Madison's POV

"There is absolutely no possible way," I sputtered, letting my eyes run through the words again and again.

"I thought so too. That's from the College Registrar's desk though. It's legit. It has their house style, and Devon Greenwood's official stamp. Legit through and through," Rose leaned on the desk, pointing at the letter. She wasn't wrong. Devon Greenwood was really the college Registrar.

"You need to contact the school as soon as possible," I looked up at her as I put the papers back in the envelope, "There must be a mix-up, a mistake or something from their end."

"I'll send out an email today," Rose nodded, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. I smiled up at her, giving her a reassuring smile. Rose always worked with so much tenacity, sometimes I feared I didn't give her enough credit.

I ran my hands through my hair and let out a frustrating sigh. My mind was racing, this situation made absolutely no sense. To keep a position at the company, you had to have al

Madison’s POVI brought the phone from my ear and looked at the caller ID again, baffled by the audacity of this man.“What’s this about, Tyler?” I simply asked, not wanting to sound rude. I dug the fork into my pasta again, about to take the next bite of food.“You left the house without telling your destination? Really, Maddison?”I rolled my eyes, “I’m not a child. I am a grown adult. I have every right to move on my own accord.”“When you’re in such a condition? I don’t think so, Maddy,” He retorted. Tyler has never been one to take orders from anyone or have his orders refuted. I hated it.“What’s that supposed to mean?” I clicked my tongue against my cheek. Everyone seemed to love reminding me about my problems and quite frankly, it was getting annoying to me.“You’re carrying a child, Maddison,” He pointed out, then emphasised, “Our child. You can’t keep going around like you’re a free spirit all the time.”“Fine. I was at the company, happy? It was urgent business so get off m

Madison's POV“Andy,” My lips trembled slightly as my eyes prickled with tears threatening to form. I let my figure lean on his and wrap my arms around his waist, crying softly into his chest.Andy used his free arm to rub against my shoulder, making shushing noises with his lips.“It’ll be okay, Maddy. It’s all just a phase in your life,” He consoled, now playing with my hair.I tried to listen to Andy but it wasn’t helping. I felt more and more stuck with the thing to do next.“What do I do now?” I separated from his embrace, sniffling a little. I sat up on the couch still facing him, nose already beginning to red and clog up.“You meet the bank, Maybe in two days.” He suggested.“I'll go tomorrow,” I shook my head. It’s better done as soon as possible.“No. You need to rest, you’re pregnant remember? You've had enough walking around for a week.” Andy declined, patting my stomach gently.2 Days later“I’m meeting the bank manager today, Rose. Did you send the email regarding the pos

Madison’s POV“What happened to Brenda?” He swallowed, eyes shut again.“I met her today.” I started, he didn’t react.“At the Bank,” No reaction.“Like she knew I’d be there,”“What are you getting at, Maddy?” he sighed, letting his eyes flutter open. His hazel eyes found mine, waiting for an answer.“Maybe I just want to know why my business was in her mouth. She kept going on about the loan repayment thing, Tyler.”“Are you insinuating that I told her?” Tyler scoffed, sitting straight on the chair.“She didn’t hear it from me, did she?” I retorted, attitude evident in my toneHe laughed, “So little faith in our relationship, huh?“I rely on facts, not faith. I need an answer, Tyler. ““I didn’t tell her anything.” I didn’t miss the annoyance in his tone, although it was calm..“But why have you guys been in contact?”No response.“Tyler!”“You can leave now. I need to rest. “ He got up from the chair, heading upstairs. He didn’t even look back onceI scoffed at his nonchalant behav

Tyler’s POVI woke up feeling lightheaded and a bit nauseous, a monstrous headache starting to form. I groaned and let my head fall back to my pillow. What happened yesterday? I opened my eyes slowly adjusting to the harsh rays of sunlight. I never leave my curtains open.I must have stumbled into bed after last night. I reached for the alarm clock on the bedside table and tilted it, checking the time. 6:47am.My phone. I wasn’t with my phone.I got up from bed and put on my clothes, heading downstairs to look for my phone“Mr Marshal?” Mrs Sophie called out as I crossed the kitchen. I stopped in my tracks, then did a slight jog back to the kitchen.“I have your cellphone. Miss Brenda had dropped it off but I couldn’t hand it over because you were already asleep.” She explained, reaching into her apron and handing the phone over to me. I furrowed my eyebrows.Brenda? Why did she have my phone?“Uhh, thanks Mrs Sophie,” I glanced at her, catching a glimpse of the polite smile that grac

