-Cain-

After checking the area, the rain started again, prompting me to retreat back into the house. I headed to the master bedroom, only to feel a pang of annoyance when I noticed that Willow and her belongings were absent. As my mate, it felt wrong that she wasn’t in the same room as me. I promised myself I would go find her shortly, but first, I needed to take a shower and wash off the dirt. Once I was clean, I dressed in some comfortable dark clothes and stepped out of my bedroom, scanning the house for any clues about where she had gone.

A servant passed by, and I called out to her, inquiring about Willow’s whereabouts. She pointed to the other side of the house, and I struggled to hide my irritation as I thanked the servant before heading to the room Willow had picked. I opened the door without bothering to knock, but when I stepped inside, I found it empty. Confused, I headed downstairs in search of her. I didn’t want to entertain the thought that my mate might have been kidnapp

-Cain-“I admit I’ve had my fun,” I said, watching as Willow rolled her eyes and shook her head before turning away from me.“And now everyone thinks I threw myself at you,” she mumbled.“We both know what really happened.”“Yes, we do! Just us and our families, but what about everyone else?” she shot back. “Do you have any idea how hard I’ve worked to earn their respect?”“Why do you even care? They only think about themselves.”“And who do you think about besides yourself?” she retorted, spinning back to face me, her eyebrows raised in disbelief. “Honestly, when you came into my room, did you ever stop to think about what it might mean if you kept going?”I hesitated, realizing it hadn’t crossed my mind. She was begging me, her tongue teasing my skin, and she was my mate. How could I say no?“I honestly thought you were cheating on Carter,” I admitted, and her eyes widened in shock.“Why would you think that?”“Because he was out, and I heard groaning coming from the room. What was I

-Willow-I wanted to pry, but I knew I shouldn’t. So, I pressed my lips together, focusing instead on the empty plate in front of me.“Sure, we can talk about something else.”Cain nodded, looking somewhat satisfied, yet we both fell into silence for a moment, clearly unsure of what to say next.“I want this to go better than it is,” he whispered.“What do you mean?” I inquired.“This,” he gestured between us. “I want us to be better than this. I don’t want to argue at every opportunity.”“So what do you suggest?” I asked. “Neither of us asked for this.”“Yet it seems like you almost insinuated that I did!” he snapped.“Maybe that’s because you aren’t losing like I am.”“What do you mean?”“They aren’t talking about you. They’re talking about me,” I whispered, looking away from him.“You heard how your family reacted: ‘We expected this from you, but not from you, Willow’,” I repeated, feeling shame wash over me, as if my time with Cain had been trivial when.Suddenly, I felt warm finge

-Cain-Willow was fluffing the pillows, truly making herself at home in the bed. It was rather fun to watch, and as I stepped out of the bathroom, I leaned against the doorframe, taking in the sight of her. Her long blond hair cascaded down, and she had changed into an oversized t-shirt for sleep. She was beautiful, no matter what she wore. I couldn’t deny that I had been given quite the gift. However, I understood Willow’s frustration. She was right. My reputation hadn’t been tarnished in the same way hers had. I walked over to the couch and sat down, glancing up to find Willow watching me.“Don’t worry, little mate, I’m right here,” I assured her.I adjusted my pillow, placing it at the right angle before lying down, facing her. I slipped a thin blanket over myself and gave her a small smile. She was still sitting up, observing me, which I found amusing.“Waiting for something? Want me to come over and kiss you goodnight?”“No!” she exclaimed, which made me chuckle.“Say the word, an

-Willow-I stretched my body, feeling incredibly rested. Yesterday had been so stressful, and the night before, I had barely slept a wink, knowing I was about to get mated to the wrong brother. But tonight, it felt like I could truly sleep. I felt incredible, nuzzling my face closer to the pillow and letting out a soft moan. Why was I feeling so good?Maybe it’s because you’re in a room surrounded by our alpha’s scent. Doesn’t he smell amazing? my wolf suggested.I sat up quickly, realizing what was happening. The room didn’t carry Cain’s scent strongly yet since we had just moved in, but his belongings and the fact he had slept on the couch in the same room as me ensured that his scent lingered.“No, he smells awful,” I murmured, earning a growl from my wolf.Rude!“The truth!”“What is?” Cain poked his head into the room, and I quickly noticed he wasn’t on the couch anymore. But the blanket was curled in a way that had made me think he was still sleeping there, but as he walked into

