Chapter 6: Dinner Time

last update Last Updated: 2023-07-23 03:12:26

"Hey Link" I said, dragging out his name as I leaned against the doorframe.

"I thought you had to leave," he stated with his eyebrows furrowed as he looked at me confused.

"I was but I'm here" I said, shrugging my shoulders while I looked up at him.

"You locked your door" he said suddenly and I nodded at the observation.

"I did," I said in a matter of fact tone.

"Are you mad at me?" he asked while looking down a bit nervous that I was gonna tell someone about what was going on.

"Why would I be mad at you?" I asked and his eyes widened in relief.

"Can I come in?" he asked and I took a deep breath before shaking my head.

"I don't know if that's the best idea" I said and he sent me a fake pout while stepping forward.

"Please" he said, reaching out to grab me but I moved back a bit while letting out a sigh in annoyance.

But without me responding he went right past me into the room "Link" I said in a stern tone as I turned around.

"You shouldn't be in here, I do not want to listen to some fucking lecture" I growled out starting to complain as he walked up next to me closing the door shut and encase me in his arms.

"Not if they don't know" he whispered in a sultry tone while leaning in a bit so his lips were close to mine.

"Honey Julian practically has eyes in the back of his head" I said while ducking under his arms and moving away from the door.

A small click was heard causing me to sigh before biting down on my bottom lip.

"Not if it's quiet," he said from behind me, his hand gently running up my arm causing me to smile.

"Oh baby" I said with a chuckle while turning to look at him "you won't be able to be quiet" I stated in a dark tone causing him to take a breath.

“Who said I was the one that would be loud” he chuckled darkly as he trailed his hands across my skin.

"Come on Amara" he said while causing my heart rate to increase at the sight of innocence in his eyes, but this small part in me knew it was all a front a way to hide something else to get what he wanted but it was so damn tempting.

"We can't," I stated while pulling his hand off of me.

"You need to go" I said while stepping to open the door.

He grabs my arm almost in desperation "why can't we" he whispered.

And I looked at him in confusion "because we're supposed to be siblings now" I stated and he rolled his eyes.

"So what" he said and I scoffed.

"God you're needy" I said and his eyes widened as he straightened his back up to look down at me, his eyes darker, colder than before.

"Is it because you like Rue more than me?" he asked, causing me to laugh.

"Aw, are you jealous?" I said in a teasing tone while leaning closer to him.

"I never said I liked any of you" I stated before opening the door and pushing him out of my room.

Standing there Julian walks out of his room to see Link's disappointed face.

He smiles slightly, almost proud before he shakes it off showing no emotion "it's time to eat dinner" he stated and my eyes widened in surprise.

"What" I ask clearly confused.

"It's time to eat dinner," he said again, this time enunciating his words like I was slow causing me to scoff and cross my arms up over his chest.

"There's no way," I said, pulling out my phone to see it was 7:06 "holy shit" I mumbled.

"You woke up late, and we haven't seen you for hours" Julian stated and I nodded my head.

"I guess time just passed me by" I said and he nodded cockily before turning to walk downstairs.

"Well come on you haven't eaten all day you have to be hungry" Julian stated as Jace came out to pull Link down the stairs with him.

Ru stepped out of his room while sending me a little glare causing me to roll my eyes.

"What's wrong, ice prince" I ask while grabbing his hand to pull him back towards me.

"Nothing" he stated stiffly, slightly tilting his head up as he looked down at me to be more intimidating.

"Oh come on, I can see it" I stated cockily.

"See what" he said leaning down a bit becoming annoyed.

"Your anger, frustration" I said while leaning in closer to him causing him to straighten back up.

"I'm not angry" he stated and I rolled my eyes.

"Let's go eat, we're having spaghetti" he said and I nodded.

"I'd rather eat something else though" I whispered in his ear to tease him, before walking down the stairs.

Heading into the dinning room I sit down next to Jace like I did yesterday.

Ru was right we are having spaghetti "thank you for dinner" I said politely.

During dinner everyone was quiet for the most part making everything stiff and awkward.

The thing that caught my attention was the foot that suddenly hit my leg as I was taking a bite.

Looking up I see Link smirking at me causing me to hold in a sigh, how the hell am I supposed to stop myself when it comes to this guy, I thought as I continued to eat.

“I hope you all enjoyed your day together” Mr. Pierce said while smiling at us.

“Are they treating you right Amara” he asked and I laughed while nodding my head.

“Yes, all of your sons seem to be quite the gentleman” I said and he smiled almost proudly but soon after we all went back to silence before we were all dismissed.

Walking upstairs I go to the bathroom before walking back into my room to find my mother standing there with her arms crossed over her chest.

