Marnie drove in silence as she took me back to where Alpha Grayson was waiting for me. I had never seen her so quiet, it was as if a ghost was sitting beside me and not my best friend. As we came closer to the border Marnie pulled over, I could see the Alpha's car ahead, his headlights on as if to lead me through the dark. Marnie turned to look at me, her face was stained with mascara from her tears. She looked completely defeated as she pulled me into a tight embrace.
"Laila, I am so sorry", she whispered into my neck.
"I know".
I held on to my friend, I sent her waves of pure love. I hoped she would understand that this wasn't her fault, she couldn't be blamed for what my destiny had in store for me.
As I pulled away from our embrace I could feel a tingle in my chest, it was as if I was being beckoned toward the Alpha, our mate bond growing as it could sense we're close to one another. I stepped out of the car and into the headlights glow, taking a deep breath and not looking back I walked towards the Alpha and towards my new life, praying Goddess would take pity on me and change my fate somehow.
As we drove through the night I stared out the window, not daring to look at the man seated beside me. He may be my mate, but I was still loyal to my pack and I was determined to make him see that. We continued through the Dark Moon territory, though theirs was much the same as my own land, surrounded by lush forest, it still felt different. My wolf and I could sense we weren't in our own lands. We drove for a while before the sun began to rise, its warm orange light was comforting as it lit up my surroundings. The forest was still rich around us, but I noticed the small scatters of houses and buildings within it. I couldn't help but feel excited as I pressed my face up against the glass. Before last night I had never stepped foot into the Dark Moons territory and very rarely left our town at all. Everything was new to me as I wound down the window to breathe in the pine-scented air, it was cool and welcoming as it skimmed across my face. As I continued to take in my surrounding the car turned down a long road that seemed to disappear behind the trees. We continued down this road for half an hour before we came to stop in front of a beautiful wrought iron gate, intricate designs swirled around what looked to be a moon set in the middle of the huge gate. They slowly began to open as we drove through and I could see dark figures trotting through the trees as I looked back.
"They must be the some of the Alphas patrol team, I wonder how far we are from the packhouse, I'm desperate for a hot shower and a snooze", I said to Amara. She had been unusually quiet during the trip here, though I couldn't blame her. She, like me, was torn between her loyalties to her mate, and her pack and I could tell she had already grown attached to Alpha Grayson in the time we had spent with him.
"Hmm", was her only response.
Once we had passed the gates we continued to drive for another 15 minutes before a town came into view. While my home had in no way been considered 'old' or boring, the Dark Moons capital was utterly breathtaking. Modern houses and buildings lined the streets, fountains and gardens littered through the town square. It was quiet as most people would still be asleep, that was fine with me. As much as I was excited to be experiencing something new, my fear of being in the enemies territory hadn't subsided, would these people accept me? Would I be feared, or mocked?
Another 10 minutes had gone by before we reached another driveway. There was no gate, but trees lined across the side of the path perfectly as if they were guiding our way. We came to a large modern style home, it was crafted out of dark wood and the windows that were lined up across the walls reached the ceilings. I was amazed, for some reason I envisioned the packhouse to be like some kind of dark spooky castle, with dungeon vibes, but this was truly beautiful. It was like a modern-day cabin in the woods...if cabins came in mansion size.
