The Prince

"Oh," I say, and I look away to hide my real feelings about what he just said, "A prince."

Royal stuff is so corny. And they are so annoying. All high and mighty. We hate them around here. I can believe I encountered one of them in the flesh and not only that, but he’s my man.

"Yeah. I mean, I'm the Alpha too... well, right now the title belongs to my brother... just technically, though. While I’m away,” he tries to explain, but it sounds like a lie. He’s trying to make himself sound less lame and it’s a little embarrassing.

"Awesome. The one title my dad would actually respect, you're sharing with your brother," I mumble, trying not to sound annoyed but not quite achieving it, "Uh... so, what are you even doing here then? If you’re the ‘Alpha’?”

That makes my mate freeze and gulp. He really is lying, huh? It’s fine. I lie a lot too.

"Just checking out my neighboring pack," he says, but he sounds caged and I know there's something else going on. Maybe he’s not fully lying.
