Elizabeth's POV:
After dropping off Ryan at his school, I and Zack sat in the car. Turns out Zack can drive, which was kinda surprising to me. "Don't worry. When we get to school, just stay close to me. A lot of people will look at us, but pay no attention to them. Also, school isn't a happy place. Some people will try to say rude things to you, but just come to me when they do, okay?" Zack says while his eyes stayed on the road. "You don't have to explain all this, Zacky. Levi already told me, and from the books I read on W*****d, I know how high school works," I said to him. With a nod, he let out a breath before saying, "I have some friends at school. Like, we are 5. You're gonna love them, except Austin; he doesn't like people," he says. Nodding my head, I gave him a thumbs-up before looking ahead. "REDWOODS HIGH SCHOOL," I mumbled, looking at the school building. "Wow," I whispered. I had no idea it would be this big. You could see some students around their cars, some laughing, some playing with their phones, and some running into the school, not wanting to miss their classes. Zack parked the car and then turned to me. "If anyone asks who you are, just say you're my sister, and you have been living with our grandparents; that's why you were hardly around. Okay?" he says softly. Nodding my head, I smiled before looking outside the window. Then I noticed four guys walking towards our car. I looked back at Zack, who laughed at the face I was giving. "Those are my friends," he mumbled before getting out of the car. With a little breath, I followed him and got out. Zack walked over to his friends; they did this handshake stuff and then started laughing about something. My head went low, avoiding every eye contact coming my way. "Who is the chick?" I heard one of Zack's friends say. My brother turned to me, then smiled before grabbing my arms. "Guys, this is Elizabeth, my sister that I told you guys about," Zack said proudly. "Hey," I whispered, feeling shy all of a sudden. I mean, who wouldn't be when five hot guys are around you? The group mumbled little "hellos" at me before we all started moving to the entrance of the building. "Well, damn, these boys are fire," my inner voice said while fanning herself with her hands. I giggled quietly, which made the group turn and look at me. "What's funny, girly?" A black guy with curly hair asked me while smiling at me. "Nothing, nothing, just thinking," I whispered to him. "My name is Teo," he said and brought his arm for me to shake. Nodding my head softly, I looked at the others who didn't seem to pay attention to us before turning back to Teo, who had his eyes on me. "How come I have never seen you around Zack before?" He asked quietly. "That's because I was staying with our grandparents for a while. I do come for holidays sometimes," I said. Still looking at him, he nods his head before saying, "Cool, cool," under his breath. The more we got closer to the school, the more the students grew. People looked our way, but mostly at me. But I didn't say anything, just turned and walked with them. "Do you mind telling me the others' names?" I asked him. Nodding his head, he pointed at a ginger boy before saying, "That's Mikey. He's nice, just always quiet. He's the mom of the group, always making sure we do everything right and not get into trouble," he said while laughing a little. "Then that's James. He's mostly known for his games. He's the man-whore of the group, always with a lady once in a while, so don't get surprised," he said while glaring at me. Nodding my head, I looked at the other guy who had a black hoodie on then pointed at him. "What about him?" I said. "Oh, that's Austin. He doesn't talk to people, always by himself, and he's scary sometimes. His dad has a lot of compounds; he's the only child so he doesn't like people at all," Teo said while I nodded my head at him. My eyes looked at Austin for a bit before moving to the school. "Come on, Eli, let's go get your schedule," Zack called out to me. Waving my arm at Teo, I walked behind him while the others went to their classes. "Teo seems nice," I said to him. He nodded his head but had a little blush when I called his name. "Why is your face red, big bro?" I said while smirking at him; he just laughed but kept walking until we walked to the office. After telling the lady my name and waiting for a few minutes, we walked out together towards the math class. "Just to let you know, Mr. Matt is a cool teacher," Zack said while I tried to follow him. He has long legs, while I don't. We walked for a bit and took a few turns before standing in front of our class. Zack didn't even knock, just walked in, while I looked at him like he was crazy. I followed him; I watched him walk towards his friends again and sat down. Mumbling insults under my breath, I walked over to the teacher who had headphones on his ears while his head nodded to the beats. Waving my arms in front of him, his eyes snapped to mine before smiling. "Hello, you must be new," he said with a smile. Nodding my head, I gave him my schedule, and then looked around the class. I noticed everyone looking at me, quickly looking away. My teacher smiled before handing the paper back to me. "Do you want to do an introduction?" He asked. Shaking my head as a no, he nods again but chuckles a little before telling me to go sit with my brother. Saying a little "thank you," I walked over to Zack, my head still low. Placing my bag down, I turned over to Zack and then glared at him before hitting his head. "Ouch, what was that for, sis?" he whispers while trying not to laugh at my face. His friends turned over to us, but I still glared at him before rolling my eyes. "Next time don't just