Alec’s POV- After the meeting, I hang back in the packhouse to speak with Kade about what he saw with the hunters. We got the link from Jace that there was another rogue shortly after Kade went out, but then Kade sent a short link just saying ‘hunters’. Kinda cryptic but there wasn’t any call for help or link from anyone else on patrol in that area so we assumed everything went ok. Just then the front door flung open and I could practically feel the tension and aggression coming off of Kade as he stalked through the door, not caring to try and close it behind him. He starts to head off to his room but I get in his line of sight and stop him first. “Kade! What the hell happened to you? Why are you so grumpy?”“Huh?” he asks, finally registering that it’s me in front of him. “Oh, sorry. Nothing happened, I’m not grumpy. Saw the rogue, but there was already a hunter on him and they took him down before he crossed over. That’s it, end of story,” he says shortly.“Really? And it was the
Alec’s POV continued- “Dean,” I say, nodding to him as we walk towards each other. Then turning to his mom I lay on one of my biggest smiles. “Hi Jessica! How have you been?”“Save it, Wolfman! You know I’m already spoken for,” she says smiling back. She can tell I only said it like that to screw with Dean, but she shut it down real quick. “So tell me about this girl.” I quickly tell them about how we found Lucy and what the girls told me they learned from speaking to her.“That poor girl!” Jessica says. “Where is she?”“She’s in the SUV with some of my people. She’s still scared and nervous so I wanted to give her some time and tell you everything without her having to hear it over again.” “Good idea. If you guys don’t have any more information about her, that’s all I need from this meeting. I can go grab her and take her back to start getting her settled.”“That’s all I have, unless there’s anything else you need Dean?”“No, nothing else for her right now. We can try to find out m
Dean’s POV- This is dumb. I know deep down it’s the right thing to do, but it’s still dumb. I’m driving back to base silently with Alec and Zander, of all people, in my car. I can just imagine the look on my dad’s face if he sees me walking in with these guys. He’s always hated the wolves and has tried to instill it in me that I can never trust a wolf. For the most part I haven’t had any major issues, I just never really liked them. Alec acted like a spoiled little prick when I first met him and Zander Jackson goes with everything Alec says like a little lap dog. Ok maybe not that extreme but pretty close. I guess being a beta will do that to you. Alec caught me off guard when he yelled at me, even more so because he made sense. It actually seemed like he gave a damn about what was going on and wasn’t just sent on this mission by his daddy. Color me surprised. And then he had to go and open his big fat mouth.“So, Captain, are you ready for the season to start?” Alec said.I gave him
Dean’s POV continued- The cells are usually kept pretty dark. Since the wolves have better night vision it’s not a problem for them, but when we turn the bright spot lights on it sure makes it a lot worse for them too. We keep the observation area dark so the rogue can’t see everyone in the room. I decided not to tell Alec and Zander because, well, I still wanted to have a little fun. We got to the interrogation area and I held up a hand so they knew to hold back a bit, then I gave the signal for the lights. The flinching and barely audibly cursing coming from the wolves? Worth it. It took a second for them to recover and I tried my best to hide my smirk as Alec looked at me. “Seriously? Thanks for the warning,” he whispered so only we could hear. I just winked back at him. Yeah he knew I did it on purpose, no reason to hide it. I turned to the rogue and made sure that he was sufficiently bound. Once satisfied, I decided we would start. He was still knocked out but the drug should b
Alec’s POV- Son of a bitch! I knew that the rogue would try something to piss me off, and I walked right into it. I’m usually good at keeping my emotions at bay, but for some reason what he said and how he said it just flipped the switch and Gage started to take over. He would never hurt an innocent, but try and tell the self-righteous Dean that. He had no business kicking us out of the interrogation like that. I would have been fine after a minute to calm Gage down but he didn’t give me or Zander a chance to tell him. I didn’t get to ask any questions or try my own style on the rogue. He wasted such a great opportunity because he was scared. I was hoping for so much more than that. It just added to my frustration, so as soon as we got to the border I told Dean’s guys to let us out and shifted into Gage before taking off back towards the pack house. The run will let me work through this anger and also still talk to Zander in the link. Alec: I’m sorry man. I don’t know why I reacted
Alec’s POV continued- Keira and Amara get to my office just a few moments later. They hadn’t gone far after just meeting here with everyone else, so they were a little confused as to why I asked them back so quickly. “What’s going on Alpha?” Keira asks when they get back in.“Go ahead and sit down. I wanted to speak with you both some more on what you guys talked about with Lucy and what she told you happened. I want to make sure we didn’t miss something that might help.”“Ok well what do you want to know? We told you the major things she told us already,” Amara says.“Yeah I got the Cliff’s notes version, but I want to know everything she said, in detail. And also any feelings you might have gotten from her or anything that you could see from her reactions.” I know it’s a long shot but if I tell my pack to look deeper into things, I have to as well. “Start from the top.”“When we first saw her she was shaking so bad it looked like she was in shock or something,” Keira started. “Alp