I didn't notice that while I had been taking in the view in front of me, so had the Alpha, except in his eyes I was the view. I sighed as once again his face was unreadable, though I thought for a second I could see a hint of softness in his emerald eyes. Wordlessly he climbed out from behind the steering wheel and helped me lug my bags inside. We walked through the well-lit foyer and up the dark timber stairs. The modern theme from the outside of the house continued on the inside as I took note of the warm creams, soft browns and cool greys that coloured the interior. We passed many doors and after walking for what felt like a mile with my heavy suitcases trailing behind me we stopped at a pair of dark double doors. Alpha Grayson stopped and turned to look at me, he thought for a moment and paused before he continued to open the doors. Once again I was amazed, the room itself was huge, possibly the size of half of our packhouse back home. In the middle of the room was the largest bed I had ever seen, it could probably fit close to 5 grown men. I blushed as I could feel Grayson's eyes watching me, the black swirls once again trying to overtake his emerald green. He pulled out a remote from his pocket and pressed a button, my mouth dropped as a flat-screen emerged from the base of the bed and he chuckled as he watched my shocked face continue to take in the room around us. Across from the bed was a beautifully ornate fireplace, with comfy chairs and lounges positioned around it. Behind the bed was an unsurprisingly large bathroom, you couldn't have a room of this size and have a broom closet for a bathroom. The shower was of an open design and had a raindrop shower head above it, as well as two shower heads on either side. The centre of the room took all the attention as an enormous bath sat in the middle. It was made out of marble, matching the walls surrounding it, and I could see the jets beckoning me to jump in. Tearing myself away from it I continued to explore the far side of the room where there was a fully stocked bar with a pair of double doors stood out from beside it. I opened them to reveal what felt like a miniature clothing store. Rows and rows of clothes were neatly hung up or folded away, shoes were lined up in their own shelves and there was an island full of accessories taking up the centre of the room, it was only when I looked in the wall-length mirror and saw Alpha Grayson's reflection did I realize that I was surrounded by men's clothes.
"Ok, so I'm assuming this is your room. Well done you it's stunning, but where is mine?", I asked.
A smirk appeared across the Alpha's face as he took a step towards me.
"This is your room", he replied.
I frowned in response.
"You're my mate, where else would you stay? And besides, isn't there a saying, 'Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?' ".
I was livid, not only at his idea that I would share a room with him but also at Amara who was failing at trying to be quietly jumping for joy.
"No, this isn't happening", I said, shaking my head.
"It's either here or outside, Laila".
"I'll take my chances outside, thanks".
Grayson strode over to where I stood, his eyes dark as he lifted me into his arms. I kicked my legs up and hit my fists across his back, he was unphased as if I wasn't even there. I could hear him turn the shower on before he sat me down directly underneath the cold stream of water. I screamed as he blocked my way out, looking down at me.
"You need to cool down, little girl. Have a shower and some sleep, then we will talk". And with a smug look on his face, he made his way out of the room.
Furiously I stripped off my gold dress and shoes. I scrubbed viciously at my face, hating the fact that I found the smell of the soap entirely delicious... It smelt like Grayson. As I combed out my wet hair I sourced out a pair of sweat shorts and a tank top from one of my suitcases. I fought back a yawn as I looked out of the floor to ceiling window. The view was stunning, I could see the forest surrounding me and made a mental note to explore it as soon as I could. I cursed to myself as I walked towards the mammoth bed, I didn't want to follow the Alpha's orders but I hadn't slept for 24 hours and I was close to collapsing from exhaustion. I could smell the Alpha's warm and comfortable scent surrounding me, it lulled me to sleep as I fell into the soft cushions and closed my eyes.
When I woke up it was late afternoon, the house was as quiet and still as it had been when I had first gone to sleep. I stretched and braced myself as I left the comfortable room. I found myself suddenly desperate for sustenance and quickly sourced out the kitchen. I quickly made myself at home and gulped down a glass of water while I made myself a BLT, if I'm being forced to be here I may as well do it with bacon, I chuckled at myself.
"What's so funny?", I heard an all too familiar voice call out. Amara's ears immediately pricked up as she looked around for our mate.
"Oh, sorry. I was just really hungry and when I saw there was bacon I couldn't help myself", I blushed, suddenly feeling embarrassed.
"Don't be shy", Alpha Grayson said almost softly, "This is your home too now, and I've made sure no one will disturb us while you get comfortable here".
While I wanted to fight him on where my home truly was, I was too hungry and exhausted still. Instead, I surprised us both.
"Would you like some?", I asked, my blush continuing to bloom across my pale cheeks.
Amara practically did a backflip, she was delighted at the thought of taking care of our mate, as mates should. I reminded her this was no ordinary mate situation, but she ignored me and continued to dance around in a blissful state.
Alpha Grayson looked slightly taken aback but was quick to recover when he eagerly replied that he would love a BLT.
