Chapter 17 The Argument

Selena's POV

After our last confrontation in the basement, Xander and I fell into an uneasy silence. He didn't harass me as before or bring Lisandra around to flaunt their affection.

Sometimes, during chance encounters at the packhouse, Xander and I would pause, the air thick with unspoken tension. Whatever was happening between us, it was changing us in subtle ways.

"Via, do you think Xander will ever treat me the way he did before?" I asked softly.

"That's not necessarily true. It seems like you've reached a reconciliation, but in reality, it's only just begun."

Via gently licked her fur, then absentmindedly explained to me.

"I don't understand what you mean?"

I stood by the window in the room, my eyes subconsciously scanning the open space below for any sign of Xander.

"Maybe before you didn't understand Xander's motives, but now it's clear. It's because of your father that Xander is interested in this..."

"It's not because of my father! There's no way my father did that!"
