[ Sophia ]
It is a sunny afternoon today.
Despite coming home at eight in the night after the exhausting ring hunt and then the dress selection for tonight, I talked with Mason over the phone until past midnight giving myself only a few hours of sleep.
Currently I am sitting in front of my dresser, surrounded by a half dozen girls who are sent by Mrs. Ashton's personal stylist to decorate me for the big event--The Engagement. My eyes are burning due to lack of sleep, all I just want to snuggle under my warm blanket and sleep for hours until I feel recharged.
But I received a strict warning from Lily and a remidner from Mrs. Ashton that I must not look less than the Princess of England herself.I rolled my eyes on Lily's exaggerating comment when she barged inside my room at six in the morning.I feel my freedom slipping away and I couldn't do anything to escape this charade.
"Ma,am would you like your hairs to be tied or we can simply go with open braided hairs?"One of the girls, who were working on my hairs, asked me.
Oh so here I do have a choice!
"Umm I don't know.Whatever you think best to go with the dress."I replied being totally clueless. I spent all my life wearing jeans and shirts or at some occasions frocks. I mostly tie my hairs in a pony tail or leave them uncombed and free.
"Alright then I'll tie them in a Princess bun."She grinned like a Cheshire cat.Wait! It meant she intended to braid my hairs in a bun and it was all a formality. How could I be so stupid?I groaned inwardly and let them play with my body like I am some science project.
"Ma'am we are done. You can look at your now and tell us how do you like our job?"The woman, named Rose swing my chair to let me see my reflection in the mirror.
The girl staring back at me,left me stunned.I couldn't recognize myself anymore. They had done their task excellently, no doubt why they are being paid a hefty amount by their wealthy customers. The maroon colored velvet gown fit my curves perfectly.I never wore such expensive and beautiful dress .Hell!I can't even imagine myself in such dresses which aren't made for me.The gown covers half of my annual fees' amount.Daniel made me buy it last night saying it was his first gift for me.
I felt confident and beautiful though it wasn't me nor I wanted to change my whole personality for someone's sake.It was just for tonight then I could change into my normal lifestyle. The doors bursted open and the two she devils walked inside.Lily like usual passed a overly sweet smile at the girls while rushing to me,one the other hand her daughter threw a disgusted glare at me.
"Oh my little baby. You are looking like a real princess. I am sure tonight your would be husband will be smitten by your charms.Am I right Rose?"She exclaims hyperbolically.
"Mom this is too much."I passed a tight smile to the girls.Oh God!This is so awkward.
"You're right Mrs. Stone your daughter is the perfect girl for Daniel and I am sure tonight not only him but everyone present at the function would be smitten by her innocent beauty."Rose smiled genuinely.
"Oh of coarse my daughter is one precious gem."Lily hid her annoyance behind her fake smile.Everyone knew how desperately she wanted Olivia to take my place.
"She isn't looking that great.I bet it's the magic of your skills which turned her from an ugly duckling to a swan."Olivia snorted venomously .
Her words pinched me hard while I wanted the earth to swallow me alive. She insulted me in front of outsiders.Well she didn't do it for the first time but they aren't some common people like us.I bet in future,we'd meet again. I'll be part of their circle very soon.
"Well the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, Ms. Stone and for us,Miss Sophia is a natural beauty. She doesn't need any magic to enhance her charms. You'll see it tonight."Rose replied to her remarks.
Olivia left tongue tied and humiliated.Having nothing to retort back, she stomped her foot and walked out of my room.
"Please forgive her.She doesn't behave like this usually. My elder daughter is very sweet but since her younger sister means Sophia's marriage is fixed, she has been depressed as she is years older than Sophia and still unmarried."Lily shed some crocodile tears to cover up for Olivia's misbehavior.
"But it doesn't give her any right to mistreat her younger sister ,Mrs. Stone.Anyways,we should be leaving to the pary venue."Rose answered her and then turned her attention back on me,"Are you ready to steal your Prince Charming's heart?"She winked at me.
My cheeks heated up.Only if she knew the ugly reality behind this facade of a love-arranged marriage.
"Yeah let's go."I nodded my head in affirmation. This is it.I have to sacrifice my dreams of an independent and simple life away from this world ,would be crumbled into ashes.
