Selena entered Julian’s office with a steaming cup of coffee, carefully placing it on his desk. She half-expected his usual sharp critique or, at the very least, his cold indifference.

Instead, he glanced up from the document he was reading and said, “Thank you.”

The two simple words froze her mid-step. She blinked, her mind racing. Had she misheard him? Julian Grant thanking someone?

Still, she managed to recover quickly and replied, “You’re welcome,” before turning to leave.

“Wait,” his voice stopped her in her tracks, smooth and commanding.

Selena sighed inwardly and turned back toward him. “Yes?”

Julian leaned back in his chair, his piercing gaze studying her for a moment before he casually said, “I wanted to inform you that I’ll be working through the weekend. There’s some business to attend to with the sister company.”

Selena raised an eyebrow, already suspicious. “What does that have to do with me?”

“You’ll need to be available,” Julian replied smoothly. “Isn't it a part of your job to follow me everywhere?”

Her shoulders slumped as she sighed in exasperation. “I can’t work on the weekend.”

He tilted his head, his expression almost amused. “Oh? And why is that?”

“I have plans,” she said shortly, hoping that would end the conversation.

Julian stood from his chair, his towering frame instantly commanding her attention. He rounded the desk, closing the distance between them with deliberate slowness. Selena instinctively stepped back but stopped herself, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing her intimidated.

Julian stopped just in front of her, his hand reaching up to brush a loose strand of her hair behind her ear.

“Plans, hmm?” he murmured, his voice low and teasing. “Busy, are we? Busy doing what, I wonder?”

Selena’s jaw clenched, her glare sharp enough to cut through steel. “That’s none of your business,” she snapped, swatting his hand away from her face.

His smirk only deepened as he ignored her protest and continued, this time gently tugging at the ends of her hair. “Perhaps you’re meeting someone special?” His voice dropped, dripping with mock curiosity. “A secret lover, maybe?”

Selena’s eyes widened briefly before narrowing into a glare. “Stop imagining shit on your own,” she hissed, shoving his hand away again. “I’m going to meet my father and my sister.”

Julian stilled, his teasing demeanor evaporating. His eyes bore into hers, and his tone turned icy. “And who gave you permission to leave?”

Selena’s stomach sank, but she didn’t back down. “I don’t need your permission.”

His expression darkened, and he took a step closer, crowding her space. “Don’t you?” he asked, his voice dangerously low. “Have you forgotten the terms of our marriage? You don’t just walk out when it suits you, Selena. Not without my approval.”

Selena’s fists clenched at her sides. “You can’t control every aspect of my life, Julian,” she spat, her frustration bubbling over.

“Oh, can’t I?” His voice was almost a whisper now, but the intensity in his eyes made her breath hitch. “You signed the papers, Selena. And I intend to hold you to every single word.”

Her face burned with a mix of anger and embarrassment. “I will go meet them. Stop me if you can.”

Julian smirked, unsatisfied, but didn’t say a word as he stepped back, giving her space.

Selena turned on her heel, storming out of his office. As she walked away, she muttered under her breath, “Control freak.”

Julian heard her, of course, but instead of reacting, he allowed a small smile to curve his lips. “This weekend just got more interesting,” he thought, watching her retreating figure.

Selena had hoped to escape Julian’s suffocating presence and cool her boiling anger in her favorite spot—the quiet garden at the back of the company. It had become her sanctuary over the last few days, a hidden escape from the chaos of the office and Julian’s incessant torment.

But as she turned the corner and entered the garden, her steps froze.

Her eyes widened in shock as she took in the scene before her. Cassandra, the ever-poised and confident actress, was locked in a passionate kiss with a man—a man who wasn’t her rumored boyfriend.

Selena blinked, unable to process what she was seeing. Cassandra’s perfectly manicured hands were tangled in the man’s hair, and his arms were wrapped tightly around her waist. They were so engrossed in each other that they hadn’t noticed Selena standing there, rooted to the spot like a deer caught in headlights.

“What the...?” Selena whispered to herself, her voice barely audible.

The sound, faint as it was, seemed to pierce the moment. Cassandra suddenly pulled away, her eyes darting toward Selena. The man turned too, revealing a sharp, handsome face that Selena vaguely recognized. He was one of the producers from the sister company.

For a moment, there was a tense silence as the three of them stared at each other.

Cassandra recovered quickly, her expression morphing from surprise to nonchalance. She adjusted her dress and crossed her arms, as if daring Selena to say something.

“Selena,” Cassandra said, her tone calm but laced with warning. “What are you doing here?”

Selena blinked again, her brain struggling to catch up. “I... This is... my usual spot,” she stammered, still staring at them. “I didn’t mean to interrupt.”

The man cleared his throat awkwardly and stepped back, straightening his suit. “I’ll, uh, give you two some space,” he mumbled before quickly retreating, leaving Cassandra and Selena alone.

Cassandra sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. “Well, this is awkward.”

Selena finally snapped out of her daze, her shock giving way to curiosity. “Awkward? Cassandra, you were—” She gestured wildly toward where the man had just disappeared. “What was that?”

Cassandra shrugged, her lips curving into a sly smile. “A little fun, that’s all.”

“Fun?” Selena repeated incredulously. “You were practically eating his face!”

Cassandra rolled her eyes. “Oh, don’t be so dramatic. It’s not like you’ve never kissed anyone before.”

Selena crossed her arms, her brows furrowing. “That’s not the point. Isn’t he a producer? Isn’t this... inappropriate?”

Cassandra’s smile faltered for a moment, but then she shrugged again. “He’s single, I’m single. What’s the harm?”

Selena stared at her, trying to process her blasé attitude. “You’re unbelievable,” she muttered.

Cassandra chuckled, leaning against the garden bench. “You’re just jealous.”

“Jealous?” Selena scoffed. “Of what?”

Cassandra smirked. “That I’m living my life while you’re stuck playing secretary for Julian Grant. Tell me, how’s that going for you? Still getting yelled at every ten minutes?”

Selena bristled, her cheeks heating. “Better than sneaking around and... and doing whatever it is you’re doing!”

Cassandra laughed, genuinely amused. “Oh, Selena, you’re so innocent sometimes. Trust me, the industry isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do,” she gestured vaguely toward where the producer had gone.

Selena frowned, her stomach twisting uncomfortably. “Huh?”

Cassandra’s smile softened, and for a moment, she looked almost sad. “You’ll understand eventually. The world isn’t as black and white as you think it is. Especially not this world.”

Before Selena could respond, Cassandra pushed off the bench and started walking toward the building. She paused at the garden’s entrance and glanced back over her shoulder.

“By the way, you might want to keep this little... encounter to yourself. For your own good.”

And with that, she disappeared, leaving Selena standing alone in the garden, more confused and unsettled than ever.
