Chapter 23:
Trisha’s P.O.V:
Neema was almost exhausted by the time we arrived at the Sanctuary. I’d forgotten that other than his escape from the Rudolf manor and our escape from my home, he’s never been out in the sun before. So he took his time admiring his surroundings and soaking in all that he saw. Sometimes, Lucas and I took short breaks to let him wander off into the woods chasing butterflies or to just take in the fragrance of the wild flowers that grew with careless abundance all around us.
Sometimes it was Lucas himself who’d stop and take us on a different route to show us something he was sure Neema would love, like the small tree houses built by the patrol guards on smaller trees which even Neema could climb up on. And even though it meant we would be late to the Sanctuary, it was worth seeing the smile on the boy’s face.
I’d never seen Neema so happy until now and I realized just how much fear had crippl
Chapter 24: Trisha’s P.O.V: Lucas was shaking hands with an unknown man when I found him in the Primary Hall. The man, who I assumed was David Ruth, had short military-cut black hair and dark brown eyes and his skin was the color of dark honey. He noticed me before Lucas did and his eyes narrowed a fraction at me and then I realized he was looking at how I held Neema. Great! Not only was my entire race against me for saving a human, but now I’m getting odd looks from humans too? Shaking my head, I came to stand next to Lucas. “Lucas, I found what we need.” I told him. “It’s time.” Lucas’s eyes widened as he realized what I was talking about. “Let’s get going, its better if we get things done by tonight.” I sucked in a breath. Tonight! Damien and Lucas are going to come face to face tonight? “Okay,” I agreed and we both began to walk towards the Wall when David called us.
Chapter 25: Trisha’s P.O.V: Damien arrived early the next morning, half an hour earlier than the given time. Lucas’s men were instantly on alert. As I waited patiently for Damien to get out of his car, I replayed my conversation with Lucas in my head. “I want you to be with Damien at all times, but my men will also accompany you.” Lucas told me, his eyes hard and his shoulders stiff. “I don’t want to take any chances and risk Damien finding out about the rest of my den or the Sanctuary.” “You think I would betray your people like that?” I asked him incredulously. What had suddenly gotten into him? “Look, Trish, I trust you, but I don’t trust Damien.” He sighed. “I don’t know anything about his powers so I have to be cautious. If I could, I would keep you as far away from Damien as possible but you’re our best bet at get through to him.” “Lucas…what is wrong with you?” I n
Chapter 26: Trisha’s P.O.V: “I won’t lie to you, I hate seeing you with Damien.” Lucas said as I closed the door behind me and leaned against it. He was facing his desk, his back to me, but I knew he was aware of the slight hitch in my breath as soon as he mentioned Damien. “It’s like he’s a living, breathing extension of you. He knows all your little movements and as much as I hate to admit it, you know him just as well. You two even have some of the same habits, I’m not sure who picked it up from whom.” I shook my head. “Lucas-“ “No.” That single word held so much power that I held my breath, afraid of what he might say next. And then he turned to me, his eyes a brilliant topaz that seemed lit from within. “Just say it Trisha, get it out of the way. All this time I’d brought him up, you dismiss any assumptions, any theories I came up with and told me it’s one sided. But I can’t stand it if this comes between us; I w
Chapter 27: Trisha’s P.O.V Two hours later, after I had had the opportunity to take a shower and rest, Lucas had informed me that Damien had left without a word. That evening, I finally came face to face with Lucas, unable to stay away any longer. “So?” He asks after he’s shut the door behind me and I turn to face him. I decided to be blunt. “Why were you and Damien fighting?” “You’re not gonna ask who started it?” Lucas smiled and motioned towards the couches. “It’s useless to ask. None of you are going to give me a decent answer!” I told him after we’d taken a seat. “You’ve called him?” Lucas frowned. “Several times.” I shook my head in frustration. “But Damien didn’t answer even one of them.” “So he’s avoiding you?” Lucas smirked, shaking his head. “Didn’t take him to be the drama queen type.” “Lucas, it’s not funny. I’m scared for him. What if he’s in trouble?” I ask
Chapter 28: Trisha’s P.O.V “You reek of that mutt.” The voice came from right behind me, as soon as I had entered my room and shut the door. I whipped around to face Damien, my heart in my throat as I stared wide eyed at his beautiful face. “Damien?” He only narrowed his eyes at me, looking disgusted as his eyes examined me from head to toe; like he hadn’t just given me a heart attack. “What the hell!” I threw up my arms in exasperation, pushing past him as I went further into my room so we were no longer at a risk of being overheard. “I call you a thousand times and you don’t answer and now you show up with your judgmental little attitude, telling me that I reek of that mutt!” “You’ve always had poor choice in lovers, but sleeping with the enemy?” He raised an eyebrow, following me inside with his hands in his pockets. “That is going against your rules.” “Seriously?” I whipped
