Storm
I was turning eighteen in two weeks, and when I did, I would find my fated mate, or soul mate in human terms. Josh’s birthday was three days after mine. There was once a time when I was still a kid when Josh and I had been friends. Back then, I had hoped my fated mate would end up being Josh. But now? Now I was constantly worried that in two weeks’ time I’d find out Josh is my mate and just like my mother, I’d be stuck with an unfaithful mate for the rest of my life. If that were to happen, I would be destined to live my mother’s disastrous life all over again. Well, no thank you. Living through it once had been enough.
“Well, well, well, lookie who finally showed up! Had enough of getting the men folk all hot and bothered on the dance floor, have you?” Josh asked, as he looked at me with a smirk on his face.
Before I could respond, Cameron said, “Oh there you are! Girls, may I introduce you to Emma and Alice,” as he gestured to the two bimbos standing beside him. The two bimbos were looking at Josh with stars in their eyes, clearly not realising that after tonight he and Cameron wouldn’t even remember either of their names or think of either of them again. Hell, come tomorrow morning, the boys would be out looking for new conquests. That was just how they were. They went through girls the same way a new mother went through baby wipes. These girls were so naïve that it was beyond stupid. I took another swig of my bourbon and cola, needing the alcohol to help me to deal with these two idiots.
Suddenly, realising what he had said, one bimbo piped up and said, “Um, our names are Amberley and Annalise.”
Her tone was super bitchy and filled with annoyance at Cameron's mistake. At her words and the look of annoyance on her face, I couldn’t help myself. I burst into laughter, spitting my mouthful of drink out of my mouth and onto the ground, at the exact moment that Kat snorted before breaking out into hysterical laughter at Cameron’s predicament.
They had forgotten the girl’s names already! Hell, that had to be a new record for those two! Cameron looked uncomfortable at his stuff up. He looked at the girls, then glared at Kat and me for laughing at his mistake, not liking to look stupid in front of the girls. Before anyone could say anything though, Josh stepped in as smooth as silk with his rich Italian tanned skin, jet black hair and bright blue eyes.
Ever the trusty wingman, he said, “Ladies you will have to excuse my friend here, he has had a long day at work, and he has had hardly any sleep, it was an honest mistake, just a slip of the tongue, I can assure you.”
“Yeah, that’s what it was,” Kat snapped in a sarcastic tone as she glared at Josh.
“Are we able to play a game of beer pong, or are we going to have to waste our night watching you hit on bimbo one and bimbo two?” I asked, feeling annoyed.
Cameron glared at me, then turned his glare back onto Kat. Before Cameron could say a word, Kat threw up her hands up in front of her and said, “You know what, forget it, I won’t play!”
“Looks as though you will need a partner hot stuff,” said Asher, throwing his arm around my shoulders and making me cringe. Ever since my father had started abusing me, I hated men touching me, so ordinarily I would have already thrown his arm off of me. But deciding to take this opportunity to get my own back and annoy Cameron and Josh a little bit for a change. Keeping in mind what we had discussed earlier at the bar, I knew that I was playing with fire. But I wasn’t going to pass up this opportunity. I turned to Asher, and in my most seductive voice I said, “Well, maybe you could be my partner.”
Asher wrapped his other arm around my waist, pulling me into him, so my body was pressed up against his. Then he said, “Yes, I could be yours, for as long as you want me, you little cutie.”
“Ooh my baby Storm here would love that, wouldn’t you Storm?” Kat asked giggling and winking at me. She turned back to Asher and said, “No one can keep up with our girl Storm here, you will have your work cut out for you with this one.”
“Kat!” I snapped, making her laugh out loud.
Don’t get me wrong, she really was a good friend, and I loved her, but when she had been drinking, she tended to get mouthy and obnoxious. When she said things about me that were nobody’s business, that is when I really got annoyed with her, because truth be told, I was still a virgin. The last thing I needed was for people to think that I was a pack slut. And that is exactly what people would think of me if they paid attention to what Kat was saying right now.
“Kat?” a voice broke in. I looked over to my left and saw the man who had been by Kat’s side since we had gotten our drinks at the bar. “My name is Lucas, and while I am sure that my friend Asher here is undoubtedly happy you are spilling Storm’s deepest darkest secrets to all of us. I’d relish the opportunity, to get to know more about you and your hidden talents.”
