Raymond rose his eyebrow in surprise, seeing how relaxed Evelyn was under his alpha aura --
Few werewolves can do that, let alone a human girl -- he couldn't sense the existance of a wolf in Evelyn. In suspicion of her species, he leaned in to take a better sniff of her, but to his surprise, that seemed to have startled her more than him using his alpha aura --Evelyn flinched aback, staring at him like a scared kitten. He could hear her heartbeat rocketing high.
He smirked at her nervousness with satisfaction. "So," Raymond pulled back leisurely, "You were just gambling with an empty guess when you mentioned a deal about a school? Very bold." He only fell for it becuase he did just signed a new school contract, but few should know about it, let alone a human nobody! "It WAS a guess," Evelyn nodded, keeping her distance from him, "but I wasn't gambling." Raymond cocked an eyebrow. "Forks University, established in March this year on the best piece of green land on Long Beach by a nothing company a year ago. Everything was shouting luxury about this school, yet it hasn't made a single public advertisement for students, not even teachers." Evelyn explained her deduction with a smirk that she didn't even notice she was having, "It might not have drawn too much attention from normal people, but to a werewolf..." Evelyn left the rest of the sentence unsaid on purpose. "You are not a werewolf," Raymond chuckled at her cocky smirk. "I don't have a wolf, but I do have a werewolf father," Evelyn shrugged indifferently. When bonding with other species, werewolves can have children without a wolf. These children can only be omegas -- the lowest level -- if living in a pack, so most of them choose to live as normal humans and hide their connection with the werewolf community. Raymond furrowed his eyebrows, surprised at how calm Evelyn is about being a low rank. Maybe that's why she came to see him about a job? "Even if so, why would you even notice such a small business deal?" Raymond asked curiously, realizing he couldn't read the girl easily like with other people. "The school's brand-new, magnificent bell tower blocked my ocean-view bedroom window," Evelyn shrugged, "so I dug around to see if by any chance I can get it removed." Raymond cocked an eyebrow so high it disappeared into his hair before he sighed and chuckled. "Alright, miss, I'm sorry for your loss," he finally laughed with a light sarcasm tone, "I don't remember any Stones living around that area though?" It was the Long Beach area. It's not like anyone can just come and go easily. "I'm the long lost daughter of Noah and Sarah White," Evelyn said calmly, but Raymond caught the slight sarcasm in her cocked lips corner. Raymond's eyes traveld back to the contract on the table -- it was the business deal Noah White begged him for for days. Only then did Raymond remember -- he DID know about the Whites finding the daughter switched at birth a few months back. It made the front page when Noah White welcomed the lost daughter with a huge party. Back then, Raymond didn't even know the man who had begged him for a small deal for days was actually the alpha of a small pack, and later, knowing that fact didn't earn Noah any respect from Raymond either. "Speaking of," Evelyn pulled a pen out of her pocket --Sarah put it in her pocket last minute saying it's good manner to provide the pen when asking for someone's signature, "father sent me to get your signature. He said you guys already agreed on the terms?" Raymond let out a light laugh before he shook his head with a resigned smile and took the pen from her. "So, you figured out my school plan, and then got the contract from your father, ALL just to come and ask for a job--oops." Raymond pulled open the pen and ink spilled all over his hands. "Oh my god! I'm so sorry!" Evelyn yelped as she rushed to his side with tissues before she took his palms into hers and wiped... in vain of course, the ink wouldn't come off easily. "It's okay, don't worry about it," Raymond chuckled, leaving his hands in hers as he observed Evelyn closely. Contradictory to what he expected, she didn't seem to be using this opportunity for some physical contact, but seemed genuinely sorry. Evelyn backed off, sitting there with her beautiful eyebrows furrowed. She was too bothered to even notice Raymond's observing stare--Sarah gave her a broken pen?? Didn't the contract mean a lot to Sarah? But if Sarah cared enough to even attend to the small details like providing a pen, why would she not notice that the pen was broken?
