Alison

I shook my head, taking a step back as if physical distance could make Damien’s words less real.

“You’re lying,” I said in a shocking tone.

Damien’s gaze sharpened. “I’m not.”

“You expect me to believe that Aiden—my husband—has been lying to me all along?” My voice cracked at the last word. “That he’s the murderer and not you.”

“Yes.”

I crossed my arms, pressing my nails into my skin to keep myself steady. “Why should I trust you?” I spat. “You pointed a gun at my head, Damien. You were ready to pull the trigger.”

“But I didn’t,” he countered smoothly. “That should tell you something.”

I hate that he was right.

“I know you are not going to believe what I said, but I have a way to prove it to you.” He said.

Damien didn’t wait for me to process his words. Instead, he turned and walked toward the door, throwing one last glance over his shoulder.

“You coming or not?”

I stared at his retreating back, torn between the weight of my past and the uncertainty of my future. I also didn’t trust Damien but a part of me wanted to see if he was saying the truth.

With a deep breath, I followed him behind.

***

The air inside the car was suffocating.

Damien didn’t speak. His eyes were fixed on the road, as he drove. I was also very quiet.

I stole glances at him, trying to read his expression, but there was nothing. He kept his face stern and I felt he was trying to mask his emotions.

As I stared at him I wanted to ask him more questions. But the truth was, I was scared. Not of Damien.

I was scared of what I might learn.

My mind traveled to the way he had been acting toward me for a while now. I understood why he suddenly changed.

He had figured out the truth and he was hurt.

I tightened my grip on my lap, nails digging into my palm. “How long have you known?” I asked.

Damien’s eyes flickered to me for half a second before returning to the road. “A week.”

A week.

A whole damn week where he’s known everything and said nothing.

I swallowed the lump in my throat. “And you didn’t think to tell me?”

He exhaled sharply, shaking his head. “Would you have told me if you found out something so terrible about me?”

I had no answer for that.

“So you were just going to kill me?” I asked and he didn’t say anything.

The mansion appeared ahead, and my pulse spiked as the iron gates swung open.

Damien drove through, coming to a stop in front of the massive entrance. Before I could even unbuckle my seatbelt, the front doors burst open.

Hugh stormed toward us, and I noticed his face was covered in rage.

“What the hell, Damien? Why is she still alive?” Hugh’s voice was a snarl.

My stomach twisted as I watched his hand move towards his gun.

I tensed instinctively, ready to defend myself if I had to but Damien moved first.

“Aiden lied.”

Hugh halted mid-step, his brows pulling together. “What?”

Damien stepped out of the car, slamming the door shut. “She wasn’t betraying us on her own. She only followed Aiden’s orders because she thought I killed her father. She didn’t know he was the one feeding her lies.”

Hugh scoffed. “That doesn’t change the fact that she’s a spy. That she’s been working against us—”

“Cut her some slack,” Damien interrupted. “We have both been a victim of this same circumstance.”

Hugh’s eyes narrowed, but he didn’t argue. Instead, he glared at me, his lips curling in distaste before stepping aside.

Damien turned to me. “Come with me.”

I hesitated. But only for a second before I picked up my steps.

The walls of the mansion felt like they were closing in as I followed Damien down the corridors. The whole Manson felt different and quite suffocating.

Damien’s men watched me with a stern gaze and I noticed their hands were resting on their weapons.

They didn’t trust me.

Hell, I didn’t trust me either.

Damien stopped in front of a heavy wooden door that belonged to the study.

He pushed it open without hesitation and stepped inside. I followed with my heart still hammering in my chest.

Damien gestured toward a chair. “Sit.”

I didn’t. Instead, I crossed my arms. “Where’s the proof?”

Damien lets out a humorless chuckle, rubbing a hand over his jaw. He leaned against the desk, his piercing eyes locked on me.

“There’s a lot I'm going to show you,” he began. “I hope you are going to be able to handle everything.”

