CADE’S POV

"Tell me, are you interested in knowing the secret I found out?" my mom asked Emily, her eyes glinting with malice.

Emily's gaze snapped to mine, her eyes wide with surprise and confusion. I felt a pang of dread, knowing that the truth was on the verge of being exposed. I had always wanted to protect Emily from the painful memories of our past, but now it seemed that my mom was determined to reveal everything.

I returned the smile, trying to reassure her, but I knew she was scared. We both were.My uncle and his family owned the island, and everyone here seemed to be under their control.