Raymond signed the contract quickly before handing it back to her: "So, miss Evelyn, you did all this work, just to come and get a job from me?" "...hmm?" Evelyn snapped out of her mind with a confused look. The slow, innocent enquiring look got another laugh out of Raymond. "You asked to be the trainer of my new school," Raymond reminded her, secretly amazed at the patience he had today, "isn't that why you are here? Don't tell me you are just here to be a messenger for your father." "Well, sort of, actually," Evelyn wrinkled her nose with a shred of awkwardness sliding through her eyes, "our pack is in grave danger, and my father took a few loyal members and escaped into your city, so... I'm here on behalf of my father to deliver the wish of swearing our loyalty to you, Alpha Raymond of pack Millennial." Raymond would have laughed anyone out of the room if they made such a request, but when looking at her solemn face and her nervously gripped fists on her legs, he found himself seriously considering her request. Keeping her head low, Evelyn snatched a peek at Raymond, only to meet his teasing eyes and annoying smirk -- obviously, he noticed her embarrassment as well. "Well, my mission is just to get your signature," Nodding at the contract, Evelyn cleared her throat and darted her eyes away, pretending his gaze had zero effect on her, "I'll understand if you refuse. I know we are asking a lot--" "I don't believe that." "What?" Evelyn blinked in confusion, "what don't you believe?" "That you would understand if I refuse. You planned so much just to talk to me, I don't believe that you'd just give up like this if I say no." Raymond chuckled at the cute kitten. She was so fierce and clever that Raymond found it even more luring when she blushes with embarrassment. This time Evelyn rose her eyebrows in surprise. "Come on," Smirking, Raymond drawled in his sexy style, leaning back with his arms on the back of the couch behind her, "...persuade me." It was as if she was trapped within his territory. "Well..." Evelyn bit her lips. She DID come with her own plan because she didn't think the 10 million contract she brought could neither threaten nor lure THE alpha into taking a family with trouble like how Sarah planned, but now it felt different after Raymond's straightforward seduce! Raymond tilted his head, realizing he was checking her out. His body was heating up quickly, and he found his heart pounding in his chest... Something was wrong! "You built this school for werewolves, right?" Evelyn took a deep breath before she turned to Raymond. "Hmm?" Raymond shook his head, sweat rolling off his collarbone, "Yes... wait, how did you know?!" That was a plan he hadn't told ANYONE! The cocky smile was back on Evelyn's face. "You bought the most expensive land far beyond normal people's reach, and you built the most luxury school, yet you are not thinking about yield at all," Evelyn grinned, her eyes sparkling as she unfold her deduction, "because the profit is not money, for you. So what do you want? What could the Alpha of the most powerful pack possibly want when he already has everything?" Raymond felt like he was lost in her beaming violet eyes. "The answer is," Evelyn didn't notice Raymond's anomaly, "you want the one thing you can't have -- a normal life for werewolves in human society. A place where they don't have to hide their identity and just be the werewolves they are with no worry." Raymond's mind slowed down. He shook his head to clear his thought: "So? What does it have to do with me taking in your family?" "You are doing this not for profit, nor for your position in the pack, so you did it because you care. You care about werewolves' welfare," Evelyn glanced at him, a bit confused at the fact that the alpha was sweating heavily for no good reason, "so I bet you would help a small werewolf pack when they turn to you for help with their loyalty--" Raymond's breath got too heavy for him to ignore his unusual condition. He would have been impressed by Evelyn if he wasn't feeling like a fish out of water. "Raymond-- I mean, sir," Evelyn finally noticed that something was wrong, "are you alright? Can I get you any--" "You drugged me?!" Raymond burst out shouting, his hands shaking as he gripped her wrist before her hand could reach his forehead. His eyes were burning in furious flames."I didn't!" Evelyn yelps in shock, panicking for the first time after she approached him, "What's wrong? Are you feeling sick?"Raymond narrowed his eyes, trying to tell whether Evelyn was telling the truth, but his eyes were losing focus--He wasn't sick.He knew exactly what was happening -- he was drugged, drugged with black tulip, the strongest sex drug there is for werewolves!Evelyn reached out to support him, but he slapped her hand away as he stumbled to the hallway."Wait--" Evelyn followed him worriedly as she pulled out her phone to call for an ambulance, but Raymond grabbed it from her before he growled--"Leave!"Evelyn trembled at the outburst of his alpha aura and froze where she was as Raymond disappeared into the hallway. She stood there for a while with her eyebrows twisted together--He was drugged. That much she could figure out by now.But how?She knew she didn't slip him anything, but Raymond was alright way after EVERYONE left the box, and he didn't drunk anythi
Raymond growled in pain as he flipped off her.Still shaken, Evelyn added a really unnecessary layer of protection -- with a hard kick in the chest, she pushed him off to the ground.Guess the thought of marking was now out of his head, based on the drawling groan that was coming from the ground.Evelyn grabbed her clothes and escaped into the bathroom with her heart pounding in her chest. The lingering fear of almost getting marked by Raymond was so overwhelming that she barely noticed that the light was casting her naked figure perfectly on the frosted glass of a "wall" of the bathroom.Raymond's mind finally cleared up after the pain faded from "wanting to die" to "barely tolerable". A cloud of frustration is suffocating him in his chest due to such a humiliating attack, but realizing what he almost did, Raymond's gratitude overcame his anger.Alpha Raymond doesn't have a mate. And even if he does, that mate certainly can't be some random girl that happened to walk into his room whe
Though it was an hour's walk home, Evelyn chose the hike instead of a cab.She wasn't exactly feeling "homey" at the moment. She always knew her bio mother didn't love her as much as she loved her switched-at-birth sister, but Evelyn didn't know there was a small part of her that was still hoping Sarah had SOME love for her as well.At least enough to not willingly send her to death.Guess that was too luxurious a hope. She WAS curious why her bio parents suddenly came looking for her a few months ago. After knowing that Evelyn had been an orphan since she was ten, they took her back. Now she lost even the tiny shred of curiosity. Whatever the reason was, it wasn't because they loved her.She was still an orphan, through and through.Tired and melancholy, Evelyn sat down by the curb, staring at the pen in her hand. The inky fingerprints of Raymond were vivid, laughing in Evelyn's face. They were the evidence that signed her death warrant -- the evidence that her mother wanted her dead.
