As we arrived at the gate, I saw a sign that read: Immortal Central City. Population 34,564,012. 'Very Original. Like we need something telling us we are entering a place full of blood suckers.' I thought to myself laughing out loud a little. I covered my month, looking at Helium to see if he heard me. He was looking in his pouch for money, so I figured I was not heard.

"Does it cost to get into the capital?" I asked.

"Not for nobles, but humans who are not servants, and dhampir there is a little fee to enter. Since you live here you should know how little you see anyone who isn't a noble or servant living here." He laughed and continued.

"This city is for the rich, or those who serve the rich." We were at the gate entrance now.

"Are you both nobles?" A human asked. He was dressed in fancy clothes, unlike the humans in Bloodvillage. He worn a red button up shirt, with red jeans, and black boots. On his are wa

The elevator moved at a seemingly slow rate. It seemed like it stopped at every floor. Humans and vampires were getting on and off what seemed to be every 2 or 4 floors. I don't know how long it normally takes to get to the 100th floor, but it took me about 30 minutes. I stood in the corner trying not to talk to anyone. There were a few people who seemed to know who I was though. They would turn around and say hi, or ask me how I have been. I kept my answer short. When they would ask where I had been, I would say I tried going to the ocean but got home sick and came back mid-trip. No one seemed to miss me, but a few were worried about why I hadn't been there. I even heard one of the vampires saying they thought the prince had drunk my blood and killed me. It seemed like it was normal not to talk about where people went if they were missing. I could tell who the vampires were, because they talked in a low voice I wouldn't have been able to hear if I

As I turned the door knob, I thought to myself 'I probably should have knocked first...'. The door opened slowly as I heard;"Who is it!" The voice sounded frustrated. Like the world was on his shoulder. He wasn't really mad, but he defiantly sounded bothered. I was about to close the door back but he had already looked up at me. He was sitting at a desk. A window in the background made sunlight shin down on him. His skin was just like a stained glass amber gem like mine, but green. He was very handsome. His golden blonde hair, straight but fluffy. His eyes a dark green like center parcs. He looked more like 26, 27 now that I was up close. He wore a blue suit. The suit was nice. He had a green button down shirt under the jacket. He had a golden watch on his wrist. On his desk was a pill of papers, a computer, a lamp, and a net space in-between for him to do his work. He dropped his pen, and stood up quickly and quietly.

  • The life I wished for   Chapter 11

I was born in a town called Merchandising Town, population 4,298. It was a town like Hustle Town. There were a lot of shops, and people selling products to survive. My mom was one of the women who let vampires drink her blood for money. She would get around 40 dollars a night, but most of it went on paying off my dad's gambling debts. My dad was addicted to gambling, and a good for nothing. My mom fell for him at a food stand when he gave an older lady free fruit. He was, at one point and time, a good man. Mother always took care of him, which is why he quit his job at the fruit stand. He would only make around 10 dollars a day. Compared to her 40 dollars a night, he figured he didn't need to work. As time passed, he began spending late nights out with friends. Him and his friends would gamble on things like cards, or how good the harvest for both humans and food would be, or even on how many servants would be bough

  • The life I wished for   Chapter 12

I spent my next 2 years getting to know the prince's likes and dislikes, his rules that I must obey, and he didn't let me go alone on errands. I wasn't shy around him anymore either. He turned out to be nicer than he looked. He wouldn't say things with emotion in his voice, but his eyes said otherwise. I grew to be okay with my new situation as the days passed. When I woke up the next day, Maria showed me how I would spend my days. When I first woke up, I was to check on him, and see if he needed anything. Next, I would take a shower. He had soaps that he wanted me to use everyday twice a day. It smelt of lemons. He had a tub, and a shower you could sit in. I preferred a shower. It felt good to have the water hit me. We didn't get the chance to take showers like this in my hometown. It's not that it wasn't available

