For centuries, our ancestors, have been enslaved and forcefully taken to work at Causan Industries. We never discovered how to get to Causan Industries. First of all, they have assassins and camps all around our city to prevent us from looking for them and to take more people. A scientist and professor named Louisiano Alon made a stand to protect us and formed the Aleris Imperial Army by creating elemental and self-generating weapons. The people started to fight back, but it wasn’t enough. Causan Industries started to take our natural resources such as iron, oil, and fuel to make their own weapons, and they were good at it. They created weapons that can easily kill a human being even from a long range and trained the people they enslaved to be assassins with nanotechnology. Louisiano Alon infiltrated Causan Industries, the first to ever succeed. He discovered the true plan of Causan Industries- to make the city fall, literally. Our city is a big island that evolved. We made walls around the edges of the island and underground facilities to improve our security, but the whole island is at stake the moment Louisiano returned to share the information he learned. Not long after, Louisiano was assassinated.

“How long are you going to doze off, Red?” Marco remarked. I blinked and stared at the ceiling. I sat up from my bed and turned to him who was also laying down and obviously dozing off as well.

I rolled my eyes at him. “Shut the fuck up, Marco.”

The door suddenly swung open and we jumped to our feet. The sun from outside surrounded the room and the cold breeze sent chills to my skin. I was still wearing a plain black shirt without my uniform.

“Get your asses out here, Quinscity and Kleighs!” Captain Hiragi called. We immediately wore our uniforms and went outside. The camp was alive as always, almost all of the soldiers were training despite their classes and squad. Our squad was in a different area than everyone else. Captain Hiragi trains us himself.

When we headed to the back of the camp where we train, the others were already there. There are only four of us- me, Marco, Josaiah, and Xy.  I’m a marksman. I use an electrified steel bow that generates its own steel charged arrows. Marco Kleighs is an assassin. He uses daggers that poison the blood of the flesh it is pierced or slashed on. Even the smallest and slightest of cuts can kill the person in a matter of seconds. Josaiah Solace is the warrior, the fighter who has the best combat skills in the squad. He carries laser induced plasma twin blades that shade the color emerald. Xy Caurus is the creator or the inventor. He runs the ground game- creating traps, vision equipment, almost everything essential before battle.

“Today, you will be joined by another squad,” Captain Hiragi started. Xy nudged Josaiah to tease him, probably expecting women to join us. I laughed beneath my breath and Josaiah, who was beside me, slapped my back.

Captain Hiragi glared at us and we froze. “Gabriella Alon and her squad will be joining you later evening.”

Our eyes widened. The Gabriella Alon? The daughter of the general? I heard there’s only three of them in their squad. Gabriella herself, Ace Ledger, and Snow Esther. Those three are the best of the best. Our squad is the main force of offense, but we were never joined by them. Simply put, we attack the pawns, they attack the higher ups, and they succeed all the time. I’ve only seen Snow in action, creating healing and regenerating orbs on the spot for Gabriella, Ace, and other injured people around them.

“Wait, what? Are we serious?” Josaiah asked. The reason we’re this shocked is because we’ve never trained with them before, let alone have a conversation with them. They were like the elites of the whole aleris army. The last time we saw them was only silhouettes of them on top of a mountain above us, sighting the camp.

“Yes. This was ordered by the general herself,” Captain Hiragi said. Speaking of the general, we haven’t seen her in weeks. She usually monitors and observes the training and events here in camp, but I haven’t seen a trace of her lately.

Suddenly, I felt a burst of magnetic pulse behind us, inside the forest. The others sensed it as well, immediately turning with their weapons. Captain Hiragi raised a hand, signaling us to stand down. I observed the forest closely for any movement, but only the sounds of birds and rustling of leaves can be heard.

“There’s some kind of activity happening at least 800 meters from us,” Xy explained while touching the ground. He had a crystal wand sticking inside the ground, the crystal shining.

We looked at Captain Hiragi for his orders but he was staring at the forest with a horrified expression. I sharply inhaled.

“Captain?” Josaiah called. Captain Hiragi breathed and looked at us, his expression now different from before. Now, he looked determined, like he has a plan. I couldn’t understand what was happening except that there was something in the forest either enemy or ally.

“Squad 1-A led by Red Quinscity, you and your team are to investigate the activity said to be 800 meters from here. Eliminate any suspicious looking being on sight,” Captain Hiragi ordered.

I looked at my team and we all nodded at each other. “Yes, sir.” Captain Hiragi immediately went back to camp to report the activity. Me and my team entered the forest slowly in our defense formation. Josaiah was beside me while I was on his right. Marco climbed the trees while Xy set up tracing machinery every 200 meters we pass.

As we reach at least 600 meters, the ground felt moist and unstable. I raised a fist, signaling my team to stop. I looked at the ground and saw that pinches of it were rumbling. When I looked closely, the pebbles of rocks were rumbling as well.