I shifted my weight, and my arms were still crossed watching him closely as he

pushed himself off the desk, stepping closer. His presence was overwhelming, but I held my ground.

“There’s something else you need to know,” he said, and followed by his words was a pause.

“What’s that?”

“Aiden and I are stepbrothers.” He finally said.

The words crashed over me like a tidal wave. My knees almost buckle.

My breathing slowed and my mind scrambled during that moment. “That’s not—” I shook my head. “That doesn’t make any sense.”

“It does,” Damien said. “It’s also very true.”

“How’s that even possible?” I asked. “You don’t even look alike and I have never seen you with him or in his family portrait or anywhere in his home.”

He took another step forward, his gaze burning into mine. “There are certain things they hid from you, Alison.”

I flinched as if I’d been slapped. “You’re lying.”

He didn’t blink. “I wish I was.”

My head was spinning. “No. No, Aiden would have told me—”

“Aiden wouldn’t…” my voice trailed off.

Damien scoffed. “Wouldn’t what? Lie to you? Manipulate you?” He shook his head. “You have no idea who he is, Alison. But I do.”

I squeezed my eyes shut.

I wanted to scream at Damien telling him that was wrong. But deep down, something told me he wasn’t. I opened my eyes, forcing myself to meet his gaze.

“Prove it.”

Damien smirked. “Gladly.”

The room felt colder now. I had this feeling the truth was going to hurt more than the lies ever did.

Alison I watched as Damien walked to the far side of the study, reaching for a shelf. My heart pounded as I watched him pull out an old, worn box and drop it onto the table between us. “The truth is all here.” He said. For a long second, I just stared at the box. My hands trembled as I finally reached forward and flipped the lid open. Inside were stacks of documents, old photographs, and yellowed papers covered in names I recognized—some I wished I didn’t. I began to sift through them, my breath growing shallower with every page. Aiden. His father. Shaking hands with cartel leaders. Documents bearing their surname, stamped with deals between Aiden and dangerous men. And then, my stomach twisted as I came across a familiar name. Alberto. So he lied. The room tilted slightly as I dug deeper, my fingers brushing against an old photograph. I pulled it out, my eyes widening at the sight of a younger Eric—Aiden’s father. He looked the same, just a bit younger, his expressi

Alison I shut the door behind me, my hands trembling as tears spilled down my face. This was the second time Aiden had hurt me so deeply. The first time had been the night he accused me of cheating on him—a night that still haunted me. I pressed my back against the door, sliding down until I was sitting on the cold floor, my knees pulled to my chest. I tried to fight the tears, but they kept coming, relentless, like a flood I couldn’t control. My emotions swung violently between pain and anger, my mind struggling to process everything. It was too much. My heart felt like it was being crushed under the weight of it all. Tilting my head back, I stared at the ceiling, whispering to myself. ‘Here I was, believing I had failed my father by leaving Damien, but I had already failed him the moment I agreed to Aiden’s plan—the moment I allowed myself to be tangled in his web of deceit.’A bitter laugh escaped me. Who was to say Aiden and his father hadn’t lied about my father’s dying

Damien I woke up to the sound of footsteps echoing in the quiet corridor. My body was stiff, my back aching from sleeping on the hard stone floor outside Alison’s door. As I lifted my head, my vision blurred for a moment before clearing to reveal Hugh standing over me with a firm expression on his face. “Knew I’d find you here,” he said, shaking his head slightly. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, stretching my shoulders before replying. “Why do you sound like that’s a bad thing?” Hugh furrowed his brows. “It’s not. Come with me I have something important to discuss.” I sighed, but I stood, cracking my neck as I followed him down the hallway. “What’s this about?” “Aiden,” Hugh said. That one name was enough to drain the last remnants of sleep from my mind. My steps quickened, and by the time we reached the study, I was fully awake. Hugh shut the door behind us and turned to face me. “He knows about our plan,” Hugh said gravely. I scoffed. “Obviously. He had a