Rose helped me to walk out of the house where a car was already waiting for me.Ashtons took care of everything.Luckily,my so called family would be coming in another car.
"I am sorry in their behalf."I felt to apologize for Olivia and Lily's inappropriate behavior.
"You don't have to apologize for someone else's deeds Sophia.Since you're going to marry in an influential family, let me give you a fair advise,"She glanced over me,"Living with Ashtons isn't as easy as it looks.People find their lifestyle very intriguing but everything has two sides. The family is full of vultures so never means never show your weakness to them or they won't wait to destroy you."Rose's words sank deep in my heart.
She didn't mention a name but I know she referred to Mrs. Ashton who despised me from each cell of her body.
And like this, she gave me very useful advice until we arrived at our destination, the seven star hotel in the heart of the city.Aderaline rushed into my veins as as soon as I stepped out of the car and attacked by the swarms of paparazzis and media persons. The flash of cameras were too blind for my eyes.
Sweat begun to form on my skin.I felt I could pass out any moment amid the noises and bunch of questions thrown upon me when a familiar arm sneaked around my waist and I was pulled into a hard body. The intoxicating scent of cinnamon and fresh mint made me realise who was my savior.
"You all are invited to cover the event and take as much photographs as you want but don't trouble my beautiful fiancee before our big day.She is already nervous, Am I right darling?"Daniel asked me and rubbed my waist as an indication to nod as my response.
I slightly tilted my head to glance at hundreds of curious eyes upon me.
"Ye..yess.."I barely whispered.
"See I told you.Now please excuse us."He said very confidently in a strong voice and led us inside the hotel, his security guards paved the way for me.
He pulled his hand back as soon as we walked in a secluded waiting room. His expressions again turned to the neutral one as usual while I looked everywhere but at him.
"I am sorry for..."He cleared his throat, awkwardness was floating in the air .
"It's alright.I know you did it to save me."I said honestly. If it wasn't him rescuing me on the mean time,I would had made a joke of myself and the reputation of Ashtons.
Silence fell upon us.We had nothing to say to each other.I kept standing there fidgeting with my fingers,my heels were killing my feet .
"Okay...I'll see at the party. Please take some rest because the event will end by the midnight."He said and turned to walk out of the room but stopped while his hands held the door knob.
I stared at him quizzically.
"You're looking beautiful."He said, a faint smile threatening to spread on the corner of his lips but it was enough to heat up my cheeks and ears.
"Than...thanks.."I stuttered while blushing hard.I am not used to such compliments coming from opposite gender except Mason, whom I know since my early teenage and always see him an elder brother.
He gave me a silent and about to walk out when suddenly something strike me and I blurted which I should said a long ago.
"Happy birthday Daniel."
[ Daniel ]It took me hard from rolling my eyes as I roamed my eyes in the banquet hall.It was buzzing with murmurs and laughters of I roughly calculated five hundred or more relatives and guests.I know most of them personally but my birthday is the only day,I want to keep personal but my family can't allow me to enjoy my day to myself .I picked up a glass of scotch from a passing waiter and circled the room receiving their greetings and wishes as much as I could. It was very exhausting, pretending to be ecstatic but the truth was,I wanted to run away from this circus and enjoy a bottle of chilled beer with Aiden.Speaking of Aiden,I hadn't spotted him yet.He promised to arrive at the venue before anyone and be my savior.I saw my Mom talking to a group of her elite friends and the way her hooded eyes scrunched up in a distasteful look,I bet she was listening to her friends' 'wise opinion' on my would be wife and in laws.I tried to walk past them without catching her attention. I had n
[ Sophia ]Finally, the day had come when my destiny was going to be changed so my last name.It felt so strange,I have lived twenty three years of my life with a name which is my identity but with two words, it will be changed much to my resentment but I knew it was useless to fight for something that should be mine.My fate was already sealed by others.I was woken up by Lily at sharp 5:30 in the morning to take a shower and be ready when Rose and her team will arrive to help me in getting ready. The wedding is scheduled to take place at eleven in the morning."Nervous?"Rose's melodic voice snapped me out of my venture in the memory lane.I passed her a faint nod of my head while the girls did my hairs.I opted for a more natural look though Rose insisted on going a little overboard but I simply refused.I couldn't bear to look at my sight if I wasn't able to recognize myself in the mirror. My gown was also not very extravagant though the shop,Mrs. Ashton recommended through her secre
