It has been almost two hundred years since a shifter walked between the fire of the blue and red dragon without being burnt to a crisp. That was what Cole was about to do. Even knowing that he had defeated their masters and that he is now their ruler, he still needed to be crowned before all and the best way for him to be crowned and accepted as the new king of shifters was if he could survive the flames. He would. He knew he would but it did not change the fact that he was still regarded to walk through flames.
“My king…” The lynx shifter croaked, the last of her kind, protected by other types of shifters because she was the oldest among all. Over a thousand years and with the gift of foresight, she was leaning heavily on her staff as she and the small band of witnesses all waited to see Cole survive, witnesses taken from each type of shifter that exist, witnesses that will go back to their people and tell them that a new king is crowned, the years of terror for the shifting community was over. “…sometime this year, I am not going to live much longer.” The woman ended while laughter sounded behind him.
Cole smiled at the laughter, he knew that they were not really laughing at him, Shifters were filled with emotions and lived life the best way they can, including laughing at the new king because he was scared to take the throne because of a little obstacle after he had already killed the major one that was blocking him.
Taking a deep breathe, Cole steeled his nerves as he took a step forward, time to accept his destiny. He had watched shifters die, him taking the power will ensure that he would move the entire race forward. Everybody was beaten down, thinking it will not be possible but he knew better. Even with the crisis the shifters were facing. The hunting of shifter by other Supernatural races and the humans moving on progressively. They could not hide among them anymore but it was okay, Cole had plans that will ensure that upcoming generations of shifters will not hide who they are but learn to be the best version of themselves, regardless of anything.
With another step forward, he envisioned homes been built deep in the forests, filled with the best life has to offer, laughing children and smiling parents, a mixture of two legged and four legged forms. And so the dreams and aspiration builds until he could feel the heat of the flames and even then, keeping his eyes opened, he walked into the flames for his race because he was their king.
The flames did not hurt the way he thought they would. Instead, it was like the hurt of the very first shift, your bones and skins melting and breaking, refashioning into something else, a transformation was happening.
The flames stopped and Cole locked his knees in, aware that he was visible to the witnesses, he could not afford to show weakness in front of them. The Dragons transformed to their Two legged selves and gestured at the throne a little way away from him. Less than ten steps but he had no choice. He would go through this process and bear every agony because he was the king.
Each step was torture but he did it anyway. Until he got to the throne and sank down on it gratefully. He looked at the witnesses and at once, they all went on their knees, including the Lynx, even as she started the chant.
“Long live the Were King.”
“Long live the king.”

“I was expecting you.” The Voice that came from within the tent was so weak, nothing like the sarcastic woman from earlier or the strong voice leading the chant.
“Of course you were.” Colle answered even as he moved to the bedside of the only mother he ever knew, he was going to miss her. Normally wolves do not abandon their pups but somehow, he ended up with a lynx who protected him and trained him in the king’s court only for him to reach maturity and kill the king to be the new leader. With her gift of foresight, Colle knew better than to ask questions or for explanations, especially when he knew that he was not ready for it.“You make it sound like I am death.” Cole joked and as he expected, she laughed.
What he did not expect was her words after her laughter. “No, that would be much late tonight.”
“You shouldn’t have stressed yourself.” Cole said deciding to ignore the words but as usual, the lynx who trained him with qualities not usually possessed by Lynxes did not let him evade the issue.
“You need to deal with the fact that you will be alone without family.”
“I have always being alone…” Cole tried to act like it did not affect him but he was shaken. His mother would not experience the changes he was bringing into the world. She would not know of the difference because she would be dead.
He was also aware that she did her best, hanging on to life to see him being King but could she not hang on for just a little more, he was not ready to let her go. He would never be ready for that.
“You will be alone for a very long time, my son but it will not be forever, you will be alone when mental birds fly the air but you will find your mate in the presence of the Primordial Vampire leader mate.” She gripped his hands, her eyes wet with tears. “You will always make me proud and I would have never asked for a better son.”
Cole started crying when he felt strength drained out of the woman, lying, she had used her shifter strength to pass that message and now she was weak and dying.
Cole remained with her through the night and the next morning when he stepped out of the tent, he was truly alone in the world.
But he had hope, he would wait, for his mate and then he would not be alone much longer.
Three hundred years later, he was still waiting and much closer to having his mate than ever and how did he know this? Because Vincent, leader of the Vampire race finally had a mate and mental birds already existed.
