Ch. 38 Coincidence

Olivia

At the restaurant, Kyle stands to greet me when I reach our table, leaning in to kiss my cheek. He pulls back, his nose wrinkled like he smells something putrid but he doesn’t comment.

“Nothing happened, I swear. They ambushed me!” I rush to explain anyway.

“Olivia,” He chuckles. “I trust you. I won’t lie, I hate every second that you’re under their roof and I don’t trust either of them any farther than I can throw them, which incidentally isn't very far, but you I trust implicitly.”

“Thank you.” I say, sitting in the chair he’s pulled out for me. “For trusting me and for understanding. The boys are really happy. And when Brynlee’s better, I promise I’ll go through with the rejection.”

“How is your sister?” He asks and my heart sinks.

“The same.” There’s no hiding my disheartened tone. “I don’t understand. She’s not getting any worse, so it seems her wolf is alive. But then why isn’t she getting better?