I moaned in pleasure as I took my first bite, a low growl escaped the Alpha's lips as I realised her had heard me and was watching me as I licked the crumbs from my lips. My cheeks were now scarlet red, "Sorry... I just haven't eaten anything since the BBQ and I just love food, although it's missing my mum's homemade aioli", I frowned at the memory of my mother, her face wet and devastated as I tore myself away from her arms last night.
"BBQ?", Grayson replied, seeming interested in both what I had to say and my reaction to this simple sandwich.
"Oh, my family threw me a BBQ for my birthday...before I left for the club". My voice trailed off as I remembered the events from the previous night.
As we finished off our food I stepped outside onto the deck that wrapped around the bottom half of the house. I breathed in the fresh air, which soon mingled with Grayson's scent as he stood next to me. I was aware of how close we were, our arms almost touching. I felt a sense of longing as I wanted to reach out and stroke his arm, or simply hold his hand. But I had to try and fight this mate bond, I had to make him see we can't be together.
"If I bring up our sleeping arrangements will you throw me in the shower again?", I asked.
"Perhaps", was his response.
While I wanted to continue the battle, minus the shower chucking, exhaustion washed over me once again. I sighed as I turned to walk towards the door. As if reading my mind, Alpha Grayson scooped me into his arms and carried me to the bedroom. His comforting scent was again lulling me to sleep as he placed me gently into the bed. I felt him climb in beside me, his warm arm wrapping around me as he whispered into my ear, "Goodnight, my little Laila".
I woke up to find something warm draped across me, was it a cat? Wait, I didn't have a cat... As I slowly began to pull my senses from their comfortable slumber everything hit me at once, his scent, the unfamiliar room and everything that had happened in the past 48 hours came back to me. I slowly pulled myself away from the Alpha's sleeping body, I turned to look at him once I was safely out of the bed. He looked beautiful, the gentle sunlight that was creeping its way around the blinds gave his face a slight glow, he looked so at peace as I watched his chest rise and fall softly. His chocolate brown hair was tousled and a light stubble was starting to form on his chin. My eyes were drawn to the tattoo that went across his arm to his chest, it was half-hidden underneath his tank top and I yearned to trace my fingers along the patterns, to commit each detail to memory. I yanked myself from my own thoughts, careful not to wake up Amara, she would only encourage me to pursue my desire
Authors note:Hey guys! So this chapter includes the snippet you read in the introduction. I've added some more dialogue in this chapter in amongst what you have already read, but haven't changed the actual introduction chapter... I'm too scared I will stuff it up somehow or just confuse people who might re-read it... I hope you don't mind! The footsteps were coming closer, panic started to take over as I realized I was both in my underwear and in enemy territory... What if they didn't know I was mated to their Alpha? Or worse, what if they did know and they were here to kill me?I wanted to dive behind the stream of the waterfall, but the footsteps came to a halt before I had a chance. Standing at the water's edge, taking all of me in, was Alpha Grayson. His eyes roamed my body, watching each water droplet roll down my curves. His eyes paused on my wet bra, his gaze ignited a fire within me. My cheeks began to burn as my nipple
Three days had passed since I had moved into Grayson's room, and during this time I had worn minimal clothing. The days seemed to drag on as I followed the same routine; Wake up, explore the forest, swim, watch Netflix and wait for Grayson to return from his office. I was growing restless and bored, but I was still hesitant to venture off the property, especially since Grayson was still not allowing visitors to the packhouse. Though the days were monotonous, I waited with anticipation for nightfall. As soon as I could hear his car pull into the drive I would race into Grayson's arms and devour him in whatever room we crashed into first. We still hadn't taken the next step in our relationship, taking each other fully, but that didn't mean we were having any less of an amazing time. Each night Grayson took me to new heights, bringing me more pleasure than I thought was possible. I was euphoric, and I hadn't had a single negative thought since the night I decided to give my mate a fair