Myra knew all about sex and consent, when you are of the ubis race, there is one thing you have to be careful of and it was consent. The three incubus in front of her were going against that rule and she was watching, just one more marker remain for them to cross and then they were hers to punish and deal with.“L- Leave me alone.” The young succubus which they surrounded and were mercilessly teasing and suffocating with their pheromones said shakily, even with her pupils dilated. Myra could feel the potency from her perch a little far from them and the fact that she could feel it when it was not directed to her just shows how strong it really was and what this scene that was playing out before her really is.Rape.“But we can make you feel so good instead of doing that. Just imagine how sated you would feel afterwards.” One of them said, stepping closer to her.“I did not gi
Myra loves the journey whenever she leaves her settlement and moves on one of the supposed ambassadorial jobs which she always goes to. She might not like the courts and the attitude of other supernaturals especially the snobby ones but there was always one part of the journey she loved, her being on the road. She could always teleport to where she was going but she finds it better to move among the human population. Their overcrowded cities and ill-mannered tempers makes it the perfect feeding ground for her and it was a change up from the usual supernatural diet. She had discovered that their emotions came second to none other but her own race and their memories could easily be modified. And the major reason why she likes travelling among humans was that she gets the peace and quiet, time away from other supernaturals and that was why she was surprised to see a familiar blond hair a few paces ahead.Jacob, one of the vampire leaders, th
Myra watched the leader of the vampire council kneel beside his mate, the pregnant female and tried to calm her down, reassuring her that he was fine. The female was still looking strained and worried despite her mate reassurance.“That was not a good move at all.” The other woman who arrived said glaring at Myra, Myra knew she was the huntress and her using her powers did not endear her to either of the women.“I know that it was not a good move but I was forced to react that way, I saw myself as threatened and I have been attacked enough for a life time by vampires.” Myra replied and as usual. She just couldn’t help herself but add. “Besides it was not meant for them, they chose to appear at that exact moment, that is not my fault.”The room was silent as everybody including the friendly Jessica glared at her.“How about I kill you for attacking my mate, your mother would not be abl
Three hours later, Myra was surprising laughing and joking with Ashley and Gwen as they had drinks in a bar not so far from the council building. Myra learnt that they were closer to her age than their mates. Granted she was older than them. “God, how I wish for some alcohol right now?” Gwen mumbled, eyeing Myra drink with greater interest than any pregnant woman should have. “You can’t, you are pregnant.” Ashley cautioned as he took the liberty to keep the alcoholic drinks away from Gwen side of the table and keep the juice flavored drinks to Gwen side. “This is discrimination of the highest standards. Gwen griped even as she drank heavily from her cup. “You are the first pregnant vampire I have ever seen.” Myra slurred, she needed to stop while she was ahead, she was drunk than she anticipated but then again, she was planning on burning it all away when she visited the bathroom next. “Yep, that’s me. Making history.” Gwen replied. “Your mate is history.” Myra snorted and the
Cole was shocked when he came to visit Vince, without Vince approval in his home because he just sometimes loved riling up the other rulers just as much as they love making him angry but Vince restrained himself barely from attacking Cole at the breach. He was still arguing with Vince when the scent hit him. “Mate.” He growled out unconsciously as his body tightened with tension. The only reason he did not go after the scent was because the scent was coming closer to him.“And you are here? Apparently you have more restraint than what I thought of your race.” Vince said sarcastically but he had choose the right day to make a joke like that because Cole would not shift his attention away from the door, even to glare at Vince for his words. “That is because she is coming this way.” Cole responded, his teeth had already partially shifted to that of his wolf. Vince sniffed the air and only scent his mate and the succubus on their way. “Oh hell.” Vince whispered. “What?” Cole growled.
