Big blue eyes twinkling with tears looked up at him. They were the most beautiful and vulnerable eyes he’d ever seen. Just by looking into them, they revealed the feeling of the person. Just like when she collided with him and he saw a cloud of shock and fear in them. They were replaced then by a mixture of terror and horror when he has killed these rivalry gangsters. Now, the girl laid unconscious on his bed and she seemed so vulnerable and innocent that he felt a feeling of protectiveness rising inside him and this unfamiliar feeling completely disturbed him.
Devlin glanced at her again. She was a very beautiful young woman probably in her early twenties or maybe even eighteen or close. She had a pale, milky innocence, thin and somewhat frail looking body, yet possessing a steely attraction. Her hair was braided with very few bangs covering her forehead. Her eyelashes were long and it was difficult to say whether they were real or fake. However her face was bare of any trace of makeup yet her skin was still glowing! She had a small, straight nose followed by thin, naturally pink lips. Her neck was long and elegant. Her tiny body was fully covered with a red blouse and dark trousers which were slightly torn, and her feet were clad in white sneakers. There was so sight of jewelry, neither a watch nor a ring. She was too simple to be real. All her existence was leaking innocence and beauty. She looked so pretty and vulnerable. Was it because it was so long since he had been in the company of a woman or maybe he had been in the world of harshness for too long?Without much desire, Devlin at last dragged his eyes away and concentrated on Jordan, his close friend who was restlessly pacing the room. The latter stopped and asked,''Seriously, how can you be so careless?! For heaven's sake, I’m asking you again for the tenth time why did you bring this girl here?'' He croaked hoarsely, tension filled his voice. Devlin shrugged and replied coolly,''And I'm telling you for the tenth time, I didn't have any choice. Did I? She was lost and didn't know where her house is. Also, she fainted on me - and I felt quite guilty about that. Just look at her, do you think I could leave her there while she was still unconscious?'' He gestured towards the sleepy lady, beside them. Jordan glanced at her and his expression softened.''When she wakes up, what do you intend to do about her?'' Facing his friend, Jordan demanded suspiciously.''What do you mean?'' Devlin frowned.''You know perfectly what I mean. This girl can be a danger to you, Devlin. She now knows too much about you. She has even seen your face when you know damn well that your identity is a mystery. Worst, she has now witnessed all your murders and she could definitely report you to the police. Crazily, now you have even brought her to your place, something unknown to everyone except me!'' Jordan looked at him intensely and there was a deep frown on Devlin’s forehead. He was seriously right. He was so hypnotized by the nature of this woman that he unconsciously forgot his nature! God, where the hell he got himself stuck in! Devlin cursed in his head. He grabbed a handful of his hair and shut his eyes. Thoughts were scattering here and there in his mind as he thought deeply. Most probably, today he had done the most stupidest mistake in his life. And definitely a very risky one! He had to think the most possible and rapid solution, even if it will cause him a lot of nuisances. “what are you thinking?'' Jordan demanded to know after a few tensed minutes. Already made up his mind, Devlin blew a breath and met his friend’s gaze.''I don't have any choice. I will keep her here until I'm done with the criminals,'' his reply came out softly but firmly. He knew it was a cruel decision but he had no other choice. Things would get haywire if he got involved with the police so he better kept her here until he decided otherwise. Jordan looked at him speechlessly, didn't dare say any word as he knew too well, when his friend made up his mind, no one could ever challenged that.''You know that for eight years I have been planning this and now that I am near my goal, this stranger will not stand in my way!'' Devlin snapped angrily, causing the lady to stir on the bed. He turned to Jordan and ordered, more quietly this time, ''Remove all means of communication from the phone we found in her pocket and put a phone tracker in it. If ever she escapes, when and where she goes, it's your responsibility to inform me.'' Jordan nodded, took the phone which was on the table then left the room, leaving his friend alone to face the woman who was slowly drifting out of sleep and who was about to get the shock of her life, knowing that she was trapped here with a gangster.Slowly opening her eyes, Sarah noticed a different ceiling. Usually, her room in Maria's house was a purple one but how come this one was white? Where was she? Then, it struck her like a lightning. All the memories came back one after the other, the library, the abandoned house, the monster who had cruelly