Cataleya’s POV-

“Thanks bro,” I say as Aria and I leave the boys to finish cleaning up. I could probably find everything just fine on my own when we get to campus, but I know that he’s always busy during football season so I gotta take our hang out time when I can get it. For some reason he’s never really had a steady girlfriend that takes up his time, even though everyone else tells me he’s good looking. Obviously I could never look at him that way, but I trust Aria’s judgment. He’s pretty tall and muscular, and has dark brown hair that he keeps tight on the sides and short on top, just enough to style when he needs to but that can look good all messed up. Our mom started watching the show Supernatural when she was pregnant and got obsessed with the actor Jensen Ackles, who she said reminded her of our dad. That’s why she named her son Dean. It was just sheer luck that he grew up to kind of look like him too. We both got our mom's dark brown hair but he got dad’s green eyes and I have light brown eyes like mom. I’m only 5’7”, which is a decent height for most women, but I feel like my brother and my dad both tower over me.

“Well I don’t care what they say, I’m excited for the new semester. All the new people to meet!” Aria squeals. She’s always been the more social of the two of us. “Remember the guys we met at the pool hall last year?” she asks.

“Shhhh! Keep it down. I didn’t tell Dean about that and I don’t plan on him ever knowing we go there. He keeps guys away from me enough as it is and I don’t want him to take away my one dating pool,” I reply as we both laugh back to our rooms. We of course had to get rooms next to each other. We had a small place together during our year in the city and although we loved being able to hang out together all the time we still needed our own space to decompress every once in a while. I wouldn’t let her go too far away though and we still hung out in each other's rooms all the time. It was needed to maintain our sanity in this testosterone driven world. We made our way into my room right now and each took up our spots on my small sofa.

“Do you think our brothers will let us get anywhere near the pack guys on the team?” Aria asks.

“I doubt it. At least I know Dean won’t. I know that won’t stop you though.”

“Damn right it won’t. I heard those guys are all hot. Something in their genes.”

“There’s more to life than looks, Aria.”

“Yeah like the way they move! Wouldn’t mind a little wrestling to test out my theories,” she says as she winks at me.

“Only you could turn fighting a werewolf into something dirty.”

“Damn right! And you love me for it. Someone has to bring a little spice into your life, and I’m not just talking about my Latina side either.” Aria and Damien have a hispanic mom and she claims that’s where she gets all her cooking and dancing abilities. Damien can’t do either.

“I don’t need any spice right now. I just want to get my degree and somehow decide what to do after college. I know what we do here is important, and I love that we make a difference even if not everyone knows it, but there are still other evils out there that need to be stopped.”

“Hey, you have plenty of time to decide and we never know what will happen in the next 4 years so just take this time to have a little fun too. Besides, we both know no matter what you do, you can’t live without me and will never stay away,” she smiles.

“That is true. As long as I’m not stuck doing more paperwork for my mom's company like we had to do last year. If that is the only other option then I’ll just abduct you and run off to the other side of the country.”

“It wasn’t all that bad. I know it wasn’t as active as you usually like, but it’s still important and helps pay for this place so we don’t have to. And I like it there better than your dad’s place. Although, the clientele there can sometimes be a little more fun to be around,” she says as she winks my way. Jeez this girl and her dirty thoughts.

Along with my mom’s real estate business she runs, my dad also has a hunting and fishing guide business in the city. Just the normal kind of hunting, not the kind we do on our own. Unfortunately the important side doesn’t pay the bills so we still need to do some civilian work too. It works out though, since we can keep all these tourists out of the areas that are gonna get them killed. Every once in a while a few would come along that were our age and we would chat up a bit, until Dad or Dean walked in and would shut it down. We help out a lot with the management side of both businesses so we stayed in the city during our gap year to keep helping while also getting some distance from this life. It was a nice little break, but I did miss seeing the people here every day. And weapons training, definitely missed weapons training. It’s a great way to release some stress and I was for sure stressing about what to do after college.

During one of our nights out at the pool hall we met a couple women that worked with the FBI and they were telling us about some of the things they do and what it took to get a position there. Most of it sounded like things we already did here training wise, and we do some investigative work too with the intel we get from the different mythicals we catch and what the pack sends our way. If we get enough information about something that will impact humans we package it up as best we can without giving away too much and send it over to the local police. One of our friends here, Micah, works with them while he finishes up his degree so we do have that connection when needed and he’s told us about some of the things he’s seen in his time there so far. It seems like there is always evil out there, both human and mythical. I just hope that the little bit that we can do on both sides is enough to make a dent in that evil.

