What’s your endgame, Dennis?

Freya

I hopped in the backseat while Victor closed the door and waved me goodbye. I kept staring in the side mirror, watching him stuck to the same spot, watching till the car was out of his sight.

“Do you know my place?” I finally looked away from the mirror.

“Yes ma’am.” The driver replied, while I then relaxed and enjoyed the ride.

It felt nice to be rightly pampered by a man who knows what I want without even having to say a word. He knew I wasn’t in the right mood to drive, and then insisted I get help instead. Dennis would never do that. He would have just nodded and watched me drive home tired. The only time he puts pressure is in bed. Once he is horny, he suddenly becomes a caring man.

“Urghhh…” I shrugged as we pulled into the front of the house.

The driver hopped down and got the door for me, making me smile.

“Thank you…”

“Anderson! It’s Anderson ma’am!” He chimed in.

“Thank you, Anderson. How will you get back to the house now? Why don’t you take the car, and I’ll send someone for it later in the day?” I let out.

“No ma’am, I’ll find my way.” He said politely and then turned to leave while I smiled and made my way to the house.

I was too engrossed in my thoughts and didn’t even realize Dennis was standing there at the entrance.

I gasped out of fear when I looked up and saw him, looking taller and fierce.

“Where are you coming from and who was that?” He fired angrily, but I didn’t say a word and was going to ignore him.

“Ohh you’re suddenly deaf and mute now, right? Who the hell was that, Freya? Why is a stranger dropping my fiancé off at my house by this time of the day?” I was really going to ignore him, but I just couldn’t resist the laughter that surged inside me when he claimed the house to be his.

“What’s funny? It wasn’t funny when you were accusing me of cheating, but now that I caught you, it’s suddenly funny?” He fired again.

“This isn’t your house, Dennis, it is my house. And it’s none of my business who drops me off. I’m not a child, so you don’t have to remind me what time it is or why I am coming home by this time. I can come to my house anytime I like!” I fired back and was going to walk away but the moment I tried to enter, he pushed me back.

“What the f*ck Dennis? How dare you put your hands on me?” I screamed at him.

“I didn’t put my hands on you, I merely pulled you back so we could finish our talk!” He screamed too.

“I have nothing to say to you, Dennis. I don’t owe you sh*t!” I was so pissed off, but I couldn’t walk off as he immediately stood in the way and blocked me from entering.

“Until you tell me who that was who dropped you off, you’re not stepping a foot inside this house. I was at your office this afternoon, and I was told you didn’t even come to work today and even if you came afterward, you would have left since and back home!”

“Where the hell did you go to?” I just couldn’t believe that it was the same man who I caught f*cking my best friend that was saying all this to me.

His shameless audacity was so irking that I felt like driving a punch into his face.

“Do you really think you have the right to demand accountability from you? You? Same you who has been cheating shamelessly on me and still denying it? You know what you are? A clown! Yes… that’s what you are!” I was so angry, and it showed in the way the ways flowed out of me… angrily.

“You know what? That right there is the reason why I waited for you here. I had no idea you were out frolicking with some f*cking stranger who wants nothing from you than to get in your pants! I just wanted to know where you were! I was worried when I didn’t see my f*cking fiancé! Do you even have an idea since when I have been standing here, waiting for you?”

“Meanwhile, you were there doing God knows what… you didn’t even stop there, you had the guts to bring him into our house! Our f*cking house, Freya! How dumb can you be?” The more he said, the more angry I was.

He wasn’t mad that I came home late, it wasn’t out of care or love either… Dennis couldn’t care less if anything happened to me. He was just bitter that I sent him into the guest room, and he couldn’t pass the opportunity to unleash his on me.

I could see the manipulation all over him, he was going to turn everything upside down if I didn’t do something. It was either I faced him or lost my control. I needed to change the narrative fast.

“Dennis, you don’t care about me. You’re just mad because you think I’m doing the same thing you’re doing… f*cking around like you!” He scoffed and then reached to touch me, but I slapped off his hand with my purse and he stood back.

“Get out of the way, Dennis. I’m tired, and I need to get some rest. I’m not in the mood to cater to your insecurity.” I let out.

“Since you’re so convinced that I’m cheating, why don’t you show your proof then cause you sure as hell didn’t walk in on me f*cking someone else?”

I scoffed when he said this. I couldn’t even say a word, I couldn’t find my voice either. I just went blank and was staring deep into his eyes.

It was so hard that the man I had loved so much could be hurting me like this. I always thought he was my Prince Charming, one who could never hurt me or lie to me. In my eyes, he could do no wrong, so even in the face of the red flags, I still didn’t think he could do any wrong.

Standing in front of him now and looking in his eyes, I realized how wrong I had been. How foolish I had been to make myself so vulnerable to him? And the control he had over me? It was just too much, and wasn’t even his fault. I caused it. There’s no way he would have such control if I hadn’t given it to him. I loved only with my heart and pushed my head and senses off the way.

There was no sign of the man who made me fall madly in love in his eyes I was looking at. Dennis was no longer mine… he was never mine to start with…

“I know you are cheating on me, Dennis. I saw you that day at the hotel, kissing and fondling that girl like your life depends on it. You said I saw it all wrong and that was the party planner, but my instincts are never wrong.” He wanted to say something at this point, but I didn’t let him.

“You’re cheating, Dennis, and until you man up and tell me the truth, I want you out of my house!” My voice was gentle, but my words were fierce. He looked at me and laughed.

He thought I was joking, and I was going to show him the side of me he had never met before.

Before he could finish his laugh, I had beeped two of my security details.

“I want you to go in there, check everywhere and pack out everything he owns. I want him off the premises in the next thirty minutes.” I said fiercely, and walked right past him.

He didn’t attempt to stop me like he had been trying to, and didn’t even come after me. I slowed down to be sure he wasn’t following me. When I didn’t hear any footsteps behind, I stopped and looked behind and then saw him going into the room with the guys.

I quickly looked away before he would see me looking. I went into the room, and just before I stepped into the bathroom, I heard voices downstairs.

I went to the window and peeped. Dennis was standing there and directing the men to pack Dennis' things into the car. He looked up just then and our eyes met and I saw nothing. No remorse whatsoever. He wasn’t moved one bit. In fact, he seemed happy to be leaving and that confused me a bit. Why was he happy to leave when he hadn’t gotten his goal?

I had thought he would go on his knees and beg to stay in the house. That was his best bet in getting his plans to work out well.

“What’s your plan, Dennis? What are you planning? What’s your endgame?” I muttered to myself.

He got in the car and as I watched him zoom off, another part of me broke. Reality had finally set in now. Three years of my life had gone up in the flames.

I stood there at the window staring blankly at the emptiness left behind by Dennis…