-Willow-I was surprised by Cain’s reaction. “Why?” I asked. “Why does it matter if I do?”“Maybe because if you judge me, it means you look down on me, and it will be harder for you to let me in,” he said. “I don’t want my mate to dislike me. You don’t have to love me right away, but I don’t want you to not like me.”I hadn’t anticipated Cain being so honest. To me, he had always seemed childish, reckless, and not the right partner for me. But now he was showing a little vulnerability, and that was shocking.“It’s not like I hate you,” I murmured.“You seem to,” he sighed.“No, I don’t hate you,” I swore. “But that doesn’t mean I’m particularly happy about your past.”“Why? It’s not like we were the ones engaged,” he reminded me, and I glanced away, feeling his eyes on me. The silence stretched between us as I chewed on my food, looking out the window. Then I heard a small laugh from Cain. I turned to see a smile on his lips. “Jealous?”“What? Of course not!” I exclaimed. “Why would I

  • The Wrong Alpha Twin   Chapter 18

-Cain-After showering, I expected to find Willow in our bedroom, but she was gone. I quickly got dressed and began searching the house for her. She had to be somewhere inside. As I walked downstairs, I heard voices and followed the sound to the living room, where a new she-wolf sat in front of Willow. I recognized her—she was hard to miss with her unique style. Yet the sight of Eva didn’t fill me with happiness.“What’s going on here?” I asked, trying to keep my tone steady.“I invited a friend over,” Willow replied calmly.“Without discussing it with me?”“Excuse me?” Willow said, sounding offended. “She’s my friend.”“Willow,” I sighed, shaking my head. My mate didn’t seem to understand the seriousness of her actions.“Welcome home, Cain,” Eva retorted, looking equally offended by my words.“Eva…”“Speak to my friend like that again, and you might find yourself without your balls,” she threatened, taking a bite of the chocolate chip cookie in her hand.“Did you just threaten a princ

-Willow-“Could you not look at me like that?” I whispered, fiddling with the pillow in my lap.I couldn’t even bring myself to look at Eva because I was so embarrassed.“You would have fucked in that hallway if I hadn’t stopped you,” Eva scolded, making my cheeks burn.“I would not!”“Yes, you would have, and then I would have had to listen to your moans and you crying out Cain’s name while he probably grunted like a damn animal.”“Could you not paint such a vivid picture?” I asked, finally meeting her eyes.“Why? Does it turn you on?”“What?” I exclaimed, my face going bright red as her scrutinizing eyes zeroed in on me. “No, it sounds awful.”“Sure, sure. I believe that after seeing you nearly rip off his clothes in the hallway. One minute I hear you shouting, and the next, it goes completely quiet. What the hell, Willow?”“I don’t know what happened!” I exclaimed. “He just… told me I was sexy when I yelled at him, and then I can’t really remember the rest. Suddenly, we were just ki

  • The Wrong Alpha Twin   Chapter 20

-Willow-I woke up to the most incredible sensation I had ever felt. Feather-light touches danced across my neck and bare arms, making me smile in my half-awake state and feel so warm that a small giggle escaped my lips. Soon, I felt warm breath against my neck, and then soft lips grazed my skin, eliciting a moan from me.“You have the sweetest giggle,” a deep voice whispered in my ear.My eyes shot open, and I turned to see Cain behind me. I let out a startled scream and pushed away from him, sliding to the other side of the bed.“Cain!” I scolded, noting the way he looked at me as if he couldn’t fathom why I was yelling. “What are you doing in bed with me?”“We had an agreement.”“No, you made a statement that left no room for discussion,” I reminded him.“Because I told you it was a topic I wouldn’t discuss. It’s instinctual,” he explained. “Besides, you didn’t seem to mind.”“Because I was sleeping! I went to a separate bedroom to get away from you!” I growled, only to look around

-Carter-My heart froze as we locked eyes. Hers were a deep green, and I loved them from the moment I saw them. She offered me a nervous smile, clearly trying to ignore the messages our wolves were sending us, before she hurried off with the glasses on her tray. An undeniable urge to follow her coursed through me.“Carter!” my brother called, pulling me from my thoughts. I turned to him.“Huh?”“Come on, it’s our turn,” Cain told me.“Um, yeah, just say hello from me,” I replied, taking off in the opposite direction. I heard him call after me, but I couldn’t stop now.Every nerve in my body was vibrating, urging me to find my mate. I had seen the way she left the ballroom, and as I entered the hallway, it was much easier to follow her scent out here. I found her in the kitchen, gathering more glasses for the party amidst the sounds of the bustling staff. I made sure not to enter immediately, instead retreating a little to find a room where I could intercept her. I waited until she pass

  • The Wrong Alpha Twin   Epilogue

-Cain-I watched as Weston held one of my daughters overhead, pulling a funny face that made her giggle. The sight filled my heart with warmth, yet I couldn’t shake the worry that gnawed at me as I glanced over at my mother, who was holding my other daughter—something I had reluctantly allowed. My daughters were only a year old, but Carter had lived in this house for quite some time with his own mate, who had just given birth to a son, and it seemed to be going well. Surprisingly, everything was functioning smoothly, but I had made it clear to Willow that I would never allow my mother to be alone with my children. Still, it was hard to resist my mate’s pleas to give my mother a chance.I couldn’t forgive her, but I noticed the change in her demeanor when she was with my daughter. She seemed genuinely different—happier.“Hey,” Willow said, coming up behind me and wrapping her arms around me.I turned slightly so I could wrap my arm around her in return, resting my hand over her flat sto