murdered three people! With a gulp, she closed her eyes again, hoping the nightmare would go away. But it never did. When Sarah opened her eyes again, she still saw the same ceiling. Sideway, she saw a movement and abruptly sat up on the bed. Immediately she winced when she knocked against these dangerous grey eyes looking at her, intensely, just like the ones in the nightmare. Her heart began to race as she stared at the man, sitting casually on the armchair with his arms crossed over his chest, unconsciously highlighting her beasty muscles. And what a man he was! Her experience was limited when it came to men but it didn't take a scientist to know this creature was sexy as hell. Compared to the monster she had met in the terrible dream, this one was now dressed in a white evening shirt unbuttoned enough to show his tanned chest, and a pair of dark slacks. His dusty hair was now clean, carefully combed and pushed back. His eyes as she first saw were icy grey and soul piercing! His nose was straight and his lips were thin, slightly curved in a smirk. Sarah wanted to take more time to admire this beautiful creature but her heart was urging her otherwise. She swallowed the lump in her throat when he finally broke the silence.''Well? Finally you are up,” he snapped impatiently.Sarah couldn’t help but glanced through her lashes at the stranger. What does he mean? Was he watching her while she was sleeping? For how long was she here? What was she doing here? Did he kidnap her? Did he want to ransom her? Did he want to kill her?! The thoughts ran like mice in Sarah’s brain, while she was slowly and unconsciously backing away on the bed, creating a long distance between the man and herself, this man whose intense and disturbing gaze was still on her, not once blinking!''Careful Miss, one last move and you will find yourself on the floor,” he warned, his gaze still fixed on Sarah. It was then that the latter realised that she has already reached the other side of the bed. Grinding her teeth, she slapped herself mentally. Don't be a coward Sarah! Fire him all the questions! Taking a deep breath, she tried to calm herself.''What- am I doing here? Where am I? Why am I here?” She asked without stopping even though she noticed the mockery and amusement in this devil’s eyes!''For now, you are my guest. You are in my house and you are here, because we don’t know yet where you live, Am I right?''With a dry throat, she nodded and explained shakily, “ye-yes I don’t know the address of the house because I don’t live here. I’m a tourist here.”Devlin didn’t blink but instead his eyes narrowed icily. She had a different accent, he realised. But he had no proof whether this girl was speaking the truth or not. But no matter what, she was not going to leave this house anytime soon.''Will-will you ki-kill me?'' Sarah couldn't stop herself from asking when the silence has settled again.''No,” he replied uncommunicatively. The arrogant swine was enjoying this!Suddenly, he stood to his full length making Sarah gasped. He was definitely the tallest man she’d ever seen. He had to be six feet or more! Suddenly she felt so small and fragile in front of the man and then,''You will stay here until I decide when to let you go,'' he put it bluntly, a dangerous glitter in his eyes.A simple phrase rapped out yet an explosion to all her hope and peaceful mind.Numbed with shock, Sarah stared at him with open mouth. She just couldn't believe what she just heard. Her heart started to accelerate and her blood ran cold. She was being kept here against her will by this arrogant beast? Unlike her usual introverted and shy self, a strange anger and bravery spread in her veins and very quickly she spat her thoughts out,''So, in other words you kidnapped me?! What do you want from me?!'' Her eyes brimmed lightly.''Kidnapping is not the word I would use, miss...?'' Rising one eyebrow, demanding her name. When Sarah kept her mouth shut, the rude stranger barked,''Well, miss 'whatever your name is', I am keeping you here for your own safety. Today, there is a high probability that one criminal saw you with me in this old house and definitely they will come seeking information from you and may even harm or kill you in the process! So, I am doing you a favor, keeping you safer here!'' He opened the door, slammed it harshly. Safer here? Sarah screa
If that day was a long day, then the next two days felt like two weeks. They were dragging seconds by seconds. However Sarah was holding it pretty bravely. It looked absurd to herself how lightly and well she was coping with this reality. Or maybe, the reality hadn’t hit her yet? For Sarah, all these dramatic events in her life felt nothing but surreal. Maybe she had fallen asleep and was sucked in a very long nightmare. Or perhaps she had been summoned in a novel and she had turned into one of the characters. But there was no way that this was happening for real in her life. More bewildering was her own behaviour. Sarah was this kind of girl who would not even dare to raise her eyebrows to strangers, let alone to men! She had always been warned by her father to stay away from them and she had never really been in the company of any men except for her classmates. Yet, here strangely, she had challenged and even exploded at this man who was supposed to be her kidnapper, this monster