Chapter 29: Trisha’s P.O.V Two days after Damien and Lucas’s big fight, after he teleported in and out of the den, leaving Lucas and the rest of the Den spellbound and highly alert; I was standing in front of Lucas’s door, debating on whether I should talk to him about the whole misunderstanding or let him come to me. I know I have a lot of issues to sort out with him and discuss the reasons why Damien was in my room, but I just couldn’t bring myself to admit my mistakes. But this had to be done. It was the right thing to do. I knocked on Lucas’s office door waiting for him to answer but the door opened as soon as my knuckles came into contact with the wood for the first time. “Trisha?” “Lucas!” We said at the same time. “I’m…I was just…do you want to come in?” Lucas stammered. “Sure.” I smiled at his nervousness as he stepped back into his office and allowed me to come in. Afte
Chapter 30: Trisha’s P.O.V My heart leapt up to my throat. “What happened to Neema?” “He was playing with his toys and then suddenly, he just fell to the floor quivering, like he was having seizures!” Aiden cried. “I swear we didn’t hurt him…he just…” I felt a wave of relief wash over me even though the panic didn’t subside. “I know, Aiden. I know you and Mark would never hurt him. Tell me, where is he now?” “Mark took him to Dylan,” Aiden pointed down the hallway with his hand and I took off running towards the infirmary with Lucas hot on my heels. When we reached the infirmary, Dylan was trying to stabilize Neema. But as expected, he seemed to be utterly lost at what was happening to him. He looked up as soon as he saw us enter and immediately, he went over to Lucas. “Alpha, I don’t know what’s wrong with the boy. His vitals are all fine but he’s gone into seizure.” Dylan told
Chapter 31: Trisha’s P.O.V: “Have you gone crazy?” Lucas asked as soon as I mentioned going back to Damien. “Vandal’s men are out tearing the streets apart, searching for you. The instant they see you, it’s all over!” “No, it’s not.” I shook my head. “Damien will find me before that can happen.” Lucas laughed humorlessly. “Right. Wasn’t it you who kept on reminding me that you’re not that valuable to him despite my knowing better? And now you want to risk your life for him without knowing if he would stand up to Vandal or not.” “He left me here to keep me safe.” I told him as I went into the bathroom to change out of my loose T-shirt and shorts into something travel worthy. “Damien knew he couldn’t help me as long as I was out in the open, I understand that now. It was why he took me to the warehouse. I know it doesn’t look like it but Damien really does care.” I came out wearing black jeans and a bott
Trisha’s P.O.VEverything is a lie.My life, my love…everything.I couldn’t tell the difference between reality and dreams and the more I thought, the more my head pounded, making me feel sick to my stomach. This wasn’t the first time that my life had turned upside down within a moment’s notice. But this was the first time in my life I wanted to question whatever divine power ruled the universe…why did they keep me alive? My entire town in the countryside had been slaughtered. No one had been left alive as the werewolves shred through the populace, splattering blood and guts on the walls and ending precious lives one by one like it didn’t mean anything. My precious little boy, my David, as well as my husband and my mother…they had all died a painful death as the wolves entered out house, breaking through concrete and used their sharp claws and fangs to rip everyone to shreds. I cle
Trisha’s P.O.V“Damnit!” I threw aside another book that had a promising title but did not have what I needed!I needed scandals and dirt on the Elders, not flowery words and love poems on their beauty! So yes, I was pissed off enough to throw around books that had hundreds of years of history, but I wasn’t a monster, so I instantly regretted my decision and ran after said book, picking it up from the floor and properly keeping them back in place after making sure I hadn't made any damages. So far the only thing I had gathered was that the Council consisted of four members, three men and one woman. They were considered over ten thousand years in age and they were certainly not the first vampires, but…the last of the first? And there was more misinformation about the Elders than information, because the records kept varying from one data to another. So not only was I angry, I was frustrated and exhausted and
Trisha’s P.O.V“Hey, champ!” I called out to Neema, watching him sitting on his bed, bent over his notebook in concentration. “What are you up to?”“Hi, mommy!” Neema gave me a sleepy smile, but rubbed his eyes to drive the sleep away. “I was doing my homework.”“Homework? What subject?” I went to sit on his bed as he made room for me.“Math.” He showed me what he was working on. “The teacher said I need to finish by tomorrow, but I’m sleepy.”“Really?” I raised my eyebrows at his sheepish smile. “Who was it that stayed past their bedtime again?”“Sorry.” He wrapped an arm around my waist and placed his head on my chest, holding on to me tightly. “But it was your and Damien’s wedding! I couldn’t miss it!”Smiling, I wrapped my arms around my precious boy. “Ne
