Serena’s POV

“Why are you telling me all this?” I had to ask him. I was becoming uncomfortable. With him blabbing about some sketchy stuff. He didn't seem flustered by my question. He looked like he expected it.

“You seemed scared after hearing my conversation with the police on the phone so I thought I would explain myself,” he said calmly. He had a point but the entire explanation was just weird at first.

“Okay, it was a good move but you started as weird and scary. You can't blame my uneasiness "I said to him as I tried to relax a bit. I didn't notice earlier but he had a calm nature, maybe too calm for an ex-mercenary. As I calmed down my nerves I decided to continue the conversation with him.

“Well, I'm sorry if I scared you. I didn't want you getting the wrong idea about me "Daniel said in a calm tone as he smiled from ear to ear.

“So where are you off to now?” Daniel asked me, trying to continue the conversation. His words reminded me of my mission I almost forgot in the pa

Serena’s POV“Finally finished this application!” I said loudly to myself. The application given to me by Mr. Dennis was a three-page form, it was weird but I had to fill in all my personal information. The following morning came with the urgency of executing my plan. And the need to get to this lady Mia. “Did you use your real name when filling out the form ?” my elder sister asked me with a look of concern and worry. My aim at the hospital was to gather more information on Chloe and know who Mia was. So using my real name could blow my cover. So I decided to use a forged name and personal details. “Not really. Some of the details I filed were mine but seventy percent of the details I filled in are not mine including my name” I said to her calmly. As we spoke I got dressed. I stared at my reflection in the mirror, my mind prepared for the objective of the day. Today I will make a significant move at the hospital and plan out my next move. I said to myself as I stared. I finished th

Serena’s POV“Why does anything that concerns Chloe have to be filled with bad events !" I said loudly as I lay on the couch. The day's events were rather conflicting and confusing. I was caught between excitement and anxiety. I was happy I met Daniel after all I had planned on calling him to help me with some info but luckily fate made our paths cross again. Just as I drifted into my thoughts, my phone rang loudly, snapping me out of my thoughts. I reluctantly picked up the call. “Hello Miss Serena, sorry if this is impromptu, but I need you to report to the hospital immediately for an induction and training,” he said with urgency in his voice.I was caught off guard, I wasn't expecting him to sound that way on the phone but I needed to report immediately. “Okay sir, give me a few minutes" I rushed into my room to get ready. As I prepared, I asked myself; why did he sound like that on the phone?" Was there any problem? Despite the impromptu call, this was good news as I was fin

Serena’s POV“Please calm down ma’am. I am just doing my job," I said to Mia calmly as she buried her face in my bosom. I gave her words and thoughts; her gratitude touched my heart, bringing a sense of connection with her. I couldn't leave Mia and I had a load of answered questions for Mia. But I need to take it slow. She was already under so much stress. Pouring out my questions would possibly increase her stress levels. The guilt of agreeing to Chloe's plan to hurt such a vulnerable person as Mia was beyond cruel, to say the least. It was the wickedness of the highest level. Mia's kids just stared at me with their eyes filled with innocent tears and their faces expressed the depreciating hope they had left. Their father was in a condition that they didn't understand but all they saw was their mum losing her mind about it. Chloe was truly a monster. For picking Mia as a target. I would get to the root of this and try to know why Chloe picked Mia as her target. Mia didn't seem li

Serena's POV “Don't think of anything stupid!” Chloe yelled as I picked up the phone. She sounded a bit angry, I fell silent as I listened to her yell her head out over the phone. “If I call you, never delay giving all the information you can gather on Mia and Azek each day.” She continued her rampage. I listened with my ears, but my mind had drifted away into thoughts of getting back at her for all she had done. Both to me and Mia. “Are you even listening to me ?” She yelled after noticing my silence. I didn't say a word for the entire of the call. “Yes, I am; you don't have to yell, for goodness’ sake,” I spoke my words as calmly as I could. Trying not to join her in her pointless rampage. It was clear to me that her entitlement was fully blown. She paused for a moment, giving a few minutes of silence. I suspected she realized my nonchalance to all her threats. She continued the conversation but in a much calmer tone. “Fill me in,” she said calmly. Her words made the mind race