"I'm really sorry, Alpha," Standing straight under duress, Theo lowered his head in Raymond's office. With a teasing smirk, Raymond played a pen silently between his fingers leisurely, his legs propped on the table. But knowing Raymond well, Theo knew a furiuos wrath was waiting for him."Alpha?" After a few minutes of long, silent torment, Theo couldn't handle the pressure and opened his mouth again. He was expecting Raymond to be furious before he came in, after all, he failed to find the crucial evidence -- the pen, to confirm Evelyn's crime, and on top of that, he failed to catch Evelyn, too.But Raymond's silent smile scared him much more than his wrath.Theo had never seen Raymond like that, and he was seriously considering the possibility that Raymond lost it because he was too mad."So, she took the pen," Raymond finally opened his mouth, still twisting the pen playfully, "You know her name, you know her address, so what's stopping you from getting it?""Evelyn Stone, yes," Th
Evelyn glanced back at Victoria, and Raymond's eyes followed her movements. "I see you have made your name everywhere, apparently." Raymond cocked an eyebrow with detest in his eyes. His fingers left red marks on Evelyn's wrist as she struggled in vain."I thought you were smarter than to take the words of people like Victoria Foster," Evelyn shook her head with disappointment.Raymond frowned at her calm tone. His people had been searching for her for the past couple of days, but she didn't look like someone in hiding who just got caught by a fearful enemy. She wasn't in hiding. Evelyn had noticed some unfriendly attention after she left the Whites, but has been dealing with ill intentions all her life, she was good at protecting herself. She just didn't know they were Raymond's men."And I thought you were smarter than to show yourself in front of me ever again," Voice cold as ice, Raymond sneered back before he nodded lightly at Victoria, "it looks like you are not very good at h
"Show me your backpack!" Victoria demanded. "No!" Mathilda felt a lot more relaxed after Raymond left, "This is not the private high, and you are not the queen bee anymore!" Mathilda could easily get the throne of queen bee if she wants... and she probably would have, being the little princess of The Millennial and all, if not for Raymond. Having a famous big brother wasn't easy. Raymond was six years older than Mathilda, and after he passed the stage of hating a little tail chasing him around all the time, he was already the alpha-to-be that was surrounded by everyone. Though he started spoiling her around that time, Mathilda felt this tremendous pressure from the title of Raymond's sister, and that was when she started hiding that identity from everyone. "Try me!" Victoria snorted viciously, lowering her voice so only Mathilda could hear, "Isn't it enough that you got MY place at Yale, and now you just throw it away and followed me here again?! Quit NYU and I'll let you go." Mat
Victoria and her girlfriend waited for the policeman with cocky smirks and gloating chirpings, giving Evelyn a headache. Trying to escape from the noisy mean girls, Evelyn scooched over to Mathilda's side. "So, you are close to Raymond Reid?" Evelyn whispered with a voice low enough only for the two of them, but she didn't know there were actually many more ears to it on the other sides of the earbuds. "I'm not talking to you!" Mathilda hissed angrily, turning away. "I hear that he sleeps with a new girl every day," Evelyn teased Mathilda with an annoying smirk, "is that why you hate me so much? Because I'm the new you?" "Eww! Gross!" Mathilda jumped up in the air, "It's not like that!" "Ohhhh..." Evelyn laughed at the simple girl, with a drawling naughty tone, "then what IS it like?" Mathilda: "..." Raymond: "..." This is exactly why he can't trust Mathilda to step out of his protection! "He has a little sister, the same age as me," Evelyn suddenly fixed her eyes on Mathilda,
"What?" Mathilda blinked in utter confusion."What?!" Victoria shot Evelyn a death stare."I did! I saw your friend Vicky putting your necklace into her own backpack," Calm as ever, Evelyn rose her camera, "right after I took that picture.""You are totally just making this up now!" Victoria shrilled, her face red as liver, "You didn't say anything before this!""I didn't think anyone would believe me, but now it would help because the officers are here." Using Vicky's exact excuse, Evelyn shrugged with the most innocent look, and a surprised laugh escaped Mathilda. Raymond curved his lips, he could see Evelyn's harmless yet lethal puppy dog eyes in his mind-- She used them when she tricked him! Slow as Victoria was, she now realized Evelyn was only playing her."The necklace is NOT on Vicky!" Victoria blurted, stopping herself right before admitting they planted it on Mathilda, "You are lying! You are the lying bitch you always were back in high school!""You knew each other?" Offi
