chapter one hundred and thirteen

Caroline Baker POV

"You'll be fine, my love," I whisper to David, who was already somewhat awake. He couldn't speak because of the tube, but he seemed reassured to hear me.

His situation was a bit difficult, with a broken rib, and he wasn't responding to the pain in the arm where he was bitten. The venom had already left his body, and from what Emily told me, there hadn't been much brain damage, although it was too early to confirm due to his arm. But everything indicated that he would only need physical therapy, as the venom was neurotoxic and affected the tissues very little. He had to stay in the ICU when he woke up.

"Can you take care of him while I go home?" I ask Emily.

"Are you really going to leave your son after everything?" she looks at me incredulously.

"Emily, I need to go," I replied nervously.

"Okay, I'll stay with him," she shrugged.

"Don't leave his side, please."

She nods, and then I leave. I didn't have my car, so I had to rely on the goodwill of the taxi driver, who
