BEATRICE POV

I shut the door quietly behind me, exhaling a long breath I didn’t know I was holding.

I did it. I told her finally. Closing my eyes, leaning on the wall next to her door, I let my tears fall. She doesn’t deserve this... she deserves to have a beautiful, happy and fulfilled life...not tainted by my mistakes.

‘You didn’t do anything wrong!!’

‘Maybe I did, I don’t know anymore..., maybe I could’ve paid more attention to Susanne and her feelings…maybe I would’ve seen her pain...’

‘Humph...pain! She is a pain in the ass!!’ says Lotus, clearly pissed off. ‘I know it’s hard, Josie is my pup too! So... crying time is over, get your shit together, we have to find a solution, and fast!’

I know she is like this because she disagreed from the beginning of our plan to hide this fact, and not involve Josie. Lukas and I, we thought that in all these years, we will come up with something and Josie will never need to find out...she would just live her life like a normal kid, enjoying her teenager years. I know she is smart, sometimes in a weird kind of way, but that is one of her talents. But again, Fate has other plans. She knows now, and it was one of the hardest things I had to do. Watching her pain-filled eyes when I told her that she could not meet her mate in person, it was heart-breaking. I know she doesn’t admit it, but she longs for her mate... who doesn’t?

Lotus is right. I cannot go on the same depression path. Not again. Lukas helped me a lot in the first 3 years after the birth of the triplets, when my depression and anxiety were on top of the mountain. The fear that I still experience whenever I realize that I cannot properly protect my baby in front of all the dangers in the world, and especially this one…which appears more and more to be inevitable.

‘You know, that I can hear your thoughts, right?’

‘Yes dear, I’m sorry, let’s do this!’ I tell her, opening my eyes, trying to find courage to move and while Lotus envelopes me in a coat of hope and determination. Thank you, Goddess, for pairing me with her, she is way stronger than I am.

‘You are, too! You’ll see.’ she adds more like murmuring to herself.

I wonder sometimes if she knows more than she lets out.

As I’m approaching Lukas’s office, I hear whispers down the hall, and as Lotus senses my need to hear what they are saying, she lends me her enhanced hearing.

“I tell you; she is not fit to rule this pack! She’s cursed! I heard the Alpha and Luna whispering last night in the kitchen, while I was bringing the clean clothes from the laundry... “

“Hey, don’t say that! Josephine will be a good Alpha; she is smart and hard-working!” said the other voice

“She is weak and nerdy! Those are not qualities for a ruler!” protested the angry voice.

I couldn’t help myself anymore and a menacing growl emanated from my chest, as I approached the two Omegas that were cleaning an empty guestroom.

“How dare you say that about your future Alpha?! How dare you speak like that about my daughter???! “

“I’m sorry, Luna, I didn’t think that...”

“That’s the problem, you didn’t think!!!” I snapped. “You are to respect your leaders, as you yourself are treated with fairness and respect!! You can voice your concern regarding our future leader in a civil way through an audience, or through your higher ranks, such as the Beta or the Gamma of the Pack!” I state displeased with the whole situation. Once a rumor is on the run, a lot more will follow.

“What’s happening here??” comes the determined voice of my husband. “Are you alright??” he asks me, when he spots my infuriated mood and my clenched fists.

“I will be alright.  Right after I change Diana’s assignments as our employee”. Right then, the omega that didn’t know her place, stiffened when she heard that I knew her by name. I know each and every member of our pack, with their backstories. Diana was never the one to hide her opinions about life itself, meanwhile she appeared to be respectful towards us. I will keep an eye on her from now on, even from a distance. “You will be assigned to work at the social Centre as cleaning staff. Starting today!!”

“Yes, Luna” she said, showing her neck in submission. I walked in Lukas’s office as the 2 girls left the floor. Lukas was watching me intently.

“What happened? I know you can handle it yourself, I want to know what to expect from now on”

“Expect some challenging rumors. Those girls were just saying how Josie isn’t fit to rule this pack, because she is cursed.” I felt so much anger towards this situation. Pack members must have faith that their rulers have their best interest, and will protect them while keeping  justice and showing compassion. Now it’s not a time for fear to be instilled in the souls of many. Distrust creates fear and  fear creates…well, monsters.

“How did they know about the curse?? We are the only ones that know about this, and your father..” Lukas asked with a frown on his face.

“Diane heard us last night. I don’t know where she was hiding, or if it was by accident, but she was eavesdropping, thus she heard bits of what we we’re talking about…” I am not sure if sending her to the social Centre is a good idea, but I don’t want to have her around here anymore. I will notify the guards there to keep an eye on her, and also, I will tell Felipe to watch her in fulfilling her duties, in case somethings feels amiss.