Raymond has been working overnight for days.[Eve, why was the big bad wolf working late again last night? I miss him!] Willa nudges Evelyn in boredom, demanding. Like Evelyn missing Raymond, Willia misses Sysiphus and maybe more. The spell's breaking restored the memory of Scarlett, James and Raymond, and Evelyn suddenly got all her family and friends back with no life-threatening risk hanging over her head. But that isn't the case for Willa. She is clean like a newborn baby and the only one she knows now is Sysiphus. Not to mention, Sysiphus adores Willa like no one else. Willa would only talk to him and Evelyn, not even Raymond.Things were so great for a month or two after Sysiphus marked Evelyn, but then he suddenly got busy, and so did everyone else. Though they see each other at breakfast, that had been their only chance to see each other in a whole day.[I'm sure we can see him tonight, it's Friday after all,] Evelyn rubs her forehead, getting a headache from the baby that had
Raymond came early. He didn't dare take more people against Killian's request, but he sent men to monitor all the mages in the city when he came to the warehouse hours early and lurked around. When it was reported to him that several important members of the coven disappeared, he knew something was wrong. So he woke up Sysiphus and came close to the house, only in time to hear Killian's words.Killian: "I can explain..."But Sysiphus wasn't in the mood to hear.[You can't go in rage right now!] Raymond was watching Sysiphus carefully in his mind, ready to take control at any moment, [I told you she would be in a bad condition, and you--][I have learned my lesson, Raymond, I won't lose it. I went into deep sleep because I was worried about the witch's mate bond spell, but not now when I see my mate with my own eyes.] Sysiphus answered calmly, his eyes landing gently on the white wolf floating in the air.The shade of cocky that had always been in his voice was gone, replaced by an earn
Killian persuaded Ava to use the same warehouse where she peeled off Mathilda's wolf.He saw real fear in Ava's eyes and he knew to Ava, the moon goddess truly existed and that Ava really believed she wouldn't be protected in that warehouse by her goddess. But why stains two places on the earth when she obviously enjoyed peeling off wolves, right? She might do more in the future. This logic persuaded Ava.Right now there they were. Ava and Killian, standing in the dusty, empty, abandoned warehouse, with Evelyn between them in a magic bubble, covered in burnt scars, barely alive. There was only one beam of moonlight throw the window, and Killian put Evelyn right under it.Ava kept her distance -- she had developed a moonlight-phobia since Mathilda. Killian glanced at his watch before he bowed to Ava: "Would you want me to do the honor?"Ava shook her head. It was so scary last time, and she couldn't even imagine how she pulled that off all on her own. But this time she felt a frantic
For four days straight Evelyn was kept in a magic bubble, naked.Fire would burn her skin crispy before ice froze her limbs. Then again, and again. Until she was at the edge of death, and that was when the mage guarding her would heal her wounds to prevent her death. And then a new cycle of fire and ice.Every day Ava would come visit Evelyn with only one question: where is your totem?Ava saw Evelyn's power. It was a much more pure and strong magic than anything Ava had ever seen. Maybe Killian's was stronger, but his power wasn't as pure.Ava wanted Evelyn's power. She had been stealing from Evelyn all her life -- she stole Evelyn's mother, father, identity...Everything! Why not this one more thing? Sara stole Scarlett's power successfully! But Evelyn wouldn't budge. Even at the edge of death she never begged. There were a few times when Evelyn tried to take her own life, and Ava had to add more men on guard just so they wouldn't kill Evelyn by accident.Evelyn really wanted death.