Hard, murderous grey eyes bored into her petrified blue ones. Sarah, squatted down on the road in the downpour rain with the angel of death standing arrogantly and dangerously beside her. Her heart was rattling against her chest bones like a flock of birds in a cage and a pulse throbbed at the base of her throat. Numbed with shock and terror, Sarah couldn’t react until she was ruthlessly pulled up from the ground and was dragged towards the car. Returning to reality abruptly, she suddenly started to struggle wildly but the grip on her arm was so hard as steel that she was sure tomorrow it would leave a bruise, that is if she was still alive. Remembering all her efforts and perseverance, Sarah decided to fight back and not give up, although her heart begged her otherwise.''Leave me, you bastard!'' She cried in a high, breathless voice which she hardly recognised as her own. But she didn't dare protest again, as she was silenced by the grey of his eyes which were just as steely as hi
''What?!” Jordan blinked. “You are worried about that girl?! She almost escaped, Devlin! She nearly reported you to the police! And all you are worrying about is the security of that girl?!''Instantly Devlin turned his face and glared at him. Oh God, Jordan screamed mentally, the lion was indeed very angry. Throwing up his hands in surrender, he apologised quickly,''Sorry, sorry. I shouldn't have said that. I just- it just slipped,'' and put his hands over his mouth, trying to ease the tension in the room. However, Devlin sat upright, the frown gone, replaced by a determination in his eyes.''Prepare hiding spot number three. Tomorrow I will take her there. It’s closer to the place where I’ve met her and I’m pretty sure there, we can find some information about her and her family.''And the game instantly changed. Sarah swallowed down the lump in her throat for the third time. She could feel how sweaty her palms were as she tightened them. Her heart was not beating fast, yet it sk
Deep in Sarah’s heart, there was an unknown nervousness growing. She didn’t know what was happening to her. It was an emotion mixed with fear and excitement. Something was surely changing inside of her. Trying to forget this feeling, she decided to speak her mind.''Are you not afraid to live in this dangerous world of yours?'' She asked in a serious tone, although she didn't know where this came from. Being in his company for a few days, living his lifestyle, Sarah felt that this person must have felt the loneliness she’d been feeling back home. But worst, his life was coated with danger. He didn’t look like someone whose pleasure is killing but rather he kills because he needs to live. Surprisingly this time Devlin didn't tensed, instead he replied in the same tone as hers,''People fear death. But I face death everyday as an uninvited guest.''Sarah gasped. ''God, this is madness!''''This is not insanity. It is manliness,” conviction and determination could be heard in his vo
With the warm afternoon sunrays on her skin, the cool breeze playing softly with her hair, a complete peace and freedom burst into Sarah’s heart. After running for half an hour, they now found themselves on a road of which both sides were surrounded with corn fields. The plants were green and lively just like her soul. For twenty years, Sarah had been under her patriarchal father’s command. She lived the life he chose for her and never rebelled although she always did inside her heart. She lived a very strict and unhappy childhood, always carrying a suffering from her parent’s suffocating marriage. When his father expressed his discontentment for her advanced education, she didn’t rebel. Again, when he disapproved of her getting a job, she hadn’t said anything. There was a series of things that she had been prohibited to do. Sarah was basically a mechanism of her father’s patriarchal beliefs. Since childhood she was fabricated this way. She was given an order and she lived by it, wit
''I can't continue,” Sarah finally gave up and wearily grumbled, ‘‘I am too tired and cold.”Devlin turned and looked at her. Around them, the atmosphere was thrilling, big and scary bushes surrounded them. They could hear the bugs and crickets disturbing the other creatures. At this very moment, a bat on the branch over Sarah’s head flew away and ruffled the leaves in the process. She flinched and a shiver instantly ran down her spine. Devlin whose grey glittering eyes were on her commented softly,''We can't stop here. We can't sleep here. There are many dangerous creatures. We should keep go…'' However Sarah cut him off through tight teeth, ‘'There can't be a more dangerous monster than you, here in this darkness!'' She snapped angrily as Devlin wasn’t being reasonable and understanding at all! In this dark night, his cold grey eyes left her colder but the disturbing feeling was back and her heart was doing crazy acrobats in her chest. She tried desperately not to shiver but fai
