chapter one hundred and sixty four

Olivia's POV

"Sara?" I knock on the door of the room where she was.

"What do you want?" she asks, still not inviting me in.

I enter without being invited, taking a deep breath to follow my plan. I walk up to her and offer the perfume I'm holding in my hands.

"My peace offering," I say. "Just arrived from Paris. They don't sell it here yet."

"No, thanks," she gets up and leaves me talking to myself. "What if it's poisoned?" she says angrily.

"Sara, I know I was rude to you," I take a deep breath, trying to sound repentant. "But I don't want to be at odds with you. We're kind of like sisters, aren't we?"

"Okay, you're really freaking me out now," she takes a step back.

Okay, time to act. I let my eyes fill with tears. The secret isn't to cry, the secret is to pretend you're struggling not to cry.

"It's okay, Sara, I just thought maybe we could start over again," I place the perfume on the bed and head for the door.

"Wait, Olivia!" she calls after me, suspicious. "Is everything okay?"
