Alison

The air was filled with tension as I held the phone tightly against my ear, listening to Aiden’s voice on the other end.

“How’s Damien’s condition?” he asked.

I hesitated. “He’s… recovering.”

Aiden exhaled. “So, he’s alive.”

I frowned. “You were behind the attack, weren’t you?”

A slow, cruel chuckle echoed through the line. “Of course, I was.”

I swallowed, my throat suddenly dry.

“Damien’s about to meet his end, Alison,” Aiden continued. “He’s outlived his usefulness, and soon, he’ll be nothing but a memory.”

Something twisted in my gut. The certainty in his voice, the complete lack of hesitation—it made my stomach churn.

“Right,” I murmured. But deep down, I felt otherwise. I didn’t want anything to happen to Damien. But I knew I couldn’t tell Aiden that.

The sound of Aiden sighing pulled me out of my haze.

“Is something wrong?” I asked.

“Nothing, it’s just that. I Can’t wait for you to be back, finally.”

I felt my heart stop as I took in his words.

“So I can have my wife in my arms again.” He added.

Those words made my blood run cold.

His wife.

I wasn’t his wife. Not anymore. Not after everything I had done.

Not after Damien.

My pulse pounded in my ears as guilt wrapped around my throat like a noose.

“And I know your father would be proud of you,” Aiden continued speaking. “For seeking justice. For doing what’s right.”

I felt sick.

I didn’t deserve his praise. I had abandoned my mission. I had given in to my desires. I had betrayed Aiden, my father, everything I was supposed to stand for.

“Alison?”

I blinked, realizing Aiden was waiting for a response.

“I…” My voice cracked. “Yeah. I hope so.”

There was a brief pause.

“I need you to find out if Damien’s planning to retaliate,” Aiden said, his tone sharpening. “We have to stay two steps ahead.”

I nodded, even though he couldn’t see me.

“Goodnight, Alison,” he murmured before ending the call.

I stood frozen in the hallway, my phone still pressed to my ear, even as the screen went dark.

I felt dirty.

The weight of my actions had finally settled on my chest, suffocating me.

I had betrayed Aiden. I had betrayed my father.

And the worst part?

I wasn’t sure I regretted it.

My fingers trembled as I tucked my phone away and turned back toward the room.

When I stepped inside, the dim light of the lamp cast a soft glow over Damien’s sleeping figure. He looked peaceful, despite the bruises marring his face, and the cuts across his skin.

My heart clenched.

I needed to pull away.

I needed to remember why I was here.

But as I stood there, watching the steady rise and fall of his chest, I knew—deep down—I wouldn’t.

***

The next morning, I woke to the feeling of warm lips trailing down my shoulder.

A soft sigh escaped me before I even opened my eyes.

“Morning,” Damien murmured against my skin.

I turned my head slightly to find his face hovering inches from mine, his dark eyes still heavy with sleep but filled with something deeper—something I didn’t want to name.

“You’re injured,” I reminded him, but my voice was weak, betraying me.

His lips quirked into a smirk. “That won’t stop me.”

I should have pushed him away. I should have resisted.

Instead, I let him kiss me.

Because resisting Damien was impossible.

Later that evening, we stood on the terrace, the evening breeze brushing against my skin as I leaned against the railing. The lamplight twinkled in the distance, but I barely noticed them. My mind was too consumed by Damien.

He stood beside me, his fingers tracing lazy circles over my hand. Time seemed to stand still during that moment.

I guess that is always what happens when I am with Damien.

The whole world always seem to fade into a distance and it felt like we were the only one visible.

I wished I had met Damien differently.

I wished he wasn’t tied to my life.

Maybe things could have been different, and I wouldn’t have to carry this guilt around.

I felt like I was at a crossroads and there was nothing I could do.

Or atleast I pretended there wasn’t. I guess that was the only way. I could not stop myself from thinking about the mess I had made and the actions I had taken.

I sighed. I didn’t know Damien heard me. The feeling of his hands brushing against my cheek snapped me out of my thoughts.

“Are you okay?” He asked in a low tone.

“If I tell you I wasn’t what would you do?” I asked with a teasing smile, although the smile wasn’t from my heart.

“I would hurt anyone who made you feel this way.” He told me, “I mean it.”

“When did you become so protective of me?” I asked Damien.

“I always have been.” He replied. “I just spent my time denying it.”

I was quiet then I spoke up. “You make me feel things I’ve never felt before.” I blurted out.

His gaze flicked to mine, then I noticed something unreadable passing through his eyes. “You’re not the only one.”

Before I could respond, a voice interrupted us.

“Damien!” It was Hugh, and he didn’t have a pleasant look on his face.

“What do you want?” Damien snapped.

“Something requires your attention.”

