-Willow- “Could you not look at me like that?” I whispered, fiddling with a pillow I had in my lap. I couldn’t look at Eva because of how embarrassed I was. I couldn’t even explain to myself what had happened. One moment, I was just so furious with Cain for even suggesting Eva had anything to do with me getting poisoned, and in the next, his warm lips were on mine, and the only thought I had in my head was that I wanted his clothes off. I had been told how powerful the dynamic was between mates, but this was on a level I could barely comprehend myself. “You would have fucked in that hallway, had I not stopped you,” Eva scolded me, making my cheeks burn. “I would not!” “Yes, you would have, and then I would have to listen to your moaning and you crying out Cain’s name while he would probably grunt like a damn animal.” “Could you not make such a vivid picture?” I asked her, finally meeting her eyes. “Why? Does it turn you on?” “What?!” I exclaimed, my face going bright red as her
-Willow- I woke up to the most incredible feeling I had ever tried feeling. Feather-light touches ran across my neck and naked arms, making me smile in my half-woken state and feel so warm that even a small giggle left me. Soon I felt a warm breath against my neck, and lips descended just for a moment to stroke over the skin, making me moan. “You have the sweetest giggle,” a dark voice whispered in my ear. My eyes shot open, and I turned, seeing Cain behind me. I let out a surprised scream and pushed away from him, sliding to the other side of the bed. “Cain!” I scolded him, seeing him look at me as if he couldn’t see why I would yell at him. “What are you doing in bed with me?” “We had an agreement.” “No, you stated something, leaving no room for discussion,” I reminded him. “Because I told you it was a topic I wouldn’t discuss. It’s instinctual,” he explained. “Besides, you didn’t seem to mind.” “Because I was sleeping! I went to a separate bedroom to get away from you!” I gr
-Willow- I waited three days more, Cain and I were not really speaking to each other. He was busy working on getting the territory safe, and more pack members were joining us slowly. He even came to bed very late, but after I tried sleeping in a different room again and he carried me back, I knew it was pointless, so I had accepted my fate. Yet every night I built a pillow wall between us, making sure there was distance. Cain was angry the first time he saw it, but he preferred the wall over me trying to go to sleep somewhere else, so he didn’t break it down. But I still needed answers. I had asked one of the servants to purchase me a test. Everyone knew Cain and I had slept together anyway, and so it was no surprise I would need one. She had gotten me multiple boxes, knowing I would need them, yet the wait was agonizing. I kept walking back and forth in the bathroom, waiting for that damn timer to go off. My wolf was pacing inside me too, but while I hoped for it to be negative, I kn
-Cain- This was what I had wanted. Willow completely in her right mind, or sort of in her right mind. I knew her anger had a way of pushing her a little, but she was right there with me, coming for me, tightening herself so hard around me that I couldn't, and then our bodies were locked together. This was a whole new experience for me, too. Alphas could only knot their true mates, but it was the most wonderful thing, and it was completely addicting. I knew nothing could compare to this experience, and I looked forward to many more, yet I sensed that as we slowly came down from that incredible feeling, Willow was slowly closing off again. She was tensing in my arms. I tried to distract her by teasing the mark on her shoulder, knowing how sensitive it was. She sighed a little, but the moment my body released hers, she pushed me back. I was still hard, wanting another round, but Willow jumped off my desk and started to dress. I got dressed as well, sliding into the chair again as I watch
-Willow-I woke up feeling myself pressed into a warm and powerful body. Never had I felt such contentment or peace. It was truly an incredible feeling, and I snuggled closer to it, my nose burying itself against something smooth. When I inhaled a sharp scent of something fantastic, I opened my eyes to find the source of it and was shocked to see myself plastered against Cain, my nose buried in his neck as I almost lay on top of him. I quickly sat up, glaring at him. I slapped his chest, though my strength was nothing against him, and he didn’t wake up from it.“Cain!” I called. He murmured something, then his arms around me tightened, and I noticed one of his hands was resting on my ass. It squeezed me into his sleep. I groaned, annoyed, then grabbed his hand, shoving it away. When that happened, he finally opened his blue eyes and focused on me.“You don’t look happy,” he observed."Of course not,” I snarled. He groaned, then pulled me closer, burying his face in the crook of my nec
