There they were again.
Liana clutched on her bag, showing a sign of uneasiness. Everyone's eyes are on her and she doesn't like it. She couldn't simply be in the building because when they catch her, they put their attention to her.
"Why can't they just eat peacefully and let me fall in line for my food in peace too?" Liana said in her mind with a little forehead crease.
"Wonder why they're always staring?"
Liana almost jumped in her place when someone from her back whispered. Liana looked back and that's when a long wavy haired girl at her age smiled.
"I'm Pat, an employee here,"
"I'm–"
"Liana. I know. Almost everyone knows you already," Pat butted in on Liana's introduction.
Unsure what to do or say, Liana only nodded with a small beam.
Pat laughed at Liana's wordless response. "Don't worry, some might, but not everyone hates you,"
Liana remained silent. It may be connected to their jealousy, like what Raven said.
Pat wanted to say something and she was about to when she noticed Liana's next in line already. "Take your food first and I'll tell you something," Pat gave Liana a single nod.
"Okay…" Liana replied and faced the server. Because of Pat, her mind became clouded with thoughts that she only picked random dishes just to be fast.
"Will you sit with me?" Liana asked Pat who's talking to the server. She's standing beside, holding her tray of lunch.
"Yeah, wait," Pat replied without giving Liana a single glance. The girl was busy picking her food. When done, they walked to an unoccupied table together.
"What is it that you want to tell?" Liana put her hands on her lap. Pat was staring at her and it made her uncomfortable.
"You look so much like her," Pat said in a serious tone. She's studying Liana's each feature. There are differences, but a lot of similarities.
"Like who?" Liana tilted her head, now more curious than ever.
"Stella,"
Liana clashed her brows. Stella? Was it the name Kai moaned when they were in bed?
Liana started feeling nervous. A bucket of questions poured on her. Who is Stella? Is she connected to Kai?
"Stella is sir Kai's ex-girlfriend," Pat added. Liana started feeling more confused. Kai's ex-girlfriend looks a lot like her. Is it a coincidence?
"T-tell me more," Liana mindlessly said.
"They were together for four years. We really thought they'll end up together… but Stella left Kai a few years ago. Stella's the only girl Kai loved that when they broke up, Kai never dated anyone again. Even flings, none!"
"She looks like me?" Liana slowly looked up at Pat.
Pat nodded. "Wait, I'll show you her photo,"
Liana pursed her lips. Why would Kai hire someone who resembles his ex? Kai still loves Stella? If so, is Liana just there to remind Kai of his ex?
Liana closed her fist. Her realization hit her like a ton of blocks. Kai's not only rude, bossy, and annoying. He's also a user for his own gain.
"Here, take a look at your twin," Pat giggled. She put her phone on the table and shoved it to Liana.
Liana eyed the phone. Stella looked seriously like her. Stella is whiter compared to her, and her hair is long blonde. Liana has wider eyes compared to Stella. They have different moles too but other than that, they share the same features. It's like they're twins.
"Wow–I mean, how?" Liana breathed, not leaving her eyes on the photo. She only looked up at Pat when the phone closed.
"Amazing, right? Amazing how sir Kai found another Stella," Pat chuckled. She had started eating and Liana hadn't touched a single utensil yet.
"But wait! How did you two meet?!" Pat suddenly added in a loud voice.
Liana scoffed realizing Kai had only approached her because she looks like Stella. "We met in a club. He approached me and after a few minutes, we kissed–"
"You kissed?!" Pat exaggeratedly cut off.
Liana nodded. "We kissed and he brought me to a hotel–"
"You fucked?! Oh my god!" Pat dropped the spoon and fork, covered her mouth with two hands and went wide eyes.
"Almost. But we didn't because I left when he moaned another girl's name, which happened to be Stella,"
Pat laughed. "He did that? Man, that must be awkward!"
Liana nodded. "I know. It was when I was dressing up. Anyway, now I know I was only hired because of Stella," She ended with a sigh.
Pat pouted. "Yeah, maybe that's really why. The old secretary got fired mysteriously–or it was until we saw you,"
"I feel bad," Liana sadly said, thinking about someone suddenly losing a job like what happened to her.
"Same but Kai doesn't. You know, someone like him easily throws people out if he finds them unuseful anymore," Pat replied, shaking her head in disappointment. She continued eating afterwards.
Liana felt the same disappointment Pat felt. Kai's attitude is really trash.
Both talked about Kai and a little about his relationship with Stella until the lunch break ended. Liana wasn't able to finish her food because of her thoughts.
Liana attended the meeting Kai asked her to show up to and fortunately, she made her work just fine.
On the way back to the office, Liana hoped Kai wasn't there. She doesn't know how to react to Kai's presence after what she discovered.
"Should I confront him?" Liana asked herself. Some people she's with in the elevator looked back at her. She bit her lower lip. Too spaced out, she forgot where she was.
Will Kai get mad if Liana confronts him? Will he be ashamed of what he did? But he's Kai with a bad attitude. There's no way he'll feel guilty. More likely mad.
"I shouldn't tell him, then. I need this job," Liana murmured before she stepped out of the elevator.
If Kai wants something in exchange for the job, Liana will do it. She just had to keep her eyes on the prize and everything will remain fine.