Alec’s POV continued- After a couple hours of research and an almost warm plate of dinner my mom brought to my office, I decided I needed a break. Zander being the awesome Beta that he is, or will be, must have felt it because he came into my office as soon as I closed down my computer. “Hey man! You’re not gonna find anything else out right now. You’ve been in here all day. I know that you’re upset about what happened with Dean, but it’s time to let it go and have some fun.”“Is that so? And what makes you such an expert?”“I just so happen to be your best friend and your Beta. That puts me on expert level when it comes to helping you out.”I laugh at his comment, and the fact that he’s right. At this point he probably knows me better than me. “It just so happens I was thinking the same thing. I need a break from all this. What did you have in mind?” I ask him. He looks back at me with a smirk and I have a feeling I know where this is going. “A couple drinks, some music and fun…we
Cataleya’s POV- I still can’t believe Dean would shut me out like that. He knows that I’m the best chance at getting information. Everyone underestimates me, especially rogues, but he usually knows how to best use all of the options he has. It better not be some overprotective bullshit because Alec and his beta were here. I can handle myself and he knows it. I was still in the surveillance office with Mark when we heard a loud growl and then a minute later Dean was kicking the wolves off the territory. I was able to see and hear everything after they came out of the basement without Dean knowing I could. I was able to talk to one of the guys down there and found out what set off Alec’s wolf. All that testosterone down there, I knew nothing would come out of that interrogation. These rogues haven’t responded to any threats that the guys have put out there. Thinking about the rogue got me thinking about when I took him down this morning and seeing the pack wolf there. The guy who seem
Kade’s POV- It was actually pretty nice having an afternoon lunch with my mate, my Alpha, and my mate’s brother. At first I thought it would be a disaster. In some ways it was, seeing as how there was a fight with a bunch of drunk frat guys. Overall though I think that helped us all bond a little bit more. Anything to help this alliance work better I will take. I know Leya told me that Dean was on our side, but I will take any chance I can get to win her brother over. I think protecting her during the fight helped with that, even though she didn’t really need it. Letting some of my anger out helped to calm my wolf after seeing those guys trying to touch what’s mine. I didn’t want her to think that I wouldn’t let her defend herself so I tried to hold back as much as possible. I think she understood what I needed though and let me do what I had to do. Now that she and I are good, my actions on the football field are a lot better. More so than before I met her. I can control my wolf du
Alec’s POV- I thought all hell was going to break loose when Kade came out and saw that someone was trying to hurt Leya. Thankfully that guy has more control than most wolves twice his age. It also helped that she was already in the middle of taking care of it before he could react. I had never really thought about Kade’s level of control before, but now that I do think about it the only time I’ve ever seen him out of control was when he first met his mate. The fact that he didn’t even let a growl slip when his mate’s safety was involved has me making a mental note to talk to him about that one day. Hell it even took everything in me not to react to the way these guys were behaving and one, I’m an Alpha, and two, it wasn’t even about my mate. These guys just couldn’t see past the booze induced haze they were living on and paid the price. It was laughable really what these guys considered fighting. The pups in our pack who haven’t even shifted yet know how to fight better than these
Dean’s POV continued- I almost feel bad for these guys for a moment. They clearly have no idea what’s really about to happen. Then I remember how they’ve been talking to my sister and all those thoughts go away. It’s glaringly obvious when one of the guys on the other side of Asshole number 1 tries to throw a wild punch at me. I side step just in time kicking his leg out to trip the guy, who falls closer to Alec while still trying to connect his fist with something. Alec manages to grab the guy's arm as he comes flying through the air and uses it to shift the guy's momentum and slam him to the ground, then puts his foot on the back of the guy's neck. Up to this point it seemed like Alec was doing all he could to keep his own wolf at bay, but the Alpha in him wouldn’t let a fight to protect his friend's mate go by without jumping in to have some of his own fun. He shakes his head at the guy before putting in his two cents. “Those weak, cowardly, shady ass throws aren’t gonna help
