed me trying to keep up with me. I have no idea why I'm this nervous but I really can't help it no matter how much I try.I got to my office and sat down
"Are you sure you the boys will be okay here on their own?" She asked me and I nodded my head. "Yes the boys will be fine, you don't need to worry about them. We will be back soon right?" I asked her and she nodded her head."Yes, we just need to introduce everyone to you and then you can also use the opportunity to see the picture of the boss and then you can see what I'm talking about." She said and I felt scared a little bit."Are you for real? He frowns even in pictures as well?" I asked her and nodded her head."Well, I guess I'm going to have to see for myself then," I said and we both laughed out loud. We got to the main house and we passed through the kitchen, the maids were all waiting for me. I felt a little bit overwhelmed as I saw everyone staring at me with so much admiration. I just didn't know how to feel or react to what I was seeing. "Welcome to our mansion Chef Mendez, we are so glad to have you here in our house. I can't wait to have a taste of your mouth-watering
Azek's POV As soon as I stepped out of my car, I felt uneasy. I have been rehearsing in my head the things I'm going to say to Mia as soon as I come face-to-face with her. I have no idea how she's going to react to all of this, she's going to freak out for sure when she knows I'm the one who hired her. I just hope I have good enough excuses and things to say to stop her from hating me so much."Boss, you are not moving. Is anything the problem at all?" My driver was the one who asked me and I jolted back to reality. I didn't even know I had been standing in a spot for so long. "It's nothing, I was just thinking about something," I said and made my way into the house as I took each step. My leg became heavy and I was practically dragging my feet with me. This is just so bad and I hope I'm able to handle this well enough. I made my way into the sitting room and the aroma that enveloped me was simply out of this world. I had no idea that something could smell this good. Is it because
Mia's POV I made my way to the apartment, I almost lost my way but I was able to find my way, especially as it's the second building in the compound. Immediately my mind fled to the things I heard the maids say, I began to wonder if they meant what they said or if it was all jokes.I shook the thought of my mind, I should not be lingering so much on it. It's not good for me, I opened the door and made my way to the room. Lewis and Liam were already asleep, and the maid watching over them already slept off as well. I walked over to the couch she was lying on and tapped her on the shoulder, she must be quite tired."Chef Mendez," she jolted up and quickly stood up. I can see she feels embarrassed that I found her in such a spot, I smiled at her making her feel relaxed. "I'm sorry for dozing off, I was just reading them bedtime stories. I don't even know how it happened, I'm sorry. Please don't report me to the boss, he will fire me once he finds out I did something like this." She sai
Azek's POV I sat there feeling nervous as I used my finger to restlessly tap the table. I couldn't even bring myself to eat the food that was served. I have rehearsed this scene in my head a hundred times and yet I'm unable to calm down. I looked around and I could see the maids looking at me, they immediately looked away as soon as our eyes met with each other.Six years ago after I woke up, I couldn't find Mia. At first, I thought she went away to get something which was rare but, I didn't care. My hatred for her back then blinded me and stopped me from seeing how much I loved and cared for her.Later it was discovered that she had left the mansion with some of her things. I found the truth two years ago and I have sought for her ever since. Now that she's just just so close by, I can't help but feel nervous. I wonder if she will want to see or have anything to do with me. But the good thing is, she can't leave no matter what. "Master Ford!" The head butler called out to me and I