[ Third Person's pov ]The family gathered around them to congratulate the newly wedded couple who wanted to run far away from this fake preten of a couple completely in love."Welcome to the family Sophia, now you are officially one of us."Henry Ashton looked at his grandson and his wife proudly, his one last wish was finally fulfilled. The new couple could only smile awkwardly to the reaction of greetings from other family members and guests.Sophia's condition was far worse than Daniel's. At least he had a family who genuinely loved him unlike her, whose adoptive parents and an abusive sister were only looking this marriage as a golden opportunity to suck on Ashton's money. They knew Sophia would never deny them if they demand for her husband's money. After a numberless session of post wedding photography, they headed to their countryside house for the reception. Sophia excused herself immediately as soon as Rose came to take her for a dress change and make up.Daniel's dangerously clos
[ Sophia ]Finally, after it felt like ages, the reception came to an end.I couldn't make a rough calculation of the time but I am sure,it was around twelve forty or forty five when last group of guests took their departure, now it's only the Ashton and Stone family were left in the huge house. I shouldn't call it a house on first hand,it was a mansion and no one lived in it!Grandpa and Mrs. Ashton left just after the sunset. Well Grandpa,in his seventies needed some rest while Marriatte needed an excuse to leave. I had observed her sulking throughout the ceremony and I was fortunate that we didn't had encounter each other.Much to my relief, Olivia kept herself under a good behavior, perhaps her parents warned her to behave at her best, well I never got a chance to see her best of behavior but at least she didn't create any scene throughout the wedding and reception so I guess I could cut her some slacks."Sophia my sweet daughter,I can't believe you're a married woman now and won't
[ Daniel ]To say,I hate the idea being stuck with a complete stranger for the rest of my life,is partially true .Well, getting was never in one of my agenda in next few years .I mean who marries at the age of twenty eight nowdays when we have a lot to achieve in our single lives.I did achieve what I already dreamt at the age of twenty six when I stepped in the Ashton business though my father still holds the supreme position and all the major decisions inside Ashton Corporation is taken by him only but I do the job done.Perhaps,in a couple of years,he'd pass over the position to me.I let the warm water soak my aching muscles. The last day was quite hectic for me and the certain brunette sleeping in the next room who is my wife now.I stared at the shiny metal band in my finger. It has brought a great deal of personal changes in my life. Now I have to face many grumpy men who are either strict business associates or old family friends whose dream to hitch their daughters with me,is now
[ Sophia ]The sight of blood churned my guts, the breakfast I ate moments ago threatened to come out but I couldn't do it right in front of him."Let me do this."I said to him who had been struggling to clean his wound."No I am almost done with it.It's not a deep cut though. "He refused .I rolled my eyes on his stubbornness.Men will always be men.I took a long breath and snatched the scissors and cotton from his other hand.He was reluctant at first but a single glare from me ,caused him to give up.I examined his wound, well the cut wasn't deep but a chunk of glass stuck in his soft skin.My hands trembled.I had done first aid multiple times but I didn't know why I wasn't able to concerntrate. His cucumber and fresh mint shower jel's smell was invading my nostrils. His long calloused fingers and a shiny thin metal band was sitting on his finger reminded me that it's my duty to look after him.I vowed to stay in his sickness and health.I carefully plucked the tiny chunk resulting in more
[ Sophia ]I rub my sweaty palms on the silky fabric of my expensive dress which might cost Daniel a few thousand dollars. My skin hairs stood up whenever I remembered the price of this evening dress.Initially I thought Rose was joking just to pull my legs as I was reluctant to take something unnecessary costly but when I saw the price tag,my eyes literally popped out of their sockets.I wanted to return it to Rose but it was too late for another dress hunting and when she told me that the dinner will be evolving around Mrs. Mariatte Ashton and other ladies of the Ashton family,I had to go with her preplannned dress and make up.Currently,I am sitting in the backseat of Daniel's car.He is typing away on his phone, probably replying to his mails,as I stole a peak from his phone's screen."Stop stressing yourself Sophia. They won't eat you."He said without glancing up at me.His tone reflected annoyance. It meant he observed my nervousness in my actions."I bet you would have felt the same i