As the elevator left the 106st floor, I wondered what the queen was like. I did not know much about how the world worked, but I did know that we lived in a monarchy. The human race is ruled by a queen and a king vampire. My father told me that the world has been this way for 199 years; since 2102. humans went to war with the vampires in the year 2101. but lost. Thanks to Ms. Maria, I now knew even more about how we lost.I stood in the back of the elevator, holding Maria's hand. There were 7 floors we had to go up to reach the Queen."Ms. Maria?""Yes dear?""What's on the 113th floor?" Ms. Maria looked down at me, smiling, then got down to my level."Deary, we are going to the Royal Throne Room. Usually we need an appointment to go there to talk to

The queen walked to her desk and sat down in her chair. She sat her elbows on the desk; leaning her head down into her hands. "So darling, tell me about yourself." She smiled as she said this, but her tone was demanding. I felt as if I must obey the words she spoke. I felt I had will of my own. I looked at her, my eyes unsure where to look. I focused on her gorgeous hair. The way the colors matched her eyes. I felt like I was looking at a rainbow after it had just rained in the sky. I breathed in and smiled. I tried to choose my words carefully. I did not want to upset the queen. "I am 6 years old, your majesty..." She cut me off before I could continue. "Vera, my name is Vera. You can call me that. I have a feeling I will be getting very close to you, so let's just keep it on a first time basis." She made a half smile. Sh

Maria dropped me off on the 106 floor, and headed back to the queen. We said our goodbyes, but she knew she'd see me again. When I walked into the living room, there was a box wrapped in paper and ribbon. On it was a card. Welcome to the family. I will be in my office all day today. Take this chance to explore your new home. I hope you will like it. You are my child now, but you will still have to do servant jobs. I put the card down on the table, and opened the box. Inside were 2 different things. One was a movie, the other a book. The movie read 'Rava the last dragon', and the book read 'Green eggs and ham'. I was in awe. They were in good condition. To find a book, or to have a movie was rare. Usually you could only see a movie at the theater, which cost a lot. Books were even harder to get

  • The life I wished for   Chapter 16

Prince Anthony stood inches away from me. He looked down at me, staring as if waiting for me to say something. We stood in the doorway staring at each other for mere minutes, but I could not bring myself to speak. This was the vampire who bought me from my family. But at the same time… he did save me from my father, who was a good for nothing bum. If the prince did not buy me, my father would have sold me to some other vampire with a wretched fate in store for me. There was a plus side to being in the Prince Anthony family. I could have anything I wanted if I was good. My train of thought was broken when the prince shifted his weight to one foot and put his hands in his pockets.“You have been procrastinating At my door for a while now. Is there something I do for you?” His voice was not really an annoyed tone, but a matter-of-fact tone. I looked down at my feet, holding the bottle out towards him.“It’s

We laid in Anthony bed next to each other holding hands. I looked out his window. It was night time already...maybe early morning. “Asoka?” Anthony rolled onto his side to face me. I rolled over to face him, putting my hand in his soft, wavy hair. “Yes, my love?’ He grinned. “I have a question…” I looked at him. There was nothing he could say to ruin this day. I got everything I wished for. Whatever question he had… I could handle it. “Go ahead.” “Will you go somewhere with me in the morning?” I laughed, and a hint of discouragement danced across his face. “I’m n

  • The life I wished for   Chapter 27

I laid there with my eyes closed as all the memories flooded back. It was like seeing my life flash before my eyes. I did not need air anymore, but I felt the need to take a breath. It was a lot to take in. I had a life with Anthony. I was happy. I had friends. I was loved. What more could I have asked for? But I did ask for more… for a life with him. My want had made a dent in our relationship. I was barely around Anthony these past two years. All because I asked too much of him. Then when he grants my wish, after I promised nothing would change how I feel… I deny him. I turned away… all because he loved me enough to tell the truth. My cheeks burned, and my face was wet. Tears had streamed from the side of my eyes into my hair. I had a lot, and I took it for granted. I thought about what he had said to me. Did he really feel the life we had together was not worth c

