Romeo POV
I have been stuck at Stella's side since everything went down. According to Carmen and the doctor, the poison was laced with dark magic, making it harder for her body to recover. Fortunately, her Elemental powers protected the pups, and she suffered the most damage. My blood boiled every time I thought about someone trying to hurt my other half.
She has been asleep since yesterday, and we hope she will wake up any minute now. My father has called me several times, but knowing that I am still upset about what went wrong with my mother, he has been in touch but keeping his distance. I appreciate it because I can't deal with any more shit for the moment.
My mother has stopped by a couple of times to bring food for me, but I don't seem to be able to stomach anything. I want her. I have been restless. The more time passes, the more anxious I get about her recovery. Carmen and the doctor told me it was expected, but I don't care what they consider normal. I want to see her deep green eyes staring at me, comforting my soul, and assuring me we will be together forever.
Rose came by and took guard of her for 15 minutes, which was plenty of time for me to go, shower, and change. She rolled her eyes when she saw me coming back quicker than she thought I would be taking, but I couldn't care less. Elliot, Nate, and Corey hold the fort while Morgan and the Special Ops team investigate who could have done that to my love.
I wondered whether I had judged Eulisse's character wrong and whether he was behind this. After all, the only person I know who has a friendship with witches is Paige, currently under his care. Paige has demonstrated enough grudge against Stella to use Coral's powers on her several times. Maybe I should investigate that possibility further.
I was deep in thought when Nate came into the room. "Hey Romeo… I just received this." He handed me a yellow envelope with a red royal seal. I quickly understood that it might be Eulisse's response to our proposal.
I tossed it to the side, exhaling deeply. "Do you think we are doing the right thing by giving him this chance?" I questioned out loud.
He sat next to me and patted my back. "Bro, Stella wanted it this way. She had always had a huge heart and wanted to grant him that opportunity. Why don't you open it?" I exhaled,
"I don't know, man. I have been wondering about Coral's powers and the shit Paige has pulled on Stella previously. Maybe this is, after all, their doing…" I voiced the thought that haunted me.
"Look, I understand that you are hesitant about this, but don't you think that Paige will do something like that to the person that, in the end, will lessen her punishment and grant her forgiveness? It doesn't make sense because if Stella died, she would not be given safe passage." Nate thought aloud, and it made sense, but what about Coral? Was she with them in the King of the Rogues territory? What could motivate Coral to keep hunting Stella? Because now it is clear to me that the target was her. If I had been the target, I would be lying next to my mate.
I was deep in thought when Nate stood up and handed me back the envelope. "Read it, and then maybe you can talk to him and find some answers." I retook the envelope in my hands, and reading it without Stella next to me didn't seem right. After all, this had been her plan, and if we got to avoid an imminent conflict, that would be her triumph. But then again, Eulisses would be waiting for my answer, and the longer I delay it, the more detrimental it will be to our future endeavors.
I took a deep breath and broke the red seal holding the envelope. I took a piece of paper out, and then I read out loud:
Dear Supreme Alpha,
In response to your peace treaty and proposal, I would like to accept the help you offer us to become a regular pack under your jurisdiction. I would also appreciate your help in righting the wrongs committed by my uncle in the past and helping restore Midnight Pack under a fair ruler.
I look forward to you summoning my chosen mate, Paige Hope, and me to your land to proceed with Paige's rehabilitation treatment and the proper sign of the registry and alliance of our packs.
Sincerely,
Eulisses Ford
It was a brief letter, but it covered everything. He agreed to become a pack instead of a gang of rogues without jurisdiction and dignity. He will become an Alpha and lead under the same laws and legislation. He also agreed to Paige receiving treatment to grant her pardon.
He is smart and the descendant of a true Alpha. His Alpha blood makes him prioritize the well-being of his followers, knowing that trying to go against the Royal pack and its allies is a lost war. My mate was suitable; there is always a way of avoiding the devastation that war brings to both sides.