I watched in satisfaction as Kat broke out into a bright blush at Lucas’ words. Wow, the guy had managed to render her speechless. That had to be a record. I had never met someone who could shut Kat up before. This was going to be interesting to say the least.
“Well, I guess I will start then,” Josh bit out, his voice dripping in venom. I looked at Josh, and when I saw the resentment on his face, I thought to myself, ‘suck it, Josh.’
Josh took his turn, and the game began. Throughout the game, Asher and I paid no attention to Cameron and Josh. Whenever we weren’t taking our turns, we appeared to the casual observer to be too busy, lost in a deep, quiet conversation with each other. For me, though, the conversation was just nonconsequential chitchat. I will admit, I felt a little bad that I was using Asher just to get back at Josh. And I was concerned about what Asher might do in retaliation given our earlier conversation. But when I started thinking like that, I reminded myself that in a few more days, I would no longer be here, so it didn’t really matter what I was doing tonight.
I could constantly feel Josh’s eyes on me throughout the game, and I knew that mine and Asher’s so-called flirtations were driving Josh insane. He was so hypocritical! He could take other women home, or screw them in cars, and janitorial closets, or in pools and swimming holes, and wherever else he chose to get his rocks off. But Heaven forbid other men should give me the slightest little bit of attention or find me interesting enough to divulge in simple conversation with me!
I knew the only reason Josh would want me to be his mate, is because I was from an Alpha family. My blood would provide his future children with a better standing within the pack, if we were to have children. Given who Josh was, I hoped with everything I had, that he and I weren’t fated mates. Honestly, I could well do without being stuck with someone as self-absorbed as Josh for a fated mate. Because at the end of the day… he was just like my father!
Being stuck with him for the rest of my life would be a total nightmare!
I glanced over to Kat and Lucas and saw that they were oblivious to everything that was taking place around them. They were so wrapped up in each other and completely lost in each other’s eyes. I was so happy for Kat! She just seemed so happy! As I watched her, I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that she had found her fated mate. The thought of this made the fact that I would soon be leaving her easier to live with. Knowing she’d have someone to help her cope with my abandonment when I left here, had me feeling a little less guilty.
I was only half listening to the story that Asher was telling me, as I stood there with my back to Cameron and Josh and the pool table, when I felt an extremely heavy-handed tap on my shoulder. I assumed that it was Josh or Cameron being annoying as usual, and I hissed “Piss off,” while shrugging my shoulder to remove the hand.
“Language little girl! Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?” an annoying but familiar voice taunted me. I felt a pang at the words when the voice continued saying. “Just kidding, no one is game enough to kiss you! You’d more than likely go all psychotic rabid wolf on them if they did!” I turned around and found myself looking into the eyes of Winter’s mate Felix, who was smirking at my obvious annoyance at his words. I glared at him in mock anger as he stood there in front of me with his arms folded, looking at me with an amused look upon his face.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, faking a bitchy voice, and crossing my arms over my chest.
“Storm, you aren’t meant to be here, you know that. You are underage. If Winter found out you were here, she would be incredibly angry with you!” he stated.
“Felix, come on. I was just dancing with Kat and playing beer pong,” I replied, trying to placate him.
I could tell by the look on his face he understood why this time with Kat was so important to me. Winter had told him enough about our situation for him to be aware that mine and Kat’s time together was running out.
Leaning in close to him I whispered, “Felix, I am leaving here soon. Kat is my friend and has been since we were both in diapers, and soon she will be nothing but a memory to me. I am determined that I am going to make the last memories I have with her good ones.”
Felix leaned in towards me so that he wouldn't be overheard by anyone around us. “I understand that. I do, but it is nearly two in the morning. You are seventeen years old, and you should have been home hours ago. I am not trying to ruin your final bit of time with your friend, but I don’t want you getting into trouble with your father. We don’t want to give your father or your brother any reason to look in your direction, not with the plans that Winter has put in motion. You need to keep off their radar. I don’t want Winter getting caught in the firing line either,” he stated.