  • The Wrong Alpha Twin   Chapter 88

-Willow-It was surprising how quickly everything unfolded. Soon, the queen was confined to the palace, limited to her room and the lower floor of that section. She had her meals brought to her, but this arrangement allowed her to spend time with Weston, and I could see how grateful he was for that. He even hugged Carter tightly when he came to witness the transfer, but Cain didn’t even appear.I knew Weston and his mate understood, but I could sense their longing for Cain to be more accepting of the situation. For now, this was how things would be, and as Carter and I walked together through the palace, we both had homes to return to.“So, do I ever get to be properly introduced to your mate?” I teased.“I’ve actually convinced her to move here with me. She’s just nervous because we come from two different worlds,” he explained.“I can understand that. Maybe we should all have dinner together.”“I’m not sure we can lure Cain here. He’s… determined,” Carter groaned.I sighed. “You’re p

-Willow-The news spread quickly, shocking me as much as everyone else. No one had expected the queen to go so far, yet as the days dragged on, the council remained divided on how to punish her. I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of sympathy. The queen deserved punishment, but I realized she wouldn’t have acted as she did if she hadn’t been forced to smile and nod through the pain inflicted on her by others. Weston had made a good point: I could have been the queen. I could have become just as desperate…“It’s really unbelievable she did it,” Eva said, breaking me free from my thoughts. She sat across from me in a small café we had agreed to meet at so I could escape the confines of home.“Yeah…”“Why do you sound that way?” she asked, her brow furrowing with concern.“I just… feel like this has become a bigger mess than it should be,” I admitted.“What do you mean? She killed the king and poisoned you! I thought you’d be the first one shouting for her head,” Eva joked.I managed a smal

  • The Wrong Alpha Twin   Chapter 86

-Cain-I was utterly confused about why Weston had asked to be alone with us. He even requested that we stand up, and we formed a small circle beside the table. Carter and I exchanged puzzled glances, but I sensed something unsettling from Willow. Even our mother seemed unsure about what was happening. Only Weston appeared unfazed by the situation.“Why did you send them all out?” Carter inquired, voicing the question lingering on my tongue.“Because I wanted to do this in private before…” Weston glanced at Willow, and I followed his gaze. When she felt my eyes on her, she turned to give me an apologetic look.“Weston,” my mother called, her voice tinged with fear.“Okay, what is going on?” I pressed.“You have to admit it,” he insisted, focusing on my mother.“Admit what? What, Mom?” I urged, and both Carter and I focused on her, but she looked away, refusing to meet our eyes.“What the hell is going on?” Carter demanded, turning to Weston.“It was your mother who poisoned Willow,” We

-Cain-“Goddess, look at your faces!” Willow exclaimed. “You’re starting to do some serious damage!”As Carter and I sat down to eat, Willow approached to inspect me, tilting my head to the side to examine the cuts and swelling. I grabbed her hands, kissed them, and pulled her down onto my lap.“We’re fine,” I assured her.“We will heal,” Carter added.“Why are you hitting each other so hard?”“It’s called practice. We’re keeping our skills sharp,” I explained.“But Carter can’t even open his right eye, and the cut on your lip is so swollen that I’m afraid you won’t be able to eat!” she scolded.“Eat the food or your—” I started, but she cut me off by placing a hand over my mouth.“Not funny.”I pulled her hand down. “I think it was rather funny.”“What will the council think when they see you like this?” she murmured.“What do you mean?”She glanced between Carter and me, both of us clearly feeling puzzled.“You didn’t notice the meeting the council has called? Have you two been that

-Cain-“I don’t see the point in this,” my brother said as we stepped into the small gym in our house. I positioned myself on the blue mat, bouncing slightly to get ready, while Carter stood at a distance, wearing sunglasses indoors and a big hoodie over the training clothes I had insisted he change into. He didn’t just look hungover. He looked like a poster boy for the dangers of drinking. He was a complete mess.“You need it,” I told him.“Does it look like I want to work out right now?” he replied.“We’re fighting to keep our skills sharp,” I explained.“Why?”I hesitated, unsure of how to articulate the fear that had been gnawing at me. What Willow had confessed scared the living daylights out of me.“It helps,” I insisted.“It helps to fight with a pounding headache?” he shot back.“Well, that’s on you. You could quit drinking.”He groaned and pulled out a mini flask from his pocket. I sighed and walked over to him, snatching the vodka from his grasp.“Really?” I asked, holding it