MADISON’S POVI stared at my reflection in the mirror, ignoring my heart pounding against my chest. It’s been two weeks. Today was the day the Board will come to a final decision and Stanford was yet to get back to me.“Fingers crossed,” I sighed and straightened my black dress. I was clad in a knee length corporate dress, something that’ll fit very well for the occasion. Andy helped me pick it out and I trust his opinion more than I do mine.Andy took a day off from work, offering to drive me to the company. I resisted at first but his insistent nature won me over, as always so I agreed. On the way to the company, negative thoughts plagued my mind. I could get entirely stripped from the company and have all my hard work and my Father’s work go down the drain. Leonard could finally succeed and all my sacrifices would be in vain. I sighed, looking outside the apartment window. Andy glanced at me then placed a comforting hand on my thigh.“You’ll be good, Maddy. Don’t stress” He only s

Madison’s POVLeonard stared at Tyler, steam practically coming out of his ears. They had a long stare down, Tyler’s grip tightening on my hand before he spun around rather dramatically.Once we were out of the office, I broke away our hands and crossed my arms against my chest. We hadn’t been on speaking terms since the incident with Brenda. I hadn’t reached out to him and neither had he. Which is why I’m even more shocked that he was aware of the situation. Did Rose tell him again? I groaned internally. Rose really had problems with saying no to Tyler and I need to address that.“So, we’re going to pretend you can’t speak?” Tyler teased, hands remained stuffed in his pocket. I caught a glimpse of his shiny watch he only wore to work. That must’ve meant he came down straight from work“Because I can’t,” I huffed with a pout forming on my lips, sparing him a glance, “At least not to you.”“Why is that if I may ask?” He asked, turning on his heels to face me. I was so caught up looking

Madison’s POVThe rest of the ride was silent, Tyler sticking to the road and me sticking to my window like glue.I spared him a glance occasionally. He had the same expression. Maybe I shouldn’t have said what I said but it was for the best for us both.He pulled over to his house, shifting the gear to park. Tyler unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of his car immediately, slamming the door shut. I gasped, my mouth hung agape at the man. There was absolutely no reason f0r him to act like he did. Watching his figure recede into the house, I got out of the car and repeated his own actions. It banged so loud that Tyler turned to look at me, eyes narrowed and a look that said, ‘Really, Maddy?” I tilted my head to the side defiantly. If he was looking for a challenge, I’d give him just that. We’d stared down at each other before I rolled my eyes at him then continued to make my way inside the house, heels clanking against the tiles. I made sure to bump his shoulders a bit to emphasise my a

Madison’s POVI almost spat out my food in shock. My puffed cheeks moved as I tried to speak.“W-what?” I mumbled, mouth still occupied.“Madison,” A ghost of a smile played on his lips, “Madison, please swallow your food first.”A blush crept onto my cheeks as I swallowed my food and downed a glass of water.“What do you mean? Move in? With you?”“Why are you shocked?” Tyler resumed eating his food, “It’s only normal for married people to live together. Especially now you’re carrying my child,” He pointed to my stomach.“Yes, but why? I need to look after my mother,” I interjected, setting down my cutleries. Tyler’s sudden proposal already had me full enough.Tyler raised an eyebrow, mirroring my actions and dropped his cutleries too, “Does your mother not have a caretaker? Why are you taking it upon yourself?”“I still have to check on her though,” I kept my eyes trained on the dining table.“You can. Once in a while,” His hands met each other, elbows placed carefully on the desk. H

Tyler’s POVI was feeling a mix of joy and nervousness as I stood in front of the altar. Finally, the day Madison and I would be married was here. It was the moment I had been waiting for. I knew how important this event was, and my heart was racing with happiness as I waited for my bride. As I walked around in a classy and charming black suit, I couldn’t help but notice the little things that made my outfit special. The suit fit my body perfectly and hugged me in all the right places. The jacket had a slim fit that drew attention to my broad shoulders, and the pants were expertly made to make me look sharp and stylish. The fabric was a high-end mix of fine wool and silk. It had a light sheen that made the outfit look a little more glamorous. The suit’s black color was classic and timeless, which matched both my great taste and the seriousness of the event. A thin satin trim around the lapels added a modest but elegant touch that made the whole look better.A crisp white dress shirt t

