Numbed with shock, Sarah stared at him with open mouth. She just couldn't believe what she just heard. Her heart started to accelerate and her blood ran cold.

She was being kept here against her will by this arrogant beast? Unlike her usual introverted and shy self, a strange anger and bravery spread in her veins and very quickly she spat her thoughts out,

''So, in other words you kidnapped me?! What do you want from me?!'' Her eyes brimmed lightly.

''Kidnapping is not the word I would use, miss...?'' Rising one eyebrow, demanding her name.

When Sarah kept her mouth shut, the rude stranger barked,

''Well, miss 'whatever your name is', I am keeping you here for your own safety. Today, there is a high probability that one criminal saw you with me in this old house and definitely they will come seeking information from you and may even harm or kill you in the process! So, I am doing you a favor, keeping you safer here!'' He opened the door, slammed it harshly.

Safer here? Sarah screamed mentally but some how after few minutes of thinking, she realised he might be right. However, she swore she would find a way to get away from this beast.

After ages, she finally stood up and looked around her.

The bedroom was obviously his. There was a small table, a chair, a huge bed beside which there was another adjoining door. Sarah glanced at the windows and noticed they were safely secured, there was no way she could escape from there. Outside, darkness now ruled over and for the first time she actually thought about her parents. It was already night and undoubtedly they were restless at home, when they found out she was missing. With this thought, a complete loneliness and sense of misery crept over her heart. Tears of helplessness and dismay started to appear in her eyes but the next minute, she froze.

Behind her, she heard a noise, turning back, she saw the demon again, with some clothing in his hands. Without any notice, he came further in the room, throwing the clothes on the bed.

''If you want to change, you can change into these. There is a bathroom in the adjoining room, you can use it if you want. And if you are hungry, you must come downstairs, I am having dinner in the kitchen,'' he said coldly and when he reached the door, he added, ''and if you are thinking about escaping, then don't. If you value your life, that is!'' He warned bitterly.

''Bastard!'' Sarah muttered, but nevertheless he heard it.

He glanced back at her, a plain mockery in his eyes, ''and certainly, if I would kidnap someone, I would definitely never kidnapped someone as skinny as you,'' he quietly closed the door behind him.

It was meant to insult and it did! Sarah was boiling with a fierce rage and fury! Her whole body was vibrating with an unusual feeling. She wanted to cry, she wanted to scream and pull her hair out but, but it seemed like her whole body has given up on her.

Sarah took a look at the clothes on the bed and blew a sigh. There were a big shirt which obviously was his and a woolen trouser. No way she would wear his clothes, she wriggled her nose. She spent sometime, sitting on the bed and thinking but there was no choice. She was sticky with sweats and she was famished. If she wanted to escape from here then she had to survive first. So, after ages, she took a quick shower, avoiding to glance at his thing there, quickly got dressed and got out to feed herself.

Sarah was mesmerised when she stepped out of the room. The house was so huge, luxurious but simple. She quickly made her way down and fortunately, found the kitchen easily. In the middle of a big dinning table, the devil himself was seated. From afar he looked so lonely and surprisingly she felt sorry for him, but the next moment, Sarah cursed him mentally when she remembered that her phone had disappeared.

''Where is my phone?!'' She asked with authority.

Devlin raised his head and stopped eating. Quickly, Sarah averted his gaze and looked down. She knew that his eyes were mocking her as she looked ridiculous in his big shirt. She felt like drowning in them but didn't have any choice and it was all because of him! Reminded of the reality, Sarah clenched her fists by her sides. Some seconds later, he replied, gesturing to the kitchen counter on his left, ''It's charging.''

''Thank you,'' she muttered bitterly and took the phone.

However as soon as she took a look at the screen, she exploded in fireworks,

''Where the hell is my sim card? Who the hell do you think you are to do whatever you want?!'' She almost stamped her foot with rage.

But when she saw his mouth tightened grimly, all her rage crept into a hole like a frightened puppy.

''I am the one in whose hands your life lies!'' Standing, he barked, his gaze cold on her burning face. Sarah gulped as her heart skipped a beat. For the first time since she woke up, she felt so scared, she was so worried but she had been hiding it with a face of anger but now she was afraid that her charade would finally crumble on the floor with fear and start crying.

''Never forget this,'' he warned quietly, before strolling away.

Sarah was left alone in this huge kitchen and her appetite was gone. With the body of a snail, taking her phone in between trembling hands, with a heavy heart she returned to the room which from now onwards shall be her prison.

Sitting on the bed, arms tightened around her knees, her head bent, she thought sadly about her parents and Maria. They must be very frightened and worried there.

“This is crazy,” her silent mutter resonated in the room. And slowly, all the anger, fear and terror, she kept buried inside of her this evening, came out, rolling in the form of tears down her cheeks. In the darkness of the night, she wept in despair and desperation. The reality was too unreal and too hard to swallow. It was only last night that she was with her family, enjoying the company of baby David and laughing heartily and tonight she was the prisoner of a complete stranger.

Fate was playing a very, very cruel game with her, she realised.

If that day was a long day, then the next two days felt like two weeks. They were dragging seconds by seconds. However Sarah was holding it pretty bravely. It looked absurd to herself how lightly and well she was coping with this reality. Or maybe, the reality hadn’t hit her yet? For Sarah, all these dramatic events in her life felt nothing but surreal. Maybe she had fallen asleep and was sucked in a very long nightmare. Or perhaps she had been summoned in a novel and she had turned into one of the characters. But there was no way that this was happening for real in her life. More bewildering was her own behaviour. Sarah was this kind of girl who would not even dare to raise her eyebrows to strangers, let alone to men! She had always been warned by her father to stay away from them and she had never really been in the company of any men except for her classmates. Yet, here strangely, she had challenged and even exploded at this man who was supposed to be her kidnapper, this monster

''What?!” Jordan blinked. “You are worried about that girl?! She almost escaped, Devlin! She nearly reported you to the police! And all you are worrying about is the security of that girl?!''Instantly Devlin turned his face and glared at him. Oh God, Jordan screamed mentally, the lion was indeed very angry. Throwing up his hands in surrender, he apologised quickly,''Sorry, sorry. I shouldn't have said that. I just- it just slipped,'' and put his hands over his mouth, trying to ease the tension in the room. However, Devlin sat upright, the frown gone, replaced by a determination in his eyes.''Prepare hiding spot number three. Tomorrow I will take her there. It’s closer to the place where I’ve met her and I’m pretty sure there, we can find some information about her and her family.''And the game instantly changed. So, better to lighten your feelings now than to miss this opportunity forever.” As Jordan’s words hit him, Devlin met his gaze. Jordan gave him a reassuring smile. Only then, he nodded. Devlin instantly recognised this name. He was a very famous and merciless gangster of the time. He was a drug dealer, he often attacked, threatened big companies to be allowed to use the company name to import drugs in the country. Even though he had committed several murders, still until this day nobody had been able to stop him as he never left proofs and evidence. From this day on Devlin’s life took a sharp turn.