This was her first victory as a faithful Luna and Queen, and she was glued to a bed, unconscious. It was a bittersweet moment. I chuckled, looked at the letter, and handed it to Nate.
"She did it, man… She prevented a huge conflict by spreading her kindness and goodwill. And yet, she is here, battling for her life and the life of our pups." The realization made my eyes glisten with unshed tears, and Nate gave me a tight smile.
"So, should I say that we agree and will be in contact with the draft of the peace treaty so he can review and agree on the terms?" I looked up at Nate and nodded.
"Yes, do that, but also ask him to call me. I have an urgent matter to ask from him." Nate nodded and exited the room quietly.
It's been two long days. Fuck! I want her back. The day passed by, and during dinner, again, Rose showed up with food for me. "Romeo, Alpha… You need to eat. She would be upset knowing that you are not taking care of yourself. Your last proper meal was about two days ago." She frowned with concern.
"Thanks, Rose. I will eat later. Leave the tray there." I pointed at a small table in the room, and she shook her head.
"Look, you are my best friend's mate. She will kill me if I let this continue. It is unacceptable that you are starving yourself. If this continues, instead of you taking care of her, she will be waking up to a weak mate lying next to her." She stood firmly before me, her hands over her hips, protesting.
If the situation were different, it would have been quite amusing. With her body, she was blocking my view of Stella's bed. I rolled my eyes. "You need to eat, naughty Alpha," Stella's voice sounded weak, but when I stood up from the couch, I saw her green orbs staring back at me. Her sweet smile is weak but beautiful. At that moment, I let out a breath of relief. She woke up, she was here… the worst is over.
Stella POV
After being in the dark for so long, I heard faint noises. I wanted to move, to wake up, but my body was too weak. Leia whispered in my mind. "Stella, rest for a while. We spent a lot of energy protecting our pups."
"Our pups? In the plural, as in two babies?" I asked Leia, and she nodded. Yes, the goddess is sending us two mighty pups that have never existed." I smiled, imagining my baby bump and Romeo caressing it. I was not looking forward to delivering these babies, but I know that the process, no matter how painful, is also gratifying, or so they say.
"Leia, what happened to us?" I asked my wolf, and she quickly briefed me on the fact that we were poisoned with wolfsbane and dark magic. The attack was aimed at me, and I knew it would have been someone who had access to our food. Otherwise, there was no way this would have happened.
"When am I going to be able to wake up?" I asked, and Leia smirked. Soon… recover your strength, and you will be able to wake up." I did as she told me and rested for a while longer. I was sleeping or out for about 10 minutes when I heard distinctive noises of machines hooked onto my body. I was regaining consciousness. This was it.
Then I heard Rose's voice. She was pissed at Romeo, he had been skipping meals, and she was scolding him like a mother scolding a little kid. They were so immersed in their discussion that I couldn't help but side with Rose and make myself notice.
"You need to eat, naughty Alpha," I softly said, sounding scratchy. He quickly stood up and walked towards my bed. He leaned down, placing his warm hands on my face and pressing his forehead into mine.
"Sweetheart…" He whispered in relief. His eyes closed, and I could feel his heart beating hard. "You scared the shit out of me…" he finished, and I giggled. "Not on purpose, honey… I assure you." He smiled at me and pecked my lips softly.
"Now, bring your tray and eat. I don't want you to faint from starvation." I joked, and while laughing, I coughed.
"Are you alright, sweetheart?" I nodded,
"Yeah, just parched; I need some water." Rose quickly exited the room and brought a bottle of water for me, and I slowly nodded at her.
"Good to see you up, babe… I will go back to Nate now. You are in good hands." She winked, and I smiled.
Romeo took his tray next to my bed and started eating his food. As soon as he started, I realized he was eating fast. Maybe he realized that he was hungry after all.
"So, what have you found out about what happened? Are there any suspects?" I asked, and he shook his head. "No, but I can't see that dark magic was used, and that points to Paige," he said between bites.