“Is it safe to let her wander with that kind of information? I will command her vefore she leaves, not to tell anyone again what she heard. And her friend as well.”

His eyes blazed, and I knew he was already mind-linking Mrs. Clark to let her know that after Diana packs her things, to head upstairs in his office alongside Miriam, the other Omega she was gossiping with.

“It is done, she will come here in 15 minutes” he said with a calmer voice, wrapping his muscular arms around my waist, pulling me in his arms, as he buries his nose in my neck from behind. I lean on him, trying to relax… Something I find hard to do, having so many worries for the day to come…

“Let me have a look again in my mothers’ journal, please. Maybe I overlooked something…” I say, again trying to find places to look for a solution.

“Although we’ve been already through it at least 23 times since we found it, maybe 24th is with some luck” he says trying to ease up the mood. “So... let’s see” he adds, just as he touches 5 seconds the baby crib painted in our family portrait, given to us by my father short after the triplets we’re born. Lukas added a sensor there which enables a fake bookcase to lean down slightly, just to notice the user on which book should he or she press more to unlock the mini-vault we have hidden here in his office. Every time the mechanism chooses randomly a different book, a wall of switches being hidden behind the bookshelves, just in case someone spots the book trick.

After he presses on the side of the leaned book, a small opening under Lukas’s desk reveals itself, in the middle of it being a carved symbol of a moon with tendrils of flames surrounding it. He then takes his wedding ring, places it so that the ring would top over the moon, and then a small door underneath the massive wooden desk opens, showing something wrapped in an old cloth. Seems to be a drastic measure to keep something so lame like a journal inside a tight secured system…but the information inside in the wrong hands…could destroy as all.

We found my mother’s journal a couple of years ago, actually, my father found it. He could not open it being locked by my mother’s magic…and he insisted that I have it. Initially I thought that I was better off without something so personal from her…my resentment towards her abandon was still a part of me. And then Lukas reminded me that maybe we could find something useful to end the curse… and I took it.

I didn’t know how to open it until one day when I was inspecting it to find some hidden buttons or mechanism to unlock it, my nose started bleeding all of a sudden, and a drop of blood fell on the corner of the book. Then the book itself started to glow, and my mother’s witch symbol appeared on the cover, and when I tried to open the journal then, it opened without any resistance. Seems like someone out there was watching and made it obvious for me on how could I open this. Selene…Hecate…who knows…

I started reading all the spells that she gathered in her lifetime, all the important events of the coven, all the participants with their backgrounds until the 3rd generation back, all the curses she invented in detail, all the potions, and a part of hidden history of magic which she discovered through insights…dangerous information. But I found nothing to help me rescue my daughter…

‘Alpha, Luna!!!’ comes a panicked voice through the mind-link. ‘Diane is gone! I cannot find her, it’s like she vanished!!! I’m sorry, I’m so sorry… I should’ve stayed with her to pack her things!!’ mind-links Mrs. Clark, sounding extremely worried.

JOSIE’S POV “Hey Sarah, how are you girl?” I ask my best friend and desk mate as casual as I can. “Oh-oh…what’s wrong?” her speaker-voice sounds worried. Damn, she knows me to well. “Well...how? what…? I…urgh…never mind. I swear you have some fortuneteller genes in you.” “I can read you like a book. Even over the phone. Ha-ha, perk of being around you so many hours per day, per week etc. So, tell me, what’s up?” “You should come over. Can you call Steph and his brother?” “You sure you want Zane to come over…?” she asks not sure of my decision. Zane is Stephen’s older brother, and my ex… we ended up nicely; still things changed in time and our interaction was never the same as before. But whenever we are all gathered, the group energy was as beneficial, and positive as always. Half nerds, half the youth power that everybody in this pack will rely on in the future. “Yeah, I’m sure, I need smart brains, with useful hands and eyes.” “Hmm… should I contact Tanja and Marco as well

JOSIE’S POV Feeling strong, I left the room and just as I approached my father's office, I heard them both whispering. They were sitting on top of an old book I had never seen before, looking for something. When I saw the outline of the book something felt weird. I had the sudden urge to touch it like it was calling me. They were so engrossed in what they were doing that they didn't even notice me standing in front of the door. “Ahem!” They looked up at me, startled like I’ve caught them red-handed. “Gotcha’!” The first emotion I saw on my mother's face was fear, as if she had been caught doing something truly forbidden. In the next second, with my father's hand on her shoulder she relaxed and motioned for me to enter. “What is…this?” I asked trying to mask my need to get close to the book. Things look to be serious, so I dropped the playful note. Just as they were about to answer, they both widened their eyes and rushed out of the office. Probably a mind link. “Come down with

