The next morning I saw Blake and approached him.
"Hey Blake, about the other night..." I paused as Blake look at me with a terrified expression on his face. He had a ginormous black eye on his face. It must be Connor's handiwork.
"Oh my god, Blake, what happened?" I asked.
Blake looked angry. "Don't pretend like you had nothing to do with this. Connor did this to me for you!" he cried.
"Huh? Why would he do that?" I was confused.
"Go ask him and just stay away from me," Blake said and walked away from me.
I stomped away myself and looked for Connor. I saw him by the water fountain, flirting with some red-headed girl. Well, he moved on fast!
"You jerk! Why did you beat up Blake?" I screamed. The redhead looked at me with a shocked expression on her face. Connor whispered something in her ear, and she walked away, giving me a puzzled look on the way.
"Anya. Blake was no good. I did you a favor. He isn't good enough for you," he said.
"What the fuc...who assigned you the duty to select boys for me? Ansel? Who cares what you think? I liked Blake, and you fucked it up, asshole!" I pushed him, but he didn't move an inch. Let's just say the boy was 6 feet of pure muscles, and I had noodle arms.
"I was just looking out for you," Connor said quietly.
"And what makes Blake a horrible person?" I asked. I need him to tell me one thing that made sense. Just one.
"He..." Connor hesitated.
"He what?" I looked at him impatiently.
"I can't tell you," Connor sighed.
UGH!
I didn't say anything else and just walked away. Maybe he didn't have a good reason. Maybe he was drunk and pissed off at Ansel and decided to take it out on me because Ansel took Jessica from him.
And I was probably right. Connor scared away every guy I tried to date in high school from then on. While Ansel and Jessica were having their romance novel moments, I spent the rest of my high school bitter and lonely, and I'm sure Connor had something to do with it.
You think I'm exaggerating, or I have no proof? Well, think again!
For instance, I was approached by a cute guy named Tyler from my math class. He and I went on a date and had a great time, but then the week after that, he won't even look at me, let alone talk to me. I finally cornered him and asked him what was going on, so he blurted out the truth.
"Connor threatened me," he groaned.
"What? Why?" I demanded to know.
"He said if I ever come near you, he'd break my bones. Look, you are fucking hot, and I liked spending time with you, but you aren't worth breaking bones over. I'm sorry, okay?" Tyler said, and hurried off.
I stomped my way to Connor and grabbed him by his collar.
"Jeez miss violence!" Connor laughed.
"You son of a bitch. Why are you chasing all my dates away? Do you hate Ansel and me this much?" I said with gritted teeth.
"Hate? Just the opposite. I love Ansel. He is my best friend. And I don't hate you either even though you curse me out every day," Connor said.
"Then why? Why are you scaring those guys?" I asked.
"I told you, I'm protecting you from them. They are no good for you," he said.
"Then who is? You?" I asked as a joke. There was no way Connor Williams liked me. And even if he did, I'd reject him right away.
"So what if it is me who likes you? What would you say then? Hmm...?," his sparkling green eyes greeted mine. They were full of mischief. Is this guy for real?
"You like me?" I asked. Even though I hated his guts, I couldn't help but feel curious. What if he really has some unrequited feelings for me, and this was the only way he could get my attention. By sabotaging every possibility of me dating, I mean.
He leaned forward. "Yes, I like you very much," he said and paused. "As a little sister." he grinned.
I groaned loudly and pushed past him. He is so damn infuriating.
No one asked me out after Tyler. After graduation, I couldn't wait to get to college and find a boyfriend, but alas, no-one stuck around long enough. I blame it on that asshole. He probably broke my confidence and made me insecure.
Ansel and Jessica never stopped dating, and I was happy for them. Especially since that jerk wasn't around anymore. And when Ansel proposed, they started to get ready to have their fairy tale wedding. Everything was perfect as love was in the air.
Everything, except for the part where my idiot brother asked Connor to be his best man.
Back to the present...
"What the fuck? Why!?" I cried as soon as I heard the news.
"Watch your language, young lady. Who taught you to curse like this?" my mom Arial Adams looked at me and frowned.
"You did," I said right away.
"Well, quit it," mom said dismissively.
"First, you guys tell me why does Connor have to stay at our house? Why can't he go to a hotel or stay inside the primate habitat at the zoo where he belongs?" I demanded to know.
"Don't be silly. He lives out of state, and your brother needs him here to do wedding stuff. We have plenty of rooms here, so he doesn't need to stay at some hotel." mom said.
"That's some bullshit!" I protested again.
"HEY!" mom warned me again.
"Okay, I'm sorry, but you know I can't stand him," I said.
"I never understood that. He is a fine gentleman. Intelligent, rich, handsome with great abs.." mom continued.
"Eww, mom, stop. His being rich and handsome doesn't make him into an amazing guy. Not everyone is as great as dad.
"Now, now, your dad wasn't always this great. He was kind of a nuisance," mom said.
"I HEARD THAT!" dad yelled from the study.
"All I'm saying is, you shouldn't be so hard on him," mom said, ignoring Dad's remark.
I don't know...was I being too harsh?
"Thank you for having me, Mr. and Mrs. Adams, this will save me a lot of time and money," Connor said to my parents."It is our pleasure, sweetheart. Everyone here loves having you around," mom said."Not everyone," he looked at me and winked. Jerk.
What? Why were there Angelfishes delivered to me? I bet it was Connor. It must be one of his pranks. But giving me gifts wasn't a very good prank. Maybe he thought it'd annoy me, which it kind of did, but it felt nice at the same time.I found him standing in the garden later in the day.
"So you do remember me?" the intruder asked.I had no idea..."Nope. I don't know who you are. How did you get inside the house?" I demanded to know.
I grabbed my clothes and went to the bathroom to change before the police saw me. Soon, I was ready to report my stalker. I was still shaken up from my traumatic experience with the stalker man, so the police briefly questioned me then took him away."You can't tell everyone about this," I told Connor.
The wedding day.Everything was going perfectly. The venue was ready for us to arrive, the sky was clear to have the outdoor ceremony. I put on my dress. I tied my hair in a loose bun with braids and put on some makeup."Wow honey, this dress looks amazing on you!" mom exclaimed.
Well, fuckiddy fuck fuck.I guess I am going out with Connor now. All thanks to my big fat mouth. But whoever thought he'll jump on the Anya train so fast? I thought he was into Jessica?"What do you mean you will date me now?" I asked again.
"Wait, Connor! Where are you taking me?" I said frantically as he dragged me somewhere."Patience cupcake," he chuckled."I can't run in these shoes! My feet hurt!" I complained. I was more of a sneakers and boots gal, you see?
The dressing rooms were in a separate building away from the reception hall. Connor and I quickly headed there.Luckily Jessica and Ansel packed extra clothes to change into after the event was over. Too bad we would be the ones wearing them now.I changed into Jessica's Summer dress and walked