I demanded answers, and Grayson knew I wasn't going to let what happened today go until I had them. He led me through the packhouse to a room that was nestled in a back corner, I hadn't been down to this area before. The room looked like it was Grayson's home office. The interior was rich, dark in colour while the room itself smelled of genuine leather, mixed with Grayson's scent. As I plonked down on a black leather sofa, Grayson poured himself an amber looking drink. He gestured towards the bar, making it known I could help myself. I declined, I was anxious to hear what he was about to tell me but I wanted my mind to be clear as I took all of the information in.Grayson sighed as he turned to face me, his eyes were serious and held no emotion as he once again retreated behind his walls."What do you know about the current animosity between our two packs".I stared at him, placing my own walls up. For a brief moment, I no longer felt li
"Alpha, it's the mutt who spoke against Laila, he's left... He's gone rogue".As soon as those words had left Jaxon's mouth, I could feel Grayson's entire body tense. I could almost swear that the car was vibrating, not because of the engine but from his sheer anger."WHAT", Grayson roared."He spoke to me via mind link a few minutes ago...", Jaxon hesitated."AND?!", Grayson's anger continued to grow."Sir... He said to pass on a message to you. 'Tell the Alpha I said good luck, he's going to need it. And to make the most of his bitch while he can'...". Jaxon shuffled on his feet uncomfortably. We both waited anxiously for Grayson to respond, his hands were white as he gripped onto the steering wheel as if his life depended on it."Find him. Find him and bring him to me, alive", Grayson snarled before he sent the car flying down the road and towards the packhouse.I sat in silence,
"What is it?", I asked. My once warm, lust filled body turned to ice with panic. Grayson roughly ran his hands through his hair, I inched off the desk as I could hear his panting quicken with anger."The rogue mutt... They've lost his scent. He's gone underground"."That's a good thing, isn't it? He's hiding because he's scared and is probably waiting for the heat to die down before running off again, right?", I asked, a hint of hope rang through my voice."Or, he's laying low and scheming something. Don't be so naive, Laila! You saw the hatred in his eyes, he threatened you for fucks sake!".I shivered as Grayson's words echoed throughout the office."We have to leave. We need to get you back to the packhouse, back to safety. I'll have Jaxon double the guards when he gets back"."Why are you so panicky?", I asked as I watched my mate all but rip his hair out, "Surely he wouldn't be stupid enough to come back? He woul
As I lay in the giant bathtub, I could feel my excitement and nervousness grow. My stomach was fluttering as if a swarm of butterflies had taken over it.Did I really want to use my virginity as a bargaining chip? I couldn't help but wonder.I made sure to prepare myself with only the finest soaps and moisturizers. The bathroom swirled with the delicious scent of vanilla as I dried my hair and carefully applied my make up. As I looked at myself in the mirror, my black hair looked as if it was floating in delicate waves and my eyes betrayed me as my anxiety shone through. I took a few deep breaths before I positioned myself on the bed, waiting for Grayson to come home.My ears pricked as I was on high alert, I could hear the hum of Grayson's sports car pulling in to the drive and my heart began to hammer away in my chest. My doubts and second thoughts should have been enough to will me away from this plan, but I was already in too deep a
Instinctively I locked the car doors, though I knew that would be hopeless. A locked door stood no chance against a werewolf, let alone three of them."Get out of the car, Laila", the wolf I knew said. A sickening smirk formed on his face as the other two wolves approached my jeep.I sat frozen, running through the possible scenarios in my head. I was a confident fighter and was instantly grateful for the hours of training my dad had put me through, but I was no match against the three men. I was too far from the territory line to alert Grayson's men, but I could still call for help, I only hoped it would come...Searching through my mind for my father's presence I sent him a quick message, telling him my location and the possible threat that was in front of me. As soon as I sent him the message the two wolves stopped on either side of the jeep. Amara leapt into control, while I remained in human form, she gave me her strength to fight them off as be