Mia's POV “Did you hear that?” I said loudly turning to Azek. My eyes lit with joy and hope. The nurse bore the news my mind had been aching to hear so badly. I squeezed Azek's hands in excitement and happiness. It was the next day. The feeling of the hospital was the same, but the feeling about Azek's condition was somewhat different. As I glanced at him, tears filled my eyes, I could see life gradually and slowly flow into his eyes. I sat there looking at his chest rise and fall with each breath. The words from the nurse echoed in my head repeatedly. At this point, I just clung to any spec of hope I could feel. Not only that, flashes of Azek's faint smile replayed in my mind. It brought even more light to my dark mind. I could see his grin faint but thoughtful. It gave me this satisfaction that the man I loved was still in there fighting tooth and nail to come back to me. As I sat there, my mind wandered around all the past events that had put our lives and marriage into constan

Daniel's POV “Serena is smart, but that won't be enough to take Chloe down,” I said to myself as I walked out of Azek's ward room and down the hallway. Serena's plan seemed solid on the surface, but I have experienced firsthand how far Chloe could go when she's kicked and pinned in a corner. Stalking her and stalking her next move can be a good move, but it can pose a massive risk not only to Mia and her family but to everybody who is involved. With Chloe's moves being highly unpredictable, Serena's plan could be walking straight into a lion's den. The hallway seemed longer than usual as I walked down, each step louder than the last. My traumatic memories about Chloe taunted me and shattered my thoughts. I had felt the vicious claws of Chloe, gripping me by my sanity, compelling me to do what I never agreed to. With the threats of my life dangling in my face. Chloe wasn't just a hawk built to destroy, she was also wise like a python, corny enough to swallow the biggest of prey. I

Natalie's POV I slid into the passenger seat, Daniel's eyes catching mine in the rearview mirror."Still in love with a criminal, huh?" he said, heavy on the sarcasm.I felt a flush rise to my cheeks."That's not fair, Daniel," I said, my voice sure.Daniel's eyes crinkled at the corners."I'm just keeping it real, Nat," he said. "Reed's got a lot to answer for."I sighed."I know," I said. "But I need to understand why."Daniel's expression softened."All right, I understand," he said. "But promise me one thing.""What?" Mia's Pov Today was the day of Chloe and Reed's hearing. By now, Azek was fully recovered and stood beside me, his hand clasped tightly around mine as we stood outside the courthouse. The morning sun cast a gold glow.Liam and Lewis were clinging to Natalie, their small hands clasped in hers. "Mommy, what is happening today?" Liam queried. I squatted beside them. "Today, Chloe and Reed will be sentenced," I told them. Lewis's eyes went wide. "Will they go to jail?" I nodded. "Yes, baby. They will."Natalie's face went hard. "They need to suffer for what they did." Azek's jaw flexed. "They will." As we started to enter the courtroom, Chloe and Reed scrambled to get themselves prepared. Chloe finally looked at me, a fire of anger and desperation in her eyes. Reed simply cast his face down, shame etched on it.Bang. The gavel fell, and with it, the room fell silent. "This court is now in session." The prosecutor stood, outlining the charges: kidnapping, conspiracy, treason. The evidence

Mia's POV My heart stopped as I stared into Liam, my face a mask of horror."A bomb," Daniel whispered, his eyes bulging in terror. "They've strapped a bomb to him."Azek went white. "Get away from him, Mia."But I was frozen on the spot. My child, my innocent Liam, was standing before me, a ticking time bomb strapped to his chest.Reed laughed hysterically in the warehouse. "You'll never leave this place alive."Kuznetsov's voice was laced with malice. "The programming includes a self-destruct mechanism. Anyone tries to remove the bomb, it detonates."Inspector Thompson's voice was steady and calm as it came through the comms device. "Bomb squad, move in. We need a defusal expert, now."Liam's eyes locked on mine, a faint glimmer of recognition flickering."Mom," he whispered, his voice barely audible.Tears streamed down my face. We will leave nothing unturned."Daniel fell into step beside us, peering at his phone. "I have a lead on Reed's financials. He has been siphoning money to an offshore account."Azek's grip on my hand tightened. "That is our first break. Then he told Daniel, "Stay with the inspector, in case anything comes up."We raced to Natalie's room at the hospital. "Natalie," I whispered, clutching her hand. Her eyes fluttered open. "Mia. The look of shock widened Azek's eyes, and I felt like I'd been punched."Reed?" I echoed in disbelief. Natalie's voice shook. "I tried to stop him. but he overpowered me." Azek's face went white. "Why Reed?" he whispered. Natalie's tears began to fall. "I don't know. He said something about teaching you a lesson."My mind was reeling. R