Trisha’s P.O.V“Someone’s had a lot of fun last night?” I smirked at Rosanna as she entered the cafeteria late in the afternoon, having skipped breakfast. “It’s almost lunch time.”“Fuck you!” She groaned, fixing her messy hair into a bun, revealing the love bites on her neck.“I think you already did that…with Lucas.” I laughed at her sour look.“Bitch! If you didn’t have vampire healing, I’d like to see how you would fair, Mrs. Vampire Queen.” Rose glared at me. “Where’s the hubby? Aren’t newlyweds like, attached to the hip or something?”“He went back to his castle to gather Intel.” I shrugged, taking a sip of my coffee. I had been working all morning and I needed caffeine to keep me going. “This newlywed couple has a sword hanging on top of their heads.”“Yeah…I kno
Trisha’s P.O.VThat night, Damien and I held our reception in the ship’s deck with everyone on deck having the time of their lives as we celebrated our union. Lucas and Rose seemed to be enjoying themselves a bit too much and it did raise some eyebrows, but in a good way.If Rose and Lucas decide to be together, I would be really happy for them. They had both been through a lot in their lives and they deserved their happiness.Neema seemed ecstatic as he danced away with the crew, so much so that I almost missed his bedtime. But I guess, skipping bedtime for one day wouldn’t hurt, right? This was further from the calm before the storm. This was us coming together to celebrate one small victory. And even though I was a bit worried about the amount of pastries he had consumed today and skipped his bedtime, I was willing to let it slide just this once.It was a beautiful star filled night and the ocean was quiet for the mos
Trisha’s P.O.VI walked out of the room with my father, Lucas and Rose following behind us, but they separated from us as we neared the altar. The music was light and the entire hall was filled with the scent of fragrant flowers. White roses were used as decoration, but within the purity of the white, I spotted the dark velvet petals of the black roses. However, behind the altar, there was a humongous garland made completely of black roses and it was just magnificent.Candles illuminated the room along with the electric chandeliers; it was a mix of the old and the new. I think it was a harmonious match, just like Damien and me. He was over nine centuries old while I was only two. Vampires didn’t count years as humans did and I had long since understood that passage of time for us was far different, but somewhere deep in my heart, the heart that had once been human, told me in a wondrous whisper that Damien might just have waited for
Trisha’s P.O.VI stared at the mirror across the room, unable to recognize the woman staring back at me.Damien had kept his promise. He was giving me everything I had always wanted. A grand wedding at the castle with only the staff and close friends in attendance. And a wedding dress that would be the source of envy for many a woman. The dress was pure white with a boat neck and fit bodice, but the bottom half was a flared skirt with the most gorgeous pearl embroidery I had ever seen. The sleeves were full and it was embroidered the same, with real pearls and even though there was so much decoration, the fabric was soft and breathable. The person who had done my makeup had told me that this was all Damien’s special request and that he had ordered it half a year ago. I had no idea what to feel after knowing that Damien had been planning for this way ahead of time.My stylist had even changed my hair by removing the black dye a
Trisha’s P.O.V“Damien wh-?”The world was engulfed in darkness for a few seconds and then, we were no longer inside the jungle and the ruins of the Avestenin castle. The room Damien had taken me into was dark as well and before my night vision could kick in, I saw tiny flames flicker to life.Candles. There were hundreds of them all around the room and once all of them were lit up, I found myself in a fairytale. A huge chandelier hung from the ceiling and the crystals scattered the light of the candles in all directions making it look like fractured starlight on the walls. There was a huge bed in the middle of the room and the windows were draped with blood red silk curtains. There wasn’t much furniture in the room except for the bed, a large closet and a vanity, but it was spacious and beautiful. Since the curtains were drawn, I couldn’t see outside and also because wherever we were, it was night time; but I heard
Trisha’s P.O.VRose and I joined Damien and Lucas on the table and Rose motioned for Rissa, the woman in charge of the Kitchen, to bring out our food.I was given a bag of blood along with a small bowl of beef stew and rice, while Damien was just given a bag of blood and a suspicious look. I gave Rissa a disappointed glance, but Damien shook his head, accepting the blood without complaints.“So? Any progress with the expedition?” Rose asked outright, getting straight to the point. “You didn’t immediately teleport back, so I’m assuming you had some form of success.”Damien nodded, taking a sip of his blood. “I found the castle. There was a fountain in the courtyard with the statue of a baby angel. It was made completely of jade, that’s why I remembered it. Turns out, that statue is still in pristine condition.”“And the castle?” I asked, a sliver of hope bloomin