Sarah’s smile gradually froze. A fluttering emotion instantly invaded her body. He actually smiled! It was the first time she’d seen his teeth! They were as white as milk and so perfectly aligned. When he smiled, his eyes looked tinier, hiding the steely grey, turning them into a light transparent ones. How gorgeous! She goggled in amazement. However, a knock at the door unfroze her back to reality. Sarah alarmingly sat upright on the bed while Devlin went to open the door, his face once again rigid and the mask was back.''Here,” the old woman came forward in the room, holding a tray of plates and cups in one hand and in the other one, there was a pile of clothing. She smiled at Sarah which she shyly returned it.Devlin grimaced at her expression before he closed the door again. The woman put the trays on the table and came to sit beside Sarah on the bed, her eyes filled with concern.''Are you alright, my child?'' Her eyes reflected her words.''Yes, thank you. I-I-rest a little bi
Three years later. The first sign of dawn appeared, the calmness and loneliness around the house near the mountain started to fade away as the few birds started to chirp cheerfully. In an upstairs room, the light was still on, the light which her mum had switched on last night. Silently, the door opened and her mother appeared, a sad smile on her lips. She breathed out a distress then switched off the light to close the door behind her, with a sigh again. She didn't go and disturb her daughter as it was now a usual habit to see her like this every morning, not on her bed but by her table with the diary opened in front of her.For the past three years, no one knew what happened to her during that holiday. She kept on telling them that she couldn't remember, but deep inside, her mother knew that something hurtful had occurred and that each and every night, her daughter's blood turned into ink, writing out the words she couldn't speak aloud. In the room, a broken woman has fallen asleep
searched her face worriedly.''Are you okay?" She frowned.‘You must know that it was never meant for us to meet each other. We just met by pure coincidence. Or maybe our meeting was just a mistake- done by fate.’Devlin's words kept on echoing louder and louder in her mind. It was unbearable. Sarah squirmed away from Maria’s arms and covered her ears with shaky hands. She was in the middle of a nightmare. She covered her ears more tightly, hoping his voice would go away but in vain. It was getting louder and harsher.‘My wish is that you go back to your life and live it as if you never met me! Forget every single day you spent with me. Forget every memory we shared-forget-just forget everything about me.’Sarah screamed fearfully. Tears rolling down her face to dip on her lap. The pain was too deep and too much. She couldn’t bear the burden of it! Why had fate brought me this treasure only to rip it away from me so soon- too soon! She asked in her mind. Why ? Why?! Now her own voic
Jordan let out a heavy sigh this time. He wanted to help Devlin but a more powerful strength was ruling over the events; that is fate. “Then at least, go and visit, one last time.”Devlin shook his head. He lowered his stormy eyes.''Dev, she's still unconscious. Go and see her one last time. Tell her everything that is on your heart. You won’t meet again anyway. So, better to lighten your feelings now than to miss this opportunity forever.” As Jordan’s words hit him, Devlin met his gaze. Jordan gave him a reassuring smile. Only then, he nodded. His heart skipped a beat then started to gallop. His legs felt suddenly weak and his jaw tightened to an extent that it made a sound. His fingers hardened in a tight fists, his rough fingers were piercing his palm, almost bleeding it. His gaze, his gaze was soft but sorrowful. Devlin gulped before he muttered sadly,''Sarah...”On the small bed in front of him, laid a weak and unconscious lady. The lady who met him by coincidence, the lady
“You think you are a genius, huh?! You crept over my skin and pretended to the same as my son, you think I would think twice before killing you! But you are wrong, wrong!” His rage mirroring Devlin’s. They were both breathing sharply, the murderous eyes glued on each other. Cesare sent another punch on his nose and bled it. Devlin’s fury was closed to explosion! He returned the punch back on Cesare’s jaw. The latter didn’t mind the pain as he launched once again on Devlin. He locked his forearm around his neck and squeezed. Devlin clenched his teeth as he started to gasp for air. Cesare dragged him from behind, their limbs struggling against each other. It was like a bull fight! Please, please, make him confess quickly! I don’t have much time! Devlin prayed with his throat tightened and his breath sharpening. Devlin was not weak. In fact, he was better at combat than Cesare was. But he had to control his power! He knew in one blow he could kill Cesare but he could not risk this! Wit
