117 Dealing With Officers

I was lying on the couch, trying to rest, when I was startled by a knock that echoed through the quiet room in the early hours of the morning.

It took me a moment to gather myself, my mind still foggy from sleep. I glanced at my wristwatch, its hands glowing faintly in the dim light. It was five in the morning.

Another knock came, a little louder this time. My heart began to race, and my stomach tightened with unease. Who could be here at this hour?

I hadn’t yet armed myself, still waiting for our contact to deliver the weapons and ammunition we’d need to protect ourselves in the dangerous terrain of Kavistan. Without a gun, without any real sense of security, I felt exposed, vulnerable. But there was no choice – I had to face whoever was on the other side of the door.

With a deep breath, I braced myself and walked to the door, each step heavy with the weight of uncertainty. I wasn’t prepared for what I saw when I opened it. Standing there, calm and composed, was Colonel Malik.