Reed looked up, his eyes ablaze with determination."I'll make it right," he promised.I smiled. "I know you will."We sat down to dinner, the initial uncomfortable silence giving way to halting conversation. Reed shared stories of his rehabilitation and growth, his struggles and triumphs. Natalie's laughter filled the room, music to my ears. Azek's quiet strength provided a steady anchor.I watched Reed watching Natalie, hopeful, believing in second chances redemption, and love. The road ahead wouldn't be easy, but together, we'd face it.The tension dissipated as dinner progressed, replaced by warmth and camaraderie. Reed's eyes never left Natalie's face, his gaze filled with adoration. Natalie's smile softened, her eyes sparkling with amusement.Azek broke the spell by clearing his throat. "So, Reed, what's next?" Reed became thoughtful. "I need to atone, prove myself. I find work and start volunteering. whatever it takes." Daniel nodded. His expression was approving. "That's a g
Natalie's P.O.V.As we sat to discuss the aftermath of the consequences, Reed's desperate plea kept replaying in my head. "Wait for me, Natalie." Each word echoed in my brain, reminding me of the promise that I had made to him.Mia broke into my thoughts. "Do you think he's capable of changing?" Her brow was furrowed with worry.I clenched my teeth, unsure. "I want to believe it's possible," I said at last.Azek's face had turned contemplative. "People can change, Nat," he said. "But it takes work. And Reed's got a long way to go."Daniel nodded in agreement. "He's got to prove himself, not just to you, but to all of us."I nodded, knowing they were right. Reed's journey to redemption wasn't going to be easy.As the conversation continued, I could only but find myself in the grip of every word dropping from her lips and wondering about his future. Was he going to succeed in his quest to be a better man?Or would he fail at it, lose his chance, and never redeem himself? The uncertainty
Natalie's POV I slid into the passenger seat, Daniel's eyes catching mine in the rearview mirror."Still in love with a criminal, huh?" he said, heavy on the sarcasm.I felt a flush rise to my cheeks."That's not fair, Daniel," I said, my voice sure.Daniel's eyes crinkled at the corners."I'm just keeping it real, Nat," he said. "Reed's got a lot to answer for."I sighed."I know," I said. "But I need to understand why."Daniel's expression softened."All right, I understand," he said. "But promise me one thing.""What?" I asked."Promise me you'll keep your guard up," Daniel said, his eyes serious.I nodded."I will."The ride to the prison was dead silent as my mind created images of Reed. What was it that had driven him to such decisions? And would I ever truly, fully forgive him?We pulled up and Daniel cut the engine off."You ready?" he asked.I took a deep breath in."Yeah."Daniel walked beside me, his silent presence that of someone who'd be there whatever happened. We move
Mia's P.O.V.Later, I went to prison and met Chloe. "Chloe, I have news. "What is it?" she asked."I'm pregnant," I said Chloe's face softened. "Congratulations, Mia.""I forgive you, Chloe," I said.Chloe's eyes welled up. "I'm going to be an aunt."As I walked out, finally there was closure. A new chapter unfolded for all of us – with love, forgiveness, and a growing family.Azek's lips brushed mine. "We're in this together.""Forever," I replied.Inspector Thompson conveyed congratulations on my pregnancy."Well, congratulations, ma'am."I smiled and said, "Thank you, Inspector.""When will my sister be parole-eligible?""In five to seven years, given that she has cooperated and her behavior has been good," he said.I nodded, wrapping my mind around the timeline."What of Reed?"Reed will do a bit more time since he's an accessory to the crime," Inspector Thompson explained. Azek wrapped arms around me. "Alright?""Chloe will be eligible for parole in five to seven years," I
Mia's Pov Today was the day of Chloe and Reed's hearing. By now, Azek was fully recovered and stood beside me, his hand clasped tightly around mine as we stood outside the courthouse. The morning sun cast a gold glow.Liam and Lewis were clinging to Natalie, their small hands clasped in hers. "Mommy, what is happening today?" Liam queried. I squatted beside them. "Today, Chloe and Reed will be sentenced," I told them. Lewis's eyes went wide. "Will they go to jail?" I nodded. "Yes, baby. They will."Natalie's face went hard. "They need to suffer for what they did." Azek's jaw flexed. "They will." As we started to enter the courtroom, Chloe and Reed scrambled to get themselves prepared. Chloe finally looked at me, a fire of anger and desperation in her eyes. Reed simply cast his face down, shame etched on it.Bang. The gavel fell, and with it, the room fell silent. "This court is now in session." The prosecutor stood, outlining the charges: kidnapping, conspiracy, treason. The evidence