“And that something doesn’t have a name?” Damien asked.

Hugh was quiet his eyes traveled from Damien before landing on me. After flashing me a glare his gaze fell back on Damien.

“A parcel was delivered.”

“A Parcel?” Damien arched a brow, and Hugh nodded.

“The parcel was directed to you and I have a feeling that whatever is inside is important.”

Damien sighed, clearly reluctant to leave.

“Very important.” Hugh sighed and after Damien heard that. He turned to me, brushing a strand of hair from my face. “I’ll be back.”

I nodded, watching him walk away.

I had a feeling that something bad was about to happen.

Damien I stormed downstairs, my footsteps heavy with each step I took.“This better not be a waste of my time, Hugh,” I warned. Hugh stood at the foot of the stairs, with the usual smug expression on his face. As much as I wanted to be far away from him my need to see what this parcel was stopped me.The minute we arrived downstairs. Hugh motioned toward one of my men. The man stepped forward, holding a small wooden box. I narrowed my eyes, taking the box from him. It had my name written on the top and a single piece of twine tied around it. A bad feeling crept into my gut. I yanked the twine loose and flipped open the lid. Inside, a folded piece of paper sat atop something dark. I grabbed the note first, unfolding it with steady hands. My eyes skimmed over the words, and during that moment my jaw tightened."Consider this attack a warning. You were spared this time. Next time, you won’t be so lucky."I inhaled sharply before reaching back into the box. My fingers brushed agai

Alison Damien had been gone for days and each passing moment without him had felt heavy, like something inside me was missing. And when he finally returned, I thought I would feel relief. But instead, the moment I laid eyes on him, I knew something was wrong. His face was set to a hardened gaze. His jaw locked so tight it looked painful, and his eyes—those same eyes that had once burned with intensity when they looked at me—were cold and distant. Still, that didn’t stop me from approaching him. "You're back," I said softly, approaching him as he sat on the edge of his bed, his head in his hands. He didn't even look up. "Leave me alone, Alison." I was taken aback by his words but I didn’t let it show. I bit my lip, forcing a smile. "You look like hell, Damien. What happ—“ "I said, leave me alone." The sharpness in his tone made me shiver. My chest tightened, but I nodded, stepping away. I wouldn't try to gain his attention at least, not now. It was clear that he

Alison I had made up my mind. I was going to confront Damien once again. I hated this distance and the way he had shut me out so completely as if I meant nothing. Although, the way he had humiliated me in front of his men, still played on a loop in my mind. But despite the pain, despite the anger, I needed answers. I needed to understand why he was acting this way. So, the next morning, I made my way to his study. The heavy wooden door was closed, and something in my gut told me it was locked. Still, I lifted my fist and knocked. There was a moment of silence and followed by it was footsteps. The door creaked open, but it wasn’t Damien who stood there. It was Gemma. She leaned against the frame, with a smug smile curving her lips. "What do you want?" I swallowed the irritation rising in my throat. "I need to see Damien." Gemma let out a short laugh. "Damien doesn’t want to see you." My jaw clenched. "Let me pass, Gemma." She tilted her head."I can’t do that.

Alison A smirk took over my face as I walked down the hall. At each step I took all I could think of was how I was going to make sure I get back on track and help Aiden to get more information on Damien.“Alison!” Damien called out and I noticed that I had stopped walking.I picked up my steps, joining him in the car.The drive was suffocatingly silent. Damien hadn’t looked at me once. Not a single glance, and when he finally glanced my way he appeared irritated. That look made me feel emotions that I thought I had buried.“I didn’t want to feel this way,” I said to myself.I was meant to feel nothing, but from the looks of it the feeling had disappeared. Now, I felt everything.I forced myself to stare out the window, trying to block out those emotions. The roads grew quieter and darker the trees looked like shadows against the moonlight. There wasn’t any sign of any life form as we drove farther. Immediately after that realization hit me a strange feeling took over my gut. I want

Damien I stood there, the weight of my gun heavy in my hand, the barrel pointed straight at Alison. My finger hovered over the trigger, but my mind was elsewhere—dragged back to a week ago. That night had changed everything. I had arrived at the location my men told me about. It was a small home tucked away in the city. The moment I stepped inside, my eyes landed on Hugh. I didn’t waste time, I spilled everything that was in my mind. "You had no right to go against me," I said, my voice cold. "I told you to stay out of this investigation." Hugh sighed, standing up. "You need to stop acting like a damn fool, Damien. You should be thanking me for taking a bold step forward." “You doubled crossed me yet again. There’s nothing to thank you for.” He scoffed. “When you find out what I discovered you will be thanking me.” I narrowed my eyes. "What the hell are you talking about?" Hugh smirked. "I found the truth about your little lover." I clenched my jaw. "Why do you alw

