Chapter 3. Unsupervised

Luke's Pov

"...between me and him, who would you choose?" I heard the vile women ask the Alpha. And even though I told myself that the question was unimportant and I didn't need it to judge my closeness with the Alpha based on that, I folded when I heard his answer.

"You, of course."

I walked away, leaving the lovestruck mates to their intimate moment. I didn't know why but I felt as though my world was crashing around me and I was losing all sense of control.

Was it because of Alpha's answer?

I clenched my fists tightly and stared straight ahead.

Even though I wouldn't admit it out loud, I was threatened by Anna's existence in the heart of my Alpha. However, it wouldn't last for long. I had to do something about it. Thankfully, there was a gap in my Alpha's heart which made him unable to trust fully and I was going to use that to my advantage.

Four days later***

My plan was going right as orchestrated. At dawn, Anna's parents were holding two pots of wine in hand and sent them to their errand boy. On the way, he took a break to greet his friends and left the pots of wine unsupervised. I took the brief moment wisely and poured in the poison I'd gotten recently in both pots. Now I just had to wait for the right timing. I hid and watched the errand boy go back to the pots, and walk to the pack house. He went first to the former Alpha's room and delivered the wine.

I hid secretly and heard the conversation between him and the errand boy.

"Finally, my friends decided to send the wine. I've been having a little trouble keeping warm without it."

"Sorry it took a bit longer, sir. My superiors wanted to make more than usual because of their daughter's mate."

"Oh?" I could hear the thoughtfulness in his voice, "Who is the lucky man?"

"Well… it's your son, sir."

"Huh? Haiden?!"

"Yes sir,"

"Since when? Why didn't no one tell me?!"

"It's been a week sir, and you've been having flare-ups so no one wanted to disturb you."

"Nonsense! This is such great news! Even if the messengers are useless, why didn't Haiden come here himself to tell me he'd found his mate? Does he think that about me?"

I tried hard to resist scoffing.

The former Alpha was an old fart. Everyone knew how he'd abused Haiden as a child, putting him in overly dangerous positions and having him self-regulate his emotions and behavior. Thus, making him mature quicker than others but also instilling in him deep wounds that would take an eternity to heal.

He must be a very entitled person to think Haiden would forgive him that easily and be all mushy buddy with him. In honesty, that was a very grunt mentality to live with. He didn't deserve to live. If I were the Haiden, I'd have killed him long ago, like I killed my father.

The errand boy soon left the former Alpha's room without noticing me. He was an Omega after all.

After he left, I pushed open the doors, revealing the former Alpha dunking down the bottle of wine without hesitation. I smiled and as I turned to close the door, I heard the sudden halt in his action.

"Luke, you brat, what are you doing here?"

I turned to face him with a smirk, scanning the rage on his face as he looked at me annoyedly.

The former Alpha didn't like me because 'apparently, I was a wolf in sheep's clothing'

Back then, Haiden was in search of his independence, so he chose me, whom his father did not like, to assert his authority and control over Blue Thunder.

I took a step forward, and he dropped the pot of wine causing the immediate floor to be pooled with wine and shattered glasses.

"Y-you," As he pointed at me, I lifted my chin confidently, confirming his suspicions.

"You poisoned…" he grabbed the front of his chest as though that would help.

I sped in front of him and grabbed his neck in an instant causing him to choke on his breathing.

"You've lived well for a decade without contributing to the pack, because of our Alpha. It's about time you die."

The former Alpha's eyes rolled back, the effect of the poisoned wine. I pushed him back to the bed and grabbed the nearest pillow.

"Y-you dog! G-going after your master."

I smiled, it really looked like that.

"I'm not going to bring any harm to Haiden though. He's my Alpha and the closest thing to a puppet. As long as he doesn't betray me, I won't betray him."

"T-then…"

"I need you to die to frame Anna and her parents," I said nonchalantly, "Only that way…" I slammed the pillow into the former Alpha's face and kept a stoic face as he struggled to escape.

"...I will be the Alpha's most trusted person,"

After some time passed, he stopped struggling. I moved the pillow from his face and scoffed, "You're lucky to die with your body intact."

I fixed the pillow and went to open the doors before screaming, "Someone! Someone!" At the sound of my calls, I heard howls nearby.

I smirked and waited for them to arrive.

"Beta?" Werewolves in both their human forms and wolf form arrived and I said sharply, "The former Alpha has been poisoned by the two Gammas, and has died. Capture them immediately. I'll go to the Alpha quickly and stop him from drinking the poisoned wine." With that, I shifted into my wolf and dashed off. This was too easy.
