JOKER - SWEENEY

Darlon Sweeney

The room was plunged into shadows. Black candles arranged in a circle faintly lit up the room, illuminating part of my face. In my hands, an ancient armoire lay open, containing forbidden runes.

What was I doing? I wasn't even sure.

I took a deep breath. I began, tracing the symbols on the floor that would anchor the magic.

When I had completed the ritual, I muttered a few words in an ancient language, my voice resonating through the empty hall and raising every hair on my body. In the center of the symbol, the shadows contorted to form the silhouette of a woman.

Then suddenly there she and I were, in an old cell with gold bars, an old window overlooking the moon. She stared at me confused, and the dim light showed me her black eyes, making me shudder inside.

"Meridian…" I whispered hesitantly; she seemed fine, but when she faced me and I didn't see her beautiful eyes, I felt the pain of knowing that it was because of me, and that perhaps I had lost her

  • The alpha's daughter predestined to his enemy    1 - MOON CELEBRATION

Meridian WaterMOON CELEBRATIONThe first rays of sunlight filtered through the leaves, softly illuminating the room's interior. Deep in the forest, I awoke, feeling a pulsating anticipation in my heart for the day ahead. Rising from bed, I looked out the window, watching the sun rise before me. A special energy filled the air. Today was the full moon celebration, a sacred event for my family. It was a time when our pack came together to honor our ancestors and strengthen the bonds that united us as a community.I jumped out of bed, eager to complete my morning routine. Soon, I went downstairs, the scent of freshly baked bread greeting me warmly.“Good morning, family!” I said, addressing my father, mother, and younger brother, who were already seated and ready for breakfast.“You’re up early, young lady,” my mother teased with a faint smile.“It’s a miracle! Could it be a sign from the moon goddess?” My eight-year-old brother mocked, grinning.I sat at the table with a smile, but cou

Meridian WaterWhen we emerged from the darkness of the trees and entered, I felt all eyes on us, the howling stopped, and a reverent silence took over the room. I felt a shiver run down my spine, and the wave of love spread toward my family. My father smiled, and we headed towards the structure where we sat to receive support and tribute. After we are in front of the entire pack in our prominent position, my father begins. With a strong and imposing voice, he praises his family's lineage and the importance of keeping traditions alive. As he spoke, I looked closely at every face around me. Feeling a deep connection with each one, and it was as if a strange feeling took over me, as if this act, no matter how small, was extremely necessary. The celebration continued with dances, songs and ancestral stories shared around the bonfire. And I felt surrounded by an aura of gratitude, knowing that this was my home, my family. In one of the dancing moments, as confided by my best friend, Renan

Meridian WaterDarkness enveloped the training room, where I was being trained to serve my king, Fondark Sweeney. My determined look showed my commitment to the rigorous training that lay ahead. All around me, the shadows seemed to come to life, dancing and undulating like strange beings. My instructor Tom watched me minutely, every step I took, every blow I threw, he seemed to always be focused on me and that left me intrigued."You must learn to hunt with precision and efficiency," he said in a deep, enigmatic voice. "Your mission is to protect the kingdom from the threats that lurk in the shadows. This is your purpose as a Huntress."I just nodded, absorbing his words. I was determined to prove myself worthy of this role and use my skills to protect the kingdom, that was my duty. After all, I was a renegade. I didn't know where it came from, it wasn't a demon, and I didn't remember anything from my past. All I knew was that the king had picked me up from the gutter and raised me. H

Meridian WaterI entered the grand room, where the imposing King Fondark sat on his obsidian throne. I had been summoned to a special hearing, but I had no idea what to expect. As my footsteps echoed around the room, I felt the intensity of everyone's gaze on me. Powerful warriors and influential advisors watched me with a mixture of curiosity. It was an honor and a challenge to be recognized in front of so many important figures. When I finally arrived before the throne, I knelt as a sign of respect. The king's gaze fell on me, analyzing me carefully."Meridian, the excellent hunter", said the king in a deep and imposing voice. "Your deeds and skills as a hunter have echoed throughout the kingdom. You have distinguished yourself as one of our most valiant defenders."I felt a mixture of pride and gratitude for the recognition. But I kept my head up, attentive to his words, memorizing them to always remember who I was.One of the most valiant defenders of the kingdom of Umbra."It is