"Mother" I whispered bowing my head down in respect before looking back up.

My door was open behind her but the others were all closed so I knew no one would see anything even with the access that was left and she knew that too.

"How was work?" she asked and my eyes widened in fake surprise and confusion.

"What are you talking about?" I ask and she scoffs, stepping closer towards me.

"You didn't do what I said" she stated venom lacing her tone.

"I talked to both Link and Ru" I said softly trying not to anger her but she let out a fake laugh.

"Where were you all day?" she asked and I motioned around me.

"Here" I stated and she rolled her eyes.

"Doesn't matter" she started shaking her head "you still didn't do exactly what I said" she said a crazed look running through her eyes as she stared at me.

"Mother I tried, I swear I tried" I said while taking a small step back in defense.

"Aw you tried" she said in mock pity as she stepped forward.

She slapped me roughly across the face, my head moving full force to the side as the sound of skin hitting skin echoed through my room.

"You didn't try hard enough" she spat before grabbing my arm and dragging me in front of her fully, my body now hunched down as she stared at me.

Her grip on my wrist was rough as she spoke "you’re lucky we're here otherwise this would be much worse" she spat.

"Yes ma'am, sorry ma'am" I whisper while looking her in the eyes.

She looks at me with light disgust before walking away.

The metallic taste in my mouth and the sting on my cheek and wrist is what I was left with as she walked down the hall to her own room.

Her heels clacking on the way as I looked over to see Jace causing my eyes to widen.

How the hell did my mother not realize he was standing right there, I questioned myself in surprise.

His eyes were wide in surprise as I walked towards the door, his mouth slightly agape after what he had just witnessed.

"Are you" he started to ask but I cut him off in a dark tone.

"You will speak of this to no one" I stated before closing my door and locking it.

“How the fuck do I explain that” I ask myself as I heard a lack in movement and a door close.

After getting ready for bed and doing what I could to dress my wounds I lay down in bed to read my book. My door opens quietly causing me to look up at the sound to see Link stand there his arms crossed over his chest causing me to stand up confused at his sudden appearance. “What are you doing here?” I ask clearly defensive and mirroring his stance and he just scoffs before turning to close and lock the door behind him. “It’s my fucking house” he stated and I just raised an eyebrow, the guy that pretended to be sweet and innocent was finally showing his true colors because he was pissed off he hadn’t gotten his dick wet. “It’s my fucking room” I stated back and he walked towards me before roughly grabbing my arm. “I don’t fucking care, how dare you tease me push me away don’t you know how lucky you are that I want you” he growled out and I rolled my eyes. “You mean you want easy access to pussy when you feel needy” I stated rolling my eyes and ripping my arms out of his hold.

Loud banging, all that could be heard was loud fucking banging; sitting up I glare at my door hearing more bangs after more bangs. “Go away” I yelled, moving to lay back down but I heard a frustrated growl and a groan from next to me causing my body to stop its movement. Looking over I see Link and my eyes widen, shit, oh wait no I didn’t sleep with him, thank god. He moves closer to me in his sleep, his arm moving around my waist and the banging from the door continues causing a whole lot of anger to course through my veins. If it was mother there would have been loud screaming and threats, I also doubt Mr. Pierce is the type to repeated bang on a door or allow it so my only guess is the engaged couple has left earlier this morning and this is none other then one of my other new fucking step-brothers deciding to wreak havoc early in the morning. “Fucking hell I can hear you, quit banging you asshole” I yell throwing Links arm off of me causing him to shift and stare at me as I w

The footsteps sounded coming down the hall and I straightened up in my seat throwing on a soft smile which caused Julian to raise an eyebrow at me, but I ignored his questioning stare. When the footsteps stop we all look back to the door to see Mr. Pierce smiling “good morning, sorry we had to leave so early” he laughed while moving towards his seat at the table. “Your mother went up to bed Amara, she’s been weirdly tired lately” he said looking a bit in thought and inside I wanted to laugh at his statement but instead all that passes my lips is a light hum. “I would like it if the two of us talked, got to know each other a bit more, and maybe did lunch for you, me and the boys” he said in a questioning tone and I looked over at him with the smile on my face still present. “Really?” I ask with a small laugh “well I think that would be nice Mr. Pierce” I said respectfully and a smile broke out on his face and I watched him nod. “Alright, why don’t you finish breakfast and then mee