leave me like that," I whisper back at him. He just shook his head and chuckled softly. I looked at everyone in the class to find some giving me curious glares and some with jealous eyes, but I didn't care. I just pulled out my book and started writing the notes on the board.Elizabeth's POV:Classes went by fast. Too fast, if I was being honest. No one spoke to me except Teo and Zack, and even they seemed distracted. Zack's other friends kept glaring at me once in a while but never said anything. I guess that was a good thing, but it still made me feel like I was constantly being watched, judged. Their glances didn’t go unnoticed—especially from the girls. I felt their eyes on me, quiet but sharp, like they were sizing me up. I wasn't exactly eager to figure out why, so I avoided looking their way.Now it was lunchtime, and I knew better than to show up at the cafeteria. I wasn’t in the mood to sit there under those stares again, forcing a smile or pretending everything was fine. The air in there felt too thick, too tense. It would be awkward, stuffy, uncomfortable. No thanks. I sent a quick text to Zack, letting him know I wouldn’t be coming, then made my way to the school library instead. The hallways were quieter than usual, with most students eithe
Elizabeth's POV:When science finally ended, the feeling of relief washed over me. It wasn’t that the class was particularly hard, but my mind had drifted off a few times, making it seem longer than it was. The bell rang, and Anna and I exchanged smiles as we packed up our books. “So, can I have your number?” I asked her, casually slipping my phone out of my pocket. Her eyes widened slightly, but she nodded, a shy smile tugging at her lips. We exchanged numbers, and I felt a little lighter knowing that I had officially made a friend today. It wasn’t much, but it was a start. It felt good to have someone I could talk to outside of Zack and his friends. I made a mental note to text her later, just to see if she made it home okay. The hallways were crowded as usual, a rush of students pushing their way out of the school. I didn’t mind, though. It was the same every day—people eager to get home, escape the day, or meet up with friends for whatever plans they had. I felt my phone buzz in
Elizabeth's POV:When we finally pulled up to the house, I was greeted by my brothers and Dad at the door. The second I stepped inside, they bombarded me with questions about my day.“How was it?” “Did you make any friends?” “Anyone bothering you?” I could barely get a word in between all their questions. Finally, I smiled and said, “I made a new friend. Her name’s Anna.” The room went silent for a second before my brothers and Dad broke into cheers. Mike threw his hands in the air like he was at some kind of sports event, while Levi pumped his fist, and Dad did a weird little dance move that made me laugh. I stared at them like they were crazy."What's the big deal?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. They just kept laughing. "We knew you'd make friends in no time," Levi said with a grin, while Dad nodded like he was proud of some kind of accomplishment.I couldn't help but smile back at them. It felt good to have their support, even if they were being a little over the top about i
Elizabeth POV:It's been two weeks now, and I was enjoying school. Anna and I have gotten close together, and we finished our book. As for the boys, I and Teo also got close; I saw him as an older brother. For Mikey and James, we did talk once in a while. James did try to flirt with me, which got Zack angry, but I laughed so hard I almost fainted. My therapy session was going well too; Mrs. Brown was surprised when I finally spoke to her. Then there's Austin, who was confusing, to be honest. Sometimes he could look at me and just walk away. We haven't had a conversation before, though, but I was hoping one day we could.Today was a sports tryout in school, and I was applying for basketball. My brothers have been teaching me a lot of basketball moves, and I suddenly fell in love with it."What's your name?" a black lady with funny hair asked me."Elizabeth, Elizabeth King's," I said to her quietly. She made a "hmm" sound before giving me a paper. With that, I walked away, still looking
Elizabeth POV:When the Knight Family left the house, I stayed quietly in the kitchen, waiting for Dad to come in."Hey, sweetie, ready for dinner?" He asked, but I just shook my head softly."You guys are in the mafia?" I asked softly. He stopped walking and looked at me with confused eyes."How did you know?" He asked, looking at me.I looked at him before saying, "Just answer my question, Dad," surprising both of us for a moment. He dropped his head slowly before nodding later.I looked at him, waiting for an explanation, but he just stayed there. I knew he was not happy about me finding out, but I had to clear it.With that, I walked into my bedroom while I heard him call my name softly, but I didn't reply.I wasn't angry about them being in the mafia, just angry that they kept it away from me.Four hours later, time passed slowly, but I was still in my room. I could hear Dad and the boys talking downstairs. Zack even came to check on me, but I didn't answer him."Princess, can we