---------Mia's POV I felt my world crumble as Azek's body hit the floor. "No! Azek!" I screamed, Lewis, clinging to me in terror.Daniel rushed to Azek's side, his face ashen. "He's been hit!"Inspector Thompson barked orders, securing the area. "Get a medic in here, now!"Rachel's voice came through the comms device, laced with panic. "Azek, no! Hang in there!"I dropped to my knees, clutching Azek's head in my lap. "Stay with me," I begged, as tears streamed down my face.Azek's eyes flickered open, his gaze locking onto mine. "Mia. Lewis. Safe?" he whispered.I nodded, doing my best to choke back a sob. "We're safe. You saved us."A faint smile crossed his lips. "I'll always. protect you."The medic charged in skillfully checking over the wound on Azek's side. "We need to get him to the hospital, now."They rushed Azek away, and I clung to Lewis as my heart broke.Daniel's arm went around me, his voice barely above a whisper. "He'll pull through, Mia. He has to."I nodded, unable
Mia's POV My heart stopped as I stared into Liam, my face a mask of horror."A bomb," Daniel whispered, his eyes bulging in terror. "They've strapped a bomb to him."Azek went white. "Get away from him, Mia."But I was frozen on the spot. My child, my innocent Liam, was standing before me, a ticking time bomb strapped to his chest.Reed laughed hysterically in the warehouse. "You'll never leave this place alive."Kuznetsov's voice was laced with malice. "The programming includes a self-destruct mechanism. Anyone tries to remove the bomb, it detonates."Inspector Thompson's voice was steady and calm as it came through the comms device. "Bomb squad, move in. We need a defusal expert, now."Liam's eyes locked on mine, a faint glimmer of recognition flickering."Mom," he whispered, his voice barely audible.Tears streamed down my face. "Liam, baby, hold on."Daniel slowly made his way over to Liam, his hands held out. "Liam, don't move. We're going to get you out of this."Azek's eyes ne
Mia's POV As we left the hospital, the weight of the note settled heavily in my mind. "You'll never find them." Reed's taunting words echoed through my thoughts, fueling my determination. Azek's hand remained wrapped around mine, a steady anchor amid chaos."We'll find them," he repeated, his eyes detecting, I knew, my skepticism. "Reed thinks he's smart, but he's left trails. We'll follow them to wherever it takes us."Inspector Thompson nodded in assent. "We'll go through every shred of evidence, every possible connection that there might be. We will leave nothing unturned."Daniel fell into step beside us, peering at his phone. "I have a lead on Reed's financials. He has been siphoning money to an offshore account."Azek's grip on my hand tightened. "That is our first break. Let us see where it takes us."The investigation was taking shape, but the more the hours passed, the more anxious I felt. Where were Liam and Lewis? Were they scared? Were they safe?As we approached Azek's c
Mia's POV My phone rang, shrill in the tight atmosphere. "Mia, it's the hospital," the nurse said. "Natalie's awake. You should come." I turned to Azek. "Natalie's awake. I need to go." Azek nodded. "I'll come with you." He informed Inspector Thompson, "I'm leaving to see Natalie. Keep me updated." Then he told Daniel, "Stay with the inspector, in case anything comes up."We raced to Natalie's room at the hospital. "Natalie," I whispered, clutching her hand. Her eyes fluttered open. "Mia. Azek.""What happened?" Azek asked; his voice was laden with concern. Natalie's gaze drifted, remembering the events. "Reed. he came. Took the kids." she stuttered. The look of shock widened Azek's eyes, and I felt like I'd been punched."Reed?" I echoed in disbelief. Natalie's voice shook. "I tried to stop him. but he overpowered me." Azek's face went white. "Why Reed?" he whispered. Natalie's tears began to fall. "I don't know. He said something about teaching you a lesson."My mind was reeling. R
