"What do you mean by her injuries won't heal easily."I said bursting into the room and from the corner of my eyes I could see Merida flinched.
My fist rolled into a ball by my sides and my eyes were blazing. I was so angry that I was even surprised.
This was the kind of anger that came because one cared so much about someone.
I shook my head , I was only doing it because I felt pity towards her, I said to myself.
Julietta's head shot up quickly and she gave me a sidelong look which I recognized immediately and turned away.
I knew something terrible was going on.
"You will have to apply the Willows Tears on the injury." She said in a very small voice her eyes fixed on mine as she walked to her desk.
" Come Merida, let me take you upstairs." I said, taking her hand .
Upstairs in our bedroom ,I made her lift her shirt up and unscrewed the small bottle , the greenish paste-like substance stared back at me, it had no smell .
I scoped just a little amount and placed it on the injury and she flinched under my touch, her ribs jutting out.
"I also have to rub this on the injuries at your back." I said my eyes fixed on the injury which was already turning purple at the edges.
"Why is it called Willow's Tears?" She asked in a small voice, it actually surprised me that she could speak to me and I knew she had been rehearsing it since forever.
" It's because the Willow tree produces a tear like sap and seems to make a crying sound when one scopes it. When it dries up it solidifies and becomes green." I explained glancing up to see her staring at me in astonishment.
" I made that up." I said immediately raising to my feet and her eyes dilated, the surprise and admiration gone." I only wanted you to feel at ease."
I placed the small bottle on the bedside table.
"Are you hungry Merida?"
She shook her head." No,I'm not."
And just as the words left her lips her lips stomach betrayed her and rumbled and our eyes met.
" I thought you said you're not hungry?"I was beginning to get angry with her. She just couldn't speak to me freely.
" What's wrong with you?" I barked, making her jump.
"Look, you are not with your aunt with her watermelon head and this is the last time I will tell you to speak to me freely. I don't bite."
A small knock came on the door three times and I didn't give a reply , the door creaked open and Rosa pushed her head in.
" What do you want?" I said in a deep voice.
" I came to announce that dinner is ready." Rosa replied.
"I had been waiting for you for centuries." I gave her an irritated look." I even thought you got lost in the kitchen."
Rosa swallowed and kept her eyes low staring at her feet.
"I want you to take Merida downstairs ."I commanded ." I hope you and those sick maids didn't prepare what will make me visit the toilet like I'm on a tour."
" No,Alpha."Rosa said in a small voice." I carefully supervise the maids and I'm sure—"
"Whatever." I cut her off with the wave of my hand. I turned to Merida."I will be with you shortly."
I turned and left the room descending down the stairs to Mom's office.
The look she gave me was so strange, I knew something was up and my heart pounded in my chest as I pushed the door open
" You are late." She said picking up some files.
" I was helping her apply the Willows Tears to her injury." I finished waiting for her to say something.
" How do you feel around her? " She asked ,her eyes avoiding mine.
"I do not understand."
"I noticed she doesn't have a scent, every wolf had one even if their wolf was bound or caged." She shook her head ." I don't know, whatever."
"I think it is because of the injury."I explained." But I can perceive her."
" It is because you are the Alpha." She said almost immediately.
"Is that what you wanted to tell me?" I asked folding my hands on my chest looking kind of bored. She said nothing for a while.
"But do you feel drawn to her?" She asked , her face twisted ready to shoot me with a lot of questions.
"Does it really matter?" I spat
" She is your 15th bride ,mate ... whatever." She said, pulling her lab coat." Do you feel that she is your mate?"
I look heavenwards and silent anger dances through me." How I'm I supposed to know ? I'm not the moon goddess."
Julietta shut her eyes momentarily and pinched the bridge of her nose.
" You don't understand,do you ? You need to find her, your true mate, else you might die."
"And all my life I have tried finding her, I'm already sick and tired of everything ,I just wish I could live a normal Alpha life." I muttered to myself staring out of the window.
" You have to check if you feel something for her if you feel that connection if she's your mate." She continued.
"Does it really matter?. Can't you just drop it?" I yelled.
" I'm not because you are my son and I can't bear the thought of losing you," she rattled off angrily and stopped her chest heaving."Even though that would happen you should have an heir, you don't want your cousin taking over the position of Alpha. This Pack will be in ruins, you of all people should know."
I turned away when she wanted to reach for my hand.
" If you find out Merida is not your mate, what will you do?"
I stared at her for a while, silence dwelled between us.
" I don't feel a thing for Merida, you know that." I confessed." I was just hoping she is The One ." I exhaled." If she isn't ,then she is going back to her Pack."