[ Daniel ]The ride back to my own house was filled with excruciatingly thick silence.I wanted to break something.I had to release the anger I was having a hard time to control while Sophia sat like a stone idol at the far end of the seat.Whatever happened at my parents' house threw negative impact on her who wasn't willing to give a chance to us and what my mother did tonight, definitely left a scar on her self respect. After thirty minutes of riding in suffocating air,we finally reached at our house or should I call it my house as she hadn't accepted it yet.I looked beside me to check upon her but she already proceeded to leave the car, sighing in exhaustion,I too come out of the car and released a long breath. I was going thin with my patience,Sophia's indifferent behavior slowly gotten into my nerves.I had to have a clear view to see the invisible wall between us and ask about her coldness."Sophia we need to talk."I said matching her pace as she hurriedly made her way inside t
[ Sophia ]Love is an emotion that makes us feel so many things, it teaches us many things, good or bad, bright or dark, pain and joy. I found myself lucky to experience the ultimate depth of love.Love is a vague idea but I don't wish to go in its multiple layers as I was happy in what I learnt by loving Daniel Ashton, the man who taught me the undefine definition of love.Sometimes, I wonder what would I had become if Daniel wasn't in my life.I am happy in what I have today. It has been ten years since I walk down the aisle with so many uncertainties and fears of my own about the marriage but the man waiting for me at the end of the aisle proved me wrong and I felt thankful to my stars that I didn't turn down the proposal.I feel complete in my own little world with the most amazing husband and a little sunshine with her father's raven black hairs and charcoal black eyes, a unique feature on her beautiful round face. She's tucking on my dress which force me to look down at her. A h
[ Daniel ]The decision my grandfather made, it disturbed my mental peace. He was adamant to disown my parents which would lead to their worse days and it was the last thing I wished for them.I admit that they did horrible things to me and my brother, at a point, they were even ready to remove me from their way but despite their flaws, they were still my parents and seeing them suffering for rest of their lives, it didn't fit well with me.I couldn't enjoy the power and immense wealth when they live a life of adversity but my grandpa was one of a stubborn man. If he made his mind about something, it was impossible for anyone to move his determination."Daniel, what are you doing here at this hour?" Sophia's soft voice snapped me out of my deep thoughts. I looked around and found I spent the whole evening strolling by the lakeside and now, the temperature had fallen to a point when I felt my bone clattering with cold but the next moment, a blanket was being wrapped around my shoulders
[ Sophia ]"Shall we go in the living room now?" I asked craning my head a little to glance at Daniel who had his eyes closed."Can we stay here for five minutes more? I like us here, naked and in each other's arms." His grip on my waist tightened more, soft butterflies erupted in my belly but we had to get up."It's past eight, Daniel. You know your brother more than me. He has no filter in his vocabulary and he's definitely going to tease us." I said."Then let him. We're not doing anything wrong. We're doing what married couples do inside their bedroom and their guests has no right to poke their nose in their hosts' personal life." He replied nonchalantly."Hey, Aaron is your brother." I slapped his chest," And I need to use the bathroom or my bladder will burst in next two minutes." I protested and this time it worked. He loosened his grip on me and I chose the moment to slip out of the blankets."I like this view more than anything in this world." He smirked, his eyes raking on m
[ Sophia ]"Daniel, let's go inside. Aaron and Daisy must be up by now." I said to Daniel in whose arms I was cuddling for last couple of hours. The morning sunrays falling over our faces forced us to go back inside the house."Can we just stay here for a little while? I mean I prefer you being in my arms than anything else. I missed your body against mine, your vibrant smile and your sweet voice." He said in my ear and nuzzled his neck in the hollow of my neck."Your arms are my heaven, Daniel but we have been sitting here for last two hours. Don't you want to have a hearty breakfast with all of us?" I asked him while trying to control myself from moaning."I need you, Soph." He whispered in a hushed voice and slowly crawled his hand under my sweater. I shuddered as soon as his cold fingers came in contact with my warm skin."But..we're..not..alone in this..house."I tried to surpress my moan as his hand moved upward and stopped just below my breasts while his other hand slipped under