-Cain- “Try again,” Willow told me, gesturing with her hand in the air as I paced behind her. Both her chair and Henry’s were turned in the opposite direction, facing me as I paced in the middle of the room. Willow had placed her bare feet on the chair, looking so cute all curled up as she held that big brown book in her hands, and her long hair was down. Henry looked rather tired, clearly not thinking I was doing very well at this practiced interview. “How many more times? It’s getting late,” I pointed out. “Just one more time. Impress us,” she told me, looking at me with the sweetest smile, making me unable not to listen. “All right,” I said, slamming my hands together in front of me, trying to mentally prepare myself for this. “I am honored to have been considered a suitable leader and king. I understand my past actions proved me to be highly unworthy, but I appreciate you giving me a second chance, and I will do my very best to ensure I do not let any of you down." I looked at
-Cain- Henry was now living with us, yet when it grew very late, I told him to go eat and rest. It wouldn’t work trying to train me all night anyway, and I could see from how Willow was yawning that we were just going around in circles, and we were all exhausted. While I had improved my speech a bit, it was definitely going to take some practice before it became really good. I was still a bit unsure why I did all of this as I went to sit in front of Willow. However, as I sat down, I noticed the smile on her lips, and just seeing that made the whole training session worth it. “You have never had to charm the women you slept with?” she suddenly asked me. “Henry is right. It wasn’t charm that led them to me. Sometimes I barely had to speak.” Willow shook her head and sighed. “Jealous?” I teased her, making her look annoyed at me. "No, I just thought about how easy things came to you,” she told me. “You’re right. They did come easy, but things are different now.” “I am seeing it a
-Willow- As I woke in the morning, I felt an interesting stretch between my legs. Cain had not stopped after the first round and filled me into my back again before he took me two more times. Only because I couldn’t handle anymore, he let me clean up and rest, and once again I found myself completely enveloped by his arms, unable to go anywhere. This time I felt better about it because of how we had spent last night. I couldn’t say I had completely forgiven him, but he had proven himself a lot yesterday, and my need for him had suddenly grown to new heights. It was harder to fight when he behaved like a proper person. No tricks, no games; simply working hard on proving him worthy. Maybe I had been quick to judge. Maybe Cain had changed completely. I knew I was definitely going to find out now that we lived together. I glanced over my shoulder, seeing him sleeping behind me. I smiled a little, then tried to slide out of bed to get ready, but Cain’s arm tightened around me. “I thought

Want to learn what happened with Carter and his mate Sara at the party? -Carter- My heart froze as we stared into each other’s eyes. Hers were such a deep green, and I loved them from the moment I saw them. She gave me a nervous smile, clearly trying to ignore the message our wolves were giving us in our heads, and sped off with the glass on her tray. I kept looking after her, feeling an undeniable urge to follow her. “Carter!” my brother called, and I turned my head. “Huh?” I answered. “Come on, it’s us next,” Cain told me. “Um, yeah, just say hello from me,” I replied before taking off, hearing him call after me, but I couldn’t stop now. Every nerve in my body was vibrating, telling me to go find my mate. I had seen the way she had gone, leaving the ballroom, and as I came into the hallway, it was much easier to follow her scent. I found her in the kitchen, getting more glasses for the party, and hearing the servants work. I made sure not to enter and instead crept back a litt
-Cain- I watched Weston hold one of my daughters over his head, making a funny face at her and making her laugh. It brought warmth to my heart watching it all happen, yet it was hard to shake the worry seeing my mother so close to my other daughter, whom I had reluctantly allowed her to hold. My daughters were only over a year old, but Carter had lived in this house for a good while now with his own mate, who had just given birth to a son, and it seemed to be okay. Surprisingly enough, everything was going okay, but I was never allowing my mother to be alone with my children, which I had made very clear to Willow. Yet it was hard to resist her when she told me to give it all a chance—to give my mother one. I couldn’t forgive her, but I saw now the benefits of letting her close because she was different. As I truly looked at her with my daughter, I saw she was different because she was allowed to be happy. Therefore, I knew I had to try, at least because I knew better than anyone wha
