Darien gladly pushed through another snowdrift.

Even though Tom’s four-wheel drive monster truck could handle almost any road condition, he still wouldn’t let either of his brothers operate it. He reasoned that if he had an accident, it would be his fault and no one else would be held responsible.

Jake said, “We’ve been driving in this mess for an hour and have hardly moved forward. How was Lelandi acting when you first arrived to speak with us?

He could hardly tell if they were on the road, the shoulder, or the ditch because of his limited field of vision. The trees on each side of the road were the only thing he could make out. “Darien, hold on! Tom yelled from the backseat, “I think I saw something.

“Where?”

“Looks like the back of a green pickup,” the speaker said.
