Between Mr. Bradley, Mr. Kiyoshi, and Mr. Curtis’s projects, the morning was busy for Zane as he sat at the head of the table, in the conference room, staring at his employees' faces, but he was overwhelmed by the encounter he had yesterday evening.

His mind kept drifting back to that moment, and unknown to himself, his fingers had curled into fists and he could feel the muscles in his jaw tense up and relax in a manner most unlike him.

He couldn't get out of his head, and his patience was running thin the more he sat there with only one person crowding his thoughts, leaving no room for him to care about anything going on around him.

The quietness in the room seemed deafening as Zane took a few steps backward, breathing heavily, trying to stay calm, and looking anywhere else except the doctor who was sitting in front of him.“Did you meet with Damion before coming here?” Zane asked the second he could control his emotions again, forcing himself to breathe normally to prevent another emotional outburst. When Zane turned his gaze finally toward the doctor, Mr. Norsemen didn't shy away from his eyes and said, “No. Your father-”“I told you Damion is not my father.” Zane interrupted him a bit calmer this time, but just as tense.“I am sorry. I don't know what happened between you two-”“I will tell you then. After your so-called treatment that led to my mother’s death, I was sent out of the country-”“My treatment did not kill-”“Please let me finish.” Silence settled in the room after those words, and then Zane continued, “And that's how I found out the truth... That she was poison because whatever I was suffering f

There is someone else that you are trying to shield.”“Maybe... But that doesn't erase the fact that I am trying to protect you too.” Mr. Briggs replied, sounding almost desperate.Another laugh escaped Zane's lips as he pulled away and studied Mr. Briggs carefully while shaking his head again, this time with a smirk on his face, and he said, “There is always the easy way or the hard way. Nightmares are supposed to be fiction, a product of the imagination and mind. The only thing that should scare you is fear itself. However, in this case, it’s not quite the same for Zane as he grabbed onto his blanket, tightly in his grips, his eyes shut, and his chest rising and falling rapidly. He was breathing heavily, his hands were clenched into fists, and his face was contorted with pain as his life experience became the nightmare that plagued his dreams. Finally, after drawing a deep breath, his eyes opened and he sat up, his head spinning slightly due to the sudden rush of adrenaline. A few moments later, he felt like he finally could breathe again as reality set in. He slowly reached up with a shaking hand to touch his face which was still damp from tears. It took a while, and then he stepped down from his bed, headed into the bathroom, and got into the shower, letting all his emotions run wild as the water ran cold on his bare skin. After that, he got dressed in a pair

The drive to Mr. Alfred's house came to a stop when Yoko's foot hit the brake and turned off the car engine. The car was silent, except for the sound of his and Zane’s own breath, and when Zane stared out the window, he saw Mr. Alfred standing outside in front of the mansion, apparently waiting on them. The fear of facing the truth became very real to Zane at that moment and even though he knew the was no turning back now, it still made him feel as though there was something heavy crushing his heart. Watching Yoko and Zane step out of the car, Mr. Alfred tightened his grip on his cane and smiled kindly at both of them.“Zane,” Mr. Alfred mumbled. “It’s nice to see you again...”The genuine worried look in the old man's eyes made Zane's anger soften and he gave him a genuine, slight smile.“Can we talk inside,” Zane said. It wasn’t quite an order, but it was close enough to be one, and Mr. Alfred seemed to understand what he meant because he nodded with a sad expression on his face.

It felt like an eternity with each passing second of this awful silence, and she felt herself slowly growing annoyed and tenser. “How could he not visit me?” Emma mumbled with a pout, yet her worry for Zane never left her mind. For a couple of seconds, she endured the quietness, and then she blurted out, “Jerk, how can you not visit your wife when she is in the hospital!!”Just then the room door opened and she looked right to see Zane standing there, looking sheepish. With this guilty look on his face, he rubbed the back of his neck with one hand and held flowers with another."I'm sorry," he said softly as he entered the room, closing the door behind him.“Where have you been?” Emma asked. ~~~~~*Two years later*~~~~~The sun casts a warm glow through the large windows of Zane's office, creating a serene and inviting ambiance. For a while, Yoko sat nervously on the plush leather couch, his fingers fidgeting with the delicate box hidden in his pocket. Then he stole a glance at Zane, who was engrossed in a stack of paperwork on his desk. Summoning his courage, Yoko cleared his throat, capturing Zane's attention. Zane looked up, his eyes filled with curiosity. Yoko could feel his heartbeat quicken as he slowly withdrew the box from his pocket, holding it delicately in his trembling hands. His palms were clammy. As the pen dropped from his grip, Zane's lips curled into a mischievous smile as he observed Yoko's gesture. Then he teased, leaning back in his chair, his words dripped with playful sarcasm, the glint in his eyes betraying his amusement, "Well, well, Yoko... I knew you were a charmer, but I already have a stunning wife." Chuckling, Yoko narrowed his eyes, and he

Without warning, he tossed a gun towards Zane, the metallic object spinning through the air before landing with a thud at Zane's feet. "Take it!" Jason spat. "It's yours, Zane! Your thirst for revenge has ruined all our lives! So go ahead, pick up the gun, and satisfy your anger! After shutting the door, Zane's footsteps echoed through the grand hallway of the mansion. His mind was a whirlwind of emotions, thoughts crashing into each other with relentless force. All he could focus on was the heaviness in his chest, the weight of the day's events bearing down upon him.As he made his way further into the mansion, Zane's eyes darted around, avoiding the gazes of the staff who lined the corridors, silently going about their duties. Both Emma and Damon were sitting in the living room, and when she saw Zane, walking through the doorway, she woke from her seat and rushed to him.His grip tightened around her waist as he pressed a kiss to her lips, letting it linger there for several seconds before pulling back slightly. She reached out and brushed her fingers across his cheek, gently coaxing him to turn his gaze toward her. With a weak smile, he turned to face her, his eyes filled with shadows, and she traced the lines on Zane's face with her fingers, trying to read his emotions. The hospital room was filled with silent tension as Belinda and Emma cautiously entered. Their eyes immediately fell upon Zane, who was sitting by the bed, his head resting on the mattress. Yoko, who had been keeping a watchful eye on him, glanced up at the sound of their arrival. Placing his hand to his lip, he whispered, "Shh-shh... Since we got to the hospital yesterday, he just fell asleep." But just as the words left Yoko's lips, Zane's eyes fluttered open, and he sat up, his gaze fixated on the two ladies standing before him. There was a mixture of relief and weariness in his eyes, and a faint smile crossed his lips. Unable to contain her emotions, Emma stepped forward and enveloped Zane in a tight hug, her arms wrapped around his neck. Her voice, barely a whisper, trembled with concern, "How are you hanging in?" As his weary gaze met Emma's, Zane managed a small smile. "I am just glad that this idiot is fine," he replied, his voice laced with a touch of humor, but his e