BEATRICE – POV I rush downstairs alongside Lukas, and right before we stepped into the packhouse’s kitchen, we heard screaming and shouting coming from the hallway leading to the maid’s chambers. “Help!!! Someone!! Alpha!! Luna! She’s can’t breathe anymore!! Do something! We cannot touch her!” yelled a panicked Oliver, as soon as we reached Diane’s room, pointing towards Mrs. Clark whose face was slowly turning blue due to the lack of oxygen. Lukas swiftly went to her to help her, but as soon as he touched her arm he was zapped by a black jolt of electricity. “I can’t touch her! What the hell is going on??!” I reach to her, putting my hands on her arms while she was watching me with terror-stricken wide eyes, as if asking for my instant help. “You can touch her….” Lukas murmured… “Quickly Bea, see if she has something in her mouth, try Heimlich!!!” Before I try to de-choke her, I have to see if there’s something on the outside that can be seen and I struggle in a second to peel h

JOSIE POV I’ve never felt so alive. So… ‘Complete?’ Flame added in a owe. ‘Exactly!’ I confirmed while staring at my half-enraged mother, her expression now mixed with fear and surprise. Hearing her saying something about my eyes, I turned to the framed mirror on the wall looking at myself, stunned of my own reflection. Bright lime green eyes were peering back at me, as strands of hair were dancing around me like being blown by the wind, all while a semicircular white silver energy field was emitted from my own hand. I felt good, powerful…confident. Who was she to tell me what to do? I felt myself looking back at my mother, tilting my head to the right, a mischievous grin appearing on my lips. Hmm…I like it, actually...I love it. It should scare me, but this raw feeling of almost omnipotence engulfs my mind and... ‘That’s enough, child!’ a soft, yet stern voice inside my mind ordered, and just like that my shield dropped. A blazing headache started violently, and I had to clutch

LEVI’S POV No. I refuse to let her win. For the first time around, I feel that I have a reason to really defeat her…I’m not alone anymore… Looking around me for the 967th time, give or take, the same bewitched walls surrounded me, the same cups and furniture pieces were staring back at me in mockery. She thought of it all. Even the plates, knives and forks were engrained with magic… the plates won’t break, the knives won’t cut - unless is something I eat, otherwise they bend like a rubber whenever I try to do something else with it. Also, 2 times a day a warm meal just appears on the table, fruit basket is always full and a carafe filled with fresh water is always on disposal. She wants me to be well fed apparently. If she needs be to be physically strong then I will use this to my advantage... All my environment is an endless space and time loop. I see from time to time a crack of lightning on the night sky, but it’s not frequent…it’s odd though, because there is no storm aroun

  • Trapped in her mind: Saving the forgotten Lycan   CHAPTER 11. Not alone

LEVI’S POV Ever since that episode, I have learned a lot from my newly received friend. Although he’s behaving sometimes like an ass, I appreciate his support. ‘Watch it! I might change my mind’ he intrudes my trail of thoughts without bothering to ask permission. ‘Never. It’s enough that I have to share this weak body with you’ Somebody’s in a mood today. We had another intense training in the afternoon and I wasn’t quite meeting my beasts’ expectations. Despite the fact I’ve grown in strength and skills in the last 2 years under his guidance, it seems that in his vision, it’s not enough for the upcoming combat. Apparently, he misses his own body and unfortunately, I cannot help him with that. Although he was able to reach me, the curse that my pretend mother put on me, extended not only to my wolf, but also to my Lycan. It’s still hard to believe that I have 2 spirit beasts living inside of me… Balthazaar was blocked by the amulet I managed to sneak away from under her nose, ev

JOSIE’S POV I was entranced. Those eyes were staring at me trying to absorb my very essence… Curiosity, sharpness and…lust? I lifted my hand to try and touch the blurry mirror in front of me that didn’t reflect my own image anymore, and as I touched the cold glass, tiny pleasurable sparks erupted from the contact… We locked eyes, and realization hit me. So, it’s true, he really is my mate… Not ever have I heard of mates recognizing each other through a mirror, but I guess there’s a way for every situation. “Can you hear me…?” I mumbled more to myself than for my “dialog” partner. Tilting his head to the right, a small smirk appeared on his deliciously pink plump lips made for… ‘Yeah, girl, you’re right, our mate is burning hot!!’ Flame rudely interrupted my course of dirty thoughts with her own. With that his eyes flashed golden, as if he and his wolf were reacting to my private conversation. In a good way. Strange color though for wolf eyes, but I’m not complaining as long a