Storm I took in his words, and after a moment I nodded. He was right. If I wanted our escape plan to go off without a hitch, then I needed to stay out of my father and my brother’s way. I needed to fly under the radar and not attract any unwanted attention from either of them. If I were to get on their nasty side now, it would throw a spanner into the works. Effectively ruining our escape plan and seeing me trapped in this never-ending vicious cycle I had been caught in with the men in my family since my mother’s death. Felix was flying back out to Germany in two days’ time, to return to his pack. Felix’s father was his pack’s Alpha, and Winter had met him last month when he had flown over here to America with his parents to attend a conference with our pack, along with several other packs in the Texas area. I remember how excited Winter had been when she had first met Felix. She was twenty-one now and had been waiting to find her mate since she had
Storm Now, standing here in front of him, I had had enough of his crap. Now that he could see that someone appeared to be showing an interest in me, he was annoyed about it, and he had begun to think he had the God-given right to sabotage what he interpreted to be my new love interest by acting in the manner of a typical jealous boyfriend. “Thank you for your concern, Josh. But you can leave now and take those two bimbos with you. Screw them and then just throw them away, just like you always do. Like you have done with every other girl you have ever slept with and then thrown away, as though she was nothing more than yesterday’s trash. I don’t give a stuff what you do anymore. I couldn’t care less. But I am going home with whoever I want to, and there ain’t a damn thing you can do or say about it.” As I spoke, the venom in my voice was coming through plain as day. Cameron was standing back, a short distance away from us with bimbo one
Storm I woke up the next morning and it wasn’t long before the thought that today was my last day with Kat sank in. Laying there, I felt the ache in my chest as the tears gathered in my eyes. I was going to miss her when I left here, but my leaving here had to happen. There really was no other option for me. My survival depended on me getting out of here and making a life for myself elsewhere. In this case, 'elsewhere,' being as far away from here as humanly possible. Thinking about how tomorrow meant that I would no longer be living here in this pack, slightly eased the ache in my chest. Soon I would be free of this place for good. I was meeting Kat for lunch today at a local cafe in town. For Kat, it would just be a normal lunch, the same as we did each week, but for me, it would be a farewell lunch. The only thing was, I would have to make sure that Kat didn’t catch on to what I was up to. I had told Winter that I would be spending the morning packing my b
Storm I snuck outside of the Alpha residence and made my way towards the eight-foot concrete wall which surrounded the Alpha residence. Crouching behind an enormous tree in the garden, I watched as two of my father’s guards made their way past my hiding spot. Even though these guards were assigned to protect the entire Alpha family, my father and Mason had turned the guards against me and Winter, just as they had done everyone else within the pack. So, if the guards caught on to my presence and I was captured, it would mean trouble for me for sure. I waited until the guards were out of sight, and when I could no longer see them; I ran over to the wall hiding among the trees near the wall. When I was sure the coast was clear, I crawled behind the shrubby bush which covered the hole in the wall that I used to sneak in and out of the Alpha compound. I crawled through the hole and found myself between the wall and another bush which hid the hole on the outside of
Storm When Winter arrived, I was relieved to see that she had brought Felix with her. Winter and Felix sat with us and joined in for a brief chat with Kat so that we wouldn’t appear suspicious. It wasn’t long before Winter suddenly announced that we had to be leaving, because we had somewhere that we needed to be. Thankful that Winter had come up with an excuse for us to leave, I got up from the table, glad to be away from Asher, and hugged my friend for the very last time. I held onto her tight, and when I let her go, I saw the curious look she gave me. So that she didn’t ask me questions that I wouldn’t be able to answer, I simply said, “I will call you tomorrow and see where you are at, and what your plans are, maybe we can go do something together, okay?” Seeming happy with that, Kat smiled at me and nodded. As soon as we got into Winter’s SUV, unable to hold my emotions at bay anymore, I burst into tears. Winter who was sitting in the back seat
Storm Setting my backpack on one of the shelves in my wardrobe, I started arranging my outfit for tomorrow. Selecting a pair of black yoga pants with lime green pin stripes that ran down the sides, along with a lime green long sleeved tee shirt and a dark purple zip up jacket, and a pair of Nike runners. I put the clothes on the shelf beside my backpack ready for in the morning. With my outfit and everything I needed ready for tomorrow morning; I made my way downstairs where I found Felix and Winter snuggled up on the couch watching a movie. When Winter saw me, she smiled, and I sat beside her on the couch, and watched the movie until it was time for us to make our way into the dining room for dinner. When we got into the dining room, I felt relieved when I saw that Winter, Felix and I were the only ones who would be eating dinner that evening. Everyone else must have been out, as there were no other places set at the table. The three of us ate our meal quiet