Alec’s POV- I was on my normal patrol route around our border closest to the hunters when I could sense something coming. It seemed far off, but gradually the sound of a dirt bike became louder. The hunters were chasing something. I hated the rule that we had to stay back unless something crossed into our territory. No doubt the hunters would screw something up and we could possibly miss something important. I get why the rule is there though. We don’t want them coming over here either, so the rule is the lesser of two evils. I use the pack mindlink, basically our own telepathic way of talking to each other so that even when we’re shifted we can communicate, to let my warriors know that there is something coming. They ask if I need back up and I tell them I can handle it, but I’ll need help getting everything cleaned up and someone to cover the rest of my patrol once I take this wolf down. As a werewolf, the spirit of my wolf and I share the same mind space and can communicate with

Alec’s POV continued- “I was thinking that we should reach out to the other packs again and ask them about the activity in their territories. Also I want to ask if there have been any banishments lately we might be unaware of that could be leading to the increased number of rogues. We could let them know about our theories and see if that tracks with what is going on over there too.” I tell him. “Those are very good suggestions, son. I know you have the right mind for this job. We can get on that throughout the week. This also brings up my reason for wanting to talk to you.” I had an idea this conversation was coming but I was hoping it would be something else. “And what would that be, Dad?” “We both know you are mentally ready for this job, I want to retire, and you’ve asked for the responsibility previously. My conditions haven’t changed and I wanted to know where your head is at with those conditions.” Last year I told my dad that I was ready to take over the pack and he disa

  • The Wolf Hunters   Chapter 5

Alec’s POV continued- I wake up early to the sound of the alarm blaring on my phone. I’m not a morning person, but as the future Alpha I have to set a good example. Every morning during the week starts out with training so we can stay fit and able to protect our pack. Training is mandatory for all pack warriors, but everyone is welcome to attend if they want to better themselves. It seems pointless to me to ban someone for trying to better themselves, especially if it benefits the pack as a whole as well. Some packs won’t let Omegas or other weaker wolves train. Some say they don’t want them to get any ideas in their heads to try a coup or something. That’s ridiculous to me. Obviously if you’re worried about those lower than you standing up against you, then you are doing something wrong and not treating them with the amount of respect they deserve. One of the things that I love about my pack is that everyone is respected and everyone does their jobs to the best of their ability, no

  • The Wolf Hunters   Chapter 6

Kade’s POV- I went to the meeting with the few warriors that were allowed, and like the others I was appalled to hear that an abused woman was running on her own to get away from whoever it was that did that to her. I had my own suspicions once I heard the direction that she was coming from. It made sense since everything else out of the ordinary was coming from that way too. Once the meeting started getting into the politics of the treaty and how to handle the hunters I kind of started to zone out a bit. I hate politics and drama. Give me a strategy briefing any day, but a political meeting? No thank you. I would much rather take care of the physical safety of the pack and showing others how they can help as well, than have to worry about all the drama. So of course as soon as there’s an opportunity to go on patrol I jump at it. When Alpha Zeke gives me the green light I excuse myself and practically run out of the office. My wolf Ace loves to run free in the forest and letting him o

  • The Wolf Hunters   Chapter 7

Cataleya’s POV continued- We head back up to our rooms and I go to take a nice hot shower. It feels amazing to let the water beat into my muscles and soothe away the soreness after a good training session. When I get out I grab some comfy jeans and a black tank top since it’s still hot outside, but I don’t want to get my legs all torn up if I have to go work outside today. I put on my hiking boots and grab a hair tie to put around my wrist just in case I need it later after my hair fully dries. As soon as I walk out of my door, Aria steps out of her place and she falls in line with me wearing something similar. Same brain, remember? “Oh my God I’m starving,” she grumbles as we head down towards the kitchen. When we get close we take a deep breath because the air smells delicious. Thankfully my mom has already made a bunch of food and has it laid out on the kitchen island, buffet style. “Aunt Jess, you are a lifesaver!” “Hey I may be getting older but I still work out and train too

  • The Wolf Hunters   Chapter 8

Dean’s POV- I was in my office going over the paperwork my dad sent over. Most of it was easy stuff he just wanted me to look at so I knew what was going on with the business. He always felt it was best to keep open communication about everything and I completely agree. It makes things so much easier without having to second guess about anything that someone else might be doing. It hasn’t been that long since everyone went their own ways to take care of our jobs for the day when I got a notice from Mark. He said that he saw something on one of the cameras near the pack border this morning, so he was keeping a close eye on it in case anything else came up and saw a rogue sniffing around that same area. Cataleya was already headed in that direction to work on the trail cams so she was already on his tail. I knew that after I lost one there was no way she would lose one too. I wasn’t that lucky. So I headed down to the holding cells to make sure that we had everything we would need rea

