Chapter Ninety-Three: Without You

“He…”

The simple syllable, ‘Help’, burns as it comes from my throat; rather, my entire body feels as if it's burning from the inside out.

Do I have a fever?

"Wa...ter."

I try to sound out the words as I smack my lips together just to see if any moisture can be savoured from my mouth.

"There is water on the bedside table."

Matteo's voice sounds electronic as if said by a speaker; either way, I still look for him.

My eyes finally take in the room, its marble walls, expensive paintings and vases, and even the luxurious bed, but no curtain meaning no windows.

Wherever I am, he can see me, but I can't see him. If that’s the case, then where are the cameras?

"Wh..."

My voice cracks, so I turn to the water. Raising my body proves difficult, and my arm, which I support myself with, feels as if it will fall apart.

It's bandaged neatly, but the neatness doesn't speak for the pain.

"My babies. Where are my babies?"

The question comes in a whisper; it's clear I need the water first.