Madison’s POVThree months laterAs Tyler and I entered the sleek, modern office building, a wave of anticipation and nervousness filled the air. The hallway seemed to stretch forever as we approached the glass doors leading to the boardroom. I could feel Tyler’s steady presence beside me, providing a reassuring anchor amid the storm of feelings brewing inside me.The moment we stepped into the meeting, all eyes turned towards us. The muted hum of talks stopped, replaced by the palpable tension that gripped the room. I kept a composed exterior, channeling the confidence Tyler had instilled in me throughout this ordeal.Leonard Byers, sitting at the head of the table, looked up from his papers, his expression shifting from indifference to shock as he registered my presence. The board members, accustomed to his authoritative demeanor, reflected his astonishment. Madison’s POV“What’s going on in here?” my mom asked, my eyes narrowing as I took in the emotional environment.I quickly wiped away my tears, trying to calm myself. “Mom, we’re just talking,” I said.Tyler nodded in agreement, his eyes never leaving mine. “We’re having a heart-to-heart. I wanted to be honest with Madison about everything.”My mom’s eyes narrowed further, her worry escalating into frustration. “Honest conversation? Tyler, after everything that happened in the past, you think you can just waltz back into my daughter’s life and have a ‘heart-to-heart’? What gives you that right?”Tyler sighed, understanding the gravity of the situation. “Mrs. Anderson, I know I messed up in the past. I hurt Madison, and I take full blame for that. But people can change, and I want to make amends. I love your daughter, and I want to be there for her.”My mom crossed her arms, her anger obvious. “Change? Love? Tyler’s POVI reassured myself, “Headaches are not unusual after a head injury. We’ll monitor her closely and adjust the treatment as required. The goal is to make her as comfortable as possible during the healing process.”Once Madison’s pain medication was administered, she started to relax, with the sharp pain gradually subsiding. Doctor Bennet turned to Madison’s mother with a serious look.“Mrs. Byers, I would like to discuss some important issues with you. Can you please join me in my office? We can talk more freely there,” Doctor Bennet offered.Madison’s mother looked concerned but nodded. “Of course, doctor. I’ll be right there. Madison, I’ll be back soon. Try to get some rest, sweetheart,” she said, gently kissing her daughter’s face.As Mrs. Byers stepped out of the room with Doctor Bennet, I looked at them with interest. • Thorns of the Heart   Chapter 194

Madison’s POVI lay on the narrow hospital bed, my eyes half-closed, trying to make sense of the fuzzy shapes around me. The sterile scent of the hospital room filled my nose, and the rhythmic beeping of machines provided a disconcerting soundtrack to my hazy thoughts. The pain on my side felt like a sharp jab, a constant reminder of something I couldn't quite grasp.I heard my mom's voice in the distance, a comforting murmur that reassured me, "You'll be fine, Madison. The doctors are taking care of you." It was a distant echo, like a lifeline connecting me to the world outside my foggy cocoon. I tried to focus on the words, to find solace in them, but the pain and dizziness were relentless.A nurse came in, her friendly face obscured by a mask, and checked the machines that surrounded me. "How are you feeling, sweetie?" the nurse asked, her voice a gentle melody. I managed a weak smile, attempting to convey that I was okay even though I wasn't entirely sure. The nurse adjusted some

Tyler’s POV"But what of her mum? How will I convince her I mean her daughter no harm?" I asked, my worry etched across my face. Dr. Bennett leaned back in his chair, considering the question. "Building trust with Madison's mother will also take time. It's crucial to be patient and show through your actions that your intentions are sincere. Avoid confrontations, be respectful, and give her the space she might need to process everything."I sighed, a mix of frustration and understanding. "I just don't want to be seen as the bad guy here. I genuinely care about Maddison, and I want her to have all the support she needs."Dr. Bennett nodded in agreement. "It's evident, Tyler. Just be yourself and focus on being a positive presence. Actions often speak louder than words, and with time, her mother may come to see your genuine concern for Maddison's well-being."Feeling a bit more assured, I nodded. "Thanks, Dr. Bennett. Your advice means a lot. I'll do my best to be patient and understandi

I raised my hand, and with a tentative knock, I announced my presence.“Come in,” a voice called from within the room.I pushed the door open and entered, finding a comfortable-looking office with a desk cluttered with papers. Dr. Bennett, with his graying hair, looked up from his work, offering me a reassuring smile.“Tyler, finally you are here. Please, have a seat,” he gestured towards the chair across from his desk.I hesitated for a moment, feeling a mix of nervousness and relief as he took the offered seat. The chair creaked slightly under his weight as he settled in, glancing around the room at the diplomas and medical charts adorning the walls.“Thanks, Dr. Bennett,” I mumbled, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. “Sorry I’m late. Got a bit turned around in this place. It’s like a maze.”Dr. Bennett chuckled warmly, “No worries, Tyler. Hospitals can be confusing. I’m