Dean’s POV continued- I turn back to Alec and he’s looking at me like I’m gonna blow up like a bomb. Or rather, like I did when I saw Kade with my sister for the first time after the game. I may have overreacted a bit that day, so sue me. Luckily I’ve had my time to adjust now though, and I’ve talked with each of them separately to know how they feel about each other. “Calm your tits Blackwood. I’m not gonna do anything as long as Kade doesn’t screw up and do something to hurt her.” Alec releases the breath he’s been holding since he noticed them walking up. Leya says something to Kade and he walks in while she waves at us and sits at a table close by. “Don’t worry about us. We don’t want to interrupt the little alpha pow wow you both have going on here.”“Alpha what?” Alec asks bewildered. “Don’t listen to her, she’s just mad she wasn’t invited,” I tell him as I shake my head. He just looks back and forth between us like we’re crazy as we don’t really interact with each other an
Dean’s POV continued- Two weeks laterIt’s been a little while since this whole alliance started but so far it’s going smooth. Slow, but smooth. We haven’t had any fights break out amongst each other and everyone was being cooperative, which is nice. Even the rogue we tried to question. However, information has been coming in at a glacial pace. Alec was able to talk to a witch they are familiar with who found an antidote that could work to counteract the spell she thinks was used. The major downside though is that it takes time to make. It should be ready early Saturday morning, so we planned to get together after the game to try it out. Luckily it was an afternoon game so we would still have time and not have to wait until Sunday. This also gives us another day for any follow ups we might need depending on what information we are able to get before having to go back to classes. Our alliance has also had an unintended positive outcome. Football practices have been going better than
Dean’s POV- The first meeting yesterday was mostly a success. It started a little rough, but by the end I think we really had a good flow going and no one seemed to care what species the other was. I even saw my dad relax a little while we were all going through the intel, but not much and it didn’t last. Progress though, am I right?I got through my classes pretty easily but my mind kept running through the scenarios and questions we would have for the rogue in a few days. Hopefully Alec’s contact could come through for us by then. I’m a little embarrassed to say that I was too far into my mind thinking about all this that I let my guard down and wasn’t ready when Kade came up to me right before I went into the athletic building. He jump-scared the shit out of me. “Jeez man what the fuck?!” I said as I grabbed my chest to somehow magically slow my heart rate down. I wanted to smack the little shit when I could see him trying to stop the shit-eating grin that was trying to take up
Kade’s POV- I knew that my mate was smart. I knew that she was a badass hunter. I didn’t, however, know that she would be this involved in everything going on. I knew that she took down a rogue, I mean I watched it happen, but I didn’t know that basically everything they have came from her. From what happened in the meeting it seemed like she is the only reason why we have any information at all. I should have known though. When she first told me that her family would know it was her that leaked information if I knew what they found out, I thought she was just being dramatic. That didn’t really seem like her style but I wasn’t thinking straight. I also now kind of understood why she was nervous about her dad knowing about us after I saw him and how he was reacting during the meeting. He was tense the entire time, even more so when there was some growling. For an older man he sure was quick in grabbing a weapon. It seemed like he was waiting for the shoe to drop the entire time and
Alec’s POV continued- There were only a few people that left, but on the bright side, Dean and Cataleya’s dad was one of them. Once the door closed I could visibly see Kade let out a breath. I wasn’t the only one either as I saw my dad raise his eyebrow at Kade. I don’t think anyone has told him about Kade and Cataleya, but he’s always been a good Alpha and he knows how to look at the little things with his pack.A few of us on both sides got up just to switch seats so that we would be closer and make it easier to collaborate. Cataleya pulled out another laptop that was automatically linked to the other smartboard in the room. She pulled up a blank document and labeled it ‘interrogation notes’. “So I figure we should start out making a list of what we want to know, then sort out the wording on the different yes or no questions we can ask that would lead to those answers. Also, feel free to share any information you have on the topics we have questions for. The more background inform
Alec’s POV- When Dean said that someone with our pack was involved, every single wolf there let out a low growl that reverberated through the room. To his credit, Dean didn’t miss a beat and threw his hand out to stop most of the hunters, including his dad, who had started to get in defensive positions. “Everyone relax. If I believed anyone in this room could be involved then none of them would be here,” Dean said. The hunters slowly sit back and relax a little before Dean continues. “While the non verbal system is good for getting past the spell, it can also bring more questions than answers and doesn’t specify exactly who or how the pack might be involved. This is why I wanted to only bring those I trust into the meeting.” Oh he’s good. Play up the egos of those involved to try and gloss over not bringing us in sooner. I can’t help but smirk a little as it’s probably the same thing I would have done. I glance over to my dad and see that the little snarl at the corner of his mout