“What are you doing here?” Myra asked, her tone all confrontational. “Err, looking for you.” Cole replied like it was the dumbest question ever which Myra should know because mates are rarely separated during the first few weeks since their mating and it applied to all races. “Shouldn’t you be still sleeping?” Myra asked, swallowing air loudly when Cole walked to her, the same way he did when she was ranting. Like he was on a hunt and she was his prey. “You only wore me out because that’s my first time, don’t count on it again.” He growled leaning into her space while Myra seemed to watch him transfixed. “I would have never suspected that The Were king was a virgin.” Vince whispered loudly just to rib Cole who stared at his vampire counterpart out of the corner of his eyes. “First time with a Succubus, don’t act like my words mean anything else besides why are you having some inane pleasure from this, what are you? Twelve?” Cole asked Vince who shrugged. “It is annoying you so I
Cole walked into the study where the vampire councils, also known as the primordials of the vampire race all stood in while Vince made a call. “I understand that it is the practice of your people but surely you can revise. She is the mate of the Were king.”“That is good Sir.” A male voice replied. “She would still be queen, just not of the race she was trained to rule.” “But being banished, that is too far. I was not aware of this.” Vince grated. “Each race has their customs and this is one of our most upheld ones, it is not yours to be aware of so please I suggest that you leave this issue alone, Myra would understand.” The voice replied. “This is ridiculous Lord Stan, why am I speaking you. I demand to be on call with the queen.” Vince gave a growl that would make any shifter appreciative of the finesse used. “The queen is indisposed as of the moment but I will tell her you call so she can give you a call when she can.” Lord Stan answered and then ended the call. “He just end
If there was one thing that Myra hates, it was when someone was trying to intimidate her, she was used to power plays and had enough diplomacy training behind her to know that this woman was the one in wrong already. “A guest for now, you?” Myra asked, shifting back, unwilling to start a fight without her knowing the person and she was uncomfortable with someone being in her space, of course the only person she allow that was Cole and it was purely because he was her mate.“A high ranking member of this pack, soon to be future Luna. Now I know for a fact that you are not one of us and might just be a follower of power since it was all it took for you to open your legs…” The woman started ranting. “Are you sure you want to say those words to me, they seem like fighting words and I will not be held responsible for my reactions to them.” I warned because I was always fair in trashing my opponents and she deserved the warning because she was getting close to my retaliate-no-matter-what
Myra knew that with her telling Cole the news, his over protective instinct was going to be in overdrive and there was nothing which she could do about that but she didn’t expect him to try and imprison her. “Be serious Cole.” I will not allow you to keep me in the room while I will relate what happened with the angels to the others through a voice call. Be serious.” “I am completely serious. It is not like they need to see your presence, they would completely understand why I am keeping you to myself and it would be good practice for them since they will to see you in a while…” Cole answered. “Now, you are just insane if you think I will remain in this room, during the term of this pregnancy.” Myra rolled her eyes at Cole. “Not, this room. I will make the wing out of boundary and you can move around.” Cole replied seriously. Myra sighed, she was getting tired of this from Cole. “You are going to have to cut back on this instincts of yours because there is no way I would let you
It was all wrong. The timing and everything. Cole woke up to see that his castle was under attack. Something which he was not prepared for. They were overwhelmed before they could even send for help. And the help was not coming in time the rogue wolves who had ran away formed majority of the army with a few other races involved but they were all focusing their attention on a settlement with less than a hundred persons in it. They were losing and very badly too. “We have to leave in the next five minutes or we are all dead.” Brett said to Cole through the pack link, they were fighting and lost at different location, killing and maiming the ones which they could get their hands on. “Okay, then I will call for a retreat soon.” Cole called back at Brett but his heart was heavy, there was no way in which he wanted to call for a retreat all by himself, he didn’t want that option but he had no choice, the shifter world would be greatly demoralized if they retreated and could not defend th
Myra noticed the portal after she landed on Moe. How could she not? When it was the only thing that was giving off light in the place. Something which after a quick look around, proved to be an underground cave. The portal was pulsing with its aqua blue light, the rhythm close to that of a heartbeat. “I know that you are stunned but can you please no0t be stunned while you are on top of me. Your weight is much you know.” Moe groaned from other Myra and Myra quickly stood up from where she was crushing Moe to the ground and helped her to stand while apologizing. “So sorry Moe.” “It’s okay, you were stunned which is understandable but I will pay you back for it in the future no worries.” Moe replied with a smile before she noticed the light and her smile wiped off. “What is that?” She asked, adoration was present in her voice as she moved closer to it as if it was captivating her. When Moe passed Myra as if she wanted to continue towards the light, Myra grabbed a hold of Moe and th