Midnight, a warehouse.Killian stood in the darkest corner of the warehouse where Mathilda's wolf was peeled off her, waiting.Raymond slipped a piece of paper into his collar when Raymond grabbed his collar before punching him in the face. He only realized that when Raymond patted over it. On the note were these words--[Midnight, THE warehouse]Even now Killian was still shocked at how far Raymond really could see.Raymond saw through Ava's whole plan when he didn't even have magic! He tricked everyone when he accused Ava of the crimes Evelyn was supposed to have done, so they all thought Raymond was only there to clear Evelyn's name when--What Raymond wanted was to meet Killian without anyone's attention! The depth of Raymond's plan made Killian's blood run cold. Once again he felt fear for what an awful enemy Raymond would be.No doors moved, nor any windows. But suddenly Raymond walked out from a shadow into the center of the room. His head held up high and he was looking at the
Ava never loved Raymond, but it didn't mean that she didn't want to conquer him. The man who every girl in the city admired, how could Ava not want him?! But all he ever gave her was insult and humiliation! Finally she got power and she even stole Evelyn from him, but this man just wouldn't submit in front of her! How dare he?!"You kill me now without me accepting your rejection, then you can never have another mate in your life," Raymond threatened with a serious tone, but instead of looking worried, Ava lay back with a cocky smile.Raymond curved his lips."What are you laughing at?!" Ava's face twisted -- the annoying Alpha! She hated his arrogant confidence!"I'm laughing at how simple you are. It's so easy to read you," Raymond shook his head slowly, taunting Ava with a smirk, "I just threatened you with a life of no mate, yet you don't look afraid at all. You should at least act, because now I know--"Ava held her breath without realizing it because she was nervous that Raymon
Raymond finally woke up on the fifth day after Sysiphus went in rage.Mathilda dropped the glass in her hand when she noticed his finger twitching: "Raymond? Raymond! Oh my God! Someone! He's awake!!!"James came first, followed by Emma and Scarlett. Theo was called to the Alpha house later that day, but Mathilda didn't let him in until Raymond's mind cleared up late in the afternoon.Raymond wasn't in a good shape though--Sysiphus was still in rage, trapped in deep sleep. Sysiphus was hurt too badly and couldn't wake up, but somehow he managed to give control before he went into deep sleep to heal. Or else Raymond couldn't have woken up yet."Where is Evelyn?" Raymond asked James, his tone calm with a shade of desperation. He knew a lot of horrible things would have been happening to Evelyn while he was trapped, but he had to face it.Sysiphus took the most hit, yes, but Raymond was the one suffering the most. He saw through the situation earlier than anyone, and yet he was trapped
Suffered through so much: getting a rejection, refusing a rejection, and then watching his beloved little sister suffering the devastating scar, but none of them hurt Sysiphus more than Evelyn's few simple words.Evelyn didn't expect that in the end, it was her own words that pushed Sysiphus into rage!Bursting into a painful growl, Sysiphus lost it and shifted under rage. He charged in Evelyn's direction and instantly everyone reacted. The mages shot all colors of beams at him while his own wolves followed him and tried to stop their Alpha -- their most powerful warrior in rage.Of course they failed.Werewolves flew out from Sysiphus's hits like leaves in the autumn winds, and the beams shot by the mages didn't seem to even get Sysiphus's attention. With a loud growl, James shifted the same time Sysiphus did and jumped in front of Evelyn and finally he stopped Sysiphus inches before Sysiphus could reach Evelyn.[Leave! He can't think!] James mindlinked Evelyn, [He could hurt anyone
Evelyn froze where she was before anger burst into flames in her chest."You did what?!" Evelyn hissed under her breath, not sure if she heard Ava right. Her voice and her body shook under anger, too. She knew Ava was evil, but she never thought Ava would commit the worst crime there is!Peeling off the wolf spirit from a werewolf! It's like castrating a soldier captured in a war, like raping an underage girl in front of her family. You don't do that, not even in a war!How dare she?!Tears of pain burned Evelyn's eyes, and for the first time in her life she felt the urge to kill. She wanted Ava dead! She wanted to see regret and horror in those vicious laughing eyes and she wanted to inflict pain!Ridiculous that Ava did all this just to reveal that she had magic, but if that was what Ava wanted, then fine! Evelyn raised bother her palms and walked up to face Ava, like the death goddess with the power of life and death in her hands!Ava curved her lips, but she avoided Evelyn -- she
