CHAPTER SEVEN: may the best man win

Eryx sneered at his brother with a hateful gaze that could burn the whole building down.

“Come on brother. Are you scared?” He questioned playfully as sat on the chair that was in front of zephyr.

“I think it's the other way round”. Zephyr counteracted with a straight gaze as he tried to fix the sleeves of his hand made shirt.

“Let's cut the small talk, shall we?” Eryx's eyes narrowed, scanning him like he was some underling he was sizing up. “You’re probably wondering why I bothered to come all the way here.”

Zephyr smiled inwardly. He knows exactly why he was here, but he wanted to hear him say it. He gestured with one of his fingers for him to continue.

“I am here because of Nova. Stay away from her. Do not think because you finally found us you can get back into her life. Before you do that you will have to face my wrath”. He tilted his head slightly, a mockery of casualness, but the tension in his jaw betrayed the control it took to keep his temper in check.

Zephyr slammed his hands on the table making his secretary flinch a little bit. This isn't good as the two young masters were like cats and rats.

“YOU!” The corners of his mouth twitched suppressing his anger.

“Who the fuck do you think you are to come to my office and give me a small talk about my woman”. His eyes were sharp and unyielding.

“Do not call her that”. Eryx said as he stood up from his chair.

“She is my woman Eryx. Do not think I forgot what you did to me together with Tiana. You separated me from the woman I love and destroyed me”. He said as he pointed towards his legs that were now disabled.

He scoffed looking at Zephyr who appeared like a joke to him. “You were fucking weak, all I needed was a fake video, and you fell for it”.

“What happened to trust and till death do us apart huh!” His tone dripped with incredulity. You were so stupid.

“I admit I was”. Zephyr's tune came out rigid and with confidence.

“I know I made a mistake, but I know what you did, and I will use it against you. You have no idea what is coming for you”. Zephyr threatened.

Eryx was scared for a moment because the expression on his face was something else. When his brother makes a threat, it is usually serious.

But he knows exactly how to deal with this. This was just the beginning, an introduction to his grand plan.

“You can make all the threats you want to, but it's all a bluff.” Eryx said. “You have nothing against me. Nova will never believe you and Almighty zephyr Lockwood can't even walk so”….. He dragged his words as his lips curved upwards.

“Nova isn't stupid…she is very smart and would find out the truth”. He said without struggle.

Eryx smirk widened, the kind of grin that was less about amusement and more about domination. He walked forward as if closing the space would make his words sting deeper. His eyes glinted with something sharp and malicious, locking onto zephyr like a predator cornering its prey.

“I only came here to warn you. Every other thing you say isn't my concern because Nova will only see me for the rest of her life. I used four years to make sure of that”. 

After those words, he immediately turned to walk away, but his brother's voice stopped him.

“Wait. Don't you want to see me walk”? His words immediately brought eryx to a halt.

“Walk?”. The word sounded foreign to his ears. He turned slowly to face Zephyr and was so surprised to see him standing on his feet without any struggle.

“How are you standing?” His eyes widened, the icy confidence that usually hardened his gaze melted into something raw and unguarded. His lips parted slightly, as if he wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words.

“You lied?” His eyebrows furrowed.

“This is just to show you the length I will go to get her back. First I will gain her pity”. His gaze hardened.

“You”..eryx couldn't complete his words. He has been defeated in this round of his game. What did he expect?

Zephyr was surprisingly smart and cunning. He was their parents favourite. That favouritism made his skin crawl that it made him kill their father with his own hands in his hospital bed. Zephyr made their mother dislike him as he was seen as the problem child.

He keeps taking everything from him. However, not Nova. He will take everything that belongs to zephyr. He may have won now but that will only propel him to up his plans.

“Fuck” He cursed before walking straight to the door. He opened it aggressively and slammed it with the same intensity he used to open it.

As soon as he left, zephyr fell to the ground, his weakness was his legs and of course the love he had for that one woman.

“Sir, his secretary Ethan ran towards him. Why did you do that sir? Your legs are just healing, and the doctor warned you to take it gradually”. His wide eyes and shallow breaths betrayed the panic bubbling beneath the surface.

“I don't have such time. I have to keep up with him. If he notices my weakness he will have the upper hand but as far he is only aware of the weakness that he and I share he will be useless”.

Ethan's gaze relaxes as he realises something. It may seem as if he and Eryx had nothing in common, but that wasn't true.

They had the same weakness which was Nova and with that, Zephyr stood a chance. He guessed this was where this quote fit.

“May the best man win”.

“Notify William that I will be going to visit Nova at the entertainment industry today”. He said to him to make his butler aware.

“Yes sir”. Ethan answered as he helped Zephyr to sit on his wheelchair but suddenly, his phone started to ring.