Josie's POV I've let my mom in the care of the pack doctor, who assured us, she would recover after a few hours of rest. After telling dad what we were doing when she fainted, he made it known that each time my mother tries to use her magic, it ends on a hospital bed due to the pain she endures while trying to tap into her powers. Feeling pity and anger for this whole situation my mother was in for years, I barged into the library, startling the night-owls of my friends in front of the laptops and books. "Now that's an appearance. You scared the shit out of me, sis!" Marco said dramatically putting his hand over his heart. "You'll live." replied his loving sister, not bothering to look up from the screen. "So, people, first of all, we have to find out what a Soul Reaper is. Apparently, this creature is responsible for the chaos outside." Patrols were doubled due to this event, and my father contacted the coven and the council representative for our region to report this inciden

JOSIE’S POV As I neared the packhouse, I smelled the distinctive scent of fresh blood. I couldn't see anything amiss, but although I had a perfect night vision, the darkness could easily hide something among the forest that borders our garden. Though it was faint, my sense caught it up. This was not normal. What was lately? 'Sarah! Get the others and head to the back garden. Something's not right. It smells of fresh blood. But there isn't any other scent out here.' 'Be right there!' In less than 10 seconds all of them were here in their wolf form sniffing the light traces of blood. It took us several minutes to find a small puddle of blood at the base of an old oak tree. 'Here is a thin trail of droplets of blood going north, I'll head that way.' mindlinked Steph. 'Zane, go with Steph please, we'll check the surrounding area. If anything, give us the signal.', I continued the group mindlink. 'Ok, boss' replied Steph. Levi’s POV "Did you enjoy your meal...my son?" a sinister cooing voice came from behind me while I was cleaning after breakfast. How dare she call me her son. I could feel Balthasar's shackles rising up, and anger was seeping through me instantly. Without turning, I asked seething my teeth. "What do you want from me?" "I'm the one putting questions here, worm!!" she shouted, followed by a blast of fire whooshing in my direction. I ducked and rolled in the last second, using her surprised state to side-kick her ankles. With a loud thud she collapsed on the floor, and I pinned her easily, my force being multiplied by my beasts. Panic coursed through her eyes but quickly faded, as a smug grin appeared on her face. "I underestimated you, young prince. Maybe you can be useful to me in another way, still alive..." Is that lust in her eyes I spot?? I'm going to vomit. Crazy bitch. Before I got to think my next move her eyes turned orange-red, her body was turning hot underneath m

Josie's POV The words spoken by the woman before me left me reeling. Wasn't she the same person who had advised my grandfather to rebuild his life without my grandmother? After allowing her to have her moment of laughter, I peered into her almond-shaped eyes, a deep shade of hazel, with all the seriousness I could muster."This is not funny. I demand an explanation," I stated, struggling to contain my curiosity and anger."Alright, there is no need for you to get worked up. It would be better if I showed you," she replied, extending her arms towards me with her palms up, waiting for me to place my hand in hers."Come on, I won't bite. This may weaken me for a few hours, but it will be worth it," she reassured me. Still unsure, I tentatively placed my hand in hers. I felt a warmth emanating from her hands, moving up my arms and into my head. My eyes closed on their own, and instead of darkness, I saw a hazy scene that gradually became clearer with each passing second. Before me stoo

My thoughts elude me. Looking at my grandfather's mixture of tears, a blend of joy, sorrow, and regret for all the lost years, I come to the realization that...wait. What do I realize exactly? I, myself, am unsure. My mind is numb. ‘Take a deep breath, Jo. We'll figure it out together. JOSIE’S POV Even though I wanted to tell Sarah everything about my otherworldly encounter with the one who “haunted” my dreams the last couple of years, I’ve decided against it, postponing it for later. She sighed, watching me with concern this time, taking the hint that I don’t wish to get into details right now. “We are here for you and for our pack, whenever you need an ear to listen, just say the word and… I’ll throw a nice sleep-over full off gossip, nail-polish, junk food and binge watching romcoms. I’ll be on my way now, lots to do-o! See you la-ter!” finishing her short encouragement in a sing song voice, winking at me playfully. I’m very lucky to have them on my side. I glanced again at my reflection, this time feeling empowered. After straightening my posture, I marched towards my father’s office. Thinking about what I should ask them, in case they miss something, I heard more voices coming from the office, where the door was left ajar. “You already know my opinion in t

But we did it!! After what took a night and a day’s worth of meditating, and astral concentrating…we pulled it off! I sat cross-legged in the garden, wrapped in the silvered serenity of moonlight, my thoughts reaching across the spirit realm to touch the essence of my distant mate. I saw my bewitching beautiful mate; this time I really saw her in all her beauty… As I discovered last-night that I was indeed watched whenever I felt that ripple of energy in the air, I couldn’t bear to sleep without trying to connect with her.