Standing up I stretch my arms above my head causing my back to pop and me to let out a satisfied groan at the release of my joints. Deciding to keep the long sleeve shirt on I change into a pair of plain black jeans, not needing to be real fancy for the restaurant making me feel slightly relieved along with the fact that my mother wouldn’t be going making some of the pressure fall from my shoulders. Walking into the bathroom I put my hair up into a ponytail before checking my face, I didn’t put makeup on this morning but my hair was down and covering most of my face and anything would probably be chalked up to a shadow if it was seen but if anyone realized anything nothing was said. The marks weren’t too bad, the fingerprints on my face were barely present but the bruises were there nonetheless, the mark of my mothers slap last night was closer to my ear so no one had realized it. Pulling out some concealer I begin putting it on my marks and blending it in with the rest of my skin

The next day came rather quickly leading me to where I am now, sitting in a boutique watching my mother try on wedding dress after wedding dress even though she has about six at home. When I brought that up she yelled at me, saying it was bad luck to wear the same wedding dress that was used for a previous collapsed marriage, but maybe if she stopped marrying men for their money it wouldn’t always be so bad. The boys had their tuxes fitted in another room until they were allowed in with us as well, all spread out across the room on the giant couches while I sat leaned forward on a separate chair my legs spread out a bit wearing black slacks and a blue blouse to look presentable as my mother put it. She stated before we left that if I wasn’t going to wear a dress I had to at least not look like a rat that had crawled out of the sewers trying to steal a diamond on its way across town so that I wouldn’t cover it in shit. Basically meaning if I didn’t look the part I would be a disgra

“The dress is nice” he whispered, stepping up behind me and grabbing my hair to move it over my shoulder to get full access to the back of the dress. “Please don’t tell anyone” I whispered and I watched him take a deep breath behind me as he pulled the zipper up his fingers lightly touching my skin as he went, sending a shiver up my spine. “I won’t I promise” he stated in full seriousness as he pulled my hair off my shoulder and smiled at the reflection in front of us. “You truly look beautiful though, scars and all” he whispered and I took a deep breath, a weird fluttering in my chest at his words. “Thank you” I whispered and he smiled as I looked at the dress falling over my body, it was a deep maroon shade the breasts were lightly exposed with a criss cross pattern over it the lining falling into a v-shape but not too low. The dress was long hitting the ground around me but there was a long slit on the right leg leading up close to my hip, it was exposing but not in a bad way

Hours passed, practicing places for seating and looking at the venue before going home and discussing the seating arrangement and the guest list for the fiftieth time making every part of me scream for an escape. By the time dinner came my mother was late doing something up stairs as the rest of us waited sitting at the table in an awkward silence until Mr. Pierce cleared his throat and turned his attention towards me. “Did you find a good dress for tomorrow?” he asked, trying to make small talk. “I did, thank you, the people there were very nice as well” I stated with a smile and his eyes widened. “Really? Your mother said it was the worst service she ever got” he said with an airy laugh and I nodded. “Mom’s not known for her patience, but for her meticulous nature” I said and he nodded along with my words. “And you boys, the tux’s fit well” he asked and all of the guys nodded in reply leaving us in silence as heels clicked from down the hall making there way to the dinning room

Checking the time I let out a large groan, knowing that within the next few hours I had to be walking my mother down the aisle, again. Pulling myself out of bed I throw my hair up real quick, a messing bun now on top of my head a few strands dangling here and there before putting on a bra and a large shirt as I walk to my door and head to the room next to mine on the left side of the hallway. Yawning I knock on the door “Jace” I call out expecting him to already be awake but after waiting a moment I get no response so I knock again this time a loud bang follows from inside the room and I hear a groan in pain causing me to let out a sigh. Slowly opening the door I see him partially wrapped in blankets on the ground, twisted round the lower half of his body and he lays there, his face planted onto the ground and his hair falling all over the place. Crossing my arms I step close “you alive” I ask and he grunts his body slightly moving before he stops again and the room goes silent.

Over the course of the last few days Jace has been learning his best how to walk again, the numb feeling he said was the worst. The way when he took a step it would flicker from feeling nothing at all to feeling intense pain causing him to let out a small scream from the pressure. During this time period Julian has become ten times more protective over him, basically staying awake all night and day at his bed side so that no matter what Jace needs he'd get it. We sat through many levels of fustration as well. The screams of anger from him not being able to move correctly or him trying to hide the tears in his eyes from too much pain. And gods was he stubborn, never wanting to take a break, forcfully trying to push past every bit of pain to get back to how he should be, good enough to go into the fight. Everyone in the house was worried at his mental state as the days had gone by, the way he'd look basically past you so you couldn't stop him. He had been irritable too and that's

I scrunch my nose up and look away from him causing him to let out a small grunt before tickling my side causing my body to move on instinct a laugh ripping from my throat as I attempt to move his hands away from me.