MERIDAFairy lights were delicately strung between old oaks and the Willow trees that swayed in the evening breeze casting a warm golden glow over the garden. Lukan had suggested for a small party, to relieve our stress he had said and I had laughed.Today had been so hectic, even though it was a small get together, Julietta had instructed the maid to prepare lot of light meals, snacks and cupcakes.Lemuel had gotten chilled wine and I had taken a glass already. We had invited very few people, those who were close to the Alpha's family and those we think should be invited.Just a handful though. Our packs laughter and light conversation filled the air fostering a spirit of happiness and solidarity. It was more than just a celebration, this small get-together served as a time to remember our journey and the relationships we had formed during the trials. It was a moment of joy and to forget all that had happened.I had heard little about Uncle Garrick and Aunt Ophelia. The last I he
LUKANI had gotten home very late that night and was too stressed to tell anyone how everything went.Merida had rarely spoken after everything Elizabeth had said and it was the hurt from everything that made me decided to take justice. After what had happened it had taken all of my strength to console Merida, as she remembered the painful memories of her childhood. But today, there was no need waiting time, she had to know how everything went, I owed her the that because she deserved it. I had arrested Garrick and Ophelia two days ago.. Justice had started to take its course as investigation had been carried out on the pack both of them had destroyed and searching for any other surviving relative.Ophelia's injury was a tragic twist of fate that left her in critical condition and she kind of deserve every bit of it.The emptiness in my chest persisted though. In light of what Merida had gone through justice was insufficient, but the moon goddess knew that arresting both of them we
LUKAN Each of the revelations and confessions that I had gotten from Elizabeth and Nahla over the last two weeks had been more disturbing than the one before. So disturbing that I couldn't get it out of my mind and it had made me so angry. The image of that night was still in my head and I couldn't push it aside and the overwhelming amount of evidence linking Aunt Ophelia and Uncle Garrick to Merida's parents deaths had painted a picture which was too horrific to ignore. Even as the days passed, I found myself becoming more determined. I knew I had to act fast if I wanted justice to be served to those two fools that had started this whole rubbish. I had promised myself that whatever the cost justice would be done and I would leave no stone unturned. I took a bend and before me was the Packhouse where Ophelia and Garrick lived, a monument to stolen wealth. It had been long I came here and coming here now brought back memories, memories of the first time I had met Merida. I
ELIZABETH The room was filled with flickering shadows as the fire in the hearth cracked. As Merida tried processed everything I had said. Her eyes widened and her face went pale as I sat across from her. This was more than just her past it was the reality that had strapped my soul together for years. "You deserve to know everything Merida. . But its difficult to hear what Im about to tell you." I said my voice trembling a little, as I looked around the room ,at everyone listening to me. Julietta handed her a mug of tea and she nodded while her fingers clenched around it. "Your parents Naomi and Nathaniel were the most honorable wolves I ever knew." I said my voice was so sorrowful "The love they had for you and your sister , Nahla was greater than life itself. Bit love was insufficient to shield them from the packs evil. " Merida opened her mouth to speak but she remained silent. "There was a struggle for power ."I added. “Some believed Naomi’s bloodline was too pu
ELIZABETH 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌I remembered the night of Lukan and Nahla's bonding ceremony clearly as if it had been burned into my soul. Deep crimson and royal gold colours which stand for strength and unity were used to decorate the grand hall. Music, laughter and the lovely scent of roses in bloom filled the air. In order to witness the ceremony that would bring two influential families together, every member of the pack was present and dressed to the nines. Lukan was a commanding presence in the middle of the room, his dark eyes searching the crowd for Nahla. A silence descended upon the hall as she eventually emerged. Nahla's smile was more brilliant than the chandeliers above and her silvery gown shone like moonlight. It was a hopeful smile that offered joy for the years ahead. My sense of obligation to them as their aunt had always been very strong. I made sure everything went according to plan . Bit something about that evening seemed strange, that I couldn't place my
ELIZABETH I could remember vividly when I was a little girl, our family had long held dinner as a sacred ritual a time to forget about problems and just spend time together. Tonight Julietta insisted reminded me of that. The table was exquisitely arranged with candles illuminating the food spread. Lukan sat next to Merida and they occasionally smiled as though they were trying to reassure one another. Nahla sat beside me, she had a small smile on her lips but her eyes betrayed everything as she kept stealing glances at Lukan.I sighed, we had discussed about this before coming here today, I can't blame her though. She was still in love with him. Always the gracious hostess Julietta clapped her hands together. "All right everyone start eating! Dean dont argue over the mashed potatoes. " In mock indignation Dean gasped. "Just once ,Mother ! Just once and I'm permanently branded. " T