-Willow- It was rather surprising how fast everything happened, and soon the queen was confided in the palace, confided to the section where her room was, and confided to the lower floor of that section. She had to have her meals brought, but this gave her a chance to be with Weston, and I saw how grateful he was for that. He even hugged Carter so hard, who was there to see the transfer happen, but Cain refused. Weston understood that, and so did his mate, but I could see how much they wished for Cain to be more accepting of all of this as well. For now, this was how it was going to be, and Carter and I walked together through the palace, both having homes to get back to. “So, do I ever get to be properly introduced to your mate?” I teased. “I have actually convinced her to move here with me. She is just nervous because we come from two different worlds.” “I can understand that. But then maybe we should all have dinner together.” “I am not sure we can lure Cain here. He is… determ
-Willow- The news spread quickly and was as shocking to me as it was to everyone else. No one had expected the queen would go so far, and yet as the days dragged on, no one was sure how to punish the queen. The council and the princes were completely divided, and I couldn’t help but feel a bit bad. Now that I knew there was no longer any threat out there to me or my family and the mystery had been solved, I simply stopped being angry. I knew the queen should still be punished, but she wouldn’t have done what she did if she hadn’t been forced to smile and nod through the pain others had put her through. Weston had made a good point to me, I could have been the queen. I could have become just as desperate… “It’s really unbelievable she did it,” Eva said, breaking me free of my trance. She sat in front of me in a small café we had agreed to meet at so I could get out of the house. Cain and I rarely spoke at the moment, and Carter had gone to be with his mate, living with her, though I
-Cain- I was so confused by why Weston had asked to be alone with us. He even asked us to stand up, and we all met in a small circle beside the table. Carter and I looked at him with a puzzled expression, but I could sense something strange on Willow’s end, yet besides her, only Weston didn’t appear perplexed by all of this. Even our mother seemed unsure about what was going on. “Why did you send them all out?” Carter asked, speaking the question that lingered on my tongue. “Because I wanted to do this in private before…” Weston looked at Willow, and I glanced at her, but when she felt my eyes on her, she turned to give me an apologetic look. “Weston,” my mother called, and I noticed her turning slightly scared. “Okay, what is going on?” I asked, needing some answers now. “You have to admit it,” he insisted, focusing on my mother. “Admit what? Admit what, Mom?” I pressed, and both Carter and I focused on her, but she looked away, not meeting our eyes. “What the hell is going o
-Cain- “Goddess, look at your faces!” Willow exclaimed. “You’re starting to do serious damage!” As Carter and I sat down to eat, Willow came to inspect me, tilting my head to the side and taking in the cuts and the swelling. I grabbed her hands, kissed them, and then pulled her down on my lap. “We are fine,” I assured her. “We will heal,” Carter added. “Why are you hitting each other so hard?” “It’s called practice. We are keeping our skills sharp.” “But Carter can’t even open his right eye, and the cut on your lip is so swollen, I fear you can’t eat!” she scolded. “Eat the food or your—” I didn’t get to finish that sentence as she placed a hand over my mouth. “Not funny.” I pulled her hand down. “I think it was rather funny.” “What won’t the council think when they see you like that?” she murmured. “What do you mean?” She glanced between Carter and me, who looked puzzled at her. “You didn’t notice the meeting the council has called? Have you two been that distracted late
-Cain- “I don’t see the point in this,” my brother said as we stepped into the little gym we had in the house. I placed myself on the blue mat, jumping a little up and down and getting ready, yet Carter was standing at a distance, wearing sunglasses inside and a big hoodie over his training clothes that I had forced him to change into. He didn’t just look hungover, he was perfect for putting on a poster that advised people not to drink. He looked like a fucking mess. “You need it,” I told him. “Does it look like I want to workout right now?” he asked. “We are fighting and keeping our skills sharp,” I explained. “Why?” I didn’t really know what to say. What Willow had confessed to me scared the living shit out of me. Was my brother truly so depressed that he had become suicidal? Willow feared it, and we weren’t able to get Carter to react until the next day, and then we didn’t know what to say. So, I thought, after two days of leaving it alone, we needed to get him going again. Th
