Chapter 3: The Laboratory

Daisy Dyer’s POV

I was cleaning up the mess that we made last night before Lea and Barb helped me out. They were chatting about their researches and I was happy to know that I will be conducting my experiment later. They even gave some points on how to do it.

“You will be spending a lot of time alone. I hope you will meet with your advisor regularly. They will help you out in everything that they can,” Lea said as she was putting the trash into the plastic.

“Yeah and remember no romance with your partner or anyone that will be working with you. It comes with complication,” Barb said as I laughed at her statement.

“What? It’s true you know.” She said before she was frowning at me.

“Okay, I’m sorry. I was making fun of you. I hope you aren’t in that situation before,” I said as Lea grinned.

 “She was,”

 “No way!”

“Okay, enough. That was in the past and I was in my Master’s program. I was dumb and young at that time,” she defended herself.

“Tell me, was he hot?” I asked Barb before she shivered.

“I hope I will never meet him ever again,” she said before she was tying the plastic and I was smiling at them.

“Thank you so much for coming. I cannot think anything else but to be happy with you guys,” I said as I was looking at my best friends.

“No worries, we were here for you, Dee. And if anything you want at all, shoot us a message. We might as well look for it together,” Lea said as she was smiling at us. Sometimes, I think Lea was like our mother of the group.

“And don’t forget to shoot me a message as well. Who knows, I might find something interesting for you to try later,” Barb said as I was smiling at them before we were hugging and they went out with our trash. I looked at the clock and it was 8:30 AM. I might as well get ready for my lab first visit.

I was smiling before I went to the bathroom and hopped in for a quick shower. I was looking around before I was humming while showering. I was happy and excited as I was looking forward to my lab.

After that, I went out of the shower and I was putting some lotion on my body. I went to pick my usual outfit, jean with blouse since it was Spring and the air was somewhat cold still. I was combing my hair with a comb when I was looking at myself in the mirror.

I was looking at myself before I was satisfied with my appearance. I went to take my backpack as I was ready to put this lifestyle into my normal routine. I was looking at the boxes that my aunt said that it was important for my research.

 My father’s work.

I was staring at it before I sighed. I don’t think I might look at it when I go over the safety of the lab. I bit my lower lips before I went out of the bedroom, not wanting to think about it.

“I will check it out later,” I said as I went out of the apartment before I was closing the door and locked it. Lea said that I should take the subway and stopped at the university station. Then I have to walk from there to the campus. There were buses but it was usually crowded in the morning.

I shrugged before I went to the subway station and I took the train. I was listening to music when I was looking around the station. People were not that crowded in the morning but maybe because I was getting in from my neighborhood, which was not for the wealthy people.

I must say, I loved it when people are not that crowded with public transport.

I was smiling when I was sitting on the subway before I was looking at the city. It was gorgeous and more building that the simple life that I led in the Midwest. I was smiling before I was looking at the city.

I wondered what aunt Milly was doing right now.

And with that, I took out my phone and I shot her a message to ask her what she was doing. Then I remember that she was 3 hours late from me. I know, the United States has a very different time zone. I think they have three and according to your place, you will have that time zone.

I never care about it before until I came to NYC.

I was sighing before I was looking at the city again. Then the station was stopping at my stop, university station. I hopped off and I went to walk from the station to the campus while listening to music.

I was smiling before I was bumping into someone and the papers that they were carrying were on the floor. I took my earphone off before I was helping him out.

“I’m so sorry. I don’t look where I was going,” I said as I was picking up the papers before I was touching his hand. Electric was going off in my body before I turned to look into the familiar grey orbs. It was as if I have met this guy before.

“Hey, you’re the newcomer to our lab,” he stated as I was blinking at him. He knew me as well apparently. He was smiling at me before we stood up and I was looking at him. I was trying to remember him but I was not having a recollection where and when.

“You do know me, don’t you?” He asked as I was blinking at him. I smiled sheepishly before I was clearing my throat to him.

“I’m sorry. I don’t think I remember. Who are you again?” I said before his smile flattened. It seems that he was the only one that remembers you.

 You were an idiot!

I was smiling apologetically at him before he was shaking his head. He then turned to look at me and smiled.

“I cannot believe I found the first person that did not remember or recognize me. Seriously, I was hurt by that,” he said before I was looking at the papers. It has his name on it.

 Dylan Windell.

Now, where I heard that name before? Think, Daisy, think. I think my brain was hardwired by the wine last night. I turned to look at him before I was shaking my head.

“Sorry, I must have missed your name somewhere. If anything, I blame the alcohol,” I said as I was smiling at him before we were started to walk toward the building.

“So, tell me something, Daisy, is this your tactic to get me close to you, or do you just simply don’t remember?” He asked as I was laughing at his statement. I shook my head before I was looking at him.

 “What do you think?”

“I think you were trying to play hard to get with me,” the man said as he opened the door and I was stunned to see the lab.

“And here, I wanted to welcome you to our lab, partner,” he said as I was looking at him. His easy smile, his stormy orbs, and his handsome face.

 Of course!

It was from yesterday when I was looking at the newcomer into Lucia’s office. I think he was the other student that was under her supervision. I heard that he was gifted and I hoped to get some of his knowledge as well. I smiled at him before I put the scientific papers on the table next to his stack.

“No wonder I can’t remember. You’re the other student that was interested in the meteorite. I don’t think we officially met but I’m Daisy,” I said as was extending my hand to him. He looked at it before he took it.

 Again, sparks fly.

“And you already read my name. Dylan Windell, nice to make your acquaintance,” he said as I was smiling at him. I released his hand before he reluctantly losing his grip.

“So, this is the lab that Lucia told me about,” I said as I was looking around. They have the latest equipment such as the mass spectrometer and the rock samples that they have collected over the decades.

“Yeah, this is the pride of the Geology department. Now, I know that you will love it after visiting but we have to take precaution before we can let you use all the items in here,” Dylan said as he was putting on the slide and I was taking the first seat in the lab.

“Now, for the interesting part of the lab safety…” he said as he was smirking at me. I chuckled at his reaction before he started the video.

I guess this will never get old.

The video focused on the safety of the lab and how to read the labels. They also told us what to do if we were exposed to the chemical or something like that. When the video ended, it was the longest 9 minutes of my life.

“Well, that’s…something,” I said as I was looking at Dylan who was staring at me.

“Yes and with that, I wanted to welcome you to the lab officially, Ms. Daisy Dyer,” he said as he smiled at me. I smiled at him as well.

“Likewise, Mr. Dylan Windell. I hope that we get along just fine,” I said as his eyes were stormy at me. I blinked and it was shining with a gleam.

 Huh.

I think this will be the start of a beautiful friendship until that moment will distract us for a very long time.
