Chapter 2 Selena's Request

Selenar's POV

This wasn't the first time Xander had behaved like this. On many nights, I could vaguely sense him waking up in the middle of the night and sitting beside me without saying a word. Every time I woke up and looked at him, I could see the intense hatred in his amber eyes.

"It's nothing," Xander said coldly, giving me a look before putting on his pajamas and stepping aside.

Like a child who had done something wrong, I seemed to notice Xander's abnormality. Immediately afterward, I propped myself up with my arms and prepared to get out of bed.

"Don't put on such a pathetic face. I don't need your concern," he snapped as I reached for a glass on the nightstand.

"Xander, I'm just..." I froze in place for a moment, holding my glass of water and feeling overwhelmed. At that moment, the straps of my silk nightgown slipped down, exposing a large expanse of my chest in the moonlight from the window.

Xander's gaze lingered briefly before he turned to look out the window.

I blushed scarlet and rushed to lift my straps with my free hand, forgetting I still held the glass.

Snap!

The cup hit the floor, and crystal shards scattered everywhere.

"Damn. You can't even manage a simple task," Xander whispered, glancing at me indifferently.

"I'm sorry..." I began to explain, but when I met Xander's icy eyes, I chose to remain silent and started cleaning up the shards on the ground.

Just then, Xander received a phone call. I looked up curiously.

"Xander, sorry to bother you so late. I just have something I need to trouble you with. Is it convenient for you right now?" A sweet voice came from the other end of the phone. It was Lisandra from the Silver Moon Pack.

Ever since Xander and I became mates, he had changed drastically.

The once gentle and warm-hearted person had become perverse and rough, and his eyes that once looked at me with love were now filled with hatred.

I didn't know what caused this change, but from that point on, Xander seemed to enjoy inflicting pain on me, and Lisandra's appearance was part of it.

After all, no woman could accept her mate being shared by someone else.

I subconsciously frowned at the sound of Lisandra's voice.

"What is it?" Xander replied calmly.

"There's someone who's been following me on my way back from outside, and just now I heard what seemed to be some commotion outside. I'm a little scared right now, and I was wondering if you could come over and keep me company."

Lisandra's voice sounded a little panicked, but I knew in my heart that it was just something she made up.

Hearing Lisandra's words, Xander fell into a brief silence.

I pursed my lips and looked at Xander, silently praying he wouldn't choose to leave me at this moment. But when I met Xander's cold eyes, I knew the answer.

"Okay, I'm on my way."

Any move that made me uncomfortable was exactly the kind of move that gave Xander pleasure.

Xander hung up and began to change. I subconsciously prepared to get up and talk him down, but I ignored the crystal shard I had just broken.

"Hiss!" The crystal shard lodged into my palm, and blood immediately flowed out. I cried out as I felt the pain.

Xander turned around quickly at the sound, and I saw a hint of concern in his eyes, which gave me hope.

"Can you not go?" I asked, biting my lip lightly and hesitating a little inside, but eventually mustering up the courage to look up at Xander.

"Do I need your permission to do anything now?" Xander quickly put away his concern, and his icy eyes fell back on my face, making me wonder if I had just been mistaken.

But for some reason, I still felt like Xander cared about me. There seemed to be a barrier between us for no apparent reason; all the beauty and warmth that had once been there was blocked away, and no matter how hard I tried, it never seemed to return.

"That's not true. I just think it's a little inappropriate for you, the Alpha of a pack, to be at another woman's home at this late hour." A pang of indifference ran through me at the thought.

After getting up from the ground, I clenched my teeth and gathered the courage to raise my head and stare at Xander. But when Xander saw me in this state, the corner of his mouth curled up in mockery.

"It seems that I was still too merciful to you, so much so that by now you forget who you are now." Xander stepped in front of me, then picked up my chin with his finger and shook his head gently.

"Don't forget that you come from a lowly pack. If I hadn't taken pity on you, you and your father's pack would have been annexed by the other packs long ago," Xander finished, ignoring my reaction.

He then turned around, ready to leave.

"So why did you choose me in the first place? Did you need me to live like a slave for you to be happy?" I questioned as I stood up, despite the blood still dripping from my wound.

"Yes, you guessed it right. The more upset you are, the happier I am." The corner of Xander's mouth lifted into a cruel smile as he pulled on his jacket.

"Xander, I don't understand what's happening between us. Where has the person you once were gone? If I've done anything wrong, tell me and I'll make it right," I said, looking at Xander's back, a sour warmth welling up inside me.

"Cut the useless crap. When I want to tell you, you'll realize where you went wrong. For now, just remember who you are. You're just a tool for my pleasure." Xander turned his head and stared at me coldly, no emotion in his eyes.

"Xander, you're not being fair. What gives you the right to treat me like this?" I looked at Xander with indignation, standing up and walking towards him.

"Have you said enough? I should go be with Lisandra now." Xander's impatience was clear as he glanced at me before heading towards the front door.

"You're not allowed to go!" I don't know where I found the courage, but I charged straight towards Xander.

"ROAR!"

Offended by my move, the wolf inside him let out an intimidating growl, causing me to freeze in place. The sudden stop made me lose my balance, and I fell hard to the ground, my palm landing on the shards of the water cup.

The wound that was just about to heal reopened, and blood flowed out immediately. Xander just watched quietly without any action.

"Don't play pitiful. Do what you need to do." After saying that, Xander left, closing the door heavily, leaving me alone and in pain in the empty room.