Courtney appeared late that day in the Vince castle once more, hoping to see if she could talk to Vince first about what was going on before she could face the mates of the two women who she left behind. She didn’t know what was going on between Caleb and Moe but at least Caleb was willing to say that he felt a connection between them but nothing more. Her luck ran out because when she appeared, Cole and Carson alongside with Vince were the ones who were in the study this time around. That was the only place in Vince home where he allowed other vampires to be teleporting to. “Courtney?” Carson said as they all turned to look at her. They were all surprised to see her like Gwen and the rest didn’t mention anything about her visiting at first. And now she just had to ruin it. “You are back?” Cole asked smiling then he paused as he frowned. “Why can’t I still feel Myra as much as I normally can? Is she waiting for me at our home?” Courtney cringed as she rubbed the back of her head
“Finally, you are here.” Myra turned fully to look at Moe from where she had sat down waiting for Moe to come back with Courtney. Myra frowned when she saw that the said person was not with Moe. “Don’t tell me that she refused to come back with you. I am getting tired of the push and pull that we have going on. Yes she is older than us and basically hates me because I am a succubus, she should get over herself already.” Myra responded with an angry growl as she stood up and started to pace around. “Would you stop getting yourself worked up, what did I tell you about this?” Moe snapped at Myra who frowned. “Fine, I will, let’s go and meet her royal majesty.” Myra rolled her eyes but Moe sighed. “Courtney went back home Myra.” Moe said and when Myra was silent, she hurriedly added. “News was circulating round that the three councils have declared war on an enemy which they don’t see and it was what sent her back home.” Moe explained and then the fury which she was expecting from Myra
Myra could barely stand Courtney anymore, she had had it up to her throat. And that was because she didn’t want to disgrace either the ubis or shifter race but Courtney had no qualms about disgracing the vampires races. From backhanded comments to her actions where she acted like she was above Myra and Moe. Myra was tempted to remind her that Moe was in the same level as her while she was a queen and so Courtney was supposed to be beneath her. Moe was the one helping her to keep her anger under a lid but Courtney last statement made Myra angry, so angry that the cup tipped over. “If you have something to say about me why don’t you say it to my face?” Myra said as she advanced towards Courtney, Moe tried to hold Myra but she shrugged off Moe’s hold getting closer to Courtney who didn’t bat an eyelash. “And if I do say it to your face, what are you going to do about it? It is not like it is going to change anything, I am perfectly okay with my word being said how I want them to be sai
“Are you not supposed to be with your mate?” Carson asked Vince while yawning. Vince, the vampire council and the shifter’s council came to Carson’s castle to hold a meeting. At night. When nobody was expecting them.“He came with me,” Gwenn stated as she popped from behind Vince back to his front where she grinned at Carson. “Your place is the first place aside from our home that our child has been since he was born.”“And you should feel damn lucky about that fact since it was never my plan to drag them away from safety.” Vine said and Carson frowned. “Then why did you?”“Because we need to hold this meeting at your place dimwit, so that we can show that we are a united force and your home is out of boundaries to the insurgents who broke in. so now can we come in or are you going to keep us standing outside like we have nothing better to do with our time?” Cole asked. ‘Carson hesitated like he wanted them tell them no but at the end of the day, he dropped the shield round them and
Cole really hates meeting with his council of pompous shifters and their thoughts which should not have left the recess of their mind. It always tend to make him be in a bad mood. He was hoping that they would remember how the last meeting with his mate who was present, how it went like before they opened their mouths to annoy him. Then again, that a hope too much for these sets of individuals because from the moment he arrived they crowded him, demanding answers to questions about a situation which they were more aware of than him and they refused to allow him check on the damaged which was wroth to his own settlement and how many of his pack he had lost. “I need to check on my people.” Cole voice, trying to keep his voice steady and empty from any of the anger which he was feeling at the whole situation. “No, you need to tell us what is going on. You need to attend to us.” One of them stated and Cole growled. “You forget your place Lion. Need I remind you that I am king and I do
Cole threw the door open to see Jessica and Odred behind Brett. “What do you mean that wolves have gone rogue?” Cole demanded. “I mean just that Alpha.” Brett was breathing hard and that was when Cole took a step back, away from Brett face, giving him room to breathe as he took notice of Brett’s appearance. He had cuts and scrapes all over his face and arms. His clothes were soiled with mud and blood and Cole couldn’t tell if some of it were Brett’s own. “What happened?” Cole asked. “I wish that I could have an answer for you Cole but I don’t know. One minute everything was alright, the next, it was like a switch was flipped somewhere and half of the wolves in our settlements started attacking others. They caused serious damage while others tried to defend themselves and then in the middle of fighting them off, alarms started going off as other settlement started requesting for help. It was when Odred roared that the wolves fled and then I answered and told them that they could hu