“Xy, what do you make of this?” I asked Xy as I carefully take a handful of soil. There was nothing under it, but they were all lightly rumbling. Xy pressed the frame of his glasses and his right lens turned green.

He knelt to the ground and looked at the ground closely. “There seems to be a machine beneath the soil causing it to rumble. I’m guessing that’s where the magnetic pulse came from,” Xy explained.

Suddenly, a flock of birds came rushing to the sky. We looked up and saw Marco staring at something in front of us. I looked around for any sign of attack, but we were clear. I placed my weapon behind my back and it attached to my uniform, turning translucent.

“Marco! See anything?” I called to him.

Marco looked down and pointed north. “I see the general! She’s at the cliff!”

We all ran to the cliff while Marco hopped between trees above us. When we arrived, that’s where we noticed the ground glowing despite the soil. There was no rumbling but the ground felt like it was cut in half, like it was cracking. General Alon was in front of us, staring at the sea. We stood firmly behind her, waiting for her reaction. She probably sensed us coming already.

“Boys, we have a problem,” she softly said, still looking at the sea. Suddenly, a large wave rose from below, hitting the cliff. The ground shook and we all dropped down, but General Alon remained standing. The ground we were at suddenly collapsed but we were all surprised that we didn’t fall in the water at all.

“What the hell?” Marco exclaimed. The ground we were standing on was gone and we were now standing on a metal platform attached to the ground beside us. When we stood, General Alon was now in front of us.

“Causan Industries is directly corrupting our land and we are slowly collapsing. This is just one of the hundred machines connected around the island, but fortunately, this one only activates once every two weeks,” General Alon explained to us. So that’s why she wasn’t at camp for weeks- she was monitoring the machine. To think that Causan Industires has been secretly planting shit on our island without us noticing is a big downfall to Aleris. How long have they been doing this? Months?

“What about the other machines?” Xy asked.

“Most of them are still inactive, maybe because it still lacks resources. My daughter has been monitoring half of it, travelling around the island to check each one close to camp,” General Alon replied.

Now that explained a few things.

The ground below us completely crumbled, but it’s a good thing that it didn’t extend. If the path that we took collapsed as well, there’s a possibility that it will reach camp and the people will not be prepared to evacuate. We examined the platform and the lower part of it was still stuck to the ground, so we couldn’t see the whole thing. It’s like there was an underground facility near the cliff. “What should we do, General?” Marco asked General Alon. We all stood behind her, waiting for her instructions. A cold breeze whipped past us that sounded like choirs, like it was a message from someone above us. Later on, General Alon turned and looked up, like she was waiting for someone to fall out of the sky. Suddenly, the trees behind us rustled and the birds flew to the sky. General Alon was not alerted, so we remained calm and did no move. Three persons emerged from the forest- one of them was a woman with platinum medium length hair, wearing our uniform with a silve

“Ace looks at us like we’re some kind of kids. It’s so obvious that he doesn’t want us in their team,” Josaiah complained and sulked on the table. We were now gathered at one table here in camp, waiting for the others to arrive. One cool thing about food here in camp is that they serve us an appetizer, the main course and a dessert. Today, they served us salad that Josaiah is currently nipping on. “I guess they’re okay with just being a three-person squad,” Xy reasoned out but his brows were furrowed. I continued eating the salad while they talk about their disappointments. A few minutes later, Gabriella and her squad arrived. Captain Hiragi greeted them then they walked towards our table to join us. “Good evening, fellas,” Ace greeted. He seems to be in a good mood. Ace sat beside Marco, Snow sat beside Xy and Gabriella sat beside me. I raised my eyes at her and she just smiled and patted my shoulders. “Wow, you’re in a good mood,” Josaiah said. I massaged m

Gabriella and I smashed the walls on both side and Ace broke down the door in front. The people inside didn’t look to surprised but I guessed they didn’t expect us to be this many. The first to attack me was a guy who had an extending spear. He slashed in front, which is one of the common mistakes in fighting. You do not attack forward as your first move, it’s the most predictable move you can make. I easily dodged it and used a balisong to cut his waist. Since I’m more proficient when it comes to long distance attacks, I had to train close combat and make myself prepared. I carry a balisong or a butterfly knife and an extra dagger attached to my calf in case I have to resort to close combat. “What the hell?!” someone exclaimed. I turned and saw someone backing up from the back, but he immediately froze and fell to the ground, Marco appearing behind him. I felt a ray of light behind me and that’s when I saw the cabin being surrounded with crystal light.