  • The Wolf Hunters   Chapter 9

Alec’s POV- After the meeting, I hang back in the packhouse to speak with Kade about what he saw with the hunters. We got the link from Jace that there was another rogue shortly after Kade went out, but then Kade sent a short link just saying ‘hunters’. Kinda cryptic but there wasn’t any call for help or link from anyone else on patrol in that area so we assumed everything went ok. Just then the front door flung open and I could practically feel the tension and aggression coming off of Kade as he stalked through the door, not caring to try and close it behind him. He starts to head off to his room but I get in his line of sight and stop him first. “Kade! What the hell happened to you? Why are you so grumpy?”“Huh?” he asks, finally registering that it’s me in front of him. “Oh, sorry. Nothing happened, I’m not grumpy. Saw the rogue, but there was already a hunter on him and they took him down before he crossed over. That’s it, end of story,” he says shortly.“Really? And it was the

Alec’s POV continued- “Dean,” I say, nodding to him as we walk towards each other. Then turning to his mom I lay on one of my biggest smiles. “Hi Jessica! How have you been?”“Save it, Wolfman! You know I’m already spoken for,” she says smiling back. She can tell I only said it like that to screw with Dean, but she shut it down real quick. “So tell me about this girl.” I quickly tell them about how we found Lucy and what the girls told me they learned from speaking to her.“That poor girl!” Jessica says. “Where is she?”“She’s in the SUV with some of my people. She’s still scared and nervous so I wanted to give her some time and tell you everything without her having to hear it over again.” “Good idea. If you guys don’t have any more information about her, that’s all I need from this meeting. I can go grab her and take her back to start getting her settled.”“That’s all I have, unless there’s anything else you need Dean?”“No, nothing else for her right now. We can try to find out m

Kade’s POV- It was actually pretty nice having an afternoon lunch with my mate, my Alpha, and my mate’s brother. At first I thought it would be a disaster. In some ways it was, seeing as how there was a fight with a bunch of drunk frat guys. Overall though I think that helped us all bond a little bit more. Anything to help this alliance work better I will take. I know Leya told me that Dean was on our side, but I will take any chance I can get to win her brother over. I think protecting her during the fight helped with that, even though she didn’t really need it. Letting some of my anger out helped to calm my wolf after seeing those guys trying to touch what’s mine. I didn’t want her to think that I wouldn’t let her defend herself so I tried to hold back as much as possible. I think she understood what I needed though and let me do what I had to do. Now that she and I are good, my actions on the football field are a lot better. More so than before I met her. I can control my wolf du

  • The Wolf Hunters   Chapter 50

Alec’s POV- I thought all hell was going to break loose when Kade came out and saw that someone was trying to hurt Leya. Thankfully that guy has more control than most wolves twice his age. It also helped that she was already in the middle of taking care of it before he could react. I had never really thought about Kade’s level of control before, but now that I do think about it the only time I’ve ever seen him out of control was when he first met his mate. The fact that he didn’t even let a growl slip when his mate’s safety was involved has me making a mental note to talk to him about that one day. Hell it even took everything in me not to react to the way these guys were behaving and one, I’m an Alpha, and two, it wasn’t even about my mate. These guys just couldn’t see past the booze induced haze they were living on and paid the price. It was laughable really what these guys considered fighting. The pups in our pack who haven’t even shifted yet know how to fight better than these

  • The Wolf Hunters   Chapter 49

Dean’s POV continued- I almost feel bad for these guys for a moment. They clearly have no idea what’s really about to happen. Then I remember how they’ve been talking to my sister and all those thoughts go away. It’s glaringly obvious when one of the guys on the other side of Asshole number 1 tries to throw a wild punch at me. I side step just in time kicking his leg out to trip the guy, who falls closer to Alec while still trying to connect his fist with something. Alec manages to grab the guy's arm as he comes flying through the air and uses it to shift the guy's momentum and slam him to the ground, then puts his foot on the back of the guy's neck. Up to this point it seemed like Alec was doing all he could to keep his own wolf at bay, but the Alpha in him wouldn’t let a fight to protect his friend's mate go by without jumping in to have some of his own fun. He shakes his head at the guy before putting in his two cents. “Those weak, cowardly, shady ass throws aren’t gonna help

