CHAPTER 15: SHOWDOWN

"That'll be $8.63, Eddie," I inform Edward, also known as Eddie, as he approaches the counter with six French macaroons.

Eddie, a local senior citizen residing just a few streets away from the marketplace, is a cherished customer. He has been a regular visitor ever since Deborah and Lisa first opened one of their numerous branches. His order has always been consistent: six pistachio-flavored French macarons.

Without fail, Eddie consistently declares that pistachio-flavored macarons are the finest creations since the debut of Mike and Ikes candies in 1940. This day was no exception.

"I've been saying it every day, and I'll say it again: pistachio macarons are the best thing since Mike and Ikes hit the scene in 1940," Eddie states, handing over a ten-dollar bill.

"Eh, Sour Patch Kids hold that distinction for me," I respond with a playful grin as I prepare to give him his change, prompting a light-hearted chuckle from him.

"Ah, that's right, you're into that sweet and sour stuff," Eddie