Alexander’s POV:Three hours. Three long, agonizing hours, and Elizabeth still hadn’t come home. It wasn’t like her to disappear for this long, not without telling at least one of her brothers where she was. The boys were pacing the living room, restless, their concern as clear as mine. I sat at the head of the table, my hands clenched into fists on my lap, trying to keep my frustration at bay. The more time passed, the heavier the dread in my chest became.I looked up at my best friend, Michael, who sat across from me, his brow furrowed with concern. The silence in the room was deafening, interrupted only by the occasional shuffle of feet or a sigh from one of the boys. Finally, I cleared my throat, breaking the heavy tension."I'm sorry for disturbing you all this evening," I began, my voice quieter than I intended, "but my daughter, Elizabeth, is missing again."The weight of my words sank into the room like a stone into water. There was a collective intake of breath, followed by
Elizabeth's POV"Why would she just leave without telling anyone, Dad?" I heard a voice murmur quietly in the distance. My head was throbbing, a dull ache pulsing behind my eyes. I blinked, trying to focus, my surroundings still blurry from sleep. Why did my head hurt? And why did my body feel so stiff, like I'd been sleeping on the ground?"Wait... if I was sleeping on the ground in the woods, why does this bed feel so comfortable?" my mind raced, panic rising in my chest. My eyes shot open fully, and I darted a glance around the room, heart pounding. Was I kidnapped? Where am I?But then, I saw them. My family. My brothers, Dad, everyone was there, standing in the room, their faces tight with anger and... hurt."Hey guys," I said quietly, hoping to ease the tension, but it didn’t work. Instead of welcoming smiles or relieved hugs, they all just stared at me, their expressions a mix of frustration and disappointment. Zack was leaning against the wall, arms crossed, his jaw tight. Mi
Elizabeth's POVI woke up to an eerie stillness. The house was quiet—too quiet. No footsteps echoing in the hallways, no clinking of dishes from the kitchen, no soft murmurs of conversation floating up the stairs. It was as if the entire house had emptied itself overnight, leaving only me behind. I blinked, slowly sitting up in bed, my heart sinking at the silence that surrounded me. The familiar warmth that used to fill this place was gone, replaced with a cold emptiness that pressed down on my chest. I listened for any sound, any sign that someone was still here, but there was nothing. Just the quiet hum of the world outside, indifferent to the turmoil inside me.I hugged my knees to my chest, staring at the door. No one was coming. No one was going to check on me, ask if I was okay, or even acknowledge that I was still here. They were all angry—Zack, Ryan, Dad—everyone. And I couldn’t blame them. I had messed up, broken their trust, and now... this was the result.I felt the weigh
Ryan sat in the back seat of the car, his headphones on, drowning out the world around him with the rhythm of Jayo’s "Often" pulsing through his ears. It had become his way of coping lately — losing himself in music, trying to block out the growing tension in his family. His brothers, Zack and Leo, were sitting in the front, quietly chatting about something, but he wasn’t paying much attention. All he could think about was the gnawing feeling inside him, the anger that never seemed to go away. They were supposed to have a "family day" today, without their dad, who was still recovering from his health scare. But even without him, the weight of the family’s troubles hung heavy in the air. It didn’t feel right. It didn’t feel like family. Not without Elizabeth. Not without knowing where she was, what she was going through. He turned the music up, letting the beat hit harder, hoping it would drown out the nagging thoughts. But it wasn’t working. Nothing worked anymore. His mind kept dr
Mr. Black sat alone in his study, the room dimly lit by the soft glow of a desk lamp. The walls were lined with bookshelves, but tonight, he wasn’t interested in the knowledge they held. His attention was on the mask he held in his hands. It was a simple black mask, a symbol of his authority and his way of maintaining control over his world. But tonight, it felt like a barrier between him and something he couldn’t quite grasp. He had always hidden behind this mask. It allowed him to be ruthless, to lead his men with an iron fist. But lately, it felt like it was also hiding a part of him that he didn’t fully understand. The thought of Sophia, as she was now known—had become an obsession. Her presence, her struggles, and the way she seemed to test the boundaries of his carefully constructed world had been occupying his thoughts more and more.He placed the mask on his desk and leaned back in his chair. His fingers traced the edges of the mask as if hoping to find some answers there. He
Sophia, entered her room and closed the door behind her with a quiet click. She moved slowly towards the small mirror on the wall, each step feeling like a weight pressing down on her. The day’s training had left her exhausted and bruised, both physically and emotionally. Her reflection showed a girl who no longer looked like the person she remembered. Her hair was now white, a stark contrast to her old look. She pulled up her shirt and studied the bruises that covered her stomach and arms. They were vivid and angry, a patchwork of purples and blues. The sight made her wince, and she gingerly touched a particularly large bruise just below her ribs. The pain was not just from the physical blows she’d received; it was the emotional toll that was hardest to bear. Mr. Black’s harsh words and the force of his punches had left a deep mark on her soul. She had failed to hit him back during their training, which only intensified her feelings of inadequacy. She was supposed to be learning