  • The life I wished for   Chapter 26

I woke up in my bed, feeling, hearing, and seeing better than before. It was like everything was heightened. I could hear the elevator going up and down. I could see the little fly in my room, sitting on my dresser, I could feel the silk of my cover ten times better than before. I could feel every thread. Anthony was sitting on the edge of my bed with his head in his hands. I remember what he said… he killed my mother. I wonder if I could be with him after hearing that. Did I even still want to be with him? Was it worth it? To be with my mothers murder? He turned to me as I sat up.“Asoka!” He came to my side in an instant. I did not look up at him. I was still hurt by what he had told me.“I need you to drink my blood now okay?” He went to bite his wrist, but I grabbed his hand to stop him.“No…” it was a low whisper. My voice is barely Even there.&

  • The life I wished for   Chapter 25

I spent my next 11 years going to school. My only friends were Amara and Blake. I graduated at age 17, and decided I didn’t want to go to an all vampire college, which Anthony respected. I had a hard time in high school with grades 7-12th. Amara protected me in grades 1-6, but we had different classes in high school. Carter High was on the 26thfloor. I didn’t bother making new friends. I was kind of a lone wolf. I didn’t get made fun of, but I did get asked a lot if a vampire could taste my blood because I smelled so good. Of course I denied everyone, and I guess because they weren’t little kids, they left me alone.I spent the next 5 years after school helping Anthony with his work, running errands for him, giving him his meals, or cleaning the house. I felt like a servant at times, but at the end of each week he would reward m

  • The life I wished for   Chapter 24

The lunch went well, we barely talked. Esmerlda talked about how she was the queen's best friend, Amara let me order any desert I wanted on her, and Prince Anthony sat in silence. You could tell he did not want to be there. I ordered spaghetti with texas toast. Anthony got a supreme pizza tasting bottle of blood that had been mixed with garlic blood. I guessed it would make it taste like garlic pizza. I learned that you could mix blood to get new flavors, though I got the prince to tell me that the blood types had to be the same for this to work. Esmerlda got a bottle of blood that tastes like a fruit salad, then made a statement about how she was trying to watch her figure. Amara surprised me by her choice of blood. She may be 6, but had a refined palate. She ordered a mixture of blood that tasted like white truffle pizza. I had never had white truffle myself, but she

I didn’t set my alarm last night, so I woke up to a knock on my door.“Who is it?” I said while yawning in between words.“It’s Amara! Are you ready for brunch?” There was excitement in her voice. Excitement I was not ready for.“Give me a minute.” I got out of bed, and went to my closet. ‘What to wear?’ I looked through the 9 outfits I had. I ended up choosing a tank- top with a character on it, and a jean skirt. I grabbed my black stockings, and my sandals. I tried to get dressed as quickly as I could. You could hear Amara on the other side talking to someone.“Don’t worry, she’s really sweet. In taste and k

  • The life I wished for   Chapter 22

I had just finished my homework when I heard the elevator door open. I looked up, and saw Anthony walking through the doors. Behind him was Ms. Maria. She was carrying files. There looked to be about 5 of them. She went straight to Prince Anthony's office, waving hi to me as she passed. Anthony went straight to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of blood. He put it in the microwave for a few minutes, then grabbed it. He came into the living room, and sat down at the end of the couch. ‘He must have had a hard day today…’ I felt bad for him. It must be hard to rule the world. I laughed a little to myself.“Are you okay Sir?” I asked, looking up at him. He looked down at my pile of homework, showing no emotion on his face. ‘What could he possibly be thinking?’“Imagine havi

  • The life I wished for   Chapter 21

It was September, so I was a month behind in school. The teacher had me come to the front of the class after the bell rang to introduce myself to the class. As I walked to the front, a girl grabbed my hand and whispered. "You tasted like milk chocolate." It was a white girl, with bright pink hair, and fuscia pink eyes. She was the only person I'd seen with different colored hair besides me and the queen. She had chosen to wear the dress uniform like me, but had pink stockings instead of purple. She looked like an angel, with a shin to her skin. It was like she was radiating light from her skin. There was no window in the classroom though. I wasn't sure how her skin could look like that. "Let's be friends!" She asked me as she let go of my hand. The girl bit me in the elevator and now wanted to