Storm The flight from Houston to Dublin took just under ten hours. On the flight, I did what Winter and Felix had said, and set up the phone with my favourite apps and downloaded music onto Spotify. We were halfway over the Atlantic Ocean when Winter and I had renounced our ties to the Hunter’s Moon Pack, which meant that we no longer had any links to that pack. During the flight, Winter had sent me a text message that contained the details for my new email account and various other accounts that she had set up for me in my new identity. She also gave me my newly forged documents that her friend had made for me. I took a quick look at my new identity, noting the name, Lena Wolf, smiling at the irony of the name, as I placed everything into my backpack. By the time we had landed in Ireland, it was almost three o’clock in the afternoon. Seeing as how all of us were exhausted from the long flight, we decided we would eat our dinner and sleep on the plane for the
Storm When we arrived at the door of my dorm room, I knocked on the door just out of courtesy, not wanting to make a poor impression with my roommate by walking in on something gross, say like my roommate shagging a guy on the kitchen table for example. When the room’s door opened, a girl with blonde hair and blue eyes answered it, her scent hitting me, immediately alerting me to the fact that she was a werewolf. I felt a cold shiver run along my spine as I realized I was going to be living on another pack’s territory. In my excitement at the thought of finally getting away from my pack and beginning a new life for myself, I had never even thought of this being a possibility. Being here with this girl was dangerous. I was in just as much danger, maybe more, living here with this girl as I had been living within my old pack. Packs hate rogues, and I was now a rogue after having renounced my pack ties with my father’s pack. Masking my features to hide my concer
Storm The next morning, Doyle was so excited about the pregnancy that he couldn’t contain his excitement. From the moment we had woken up, he had been grinning like the cat that had gotten the cream, the milk, and the canary. When we had gotten Dalton and gone downstairs, he had announced it to everyone at the breakfast table. There had been cheers and congratulations and a few dirty jokes, but everyone was just as excited as we were about our new little surprise. After breakfast, Doyle had announced a pack meeting just as he had promised he would, and we had left to go to the place where my induction ceremony had taken place. When we arrived, I had looked at all the pack members who had been so warm and welcoming towards me and who could not contain their joy for me and Doyle when Dalton had been born; they had welcomed me into the pack as if I was part of their family. Now I was a little worried that they were all going to hate me
Storm We had flown back to Ireland, and I was glad to be back home. Doyle and I had hugged our baby boy close as soon as we had gotten home, and we had spent the evening watching movies with Leah, Lilly, and Julie. Mike had joined us as well. It had been a good family night. Before we had left Texas, Winter had pulled me aside and asked me so many questions about my life in Ireland. I know she wanted to make sure that I was happy, and that I was safe. I understood the protective side of her. She had stepped into the role of my mother right after our mother had been killed. I had explained everything to her. I had told her about Dalton, and I had explained to her that as a mother, I had held off mentioning him before, because I was protecting him. My baby had been the most important thing in my life, and I couldn’t risk Mason or our father finding out about his existence. As a new mother, Winter understood where I was coming from in that matter. We had talked about ou
Storm "I am only going to say this once, so all of you fuckers had better listen. I mean it, every single one of you. Even if Winter, Leon, Finn, and I have to tag-team it and fight our way through every member of this pack and have bodies piling up left, right and centre. I can firmly assure you, one way or another Finn and Leon will be the Alpha’s of this pack by sundown. Or at least what would be left of this pack anyway, because if anyone has earned the right to go on a killing spree through this fucked up pack… it is me! And rest assured if I start fighting any of you, those two will be right in the thick of it, so good luck with that,” I said, pointing to Doyle and Sean. “Now Josh, pull your head out of your ass and think before you speak. Because, since I have been back here, all you mutts have been acting as if this is all my fault. Like things suddenly went bad after I left! Lightbulb moment for all of you. Things were always bad in this pack and had been si