AlisonI shook my head, taking a step back as if physical distance could make Damien’s words less real. “You’re lying,” I said in a shocking tone.Damien’s gaze sharpened. “I’m not.” “You expect me to believe that Aiden—my husband—has been lying to me all along?” My voice cracked at the last word. “That he’s the murderer and not you.”“Yes.” I crossed my arms, pressing my nails into my skin to keep myself steady. “Why should I trust you?” I spat. “You pointed a gun at my head, Damien. You were ready to pull the trigger.” “But I didn’t,” he countered smoothly. “That should tell you something.” I hate that he was right. “I know you are not going to believe what I said, but I have a way to prove it to you.” He said.Damien didn’t wait for me to process his words. Instead, he turned and walked toward the door, throwing one last glance over his shoulder. “You coming or not?” I stared at his retreating back, torn between the weight of my past and the uncertainty of my future

Alison I watched as Damien walked to the far side of the study, reaching for a shelf. My heart pounded as I watched him pull out an old, worn box and drop it onto the table between us. “The truth is all here.” He said. For a long second, I just stared at the box. My hands trembled as I finally reached forward and flipped the lid open. Inside were stacks of documents, old photographs, and yellowed papers covered in names I recognized—some I wished I didn’t. I began to sift through them, my breath growing shallower with every page. Aiden. His father. Shaking hands with cartel leaders. Documents bearing their surname, stamped with deals between Aiden and dangerous men. And then, my stomach twisted as I came across a familiar name. Alberto. So he lied. The room tilted slightly as I dug deeper, my fingers brushing against an old photograph. I pulled it out, my eyes widening at the sight of a younger Eric—Aiden’s father. He looked the same, just a bit younger, his expressi

Alison I shut the door behind me, my hands trembling as tears spilled down my face. This was the second time Aiden had hurt me so deeply. The first time had been the night he accused me of cheating on him—a night that still haunted me. I pressed my back against the door, sliding down until I was sitting on the cold floor, my knees pulled to my chest. I tried to fight the tears, but they kept coming, relentless, like a flood I couldn’t control. My emotions swung violently between pain and anger, my mind struggling to process everything. It was too much. My heart felt like it was being crushed under the weight of it all. Tilting my head back, I stared at the ceiling, whispering to myself. ‘Here I was, believing I had failed my father by leaving Damien, but I had already failed him the moment I agreed to Aiden’s plan—the moment I allowed myself to be tangled in his web of deceit.’A bitter laugh escaped me. Who was to say Aiden and his father hadn’t lied about my father’s dying

Damien I roamed around the house, trying to keep my mind busy, but no matter what I did, my mind kept drifting back to Alison. Was she okay? Had everything gone according to plan? The thought of her being near Aiden made my skin crawl. I let out a frustrated sigh and ran a hand through my hair. I knew Hugh had really worked hard on this plan, calculating every move, but something didn’t sit right with me. I had this nagging feeling that something terrible was going to happen. Without thinking, I stepped out of the house and headed toward the garage. My eyes landed on an old car I hadn’t driven in years. It was covered in a thin layer of dust, but I knew it would still run. I walked over, brushing my fingers along the hood before pulling the door open. “I hope this works,” I muttered under my breath. Sliding into the driver’s seat, I turned the key in the ignition. The engine roared to life, and despite everything, I couldn’t help but smile. Without wasting another second,

Alison Later the next day, Hugh brought out a bottle of whiskey and poured drinks for all of us. He lifted his glass with a smirk. “To us,” he said. Damien raised an eyebrow but didn’t pick up his glass. “Let’s not celebrate too soon.” Hugh rolled his eyes. “Come on, Damien. Have a little faith. Things are going to turn out just fine.” Damien scoffed, taking a slow sip from his glass. “That’s what you said last time we went up against Aiden. It didn’t exactly end well.” Hugh chuckled. “Touché.” He leaned back against the couch, stretching his legs out as he swirled the amber liquid in his glass. “You know, Alison, Damien wasn’t always the brooding, overprotective type. Back in the day, he was the one causing all the trouble.” I raised an eyebrow. “Oh really?” Damien let out a groan. “Hugh, don’t.” Hugh grinned, clearly enjoying himself. “Oh, I absolutely will.” He turned to me, his eyes gleaming with mischief. “There was this one time when we were kids—maybe fifteen

