The Scholarship

Valeria woke up with a slight pain in her lower abdomen. She guessed it might have been the result of yesterday's work. She'd actually been assisting her mum.

"I ate in the kitchen, you can have it all, I'll just watch you while you eat." Rita said and she smile.

Few minutes later...

Valeria was already done eating. She wanted to clear the table but Rita stopped her.

"Mum.." She protested.

"I'll do it myself. You should get some rest, Valeria. I know you're tired," Rita said.

"Thanks mum." She said, even if she didn't like the fact that her mum was the one clearing the table.

Rita cleared the table, and she took the plates to the kitchen. Valeria trailed behind her.

"I asked you to rest, right?" Rita said and Valeriao smiled.

"I'm fine mum."

"How about the scholarship examination you applied for?" Rita asked, and Valeria scratched the back of her hair.

"Umm, the results came out yesterday, but I haven't checked for mine though." She said.

"What!!" Rita turned to face her.

"Are you listening to yourself? Seriously? You had sleepless nights just because of that exam and now you suddenly want to give up?" Rita barked.

"I'm scared mum, because thousands of people wrote the exam, and the school is picking just five lucky winners. Do you think I'll pass?" She said and Rita sighed.

"Learn to believe in yourself sweety, we'll pull through." Rita encouraged her.

"I'll go check it out now, I'll be happy no matter the results, as long as I have my pretty mum beside me." She said and Rita laughed.

"You never seize to amaze me Valeria." She smiled.

Valeria rushed to the living room, she took her laptop which was on the table, she immediately turned it on.

She logged into the site where she'd applied for the scholarship.

She heaved and she continued. Deep down she was really scared.

She saw some people's profiles and "failed" was boldly written on their names.

She clicked to the next page and her eyes widened.

VALERIE STARTAM was boldly written, with passed on it.

To top it all, she's first on the list.

"First thing tomorrow morning, I'll take you to Prestige High so we can complete the necessary processes required, so you can be a member of the school, as soon as possible," Rita stated, and Valeria nodded.