I brushed my long hair into soft, gentle waves. Taking a deep breath I looked at myself in the mirror and saw doubt flicker in my eyes.Me? ... a Luna?"Stop it", a voice commanded in my mind.Grayson.I could feel his pressence in my mind before I heard him. He was soothing against the anxiety that had begun to swell up inside me."You have more than proven yourself worthy of becoming this packs Luna, and I am honoured to be your Alpha mate"I hugged myself as his words flowed though me."I miss you", I said."I know, but I had to leave early to make sure everything was in place for today. I tried to not scrunch my nose as the smoke from the pyres tickled my nostrils. My eyes stung from the tears that began to trickle from them and my fingers pulled nervously at the hem of my black skirt.Grayson stood a few feet ahead of me, he was emotionless and though he had attempted to keep me out, I could feel his guilt eating away at him.I have been to funerals before, but none could compare to this.Grayson turned to me and took my hand in his. Together we walked through the crowd and back towards the packhouse as the flames began to lick away hungrily at the wooden pyres. It was werewolf tradition to burn the bodies in the event of a death, so that our wolves may be set free from our bodies to roam the afterlife. Our ashes are then scattered in the forest, where we belong. A buffet had been set up in one of the packhouse's giant living rooms for the entire pack to attend, but upon returning home Grayson retreated to his office.&
*** Grayson's POV ***Thud, thud, thud.Thud, thud, thud. All I could hear was the constant rhythm of my heartbeat, picking up its pace as it thundered through my chest and blocking out all other sounds.Thud, thud, thud.Fear. Fear was all that I was sure of at this moment.Cold, panicked, frozen... I was paralysed and I couldn't remember a time I had felt this way before. The fear of losing the one I loved more than anything, the one I was born to be with... it was consuming my very being, and now I feared for my mate's very existence.Laila had pushed me.I had seen Slade and his bitch mate slink out from behind the trees... I wanted to charge them, to take what was owed to me, his life. But they were out to play dirty, and the gun in
*** Laila's POV *** I was quick to leap into the action. Though I was in my wolf form and could take a back seat, I decided to stay focused and alert. Amara and I needed each other if we were going to make it out of this alive. As Grayson and his wolf lunged forward, the wolves behind him showed no hesitance as they followed suit, their howls echoing off the trees that surrounded us.Amara sprinted to keep up with Grayson. Though I was sure he could handle himself, both Amara and I couldn't help our animalistic desire to protect our mate.My eyes flickered towards Slade, he was creeping away like the snake that he is. I wasn't shocked he was hiding away... I assumed he had no intentions of fighting today, at least not in a clean way.
*** Grayson's POV ***As we stepped into the clearing, I was touched by the amount of support I had received from my pack. Wolves had travelled far and wide to fight for us, their pride in their pack and respect for me was something many Alphas could only dream of having.I could sense my mate's shock. I turned to find her frozen in place and scanning the many faces around us. Her caramel brown eyes were alight with wonder as she took in her surroundings, pride came off of her in waves as her eyes settled on my own.Seeing her here, about to go into what may possibly be the biggest fight of our lives, brought such anger to my heart. Though I was proud to have her as my mate, she was strong, compassionate and confident in fighting for her pack as their future Luna, I h
"My love, wake up"."Hmm?", I asked, my voice laced deeply with sleep."They're almost here. The fights about to begin"...The words met my ears, but it took a while for my brain to fully understand what Grayson had just said." "They're almost here" " ...My body shivered at the thought of Slade and his fighters coming to our home, wanting to tear up everything and everyone we loved. He wouldn't win, I would make damn sure of that."Are you ok?", Grayson asked as he paused dressing himself to look at me."Yes", I said as I shook off all remaining sleep from my mind, "Are you?".Grayson had fought before, many a time, but this time it was different. Through our bond, I had access to a lot of his mind, and while I could feel he always entered a fight confident, this time he was hesitant."Yes"."Liar".Grayson sighed as he approached me. He was dressed all
Three days had passed since we had arrived back home.I had barely seen Grayson as he was busy evacuating the town, welcoming warriors that had travelled to help us in the impending battle, and training those who were willing to fight.I myself had been busy teaching the women all that I knew, Blake even offered to help out... whenever he and Brynn could keep their hands off each other for more than 25 minutes. It was still strange for me to see them together, my big brother and my sister in law, but I was beyond happy for them."Hey sis, could I talk to you for a second?", Blake approached me as our training session for the afternoon was coming to a close."Yeah sure", I smiled as he led me away from the group, "What's up?".I could see concern beginning to form on his face as he looked down at me, he shuffled on his feet uncomfortably as I stared into his eyes, silently demanding an answer.