"Honey, I don't think Paige has anything to do with this. You need someone to access the food or contact the Omegas. I don't know, but I feel this is an inside job." I assured him, and he shook his head.
"Well, that should be more concerning because now we face a faceless threat—one that knows how to hide and how to deceive us all." I could feel his stress through the bond and decided to drop the topic.
"So, have you heard of Eulisses?" I asked, diverting the topic and focusing on maybe a happier subject. His face changed, and he nodded.
"Yes, you were right. He accepted everything. He is waiting for us to send the first draft of the registry and peace treaty. He also wanted to seek Paige's rehabilitation and mentioned her as his chosen mate." I smiled, I guess doing a bit of diplomacy paid off, and helped us dodge the huge bullet of war and destruction.
"That is good to hear…" I paused when the door opened, and Nate walked in with a cell phone on a video call.
"Sorry, Romeo, but I thought this was urgent." Romeo whipped his mouth with a napkin and looked at Nate.
"She is just up… Stay with her. I will take this outside." When I stopped him, he got the phone.
"Please, I don't want you away. You won't be bothering me." He kissed my forehead and nodded. Picking up the phone to show his face, he opened the microphone.
"Hey Eulisses, I got your letter…" He greeted his brother.
"Oh, your Beta said that you needed to discuss something urgently. Am I interrupting something?" he quickly apologized.
"No, Stella just woke up, and I needed to discuss something with you regarding what happened to my mate." Romeo looked at me, and I nodded. I needed to encourage trust between them; otherwise, the treaty would not work.
"Yesterday, Stella was poisoned. We are at the hospital, and she just woke up. The curious thing is that the poison was laced with dark magic…" Romeo's face was stern, and I could sense that Eulisses was shocked at what he was hearing.
"Look, Romeo… Alpha…” He paused.
"Paige has tampered with that sort of thing, and it would be easy to blame her. But I can assure you, she has not been in touch with anybody from the Royal Pack. I have been with her most of the time, and I give you my word that my chosen mate is not involved in what happened to yours." I saw Romeo's wheels turning in his head, and I quickly mind-linked Romeo.
"Ask him if there are witches capable of doing such a thing in his pack," I suggested,
"Eulisses, do you host witches in your pack?" Romeo asked out loud, and I could hear Eulisses's demeanor change.
"Yes, I do… But they don't have contact with your people…" He replied,
"What about Coral? Is she there? What about mom? Has she been there?" Romeo harshly said.
"Damn it…" Eulisses replied.
I guess Romeo was into something, and because of Eulisses' reaction, we have his full support in this situation.
"Romeo, Stella…" Eulisses said.
"I will help you to get to the bottom of this. After all, I can understand what you are going through. Seeing your mate in danger is not an easy thing to go through. Believe me, whatever information I gather, I will immediately send it to you." I saw Romeo's eyes flash,
"I am counting on it," and the call ended. I let out a deep breath and took Romeo's hand in mine.
"Honey, we are going to be alright… I love you."