I woke up feeling hot and sweaty. When I opened my eyes, my first initial thought was I was kidnapped and tied beside a fire, but I was on the ground, on cement to be exact. I was laying down and when I turned, Snow was beside me lighting a candle. “Hey, Red. You’re awake. This is a healing candle, it’s good for your nervous and respiratory systems,” she said, answering the question I was yet to think. A few seconds later, Marco entered the room. “The first time I saw you unconscious. What was that?” he asked. I don’t know if he was teasing me or he was actually concerned for me. “I don’t know. I thought I saw someone, and there was definitely someone, but I lost him,” I explained, expressing my disappointment. I stood up, Snow gasping, like she didn’t expect me to immediately recover that fast. I went out the room and saw the others resting by a fire. They all looked at me when I got out, Josaiah even stood up. What, like he was nervous for me? Geez, hav

Although I couldn’t recognize him, he was someone I could remember and distinct from all my visions. I thought of the forest. It looked like an ordinary forest, but the trees were huge and tall, like our forest. It felt like I was in a maze when my vision shifted to the forest where there was no one I could see. The boat in the middle of the ocean was even more confusing. It was just a small boat with one paddle and it was empty. It just sat there on the ocean still and there were no waves at all, like the waters were calm. Why am I having these visions? It doesn’t make sense. I wasn’t in contact with anyone, let alone people from Causan Industries. Except for the fact that we killed their scouts, but they’re low-leveled. They weren’t even allowed to enter their premises and they didn’t even know who they were working for. I laid on my bed and closed my eyes. How am I

Gabriella’s “How am I going to make up for him then?” I asked Snow who was reading a book while laying down on her bed. We just got back from the mission and I just finished washing up. It’s not that what I did was wrong, but I thought I was being too harsh on Red. I know he’s a great leader and soldier, but he, himself, was hesitant to stay longer because of what happened to him. I just wanted him to know that I care for his thoughts and choices for himself. “I don’t know, Gabi. Maybe just apologize,” Snow said, not looking at me. I don’t know if she’s being sarcastic or if she’s actually giving a suggestion, but judging her tone, she’s being honest. I sighed and laid down my bed. It doesn’t matter now. All I have to do is just apologize and explain. The night went by pretty quickly considering the fact that I literally rehearsed in my head what I was going to say. “Red, I’m sorry for looking down on you,” “You kn

I stared in shock and disgust. They continuously worked will being ordered around and nobody seemed to stand up for themselves. I’m thinking they’re scientists, because they were mixing chemicals and had human-sized tubes. I couldn’t figure out what they were trying to create because the window seemed tinted, but I could see at the other side of the room some equipment and wiring. What exactly are they trying to do? Is the guy standing on the platform the head of Causan Industries? I doubt it. Someone important to this threat of a company wouldn’t expose himself in a mere laboratory with other individuals who can possibly betray him, but I don’t think they can do that anymore. They look so lifeless, like they’re being controlled by strings. I couldn’t imagine who their families would feel right now, being separated from each other, not knowing that they’re alive. It was a wide window, but the door wasn’t in my range of vision. The laboratory looked like it was a round room.

Louisiano’s It’s so stressful how they keep sliding off my hands when they’re so close to us already. They managed to attack the camp and plant cameras, but I still can’t get a clue about Causan Industries. My wife has been creating our own cameras for the past two days, and it’s been nothing but amazing. She’s the main reason how we’re progressing on our weapons and experiments, and she’s been working on medical research at the same time. I’ve been venturing around the east forest for a while now and I’ve discovered a few clues about the intruders. There were signs of camping on the cliffs and marks on the trees, so I decided to illustrate them on the diary I found a few days ago. I kept track of the things I discover so I can put them together when I have enough clues. Recently, I saw from the cameras that were just attached to the cliffs of the east forest that there were scouts who climbed the cliff to enter the forest. I’m guessing that they got

“Are you sure you’re going to keep it?” I asked Louisiano while observing the hook. It looked old, but it wasn’t broken or torn, like it was just recently used. We were walking back to the camp, but he said he wanted to look into it more and bring it to our lab. “It’s safer for it to be with us, than leave it be at the cliff,” he said. I gave the hook back to him and he suddenly reached out to his back and brought out a book. “I found this as well. It looks like a diary, but it’s empty,” he said and then gave me the diary for me to look. It was indeed, empty. The structure of the diary looks new and the pages were smooth and brightly white. The cover didn’t have any design, simply a colored brown hard cover. There were no signature or ink spill, like it was newly bought. “I think I might use it for records. Have our own copy, don’t you think?” he suggested with an anticipating smile. He smiled with his dimples and teasing eyes, so I tossed the diary back at h

“Louis!” I called to him. My mind was not processing and I couldn’t let out my voice once more. My legs were just sprinting toward him and I couldn’t see the other people fighting by the entrance. When I rushed toward him, I immediately knelt and held his shoulders. “W-what happened? Where did you get hurt?” my mouth blurted out as my eyes looked for his injury. I didn’t want to touch him anywhere near the blood, but he was panting. I embraced his head and let him lean on me. “T-talk to me, please!” I pleaded to him. He held my hand and turned to me. He suddenly held my head to his chest and rubbed my back. I couldn’t understand what he was doing and I was trying to push him away because I might hurt him. “You came back for me,” he softly said. I closed my eyes and breathed. I hugged him back lightly and placed my hands on the back of his shoulder. This isn’t the first time that we got attacked, but this was the first time we got attacked with Gabriella.
