Chapter 5: Take Him Away!

Rameric's POV:

This could not have come at a worse time.  The slaves all knew they were sold into slavery to a fierce werewolf pack, which meant certain doom, or they were soon to find out what they were up against in the odds against their new rulers.  The fact they all found out in this particular manner, was just a faster way of finding out that their bad dreams at night and horror stories they told their children to keep them in line, are not just dreams and talk but an actual reality.  Humans knew of our existence, however for them to see one shift in front of their eyes is not an everyday occurrence.  I stood up, shifting back as I now stood there, hovering over the two of them, naked.  At that moment, my personal Warriors rushed upon the pen and surrounded us completely.  In a way, there was an inner circle keeping a distance from the slaves in the small pen.

“Take him away!” Galien commanded, walking up to us and through the ring of Warriors while handing me a shawl to shroud my naked view from others.

I turned my attention back to my unexpected and newly found mate, coughing violently from her apparent attack.  I knelt down beside her, paying close attention to her as she lay there on the ground.  She was barely coming around as she tried to roll away from me onto her side.  I had no doubt she was not aware of the fact I was now only inches from her.  Even if she was aware of my presence, she would not know who I was anyway.  It was evident she was still trying to recover from almost losing her now conscience state of things.

Against my better judgment, I reached forward, starting to gently place one arm behind her back, while I slowly placed the other arm behind her knees.  I stopped and held my position for a moment as I thought about what was about to happen.  I was not sure what was going to happen when my skin came in contact with hers.  I thought about the clothes being a simple barrier to keep the initial Mate Contact separate, but the clothing she was clothed in was so thin and in poor condition, that I was surprised it even kept her skin underneath hidden.  I decided to move forward with my plan and quickly, yet cautiously pick her up off the ground.  Now, what was I going to do with her in my arms?

As I looked at her face, her eyes were closed as she was still recovering.  As I turned to take my first step, she rolled to the side, placing her head firmly on my chest right next to my swift racing heart.  I radiated heat and I could feel her cold and clammy skin, even through her thin clothing.  There is no telling the last time she actually had a proper bath, as she smells worse than a wet dog.  There was a lot I would have to look into, the first being, as to why this weak and insignificant human happened to be my fated Mate.

I continued to walk out of the pen with her in my arms.  I did not stop walking till I was at my carriage.  The door was opened up for me and I stepped in, still delicately holding her in my arms as I took a seat in the center of the bench that faced forward.  I usually sat on the side so I could look out as we traveled.  However, this time, with her legs hanging over, I did not want to harm her more than her ordeal.  I was still furious about the fact that she was my mate, but I figured there was more to it.

If she, in the face of great adversity, would risk everything to save someone else in the same position, with nothing to gain from it, that meant she had a fighting spirit.  I would see where this goes, even if for now, unless I find out there are castings at work, then I would get a chance to deal with the other parties involved.  When we finally managed to reach my castle, the door was opened up for me and Galien was there as well.

"Have the menials draw a bath for me," I said as I ascended the steps to the castle.

"As you command, My Alpha Caine," Galien said as we reached the main doors of my castle.

I walked inside and off in the direction of my personal chambers while Galien went off in a different direction, no doubt to have the menials do as I had commanded.  I did not want to bother dealing with anything else, except for that which I was carrying at that moment.  When I finally reached my chamber doors, they were opened by the Warrior guards standing post and I went in with no words being said.  She was still lying in my arms without moving and with her eyes still closed.  Was she sleeping or did she just pass out due to the overwhelming stress she had ensured in such a short amount of time?  Did she even know what was happening to her right now?  I continued walking over to the side of my padded slumber, lying her down on the soft material.  I took a step back as I contemplated what had happened.

I turned to leave the room when I heard a noise coming from behind me, which caused me to immediately spin on my heels.  When I turned to look back at her, she was no longer lying there but sat up and was now staring back at me.  There was not a great distance between us, but the pull in my chest was very evident as she was my intended mate.  I still could not believe this as fact, even though it was literally staring me in the face.  Before I had a chance to say a word to her, I heard a knock at my door.  I could not help the growl that overcame me, as I growled loudly as to the disturbance at that very moment.  She whimpered, cowering on the bed, wrapping her arms around her legs, as I turned to rush toward the door, to yell at the cause of this disturbance.

"What is the meaning of this?" I shouted as I opened the door.

"Your bath is ready," said the frightened menial.