Mariel POVI had to witness the whole Luna ceremony. I am livid, I can't believe that after all the hard work I have done, after all the sacrifices, she took my place. I also can't think that Romeo is accepting a lesser woman, and placing her in my spot.My whole plan is based on Eulisses to conquer the Royal Pack. I have spent so much time working on it, and I am almost there. Just a few more things to do and I will be back. In power again. I can't believe that my first child is so avid of love and companionship, that he is willing to do whatever I suggest. He wants his mom with him, and he listens. So it is easy for me to pull the strings in the background and still pass as the perfect mother to everybody else.I learned early on that love leads to betrayal. This time, instead of being crushed by it, I will use it to my advantage. Paige had been a little hiccup in my plan. She came in and got this horny dog's attention
Romeo POVI felt the bond break. Roberta was gone. A loud growl shook the walls of the hospital, and I felt like breaking everything around me. Stella's presence was the only thing keeping me together. She looked at me, her eyes showing adoration, mine showing pain and rage. We were fooled. That bastard tried to fool me and fool her. I would not allow it; he would definitely not go unpunished.“Romeo, please. There must be an explanation for Roberta's words,” Stella's weak voice pulled me out of my angry fit.“I need to run…” I mumbled and walked out of the room. As soon as I exited, I shifted to Max, not caring that my clothes would be ruined in the process.I ran at full speed. The scenery is a big blur in my eyes. “Why did they accept the treaty when he was planning to kill her? Why did he sound truthful when I questioned him, only to be guilty? I can't wrap my head around the information we received, and also, I can't wrap around the fact that something other than a regular seizure
Stella POV- An hour earlier -As soon as Luna Mariel left the room, I was dizzy. “Rose, are you sure Romeo is in a neighboring pack?” I asked her, and she nodded. “Well, Nate told me the same, why babe?. You sound distressed,” I couldn't hold back my tears. Rose hugged me,”Hey, everything is going to be OK. Care to tell me what is going on?” She patted my back. I just mustered to say,“It was her…” I mumbled,“Who was what?” Rose peeled herself from me and locked eyes with me.“Luna Mariel, she was the one to…” A low growl interrupted my sentence.“What are you saying, babe?” Corey said through gritted teeth. He sat next to Rose at the end of the bed.“Well, I sensed her energy to be off, and I opened my ability. And in
Stella POVI had to do something, his hand was approaching Eulisse's chest, when I found my own voice “Stop, don't do it!” I yelled. Romeo's hand froze inches away from Eulisse's chest. He turned around and looked at me, his eyes were wild with rage and anger.Everything stood still, his eyes locked with mine, and his demeanor softened immediately. It was scary seeing him that mad, but I knew that the only person able to get him back to his senses was me. I was not afraid of him, not even in that state. “What are you doing here?” His eyes roamed my body, walked towards me and tried to wrap his hands around me, but I stopped him. I saw hurt in his eyes, but he needs to understand that what he did is so wrong on so many levels that there is no way he would go free, at least from a good scolding.“Don't touch me,” I mumbled, then continued, “What the hell is wrong with you?” Anger flowed out of my body in trem
Romeo POVHer actions and words earlier devastated me. She knew that, but she kept pushing me away. Now that it was time to be face-to-face, she gave me an ultimatum. Either I accept her completely in my life and make decisions, or she goes away.I worship the ground she stands on. There is no way I would let her go or leave me like that. No, she is my mate, she is mine, and whatever I have done, I am already regretting it tenfold. I was hooked into her eyes, I couldn't stop looking at her, the emotions showing in both of us made me lose my words for a moment, but she brought me back. “So, are you going to say something?” She crossed her arms across her chest, pushing her breasts up, and of course, my mind went to the gutter. It was not the time, nor the moment, especially with a very pissed Stella staring back at me.“I am sorry, honey,” I managed to get that out of me.“What are you sorry for? Lyin
Stella POVLast night I was so tired that I passed out almost immediately after my head hit the pillow. It was an excruciating day. It was as if we were riding an emotional roller coaster over and over again. I was drained, and although I promised a second round of love making, my body protested and closed out without a warning. The last thing I recall is someone knocking on our door. And that was it. I felt Romeo wrap his arms around me, and the comfort of his warmth lulled me more to sleep; the longing, need, want, and lust were long gone. And as long as I was in his embrace, the rest didn't matter. I felt content, and I was complete, as long as we were together. The next day, I woke up rested, after being in the hospital for two days, without my mates´ touch, his closeness was doing weird things to me. I am going to blame it on the pregnancy hormones, because I was ready to jump over his bones, despite him being aslee