Sophia stood in the center of the training room, her body tense and her heart racing. The walls were cold and unforgiving, much like the man who circled her now, his sharp eyes never leaving her.Mr. Black paced around her, his footsteps echoing ominously through the room. The mask he always wore made it impossible to see his expression, but she didn’t need to. His cold, controlled voice was enough to make her feel on edge.“Let’s see if this little princess can actually fight,” he said, his voice dripping with disdain.Sophia swallowed hard, the weight of his words pressing down on her. She had never been in a fight in her life. Her world before this had been one of luxury, where she was shielded from everything dangerous. Now, she was being forced to face the reality she had always been ignorant of.“As a member of my Mafia, you’ll need to learn to protect yourself,” Mr. Black continued, his tone mocking. “You think anyone’s going to show you mercy out there? You think your enemies
The rain tapped softly against the windowpane as Ryan sat at the edge of his bed, staring out into the gray, drizzly world beyond. It had been days since he'd felt like talking to anyone, especially his grandparents, who tried their best to make him comfortable here in Europe. But no matter how hard they tried, it wasn’t home. And he wasn’t happy."Ryan, sweetheart," his grandmother’s soft voice interrupted his thoughts, pulling him back to the moment. She stood in the doorway, her expression hesitant, as if she knew the news she was about to deliver wasn’t going to go over well."Yeah?" Ryan asked, his voice flat. He barely turned to look at her, still staring out the window, watching the rain collect in tiny pools on the grass. His grandmother cleared her throat, stepping inside and sitting beside him on the bed. "Your father called. He wants you to come back home. You’ll be leaving tomorrow."Ryan’s heart lurched. Home? His mind raced through the possibilities, and the first thing
Alexander’s sleep had been restless for days, disturbed by nightmares that tore through the silence of the night. Ever since Elizabeth had disappeared, his mind had been plagued with thoughts of her, of Ryan, of Zack and Leo, and the family that seemed to be crumbling around him. Each night he hoped for some semblance of peace, but tonight was no different. In the darkness of his slumber, Alexander found himself standing in the middle of a burning house. The flames roared around him, consuming the walls, the ceiling, the floor, everything. Thick, black smoke choked the air, making it hard to breathe, but it wasn’t the fire that terrified him.It was the screams.“Dad! Help me!” He turned sharply at the sound of Elizabeth’s voice, his heart clenching painfully in his chest. Her voice was full of panic, raw and desperate. He couldn’t see her through the thick, swirling smoke, but he could hear her, feel her fear as if it were his own.“Elizabeth!” he called, his voice hoarse and strain
Leo paced the living room, his hands stuffed into his pockets, head down as he tried to make sense of everything. The air in the house felt heavy, weighed down by the tension that had hung over them ever since Elizabeth disappeared.Across the room, Zack sat slouched on the edge of the couch, his eyes focused on the ground, deep in thought. He had just hung up the phone after yet another frustrating conversation with their uncle Nick. The man had been brief, his tone sharp, leaving them both with a sense of dread.“What do we do now?” Leo finally asked, breaking the silence. His voice was low, almost resigned.Zack didn’t answer immediately. He leaned forward, rubbing his hands together as if trying to warm them from a cold that only he could feel.“Why do I have a feeling we made a bad move by adding him into this?” Leo muttered, his frustration bubbling to the surface. He stopped pacing and turned to face his brother.Zack looked up, meeting Leo’s gaze. “We didn’t have a choice,” he
The soft ticking of the clock was the only sound that had filled her room for hours. Sophia sat quietly on the bed, her thoughts swirling in an endless loop. Ever since her walk through the mansion earlier, her mind had been restless. Something had shifted within her, though she couldn’t quite place what it was. Maybe it was the memory of seeing the men without their masks, relaxed and unconcerned. Or maybe it was the fact that Mr. Black wasn’t around today. She leaned back against the wall, her gaze fixed on the ceiling. Suddenly, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the hallways. It was subtle at first, but it grew louder with every passing second, more frantic. The shift in the mansion’s atmosphere was palpable—something was happening.Sophia sat up, her senses suddenly alert. "What’s happening?" she thought, pushing the blanket off her legs and standing up. She moved toward the door, placing her ear against it to listen. Voices echoed from down the corridor, muffled
The pale morning light filtered through the heavy curtains, casting a soft glow across the room. Sophia, woke up from her sleep, the sheets rustling softly as she pushed them aside. The mansion was always eerily quiet at this hour, and today was no different. But something inside her, a strange restlessness, urged her to get out of bed and explore.Since her arrival, the place had been a fortress of secrets. No one talked to her unless absolutely necessary, and everyone wore masks. It was unsettling, yet there was something about the silence that had become almost comforting. Still, today, she wanted more than the four walls of her room. She wanted to see the mansion beyond what little glimpses she had caught. She slipped out of bed, padding barefoot across the cool marble floor. She opened the door quietly, half-expecting to see someone standing guard outside, but to her surprise, the hallway was empty. Her curiosity piqued, she stepped out and began walking, her footsteps soft and
