I blinked blankly a couple of times. Still blown away. She herself, wasn't confident about what she had just said. She stared at the desk as if she had told me her worst secret and was afraid I'd judge her. Well of cause I would. She had just told me that she is in love with my boyfriend. Well not boyfriend, but my Yoké. My man.

"Alice you don't even know what love is..."

She shook her head. "No, don't throw that my way, sis. I'm not a child. I know exactly what love is. Love is when someone else makes you feel so perfect when everything else feels imperfect around you. Love is when someone treats you so good and values you, so much more than your own family. Love is when someone accepts you for exactly who you are. Dan doesn't ask me to change. He doesn't see the black sheep in me that everyone sees. He sees me, and he loves how I'm so different. I don't get that-"

"Alice, Dave loves you. You know that. And all t

Mom and I started the wedding preparations the same week. From hall hunting to picking the type of design we wanted. I actually took part. Big time. I accompanied mom to the different halls and actually picked what I liked. I kept myself and my mind busy. It was the only way I could keep myself from changing my mind. I didn’t want to think about Yoké at all.I helped mom to choose the wedding invitation design. I helped her draw up a list of the people we’d invite. Obviously there was only one person on my mind. I didn’t care if everyone else didn’t show. Yoké had to be there. He had to witness the whole ceremony of me being given to another man. Becoming somebody else’s wife. Somebody who was not him. If he doesn’t care about me, he would care if he is at the wedding on the 15th. I didn’t tell mom though, I let Alice do it for me. Obviously she wouldn’t forget to mention Yoké. And just like I knew she would

2 weeks later“She looks beautiful.” Alice said, awestruck.“Truly.” Mom said, tears filling her eyes. “I’m going to spoil make up.”“You will, Mrs. Roseburg.” The stylist told her handing her a box of tissues.“This wedding dress looks so good on you.” Alice was telling me.I was looking beautiful. So beautiful that it made me feel sad. I was looking so good, just to be handed over to some other guy that I didn’t even love. I waited two weeks for things to change. I waited to weeks for Omar’s call. I got nothing. That was a sign, Yoké couldn’t be changed. I had to do this. There was no use in waiting around for something that would never change.“You’re the most beautiful bride I’ve ever seen.” Mom told me, placing her hand on my cheek.&

I dressed up and all, but I just couldn’t go. I didn’t want to be there and-“He stopped mid-sentence, sighed and looked away.“And what?”“See you get married to someone else.” I didn’t know whether it was him speaking or

"Hm?" Dan was asking. "I mean, you are already in a wedding dress, I'm in a suit. I'll just tidy up and... We can make it our day."Isn't this what I've always wanted? To finally get to be with the love of my life, and forever? Now why was I so dump struck, speechless?"Obviously I'm not saying we go to the hall or anything, that would be scandalous," He chuckled. "Maybe we can go to the department, what's it called, court, and get married. Once we are legally married, there's nothing much anyone can do about it."And then what's gonna happen after signing those married papers? Do we get to live like Francis and Janet? In secret?"Geny, baby, why aren't you saying anything?" He asked me. "I'm on one knee, just like you do it here, and I'm asking you to marry me. Let's finally soar over all our problems. Let's get married, we'll never be apart again."I shook my head. "No. No, Yok

I woke up with a dozen kisses all over my face.“Morning.” I smiled at him, rubbing my eyes.“Good morning.” He smiled back and then pulled me closer to him.“How was it?” He asked me.“How was what?”“Last night…” He looked a little nervous.“I think it might have been the best last night together.”“’Last’?” He looked surprised. “We’re not dying. We’ll still be together, okay? Very soon.”We heard the front door open and footsteps enter. Yoké and I exchanged looks.“Omar is back.” I said. This moment took me back to the village. I remembered thinking that it was Omar but in fact it was Gamu, bringing Francis, Nathan and the pilots to take me away. I fe

I guess instead of playing around in the kitchen with Yoké and making scrambled eggs and tea, we should have been sitting around the coffee table and coming up with a proper story for me. Now I’d have to make up lies on the spot. What if I get caught? My fingers were trembling so bad. I didn’t even have pockets where I could hide them, and I guess folding my arms would send a message that I was hiding something, being secretive. I don’t know how these cops think. The two policemen sat together on the couch opposite me. One of them had a notebook and the other was just sitting there with his hand to his chin observing me. Dad was sitting next to me on the other couch.“Miss Genesis,” The policeman with the notebook began. “I’m sherif Charle and this is sherif Davis. We’ll just ask you a few questions that might help us trace your kidnappers.”Trace my kid

Monday morning. I woke up just before my alarm rang. I couldn’t wait to get to work, just to see Yoké again. I couldn’t stop smiling as I did my make up: knowing that whether or not I decided to put on make up today, Yoké would still think I’m beautiful. Such a lucky woman, I am. My phone began ringing and I rushed over to get it from the charger, cause I knew that it would be Yoké calling. It wasn’t. It was Nathan. I frowned, my whole mood changing suddenly because he hadn’t even crossed my mind once. Now he was calling me and I didn’t know what to expect.“Nathan?”“Hey, Gen.” I couldn’t tell from he’s voice how upset he worse.“You okay?” I asked, and then bit my lips for asking such a stupid question. You left him stranded at the altar how can he be okay?“Yeah… Question is, are y

I stood behind the double glass doors with my hands folded and watched the rain fall. It was right after breakfast. I was still in my pajamas and gown. I mean, why look good when you won’t be going anywhere? I just combed my hair back, didn’t even tie it up or anything. I watched the rain pour and pour. It felt therapeutic, made me feel calmer. I don’t know how long I stood there but when my room door opened, I was brought back to the room. Standing alone, staring out at the rain like some psycho.Probably one of the maids, coming to do my bed or clean the room. I heard her footsteps enter the room and lock the door. The footsteps got closer. Someone wrapped their arms around tightly. It was Yoké. I could feel him and smell him. I smiled as he put the side of his face against mine. We were both now staring out at the balcony.“What are you doing?” He asked me.“Nice view, right?