Storm I looked back towards the pack and said, “Members of the Hunter's Moon Pack as the two rightful heirs to this pack my sister Winter and I are going to install leadership for this pack. So, may I present to you, our choices for dual leadership, Leon, and Finn Weber. They are Alpha Felix’s brothers, so they are from an Alpha family, and they have our full support in this matter. So, if all of you screw up, we will all kick you asses.” Josh stepped forward, “Like hell, no way! You pair of traitorous bastards ran away like little cowards in the dead of the night. Where were the two of you when the pack was under attack? Hiding just like cowards, that’s where! Neither one of you deserves to be Alpha of this pack!” Josh spat; anger clearly displayed on his face. “And let me guess Josh. I suppose you think you deserve to be the Alpha of this pack!” I said looking at Josh and laughing in disgust. “I would be a better Alpha then either of you!” he
Storm As soon as we landed in Texas, Doyle hired an SUV to take us to the Hunter’s Moon pack’s territory. Upon our arrival there, it surprised me to see just how much damage had been done during the attack. There were burned out structures everywhere, and I could tell by the small number of people that were out and about tidying up, that the pack had suffered quite a significant loss in pack numbers. As soon as people saw me, I began receiving looks of hostility and blame. I didn’t let this phase me though. I didn’t like these people any more than they liked me. And as far as I was concerned, I didn’t care what they thought of me. I was standing beside Doyle and Sean when I sent a text to Winter. Me: Back in hell, where are you? Winter: Back on Texas soil, be with you soon xx Looking at one of the men who was standing nearby, I said, “You need to call a pack meeting now. Every pack member must be in attendance. Tell all the p
Storm During the flight I went and lay down in the master bedroom. I had so much on my mind, and I was totally wiped out. Plus, I was concerned about my baby. Separation anxiety had kicked in big time and had left me crying just like a baby. A while later, after my cry baby episode, I was laying in the dark trying to clear my head when Doyle came in. When he looked at me, he could see I had been crying. He came over to the bed and lay down beside me, pulling me into his arms. I lay there in his arms, with my head on his chest. “What’s wrong?” he asked. “Separation anxiety,” I whispered. “You’re missing Dalton?” he asked. I nodded in answer to his question. “I miss him already,” I whispered. “That is normal love. You will be worrying until you have him in your arms again and can see with your own eyes that he is safe,” he replied. I lifted my head, bracing all my weight on my right arm. I looked down at him for a moment before p
Storm Three weeks later I was in the nursery restocking baby supplies with Leah when Lilly came upstairs to tell me that Doyle wanted to see me in his office. “Why didn’t he just use mind link and tell me?” I asked. “I don’t know, he just told me that if I saw you, I was to tell you he wanted to see you in his office,” Lilly replied. “Better go down there, you don’t want to keep him waiting,” Leah said. I walked out of the nursery and made my way to Doyle’s office. When I got there, I saw that Sean was sitting at Doyle’s desk, in the chair opposite Doyle. I walked in and closed the door behind me. “We have got some news for you,” Doyle said as I walked over to his desk. “Okay…” I replied, taking a seat beside Sean. “We have received word that the Hunter’s Moon pack was attacked and that the pack has lost many of their pack members. I thought you should know,” Doyle said, watching me closely so he could get
Storm “Lena, what the fuck?” snapped James glaring at me. “Watch your mouth!” Sean snapped back. “You don’t ever speak to your Luna like that, or you will have me to deal with! Do you understand me?” Doyle asked glaring at James. “Yes Alpha, my apologies,” James said lowering his eyes. “Don’t apologise to me boy, apologies are owed to your Luna,” Doyle growled. “Apologies Luna,” James said looking at me. I met his gaze and just gave him a deep guttural growl. So, he could lower his eyes in respect to Doyle, but not to me. Suddenly I was annoyed, and my wolf was feeling bitchy and decided she needed to show it. She decided it was time to call James out on his shit and I agreed with her. It was past time to sort this crap out. Opening my mind link to the pack members within the room, I asked, “James, where were you and Daniel the day that the girls and I went for a run and got attacked by the rogues at the stream? You and
Storm After my father’s phone call, we finished up our pack business in Doyle’s office before making our way downstairs to check on Liam and the girls and the baby. When I got downstairs, I saw James and Daniel and James’ mate Sophie in the lounge room with Liam and the others. Well, well, well looks like today is my lucky day. It had been ages since I had seen Daniel and James, so it surprised me to see them and Sophie sitting there with Liam and the girls like it was an everyday occurrence. Sophie was getting too close to Leah and Dalton for my liking. After what that bitch had tried to do to Lilly, my wolf and I wanted her dead. I looked at Lilly who was sitting in the lounge's corner suite, curled up in a ball and looking like she was about to burst into tears. I could feel my wolf clawing within me to get out and wanting to kill Sophie to protect Dalton and Lilly. Before I could lock her down, my wolf took total control, and she forcibly shifted me int