Alison The first thing I heard was the screams. It was loud, piercing, and frantic. I pulled myself upright, my heart hammering against my ribs as I staggered toward the window. My breath caught in my throat when I saw them—a group of men, dressed in dark clothing, armed with guns, storming into the mansion grounds. I felt scared. A gunshot rang out, and before I could react, a bullet shattered the glass in front of me. I gasped, stumbling backward just as shards of glass rained onto the floor. Oh my god. My pulse pounded in my ears, drowning out everything else. I crouched low, pressing myself against the wall. Another shot tore through the air, this time embedding itself into the wooden floor a few feet away from me. I was trapped. The mansion was under attack. I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to suppress the rising terror, my hands trembling against the cold floor. Then, amidst the chaos, I heard a familiar voice. "Alison! Open the door!" Damien. Damien The moment I stepped into the mansion, I was shocked when I noticed that everywhere was quiet. I had expected to hear gunfire, shouting, and some sign of life. But instead, the only thing that greeted me was death. Bodies of my men were lined the front of the mansion. My hands tightened around my gun as I stepped past them, my pulse roaring in my ears. Where the hell was Hugh? I moved cautiously through the hallway, my gun raised, and my eyes scanning every shadow."Hugh?" I called out, my voice bouncing off the empty walls. There was no answer. I increased my pace, moving deeper into the mansion. My mind was already thinking about the worst, that something terrible might have happened to Hugh. It was during that moment I heard a sound. It was faint at first but then it became loud, it sounded almost like a groan."Hugh!" I called again, following the noise. This time, I heard him clearly. “Here…” His voice was hoarse, coming from one of the rooms upstairs. I

Alison Later the next day, Hugh brought out a bottle of whiskey and poured drinks for all of us. He lifted his glass with a smirk. “To us,” he said. Damien raised an eyebrow but didn’t pick up his glass. “Let’s not celebrate too soon.” Hugh rolled his eyes. “Come on, Damien. Have a little faith. Things are going to turn out just fine.” Damien scoffed, taking a slow sip from his glass. “That’s what you said last time we went up against Aiden. It didn’t exactly end well.” Hugh chuckled. “Touché.” He leaned back against the couch, stretching his legs out as he swirled the amber liquid in his glass. “You know, Alison, Damien wasn’t always the brooding, overprotective type. Back in the day, he was the one causing all the trouble.” I raised an eyebrow. “Oh really?” Damien let out a groan. “Hugh, don’t.” Hugh grinned, clearly enjoying himself. “Oh, I absolutely will.” He turned to me, his eyes gleaming with mischief. “There was this one time when we were kids—maybe fifteen

The faint scent of smoke curled around him as he flicked the ash onto the floor. Damien leaned back, eyeing the board. “I really want to know how you got that board.” Hugh exhaled a cloud of smoke. “Can we just focus on the plan?” Damien shrugged. “I’m just saying, it’s a little much.” Hugh rolled his eyes. “Noted but I’m not going to do anything about it.” Damien furrowed his eyebrows but Hugh seemed not to notice. He tapped the cigarette against a nearby ashtray. “Now, let’s get started. First off, thank you for joining in, Alison.” His eyes locked on mine. “I know you’ve been through hell because of Aiden, and I don’t expect you to join but I’m glad you did.” I swallowed hard, my nails digging into my palm. “You don’t need to thank me I’m just doing what’s right.” Hugh nodded. “Good. Anyway, I intend to keep this pl

It was Damien and Hugh. They happened to be arguing. I pressed my ear against the door, listening, and the more I listened the more I realized they weren’t arguing they were just talking with loud voices. “You have to choose Damien it’s either her or your grandfather’s contact. To me, both are necessary.” I heard Hugh say. “This isn’t the time to focus on emotions Damien. We need her!”There was a beat of silence before Damien spoke, in a tone that was lower and more controlled. “I’m trying to be considerate.” Hugh let ou