Alison Damien and I sat in the living room, the next day. While Hugh stood near a whiteboard, cigarette in hand, with a firm expression on his face. The faint scent of smoke curled around him as he flicked the ash onto the floor. Damien leaned back, eyeing the board. “I really want to know how you got that board.” Hugh exhaled a cloud of smoke. “Can we just focus on the plan?” Damien shrugged. “I’m just saying, it’s a little much.” Hugh rolled his eyes. “Noted but I’m not going to do anything about it.” Damien furrowed his eyebrows but Hugh seemed not to notice. He tapped the cigarette against a nearby ashtray. “Now, let’s get started. First off, thank you for joining in, Alison.” His eyes locked on mine. “I know you’ve been through hell because of Aiden, and I don’t expect you to join but I’m glad you did.” I swallowed hard, my nails digging into my palm. “You don’t need to thank me I’m just doing what’s right.” Hugh nodded. “Good. Anyway, I intend to keep this pl

Alison The moment I rolled to the other side of the bed and found out it was empty. I sat up, quickly.“Damien!” I said, after realizing he wasn’t by my side.‘Where did he go?’ I asked myself. He couldn’t be in the shower because I couldn’t hear the water running.I didn’t want to stay alone, so I threw the covers off my body and went to look for him as I made my way toward the door the voices I heard on the other side of the door stopped me in my tracks. It was Damien and Hugh. They happened to be arguing. I pressed my ear against the door, listening, and the more I listened the more I realized they weren’t arguing they were just talking with loud voices. “You have to choose Damien it’s either her or your grandfather’s contact. To me, both are necessary.” I heard Hugh say. “This isn’t the time to focus on emotions Damien. We need her!”There was a beat of silence before Damien spoke, in a tone that was lower and more controlled. “I’m trying to be considerate.” Hugh let ou

DamienThe minute I passed the sign that welcomed us to the city. I felt a bit relieved.I drove through the streets, with so much speed I couldn’t wait to get to my destination and relax. I was exhausted. When we finally pulled up to the house, I glanced at Alison. Her head was leaning against the window, her breathing soft and steady. She was barely keeping her eyes open. I reached over, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Come on,” I murmured. “Let’s get you inside.”She stirred slightly but didn’t argue when I helped her out of the car. Her body clung to me like a second skin as I guided her up the stairs. The moment we stepped into the house, she mumbled something incoherent, already half-asleep. I smiled. “Alright, let’s get you to bed.”I led her to the bedroom, pulled back the covers, and eased her onto the mattress. She barely moved as I tucked her in. As I turned to leave, her hand shot out, gripping my wrist weakly. “Please can you stay with me?”“I’m not goin

AlisonThe car jerked to a sudden halt, jolting me from the haze of exhaustion that had settled over me. My body felt heavy, and sore from hours of being bound and blindfolded. The minute the car opened, I felt the cold air hit my face first, carrying with it the distant sound of passing vehicles. Were we on a main road? A city? Was this where I die, before I could process my thoughts, a firm hand gripped my arm. A second later, I felt the ropes around my wrists being yanked loose. Then the blindfold came off. I blinked rapidly as light flooded my vision. When I finally saw who was standing in front of me, my breath caught in my throat. “Oh my God…”I could barely get the words out. It was Damien. He had saved me.My body moved before I could think—I threw myself at him, my arms wrapping around his torso, holding onto him as if I needed proof that he was real.“Damien!” I finally woke.He let out a small chuckle, as he wrapped his arms around me. “Surprised?” he murmured

Alison I pulled my eyes open and I realized I was blindfolded. The black piece of clothing on my face made it difficult for me to see where I was and my wrists bound so tightly behind my back made it hard for me to take off the stupid blindfold. The only sounds I could make out were the low grunts of the men who were moving me around. Where were they taking me? And where was I?Suddenly I was dropped. Pain shot through my body as I hit the hard, cold floor. A groan slipped past my lips, but I barely had time to process the discomfort before the sound of heavy boots retreating filled the air. I swallowed, my throat dry. “Hello?” My voice wavered. “Who’s there?” There was no answer. The silence that followed made me realize I was all alone.I lay still, with my chest rising and falling with panicked breaths. My heart pounded so loudly that it drowned out the quiet. I had no idea where I was. And worse—I had no idea who had me. Regret churned in my stomach. I shouldn’t

Damien The moment I stepped into the mansion, I was shocked when I noticed that everywhere was quiet. I had expected to hear gunfire, shouting, and some sign of life. But instead, the only thing that greeted me was death. Bodies of my men were lined the front of the mansion. My hands tightened around my gun as I stepped past them, my pulse roaring in my ears. Where the hell was Hugh? I moved cautiously through the hallway, my gun raised, and my eyes scanning every shadow."Hugh?" I called out, my voice bouncing off the empty walls. There was no answer. I increased my pace, moving deeper into the mansion. My mind was already thinking about the worst, that something terrible might have happened to Hugh. It was during that moment I heard a sound. It was faint at first but then it became loud, it sounded almost like a groan."Hugh!" I called again, following the noise. This time, I heard him clearly. “Here…” His voice was hoarse, coming from one of the rooms upstairs. I