Romeo POVWhen I apologized to Eulisses, I could feel that he honestly was not holding a grudge against my actions yesterday. He is willing to try it, which makes me willing to try as well. I have been wondering about what kind of information he has and about how willing he is to work with us. The only way to find out is by using Stella's ability, so during breakfast, I quickly mind-linked her “Hey, honey…” She looked at me and smiled; no words had to be said between us. “I was wondering if we talk to them in private… Can you use your ability to help figure out if they are being honest?” She casually kept eating, and then I heard over my mind.“I have been using my ability the whole breakfast, and Oh! Boy, you are in for a surprise… But yeah! I can use my ability if we get to talk to them in private, and I can try to open the link so you can hear the whole thing like a live broadcast.”We engaged in small talk during bre
Paige POVMy blood froze. She was having twins. This can't be happening. I heard Coral say a couple of times that if she had twins, the pups would be the most powerful pups alive and that they would restore the order of things. Coral was adamant about Stella not getting together with Romeo, and now she is the one helping Mariel get rid of her.I don't want my sister to be put in harm's way, so she needs to keep those pups concealed as much as possible. If Coral or any other witch finds out, she will be the target of multiple attacks. The prophecy about Stella said that she would bring peace to the werewolf community, and so far, she and Romeo have just prevented a bloody war, but the prophecy about the pups is completely different. The prophecy says, "Two pups will be born from the Elemental couple, one with great power, the other with great strength, and combined, both will restore order in the world.” Coral's words sen
Romeo POVOur babies are three months old, and Stella has been doing wonderfully with motherhood. She is flourishing into her new roles, her role as Quen and her role as a brand-new mother.Ralph usually gives her more trouble than our sweet baby girl, Stormee. She is just like that, like a storm that takes time to brew, but when it hits you, it hits you fucking hard.I was lounging in my office going through some paperwork when Stella barged in. “Hey, Sweetie…” I lifted my eyebrows, and she sighed,She was silent, and I knew she wanted to discuss something important. “What is it?” I dropped the papers and realized she was biting her nails. This was not a good sign; it meant something was troubling her mind.“We need ground rules…” She blurted, and I squinted my eyebrows.“What?” I sighed. I had no context or background to that first comment.“Pay attention, Romeo!” she said, frustrated, and I closed my eyes, trying to see where this was going. Ralph is mated to King David's daughter,
Romeo POVIt has been five months since we crossed forces with the darkness. My idea of setting up a council with every ruler as the head of their species was well received. We created treaties and laws that united our realms, and with the help of the Sisters of the Willow, we made a portal system that allowed our people to move back and forth.Morgan was a celebrity in the Dragon Realm. His technology expertise paid off, and now that the dragons had experienced technological advances, they were thrilled to learn more about it. That pushed him and Marcy to move to the Dragon Realm for a while. After all, we were their providers of the technology implemented in their realm. King David was the funniest, trying to video call everyone at all times. His daughter hatched two months ago, a gorgeous baby with purple eyes. The dragon's legends say the purple-eyed dragons were rare and blessed. I guess my pup got lucky on that one.
Stella POVWe managed to walk out of our room and headed to dinner. I was hoping to see everyone there, and I was sure not disappointed. Our table suddenly felt bigger, full of people and laughter. My heart warmed up, seeing the way our pack and friends had recovered from the massive attack we had endured.Everybody went silent as soon as we crossed the threshold of the dining hall. Rose's face lit up, and when our gazes crossed, I couldn't help but give her a broad smile. My eyes moved around, and my heart clenched when I saw Nate sitting in his wheelchair. It is unfair that such a fantastic person has to deal with that kind of recovery. My dearest Elemental elder friends were there as well. Eleanore, Everly, Elphaba, and Evangeline. I owe them everything.