[ Sophia ]I had no words or strength to calculate the hours I spent staring out of the window of my room at the vast sky. The aching numbness in my heart was something I couldn't control. My Daniel looked happy when he annouced his elopement with a beautiful woman whom the Goddess Venus had created with Her own hands. She looked perfect in his arms, they looked perfect which made me realise a very harsh and cruel truth that I was nothing but a poor girl coming from the shitty gutters compared to their life. But my Daniel. He never let our socio-economic differences wedge a rift between us since the beginning of our marriage. He always treated me as his better half. I fell too hard for my husband that it felt impossible for me to breathe a single moment without him.I rubbed my burning eyes when they begun to rebel against my solo mourning over my broken heart. The sky had slowly turning a bright shade of gray. The dawn was marking it's presence in the horizon. I looked at my wrist wa
[ Daniel ]"This is unacceptable, Edward." Morrison slammed his hands on the wooden table making the ladies flinch by surprise. His face was radiating fury and my father had a timid cloak on."We have no other options, Mr. Morrison. My father stabbed me on the back by transferring his property on that poor girl. I am sure it's her trick. She manipulated my father by her innocent acting. All I am asking you to give us some time or accept Daniel's conditions." My father casted a disappointed look at my direction. For the first time, the man was defeated by someone ,not someone but his own blood.Morrison looked dead in my eyes. He would kill me with a single shot if he was given an opportunity. I surely put him in a big dilemma."You're going to pay for this, Daniel Ashton so your lover." He tried to threaten me but I was unphased by his hollow threats."I am not afraid but you're, Mr. Morrison. Like I said before, I fucking don't care and Sophia is far from your reach. Think twice befo
[ Daniel ]"The agreement is bound to happen in this marriage, Daniel because I do not trust you with my daughter and more importantly our business. You and your little wife has already put a daint on Ashton's image. People ridicule the Ashton family in every way possible." Morrison mocked at my face. It was a direct attack on my family but I didn't care what he thought about the latter."Alright, I heard your reasons, Mr. Morrison now it's my turn, if I am allowed to speak." I spared a glance at my parents whose faces were red with the humiliation but they couldn't say a word to Morrison as he was the biggest alliance who was going to help us spread our roots in the gulf countries."You will tie the knot with Emma after two weeks so you have all rights to put forward your opinions as long as they don't hurt our sentiments." He made it very clear that he wouldn't take any insult in return but I had no care in the world for what he thought or how he tamed my ambitious parents so easily
[ Daniel ]I felt like I was stabbed multiple times by the sharpest dagger and yet my soul wasn't ready to leave my body. I was played by the cruel game of fate or I say my very own family."Daniel, you're here. I have been looking for you in the whole mansion." My mother's regal voice echoed in the air, she put extra efforts to sound annoyed but she or my father were the last person on the earth whom I wanted to be around me at the moment.I gripped the railing bar tightly in order to restrain myself from leashing out on her and ruin everything for me."What do you want now, mother." I didn't try to hide the distaste in my tone."Daniel, do not behave like a brat that your ex-wife turned you into. Emma is the right choice for you. Jesus! She was always on the top of my priority list among those girls I want you to marry. Thanks to your grandfather who brought the little piece of rag in our family but I don't care as she isn't a part of our life anymore and I'll make sure she would ne
[ Sophia ]To say I was cool, would be a plain lie. My heart had not been at peace since Daniel left me to work on his plan to bring us out of this web of conspiracies. I mean why do his family can't let us live as we want us to be.They have problem with me and they found me unfit as their daughter in law just because I do not belong to elite rich class or my parents didn't hold a high place in the society. Is it necessary to possess wealth to get the approval of society or the virtues only embrace the people with wealth coming from all the sources.I find it total blasphemous. I mean the elite class is the one who lacks most of the human virtues, their empire is built on the sweat and blood of the poor working class or what the events from history tell us."Hey, cupcake." Aaron's always chirpy voice snapped me out of my platonic thoughts."Hey..sorry I was just..you know."I dismissed my negative thoughts from conjuring my sane state of mind."It's okay, dear sister in law. I know it