Meridian WaterToday, Prince Sweeney would be on the east side of Umbra, where he would see how the region is doing and whether the guardians are doing their duty. The journey would be made by royal carriage, where we would stop in at least three areas to rest, as it would be a three-day journey.I had already been serving as his protector for a month, and being constantly on the move as his shadow wasn't difficult, because today would be the first time he would actually sleep outside the royal house. I had studied every spot where we would stop, assessing each necessary escape point in case of a riot attack.Rebel demons who didn't respect royalty.I fulfilled my basic needs and put on leather pants along with a crop top, adding my dagger to my waist, and two other small daggers inside the leather boots that went up to my knee. I tied my hair into a ponytail and headed outside, knowing that the servants were in charge of carrying my suitcase to the carriage. When I arrived outside, I

Meridian WaterI rebuked my thought as I imagined him taking a shower, my body tingled in response and I swore under my breath. What was happening to me? In two years, although I had slept with many men, I never had time to play on a mission, especially when that mission was to protect the prince and the target of my thoughts was the PRINCE.I ignored the excitement that invaded me when an image of his bare chest came to my mind, and decided to see what there was for us to eat. Pork bathed in blood and a glass of what were probably tears. Yes. Dark wizards often feed on human suffering, tears of bitterness are one of the most served cups at parties and public places. Nothing new under the shadow. When he came out of the room wearing only soft cloth pants and no shirt, I almost wanted to get out of there. The environment seemed to acquiesce quite quickly, and although we were already living together, doomed to hell, the heat of that body under my vision was much more threatening. His w

PRINCE SWEENEYShe told me to go back to sleep. As if it were that simple.I closed my eyes, feigning indifference, my breathing steady and calm, but I was far from calm. My mind was restless, my thoughts jumbled. Meridian's voice lingered in the air, soft and disturbed, and the faint scent of her sweat mixed with her natural fragrance - wild and pure - invaded my senses. It was maddening. I had to fight the instinct to get closer, to breathe her in.Instead, I forced myself to stay still, my muscles tense under the blanket. I could feel her beside me, just a breath away, her presence like a flame burning dangerously close to my skin. The darkness of the room offered me no refuge. Her words echoed in my mind.Wars, death, chaos, creatures... she dreamed. Of chaos, of loss, of her forgotten past. She spoke about it so casually, but I could hear the weight in her voice, the fragility she tried to hide behind her stoicism.Against my will, I opened my eyes, turning my head only slightly.

  • The alpha's daughter predestined to his enemy    42 Tell me your version.

Tell me your version.Meridian When I woke up, I was too tired to say anything. The price I needed to pay had arrived. In the mirror, I saw black eyes. The dark magic hadn't taken hold of my mind, but it had vulnerably taken hold of my body. It was taking me over little by little, and with the gaps in my memory, I felt I was getting weaker and weaker to fight. It was the price of saving the prince; I didn't die, but the dark magic remains with us, taking over our identity little by little and turning us dark. I knew the consequences.I also knew that now I could die because, in their eyes, perhaps I really wasn't the she-wolf they wanted so much. I was a dark renegade. It was Eden who entered the room, snapping me out of my daydreams and reminding me of the episode that made me black out. When I turned to face him, I saw the shock on his face. He stepped back for a second, and I just sighed."I wasn't taken." I assured him."How does it feel?" He whispered, still at a distance."That

ELEANOR SWEENEY: SWEENEYPrince Darlon Night fell over the palace, but the tranquility it promised seemed like a distant dream. The main hall was full of whispers and laughter, all directed at the new guest: Eleanor Sweeney, my distant cousin. Tall, imposing, and with a smile that seemed to contain secrets, she had arrived with the air of someone who already owned everything, even what wasn't hers yet.I watched her from afar, sitting in an ornate armchair near the fireplace. My father, always calculating, radiated satisfaction as he introduced Eleanor to some advisors and nobles. She was accurately what he had hoped for: a symbol of the union between two powerful magical and dark lineages. A tool for his expansion, a means of conquering territories without a rebellion. But for me, she was just another piece on Fondark Sweeney's board. And I, the other piece that he moved as he pleased."Cousin!" Eleanor's voice was sweet, but there was a cold determination in it. She walked over to m