"Had to please the monster for money. For my family," Liana took a deep breath as she walked inside the office.
"You're late,"That's what Liana received from Kai as soon as she walked inside the office. She frowned as she took a quick look at her wrist watch."It's only 7:00, Sir Ellis. Work time should start at 7:30," Liana reasoned. "Good morning, by the way,""Office hours shouldn't get involved when I wanted to see you early," Kai eyed Liana from reading a book.Liana fixed her posture. She wasn't ready to get flirted with this early. She slowly walked to her table. "Oh… okay,"Kai put the book away and focused on Liana who had begun her work. Liana, on the other hand, hid her face behind her opened folder. The intense gaze of Kai made her uneasy."Have you eaten?" Kai suddenly asked.Liana nodded. "Yes…""I haven't. Like what you said, it's not office hours until 7:30. You've got 30 minutes to go with me,"Liana eyed Kai, jaw slightly dropped. The latter stood up and halted in front of her."Are you gonna stand up or I'll have to carry you?"
Kai fixed his posture. Victor was walking from the door to Kai who's standing beside his table. Victor's right hand man remained standing near the door."Dad," Kai responded, trying to avoid his father's eyes. He looked at the floor when Victor stopped near him."Where's the secretary you're bragging about?" Victor's voice was deep and harsh."She's on her way up here, Dad," Kai's voice almost trembled. He unaware of what's better, to beg Liana to come up faster or to pray Liana wouldn't show up because he'll be in danger by the time her father sees her.Victor scoffed. "Wasn't she trained to be punctual? I did not come here to wait! Dios Mio!""G-good afternoon…"Kai let out a quiet sigh when Liana entered the room. A heavy breath was heard from Victor as soon as he laid his eyes on Liana."G-good afternoon, sir…" Liana looked down, knees slightly trembling.Kai knows then he's finally in danger.
“What exactly happened yesterday?”Liana gave Pat a head shake. “It’s not my story to tell. You saw Kai’s face, he’s bruised. I’ll leave that to your thoughts,”Both of them are having their day-off. Liana planned to stay home after all the stressful events that happened the other day, until Pat annoyed her about them going out. So now, they’re strolling in the mall.Pat shook her head. “It’s not that. Someone sent a photo in our group chat! It’s your photo with sirKai in a parking lot! See…” She took out her phone in her pocket and showed Liana something. It’s a photo of her and Kai getting in the latter’s car.Liana pressed her lips together. “It’s nothing… He was drunk last night and called me. I just accompanied him home,”Liana was aware of the rumors living in the company for since she came. Everyone suspects Kai is only using her, which is right, but was never confirmed by anyone.“Nothing happened?” Pat raised a brow playfully.Liana’s eyes went wide. Her palm hit Pat’s arm. “
The ice from a girl's whiskey bottle was again turned around as she swirled it with her middle finger. Liana can be seen sitting in a high chair, facing the bar counter.Few more moments had passed of Liana staring at the sweating glass. The ice is slowly melting, diluting the drink. Before the taste gets bland, Liana took a hold of the glass and chugged the alcohol. It created a scorching heat in her throat as she swallowed it down her stomach."I need one more," Said by Liana to the bartender available without leaving her eyes on the empty glass. She figured more alcohol would temporarily erase her exhaustion from work."You sure, ma'am? You look drunk already,"Liana averted her gaze to the early-thirties man with wrinkled forehead. Annoyance kicked in quickly hearing something she didn't want to hear."Isn't it the purpose of being here?"Both the bartender and Liana let their attention be taken by the tall man who walked close. He looked stunningly fierce with his gray polo and c
"What makes you so eager to get her? Dude, she's not even Stella!"Raven's voice filled the whole conference room. From standing between seats, he pulled out a chair and occupied it."She looks a lot like her. If I can't be with Stella anymore, at least have someone looking like her," Kai raised his left brow at Raven.Raven rolled his eyes. He's now close to believing his friend had gone insane from yearning Stella."I thought you're smart? Why don't you just move on?"Kai's brows creased. He felt insulted by what he heard. Raven made it sound like he's gone stupid for not being over his past lover."You know what? Get out," Kai pointed to the door with an irritated face, still.Raven massaged the bridge of his nose. What runs in his mind is how Kai is not growing up. Kai still doesn't want anyone blocking his life choices, no matter how bad it is. What's right in his mind is automatically right. No one shall tell him what to do."Didn't you hear me?" Kai once again spoke after the s
Liana nervously sat on the seat in front of the dean's table. For some reason, she received news that the dean is calling for her due to a very important discussion. Is it a salary raise? A promotion? Or bad news? "Miss Garcia. So uhm… I called you here to announce that you're not gonna be able to teach here anymore. We're firing you," Liana's lips parted in shock. It was very confusing and astounding news. In panic, her mind started digging for a possible reason why, but she didn't find one. "Dean, I don't get it…" The dean sighed. "We needed to cut off teachers–" "But the teachers are just enough, dean," Liana argued. She didn't mean to be disrespectful, but the sudden decision doesn't make sense for her. "I'm sorry, miss Garcia. I cannot do anything about it anymore. You may pack your things and leave within this day," Liana thought about her family. They need her. Samuel needs his medications; it shouldn't be stopped or else something might happen to him again. "Miss Garci