His gaze instantly flickered to hers and they instantly darkened. For a second they stared into each other's eyes, and she heard her own heart beating, fast and loud, echoing in her ears like the sea in a shell. His eyes dark with anguish, hers bright with tears. Devlin is here! Sarah let out a sigh and slumped her shoulders. Within the blink of an eye, the five men raised their firearms towards him and Oscar knelt down, seized her tied wrists and lifted Sarah on her feet again. ''Now that there's no escape from here, why don't you remove this mask?'' Cesar asked as he approached Devlin with an air of arrogance and menace! Devlin lifted his hand without any hesitation, started to take off the scarf. Sarah’s heart stopped! What was he doing?! She shook her head. No! She shouted mentally. When Devlin removed it completely, Cesar stared at him in shock and after some tensed seconds he laughed out, an amused sound. A smile met his eyes.''Wow, my Lucky! You really took me off guard
Why was life always so complicated? So fraught with problems? Like walking on eggshells, you could hear them breaking at every step you took. If only it was easier to see ahead and know the consequences of what choices we made! Devlin moaned inward. Emotion and tension flooded through him as he thought of Sarah. Not sending her away, he admitted, was indeed his greed. He knew it was his greed but he had kept not wanting to hear the reasons why he should send her back. He kept making excuses of how it was okay not to send her. So, something bad really happened! As he broke all speed records, Devlin’s scared heartbeats were whispering only one word, Sarah. Please, don’t let anything happen to her, please. For the first time in his life, Devlin prayed vehemently. Sarah’s head ached. She could feel an unfamiliar bump on her forehead.Slowly she drifted out of her unconsciousness but opened her eyes abruptly when she remembered what had happened! At eight o'clock, she had left Devlin's h
''You're wrong! You're so wrong!” She cried impatiently, certain that she must be in the midst of a living nightmare.Devlin sighed and put an arm around her trembling shoulders.‘'Sarah, you know what kind of life I lived and what kind of man I am. You witness how dangerous- You must go back and resume your life in your world. I promise you, you will find someone to love...” Sarah shook his hand off her shoulder at once.''I-I can't go back to that life, not that I've found you, Devlin.” She cracked and finally sobbed, unable to prevent the hot, frustrated and frightened tears from trickling down her face. ''You don't, you don't understand...”''Of course, I do!''The cold, harsh tone of his voice hit her like a blow as Devlin roughly shook her shoulders. He swore under his breath.'' Can't you see that the time we spent together wasn't real?! It was, ” he swept his hands distractedly through his hair, ''it was an idyll- time out of mind. Surely you can see that it has little to do
“To-tomorrow? You knew my address?" Sarah could not fight it. The feeling of betrayal was back. She was only trying to comfort him! ''Yes, a very long-time ago.”''But why?”Devlin threw her a blank stare, silencing her on the spot. He means what he said! Sarah read it in his eyes. There was no way to change his mind. And...and how could she go away without confessing her love? Her heart in her hands, Sarah ran towards him to once again grab his arm.''Devlin! Don't do this- don't...” She begged breathlessly, her breathing sharpened. Snatching his arm again from her grip, Devlin continued to move away. However the following words escaped from her lipsand unwillingly, Sarah broke her own promise.''But Devlin! I love you!'' The walking man froze. And so did Sarah. She gulped. A thunder stricken Devlin turned to face her. His face was pale, his eyes widened in its saucers. A tensed silence fell. Devlin’s thoughts started to run, breaking speed record. And one by one, all the proo
Devlin instantly recognised this name. He was a very famous and merciless gangster of the time. He was a drug dealer, he often attacked, threatened big companies to be allowed to use the company name to import drugs in the country. Without any doubt it must have been the same case for his parents, Devlin concluded darkly. Even though he had committed several murders, still until this day nobody had been able to stop him as he never left proofs and evidence. From this day on Devlin’s life took a sharp turn. The smile in his eyes was replaced by a glitter of anger. From the eyes of the society he had suddenly disappeared. Everybody thought that he had gone abroad for further studies but only Jordan knew what he was up to. Jordan had urged him to do the otherwise but the Devlin he knew was lost forever. In front of him was a man with no heart, a man with only one purpose that is vengeance. Thus, Devlin had left his company in Jordan’s care and he had moved away for his vengeance. After