Romeo POVIt was 3 weeks since the attack, all the visiting allied Alphas went back to their packs. They took the few casualties that they had, and everything was coming back to normal. Everything except my mate was still in the hospital, connected to wires with her eyes closed. The ladies of the Circle of the Willow decided to stay in my pack, waiting for Stella to wake up. King Aelfred and Kind David also stayed, but they sent their people back. Queen Sirena decided to take care of Stella personally. While King Vladimir returned to his kingdom, he said he would be back as soon as Paige and Eulisses´s baby was born, with Tatiana.I decided to stay at the hospital for as long as my mate was there. The staff had to pull an extra bed into Stella's guard to make my stay more comfortable. I couldn't part from her. I felt that the moment I walked out of that room, she would wake up, and I wanted to be the first face she
Stella POVDarkness was all I saw around me, I knew we had won, I felt at peace, and I was content with the life that I had lived. I was ready to meet my creator and to rest in peace. I let out a sigh, wishing I could have made it, but I also understood that certain sacrifices should be made for the greater good. So I was at peace.I heard a little giggle, and a white light blasted over me. I opened my eyes and realized that I was in a clearing, similar to where I was before, but there was no one around except me and a lady in a white dress.I walked towards the lady and I knew immediately that she was our Goddess. I guess I was in heaven. “My child, you did well… I am proud of you, you saved every species around, and for that, I am proud of you.” Selene said to me in a mellow and melodic voice. She sat on the ground facing the sky and I sat next to her. “You know that I bles
Paige POVShe blasted me. The fucking bitch blasted me with dark magic with full force. At that moment, I was thankful that Vladimir had asked me for an elf´s armor. Coral´s magic was slipping away from my body, not reaching me and not affecting me.I saw it in her eyes. She didn't know what was happening, she didn't understand the reach of white magic, and she was confused about what was protecting me. Beside the armor, the witches of the Circle of the Willow cast a blessing spell over me. No dark magic would be allowed to harm me, regardless of who cast it or how strong it was.I smiled at my ex-friend. “Oh, Coral, you wouldn't understand. Darkness is never stronger than light. Darkness corrupts everything, while light leads to a better path. You left darkness to consume you, and now you can't even see clearly what is happening around you.” I raised my eyes, looking at her completely dark ones. She gave me a look of co
Romeo POVIt was carnage, body parts flying everywhere, mostly from their creatures. Still, suddenly, we realized that even as we tore and tore flesh, the limp bodies on the ground started regenerating and attacking again. It was endless. Our injured warriors were removed from the field almost immediately.David left the fight and followed our sub-plan to protect Stella. We agreed to remove ourselves from the front and keep an eye on her. I felt her link open, and she whispered, “Honey, it is time. I love you.”“I love you, sweetheart. I will see you in a bit.” I told her, noticing the ground opening under us and demons crawling out. Shit, this is the worst-case scenario, these creatures are vicious, and our warriors are tired.Mariel POVI wanted to finish him, Romeo, the product of Remus' abuse of me, the reason why I couldn't leave that pack and have a happy life with my fated
Stella POVI was disappointed to feel Romeo closing in on me. I wanted to relax in his arms, but he refused and, with a tender kiss, walked away from me. I could feel his turmoil through our bond. I understand the way he feels, but he needs to give me some credit. Before I even had powers and my wolf, I was a good warrior and the best strategist, so he needed to start trusting me with my safety and the safety of my pups. I lay in bed trying to rest, but sleep never came. I tossed and turned until I placed my head over Romeo´spillow, which did the trick. Yes, I needed my mate close, and my pups also needed him, but he decided to leave us here.My selfish side wanted him near me at every single moment, while my rational side understood that he had a ton of things to check before the war. He wanted to be prepared and sure that we would be successful. Although my heart was hurting because I was in tune with my selfish side,
Romeo POVI dismissed the meeting, trying to wrap my head around what happened there. I want to keep Stella and my pups as far away as I can from the shitshow, and on the other hand, they twisted my arm into agreeing to have them as bait. I am torn and I don't know what to think about it.Stella is confident and wants to be part of everything, and I know for sure that she is capable enough, but still, my heart and my brain don't seem to agree on what to do. My heart and my wolf are pushing me to keep her safe and concealed from everything, while my brain is telling me that the best option to win this once and for all is to agree with Mother Ashia.Stella took my hand and gave me a small smile. She could feel my turmoil, and I, for once, was not trying to hide it from her. She needs to know that it has been the hardest decision I have had to make, and even if we agree on it, I am not sure about it.“H