TRUTH IS A RELATIVE CONCEPTMeridian Water. The moon was high, illuminating with a thin glow that seemed to reflect the state of my mind, while the shadows tried to take hold of me. Everything was getting more and more intense. I wish I could have chosen to be in my room. But I was forced to go down to the counting moon. The little boy, Eden, had already been talking at the top of his lungs about what the celebration was like, and I was so tired that I just let him talk and pretend to be interested. Maybe he'd tell me how to escape. My head was spinning with so much information, and when I was finally able to breathe. I found myself leaning against a rock, and if I wasn't mistaken. I caught a glimpse of Renan sitting on it earlier, with Lauren. He had disappeared.I took a deep breath, trying to maintain my posture and control. Not to give in.Don't give in.Don't give in.“There's no point in fighting the inevitable, Meridian.” I muttered to myself, feeling the weight of those words

39 - I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE ANYMORERenan FolderI sat in that clearing, unable to move, stuck replaying every detail of the training session with Meridian in my mind. Tonight was the Full Moon Gathering—a night where we all sat around the fire, listening to the stories of our ancestors. It was supposed to be a beautiful night, but I couldn’t focus on any of it. My mind was too full of intrusive thoughts. The clearing had been decorated, and it looked beautiful. The moon was already creeping into the space, and I used to find comfort in its light, but tonight, it felt more like a spotlight, exposing the parts of me I preferred to keep buried.People were starting to arrive, but I kept my distance, leaning against the same rock where I had once talked to Meridian before she was taken. Lauren appeared beside me, carrying a jar of flowers. She always had this lightness about her, as if nothing could really shake her, but her eyes told a different story.“So…” she started, setting th

38 - I AM NOT ONE OF YOUMeridian WaterThe walk back to my room was long and heavy with silence. That last exchange of glances still hung between us, thickening the air with every step. When we finally arrived, he opened the door and stood at the entrance like a sentinel."Get in," he said, his voice mechanical, devoid of any emotion."Back to the prisoner quarters," I mocked."That’s what you are," he shot back, his eyes sparking with a fury that hadn’t been there before."How cute." I smirked. "Feels good, doesn’t it? I’d love to see all this power when I’m not vulnerable!" I crossed my arms as I stepped inside."If you were as good as you think, you wouldn’t be here," he replied, a cynical smile tugging at his lips. "Honestly, for someone with such a reputation, you were terrible.""Easy to say when I wasn’t in a position to fight. I’d love a match—just you and me," I challenged, masking how much his words stung."I’d love to end this ridiculous charade. But unfortunately, I can’t

37 – THAT SOUNDS... PATHETIC!Meridian WaterThe air around us was charged, electric, as I followed Renan down the narrow path. Every step he took was an annoying reminder that I was in enemy territory, under the escort of a man who seemed eager to put me in my place."Don't try to run," he said, not even bothering to look back at me. His voice was calm, but there was something about his tone that irritated me to my core."Oh, right, because I'd be dumb enough to try to escape unarmed in a forest full of wolves. Have you actually heard of my reputation?" I shot back, laced with sarcasm. He stopped abruptly, forcing me to halt before I could crash into his back. When he turned to face me, his expression was ice-cold."Yeah, I’ve heard plenty about the blood and chaos you’ve left behind. Wow, what a brilliant woman." His words dripped with sarcasm."Thanks," I said with a smirk. The muscle in his jaw twitched, and for a second, I thought he was either going to lunge at me or throw some

36: NOTHING CAN BE SAVEDMeridian The surrounding air was heavy, as if shadows were weighing on my shoulders. Everything seemed too loud, and I felt suffocated inside that room with only the window to give me a bit of free air.The sound of dry leaves being crushed under boots rang in my ears; there were creatures roaming the forest; nothing about the place made me feel comfortable. I felt like an intruder; the smell of the damp earth, the sound of the distant streams, and the occasional howl—everything gave me an uneasy feeling…The sound of the door opening drew my attention, and then he appeared, making me narrow my eyes. What was he doing there?“Hi…” Her voice came out low and longing, her blue eyes sparkling.I didn't answer. He stopped a few meters from me, his jaw clenched, his hands in his pockets, I guessed in a tight fist. As if he were trying to contain something that was boiling up inside him. His presence was as suffocating as that room and reminded me of how vulnerable