"We have nothing left because of him." Dad said, staring at the ground. "I can't believe I trusted him that much.""Who is it, dad?" I asked."None other than your very own half brother, slash cousin, slash no relation at all, Francis.""What?" I asked. "What is he looking for? He wants to make money out of Toko Village meanwhile he is stealing from us and still gets a basic salary on top of that. How can someone love money this much? So much that you'd steal from your own..."Alice and Yoké joined us, they had heard the news too."I knew that that sneaky guy was dodgy." Alice said as she stopped behind the couch Delilah was sitting on and leaned on it.

She hugged him for a while as he continued crying. "We are here..." She told him, she looked sad too. "We love you and we'll always be here for you." I stopped at the door way before entering the living room. He was in a navy blue suit, standing next to the couch, instead of sitting. Rosalie had just brought him his drink. He briefly pointed towards the table where she was supposed to place his drink. I went to sit on the couch opposite the one dad was standing next to. Yoké stayed at the room door post and leaned against it.Dad paced to and fro and stopped where he had started."So we've lost more than half of our clients..." Dad said, voice still powerful although the sad message.I kept quiet and watched him."We've lost most of our projects we were busy with, the clients asked to cancel their contracts or else they'd take us to court. Most of our employees, has resigned because they see the downfall. They know that we won't be able to pay them. Only the loyal ones remain."He then shrugged. "Maybe they're not even loyal. We stopped a block away from the motel just incase there were people put in place by Nathan to watch Yoké. But we could see the motel from here. It was a cheap old building. So cheap that the light of the ‘M’ in ‘Motel was flickering so bad that you’d think it would just die any moment. “So what will happen is you’ll give me Nathan’s phone so that when I get in, I can ask him which room number he is at.” The woman half turned to talk to me.“But I’m going in with you.” I told her.She shook her head. “I may not have been entirely loyal to your father but I’m not bad enough of a worker to put your life in potential danger.”“What do you mean danger? I’m—”“I have a gun. Although I’m going in there alone, I know how to defend myself up to a certain point. We don’t know whether Nathan’s men are in there, or around here, in some building, possibly watching us right now. What happens if they fire at us?”“They’ll never fire at me—”“You d

I slammed the car door and fell back on the back seat. The woman, who was supposed to shut the already shut door for me gave me an unbelievable look and then got into the driver's seat."So what happened to your twin? Isn't he going to come with us?" I asked, bitterly."I understand you're upset that your father won't help you with your boyfriend but you don't have to take it out on me, or the car door." She told me looking back at me.We maintained eye contact for a while until she turned back and fastened her seat belt. She started the car and we were on the road again after a few minutes.I was too angry to care about how much this woman was looking at me in the rear view mirror."What?" I suddenly asked after a while of more rear view eye contact. She suddenly stopped the car causing me to fall forward and hit against her seat."Hey!" I shouted as I sat back in my seat. “Come here, my love.” Nathan told me. “Come take a seat next to me.”“I don’t want to sit next to you.” I told him. “I want you to tell me which plane Yoké is planning to take and when.”“Gen, your dad will always choose me over Dan. Look, all this is a misunderstanding. Once I speak to him things can go back to the way they were. We could still get married and what happens today would never come to light. We’d still be the world’s favorite couple.”I didn’t even know what to say to him. “Are you crazy?” Those were the only words that could leave my mouth.“I’m crazy about you, yes. My fiancée.”“Nathan, tell me which plane Yoké is planning to take. Please.”“Why do you need him when I’m here?” He asked me.Just then, two cops walked in."Is he ready for us now?" One asked."Yes, sir." One of the nurses answered."Okay." The policeman said and began unlocking the cuff on Nathan's arm to the bed.

When they got out of the car and came to open the door for me, I didn’t even try to fight them off, what was the use? No matter how much I would try, they’d still have the upper hand. And besides even if I manage to get away, how do I get home without a cellphone or money? There hasn’t been a building in sight since we’ve hit the road.“I’ll walk myself.” I told them as they opened the door for me.They exchanged looks. What was it with these two and looking at each other as if they could pass little messages with just one glance?“Look, if you try to run, we won’t go after you,” The male officer told me. “The distance back is not walkable, you’ll starve out there and die and then your family will never hear of you again. So don’t try anything stupid, okay?”I didn’t respond.“You have a better chance of surviving this than running away.” The lady

  • Till Death Do Us Part    83-Waiting for me

When I got back to my senses, my first instinct was to unlock the doors and get as far away as I could from this car and Nathan. Nathan was still crying out in agony, trying to ease his pain by clutching onto his wrist with the unharmed hand. I reached out and pressed the unlock button on the stirring wheel. He didn’t try to stop me, just continuing yelling in pain. I opened the door on my side. As I was about to step out, I remembered, Nathan was our only way to getting Rissa back. I reached into his suit pocket where I had seen him put his phone back after the call with one of his men.“What are you doing, Genesis?” He asked me but did not try to fight me off. “Help me.”I began searching the pockets of his jacket for the phone.“Help me, Genesis.” He said again, looking at me helplessly as I searched his pockets. “I love you.”“Freeze!” I looked up to see a policemen on Nathan’s si