  • The Wolf Hunters   Chapter 48

Dean’s POV continued- I turn back to Alec and he’s looking at me like I’m gonna blow up like a bomb. Or rather, like I did when I saw Kade with my sister for the first time after the game. I may have overreacted a bit that day, so sue me. Luckily I’ve had my time to adjust now though, and I’ve talked with each of them separately to know how they feel about each other. “Calm your tits Blackwood. I’m not gonna do anything as long as Kade doesn’t screw up and do something to hurt her.” Alec releases the breath he’s been holding since he noticed them walking up. Leya says something to Kade and he walks in while she waves at us and sits at a table close by. “Don’t worry about us. We don’t want to interrupt the little alpha pow wow you both have going on here.”“Alpha what?” Alec asks bewildered. “Don’t listen to her, she’s just mad she wasn’t invited,” I tell him as I shake my head. He just looks back and forth between us like we’re crazy as we don’t really interact with each other an

  • The Wolf Hunters   Chapter 47

Dean’s POV continued- Two weeks laterIt’s been a little while since this whole alliance started but so far it’s going smooth. Slow, but smooth. We haven’t had any fights break out amongst each other and everyone was being cooperative, which is nice. Even the rogue we tried to question. However, information has been coming in at a glacial pace. Alec was able to talk to a witch they are familiar with who found an antidote that could work to counteract the spell she thinks was used. The major downside though is that it takes time to make. It should be ready early Saturday morning, so we planned to get together after the game to try it out. Luckily it was an afternoon game so we would still have time and not have to wait until Sunday. This also gives us another day for any follow ups we might need depending on what information we are able to get before having to go back to classes. Our alliance has also had an unintended positive outcome. Football practices have been going better than

  • The Wolf Hunters   Chapter 46

Dean’s POV- The first meeting yesterday was mostly a success. It started a little rough, but by the end I think we really had a good flow going and no one seemed to care what species the other was. I even saw my dad relax a little while we were all going through the intel, but not much and it didn’t last. Progress though, am I right?I got through my classes pretty easily but my mind kept running through the scenarios and questions we would have for the rogue in a few days. Hopefully Alec’s contact could come through for us by then. I’m a little embarrassed to say that I was too far into my mind thinking about all this that I let my guard down and wasn’t ready when Kade came up to me right before I went into the athletic building. He jump-scared the shit out of me. “Jeez man what the fuck?!” I said as I grabbed my chest to somehow magically slow my heart rate down. I wanted to smack the little shit when I could see him trying to stop the shit-eating grin that was trying to take up

  • The Wolf Hunters   Chapter 45

Kade’s POV- I knew that my mate was smart. I knew that she was a badass hunter. I didn’t, however, know that she would be this involved in everything going on. I knew that she took down a rogue, I mean I watched it happen, but I didn’t know that basically everything they have came from her. From what happened in the meeting it seemed like she is the only reason why we have any information at all. I should have known though. When she first told me that her family would know it was her that leaked information if I knew what they found out, I thought she was just being dramatic. That didn’t really seem like her style but I wasn’t thinking straight. I also now kind of understood why she was nervous about her dad knowing about us after I saw him and how he was reacting during the meeting. He was tense the entire time, even more so when there was some growling. For an older man he sure was quick in grabbing a weapon. It seemed like he was waiting for the shoe to drop the entire time and

  • The Wolf Hunters   Chapter 44

Alec’s POV continued- There were only a few people that left, but on the bright side, Dean and Cataleya’s dad was one of them. Once the door closed I could visibly see Kade let out a breath. I wasn’t the only one either as I saw my dad raise his eyebrow at Kade. I don’t think anyone has told him about Kade and Cataleya, but he’s always been a good Alpha and he knows how to look at the little things with his pack.A few of us on both sides got up just to switch seats so that we would be closer and make it easier to collaborate. Cataleya pulled out another laptop that was automatically linked to the other smartboard in the room. She pulled up a blank document and labeled it ‘interrogation notes’. “So I figure we should start out making a list of what we want to know, then sort out the wording on the different yes or no questions we can ask that would lead to those answers. Also, feel free to share any information you have on the topics we have questions for. The more background inform

  • The Wolf Hunters   Chapter 43

Alec’s POV- When Dean said that someone with our pack was involved, every single wolf there let out a low growl that reverberated through the room. To his credit, Dean didn’t miss a beat and threw his hand out to stop most of the hunters, including his dad, who had started to get in defensive positions. “Everyone relax. If I believed anyone in this room could be involved then none of them would be here,” Dean said. The hunters slowly sit back and relax a little before Dean continues. “While the non verbal system is good for getting past the spell, it can also bring more questions than answers and doesn’t specify exactly who or how the pack might be involved. This is why I wanted to only bring those I trust into the meeting.” Oh he’s good. Play up the egos of those involved to try and gloss over not bringing us in sooner. I can’t help but smirk a little as it’s probably the same thing I would have done. I glance over to my dad and see that the little snarl at the corner of his mout
